The show directly states (particularly within the first couple of gens) that multiple years have passed, yet Ash is still 10, so some weird magic is involved that defies all logic. More than likely Ho-Oh's doing. (Or just the developers trying to destroy people's minds.) It's not that he's traversed all of this in less than a year, it's just that he is locked at 10 years old.
Except the reveal says absolutely nothing about him "setting up a league", or even adventuring or taking on the Island Trials. The major premise, based on what was said, is he goes to Alola with no purpose other than to attend school. His goal is to graduate, not to build Pokemon Leagues, not to challenge the Trial Captains, none of it.

Just graduating. "Like never before", whatever the heck that's supposed to mean. If he were planning to become the best trainer in the Islands and take on the trials or set up a league, you would think ONE of those would have been mentioned with the reveal in some form. But all we get is, "He's going to school. Oh, btw, he gets a Z-Ring lol but he's going to school."

So suddenly the anime becomes slice of life. :P How they think this is going to help the series, I have no idea, but I have no plans on wasting my life watching Ash go through middle school. Middle school was enough of a nightmare in real life.
Personally, I think X&Y could have been the end of Ash's story had he learned to Mega Evolve and had brought back Charizard and Sceptile. He would have won the Kalos Conference had he used those two. Would have been a good note to end Ash's story on. Finally winning a legitimate league (I don't count the Orange League, since it only has 4 badges; and the Battle Frontier isn't really a "League").
Description associated with the anime reveal. I quoted it under the scan. Very few fans are pleased with that seeming to be the major premise of Sun & Moon.
Yay! Some new Pokemon Sun/Moon Updates! And some nice pics of Rockruff's evolution. Still not big on the UB's, but I'll live and . . .

Wait . . .

People had similar theories about gen 6. It's as bad as people trying to predict the end of the world XD
@Leos Klien Never said I liked that trash heap either XD

@NightmareInd Indeed it is. We've mostly been doing collabs on Titanpad and such and though things are slow, we are still alive. Well, most of us are, anyway. *Looks at undead @Dawnscroll *

This isn't the first time that they've had man-made Pokemon. In fact, those have existed since the first generation (Porygon, possibly Voltorb and Electrode, Mewtwo depending on how you look at it). I'm sure they've had others over the years. As for the Ultra Beasts, we don't really know anything about them yet, so I'm reserving judgement.

True, yet its name (not a codename, but its ACTUAL NAME) is Type: Null. Not to mention, its lore that has been released sounds a lot like a simple combination of those of Mewtwo and Genesect. I didn't have issues with Mewtwo, as it was unique in being strong enough to be a villain all on his own. However, with Genesect, it was essentially just a way for the bad guys to seem more bad, and it seems this is intended to be the case with Type: Null, as it is apparently owned by Team Skull Enforcer Gladion. Not to mention it's not actually a Legendary Pokemon, but created with the intent of matching Legendary Pokemon. The mask thing it wears is a restraint, apparently, to reduce its power. So it is in itself a contradiction. It was made to be uber-powerful, but they weaken it anyway. Not to mention it is ugly as sin.
So, just saw this most recent update for Sun and Moon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCTj-04gfMM

Up until now, I was excited about what they were doing to diverge from the standard methods of Pokemon, but some of this is getting to the point where it doesn't even feel much like Pokemon anymore. I mean, what could the series possibly gain from the Ultra Beasts? Or having a man-made Pokemon called Type: Null?

If anyone has any ideas, feel free to share them, but right now, I'm fiercely opposed to some of this, especially Type: Null.
