Current Teaching myself web development by trying to fix some BBCode bugs/features in the Guild is probably a bad idea. Oh, well.

If school were less hard, it'd be less interesting. I still want it to be less hard, though.

All right! I'll start working on the actual roleplay.

And I've answered your question in the other interest check, Burning Kitty.
@Burning Kitty One spaceship per player - however many crew are needed for that spaceship is up to you. Generally, that's a small handful of detailed, important people, and then any number of faceless side characters as necessary. It's a bit like an NRP in that regard.

On the other hand, it's also valid to have a smaller ship with a few good characters in it. Say, a small shuttle. Or, god forbid, a single life pod.

@NanoFreakV2 I have no problem with a ship from an alternate Stargate timeline, but I'd rather it were from an alternate universe rather than from this one. If the RP stays small, I might not need a co-gm, but I'd definitely still appreciate one.
I have to admit that Atlantis is one of my least favorite series - mainly due to how they gave such short shrift to the ending.

I'm glad you're interested, though - knowledge of the Milky Way/SG-1 shouldn't be critical. I might type up a brief on the background, even so.

"Oma, I am not from your universe, therefore, your rules do not apply."
"I've kept your existence from the Others, and I will continue to do so as long as you remain quiet. Once you act, however-"
"I'll only need one action. Well. Several, depending on your view of relative trans-universal simultaneity. Different paradigms have different answers."
"I won't be able to protect you anymore, Janus."
"Ascended or not, I was never really one for following rules."

A series of bright white flashes resolved into the outline of ships foreign to this universe. Janus had carefully selected each to alter the path the galaxy was traveling down. Together, the crews of the motley collection of ships could ensure victory against the Goa'uld and their partially-ascended leader. Separately, each ship represented a high degree of potential change and a collection of free wills and strange philosophies.

Lightyears away, a massive, partially-reconstructed mothership traveled en route to the point of emergence. Anubis settled contentedly into his throne - Oma was hardly as stealthy as she'd thought she was, and Anubis had taken advantage of Janus's interdimensional rifts to drag a prize into this universe. A fraction of a moment later - nearly simultaneous with Janus's interdimensional rifts - a final white flash appeared, smaller than the others. From it emerged a gray, three-finned shuttle with a slanted cockpit. Beneath the forward window, in black paint, lay the Imperial crest.

What is This?

Pick a spaceship, any spaceship. Now imagine it and its crew dropped into the Stargate verse, surrounded by fellow ships plucked from the multiverse. What happens when a cylon basestar, a CR90 corvette, a Donnager-class battleship, a Geth dreadnought, and a Galaxy-class starship meet? What about when they, shortly thereafter, encounter a new Goa'uld mothership?

You will be roleplaying the crew of a spaceship in a "party" of spaceships. You will navigate the Stargate verse, changing the timeline for better or worse. This will be run fairly open-world - the party can go wherever in the universe, but Anubis will be actively exploiting the situation for his own evil ends!

Co-GM needed!

Duties:
  • pre-RP: helping to decide powerbalance issues, sorting through character sheets, helping people develop ship sheets, resolving roleplayer arguments, starting the RP if I don't
  • during RP: roleplaying NPC's, making plot happen if needed; running sidequests, if desired; resolving roleplayer arguments into something less combatitive

Skills/Knowledge:
  • Familiar with Stargate-verse or proficient with Google
  • Creative
  • Reasonably-competent writer
  • ~four hours a week
  • can deal with arguments

Let me know if you're interested, either in the RP or Co-GM'ing!

Apparently not? I've been checking every day, but nothing's been happening. I'm willing to run a reboot, this time without a sudden 4-day absence at the start.
Speaking of things, we still have the party questions to fill out:

  • Who is the best cook?
  • Who owes someone else a favor, and what is it?
  • How did you meet?
  • What is the best purchase your party ever made?
  • Who is the messiest person?
  • Who is the most dependable?
  • Who should never, ever keep watch again, and why?
  • What's the most illegal thing you've done?
@dragonmancer You could nerf another spell if you feel uncomfortable. But I think you're good otherwise.
I did notice the cool-downs; those were a good idea. I think taking out Calamity Cannon should (probably?) do it. If he's still too strong in-game, well, there's character advancement to take care of that. I don't want to take away both of the squishy spellcaster's fancy DPS abilities.
General:

If you've been accepted, please post your character in the characters tab.

So far, our party composition is:
Br3ead: -Human paladin/healer
dragonmancer -Dragonblooded human Warlock
Pathfinder -Ratman Fighter
Copperpen -Human Crossbow Ranger
71452K - Human Adventurer (alchemist? rogue? NPC?)

From the Life of Raidne:

I think school is finally settling into routine. Like I said, I plan on posting four times a week; that should be actually feasible now.

Also, I'll update the zeroth post with what we've got so far.

Specifics:

First, @71452K, @Copperpen and @Pathfinder, you've all raised an important issue: how do we worldbuild without stepping all up in each others' business? I think this is worth discussing, but here's my suggestion (and preference): post more, shorter bits of worldbuilding rather than fewer, longer things. That way people have an opportunity to add to what you've written without feeling like one person is dictating the entire story. Sure, it'll be less well-polished, but we've got ~6 other people to help polish it. My other thought, which you've already noted, is to pay attention to our fellow RP'ers characters and respect them.

Secondly, keep in mind that literally nothing but your characters is 100% written in stone. Even though we (myself included) all have ideas on what we want the histories of certain races and empires to be, at some point they will be defined, and that will destroy some of our head-canon assumptions. Easy, simple case: I was picturing this RP as dragonless - I think they're overdone and often overpowered - but now dragons are definitely canon. Don't focus on what we lose, focus on what we can build on top of the thing our comrades have posted. Make everybody else's thing as awesome as you can. Just as the real universe has an infinite amount of detail and entirely new things to explore, so does this one. Going back to my dragonless concept, now we have an interesting hook for dragons as somehow conduits for magic, which raises interesting possibilities in my head for fun questlines for you guys.

The scariest part of this whole exercise is trusting each other with our creations. I truly, deeply, believe in our ability to care about each other's things enough to respect them and then make them even more fun, interesting, dark, awesome, or frighteningly normal. But, we're not going to get there if we don't take leaps of faith (especially at the beginning when we don't really know each other).

TL;DR - please take the human history out of PM's; I'd rather we develop them here.

Characters:

@Br3ad Accepted! I'm pleased that this is your first thread! Welcome to the Guild!
@dragonmancer Comparing James to the other characters, he does seem more powerful to me. What were your thoughts on toning him down? Conditionally accepted.
@Pathfinder Accepted! Have you, by chance, read anything from the Jenkinsverse? ratmen remind me of Gaoians.
@bleedingwords Yep, there's room. Go ahead and post your character sheet. I'll close the thread to applications after this, though.
@Copperpen Accepted!
@71452K Accepted as well, like I indicated in the PM.
