Sota is... that person you can never really understand. That person you never truly get, and yet, that person who you simply feel you can trust. In the very core of his affect he is kind, loving, and caring, and though his efforts to defend it through ridicule and humorous, sarcastic mannerisms may be strong, the ultimate reality is that his warm inner feelings often infect those around him, attracting many a friend and making him, well, rather popular. Which he has... mixed feelings about.
Then again, the levels of Sota's personality are hard to follow. Since I always have trouble writing coherent personality profiles, I'll simply list some emotionish things and how/when he generally displays/handles them.
Anger: Sota handles anger in the way any witty teenager would – with a series of defensive, deflective retorts. To get him angry to the point of raising his voice would quite honestly be an achievement in itself; he prides himself in the ability to coolly evaluate situations on a whim and react accordingly.
Ego: Sota can't be beat. Period. At least, that's the way he sees it. Nice and warm as he is, the guy isn't exactly humble, and knows full well the extent of his abilities as a fighter. Regardless of whether or not he'll win, he isn't afraid to try, and losing will surely put him down. He also likes to brag mid fight. A lot. Should I put that in weaknesses??
To label Sota as either introvert or extrovert would be improper, for neither word accurately describes his set of personality traits. The question that poses itself is what word truly describes a man who hates to be alone and yet despises other people? A man who enjoys his own form of dry epicaracacy while at the same time judging others for doing the same? Such a word simply doesn't exist. Then again, does any one word honestly describe any one person?
【History】
Sota's story is one of death – a curse seeming to follow him wherever he went, since he was but a lad. He was raised by a poor homeless family living in lower class Konoha up until the age of 7 (Following the death of his Mom in childbirth; a common complication with Hotarus.), where he then, following a vicious stabbing over a matter of living arrangements, was cast out on his own. Sota learned, as any human would in such a situation, to survive and fend from himself at an early age. The filth ridden streets of the inner city demanded it. The rough living conditions, lack of food – and competition for what food there was – it all lead to a sort of kill or be killed mentality that shaped Sota as a boy. Do what you have to do. That's what they would always say. Being a smart boy he understood, and, lacking proper size to actually overpower anyone, he was forced to find certain out of the box methods for keeping himself fed and alive. That was life for Sota, sad as it was, and it's likely that struggle that lead to his darker less forgiving side. Until 10, when he discovered his ability.
It was a rare ability – only observed once or twice in the world, known as Hotaru (“Firefly” ホタル
). The prized kekkai genkai of the Hotaru clan, once discovered it wasn't long before he, along with his lack of control, was noticed. Less then a year later he was admitted into the shinobi academy under the close supervision of the staff. It became obvious, over the next few years at the academy, that his bloodline would be a problem. See the Hotaru is a very volatile ability. Without the proper control or chakra reserves, it can cause rather... explosive problems. The elder shinobi knew this well, and took the proper precautions, training Sota, teaching him how to control the Hotaru without harming others, and after three long years, he was graduated and placed on squad.
After that, Sota's life was became rather ordinary. The next five years were spent honing his skills and learning the ins and outs of society, making friends – the whole nine yards. The last five years gave him back his humanity. They made him the good man he is.

Sota's family is all dead. He is the last of a dying bloodline, and since he can't remember anything they hold no tangible ties to his personality.
【Dreams and fears】
Sota's one and only fear is his very own technique, Hotaru. He was taught to fear it, and to use that fear as a reminder never to lose control. And for good reason. If he ever did lose control... the results would be catastrophic.

Description: Hotaru is a powerful kekkai genkai that is, in essence, the epitome of fire control. Always active and most usually present, the bloodline materializes itself as eight shining orbs that hover around Sota at around a foot's length from his body. The orbs themselves are luminescently beautiful – each one is a perfect circle with a diameter if six inches, consisting of pure, densely compacted fire element chakra. At night the orbs shine brightly around his cloak, greatly resembling the fireflies by which it was named. Something to note is that the orbs often react to Sota's mood - appearing more ferocious when he is angry, lucid when he is calm, etc. (This does not effect their power)
What's important to understand is that Hotaru is so much more then just a utilization of one's chakra, but rather their entire being. Each orb is created with a large piece of Sota's chakra, stamina, and soul energy built into it. By using one, Sota is essentially hurting himself. The orbs are always present because they are his life – try to think of them as extensions of his internal organs. If they are all destroyed, Sota will die, and with each one lost a great detriment to his fighting ability is had.
**NOTE** The original eight orbs are the most important and the most powerful. When one is destroyed the rest grow stronger. It takes one hour to generate one of these orbs as of right now, meaning the eight he has in combat are likely the only eight he will have to use. They also react accordingly to Sota, avoiding obstacles and arranging themselves so as to not obstruct day to day activity. Hotaru itself though can be utilized outside of these eight orbs – creating smaller, weaker orbs that mirror their effects.
**NOTE 2** The original eight orbs (Which I will dub soul orbs) are kept compressed by Sota's chakra reserves. What this means, is that if his chakra reserves ever fail, as in fall below one percent, the orbs will, well, explode, effective killing Sota and creating a massive explosion of catastrophic proportions.
Strengths: The Hotaru is an extremely powerful combat proficient jutsu. Each orb in itself has the power to deal massive damage to a shinobi at point blank contact – inflicting dangerous burns backed by a vicious impact force. The orbs can be manipulated and their sizes changed, though this requires great effort and is something Sota, as of now, can only barely do. They also have long range capabilities that he is not aware nor capable of utilizing at this time.
Weaknesses: General orbs themselves can only be used in short – short/mid range combat as of now, and while they are dangerous they do take a large amount of chakra to create and shape. Close range explosions hurt himself too, though the outward trajectory of each blast dims the damage. Weak to water jutsu, obviously, and this Kekkai Genkai limits Sota to just one nature – Fire, obviously.

Forms nearly instantly. Burns whiplash to Sota with minor intensity.
