Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom.
I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.

New IC will go up tomorrow, FYI!
@urukhai Bro... I don't think the ship is in hyperspace yet, I mean, the GM post noted it wouldn't be until another tswo hours.

This is correct, the ship isn't due to make the jump until two hours. It has to transit to a safe spot to make the jump first.

sorry to just randomly pop up with a char without prior notice to everyone, but sometimes things just work out that way.

also, was not stalking the thread....

at all.

He was hiding in the bushes outside my flat, waiting to ask if I would let him into the RP ;)

Your character looks fine, though his picture is a lot more feline than Isorlai (which are Sergals, I just nicked the races' appearance for my own purposes :P)
No real need to change it especially though; I'd just imagine he has the same colouration and build, but is an Isorlai.

As for where to join in; you could have your character have boarded the ship on the same shuttle, but somehow become lost or otherwise not managed to meet up with the others until just now.
I'm still here, albeit a bit unsure what to do with my character to make it interesting for me right now. I'll stick around though.
Let the poor girl live. She said she'd been awake for 24 hours so naturally when you're laying down you're gonna fall asleep. But if you want to, she's probably just going to ignore the rant.

Not to mention goodness knows how all the time zones must be matching up travelling from planet to planet. It's bad enough on an international flight. Trying to concentrate and work hard after all of that would give anyone trouble.
1st lieutenant and 2nd lieutenant are still lieutenants, and would normally be addressed as such as far as I can tell. The mention of first or second wouldn't come up all that often, I don't think.
And you might be right regarding the command rank of major too, after a bit of looking into it.
I'll put something together and get it up within the next couple of days :)
I wouldn't worry about the colour coding system too much, it was mainly there for flavour rather than for anything that had to be remembered. Plus, I figured on a ship the size of the one our characters are on, something like would make a hell of a lot of sense. I mean, modern US aircraft carriers are already almost a 1/4 of a mile long, our starship is almost four times bigger than that. Some kind of help in knowing your way around would be vital. And I've seen similar things in hospitals, businesses and theme parks before too. It seemed like a clever, and low-tech thing to implement.

And if you want help with the military side of things, I'm always here to ask for advice. I've never been in the military myself, but I read a hell of a lot of reference material. I wanted to be in the Royal Air Force myself, but as I'm asthmatic and have poor eyesight, it was never going to happen. Roleplaying and writing is about as close as I can get. That and the occasional airshow or excursion to go airsofting.

I can always either add to the OP with some references to modern-day Naval Air Squadron/Air Force life, operations and lingo, or put a post up just with it in, if people feel it would help at all?

I made a few edits to the rules and the character sheet as notes regarding realism, following a re-read of a couple of things and the current situation IC, as I wanted to make sure that we're all on the same page regarding the 'feel' of the game. Namely, that DefCom is quite squarely close to a modern-day military and all that entails regarding training, discipline, rank, maintenance and general day-to-day life and organization/operations etc. as opposed to some of the more casual and laid-back militaries that are featured in fiction (like the rebel alliance, for example, where a farm kid who used to fly a space-cessna to kill small animals can be accepted as a fighter pilot on a vital mission).

I'm at work, so I can't respond quickly, but I'll also be sending PM's to a couple of people to address a few things.

EDIT: I also edited my IC post, as I realised from the way I'd written it, it makes seem as if Erien is giving the PA address, which is supposed to come from the ships' captain and not her.
I broke up the description of the tour around the ship as well, to make it easier to follow.

Then I'll make doubly sure it's more disinterest than ignorance. I kinda figured she knew about the ranks anyway, since she'd been on a ship before.
Also, that depends on the problem. To Nyx, respect either equals fear or that it has been earned. Naturally it'll happen. In time.

Yeah - for Erien, it'll be a case of learning how Nyx sees things, and once she has some understanding of that, showing her that's not the way it is in DefCom; at least as far as fear goes anyway. There's certainly some respect involved.
And for Nyx I guess it'll be part of that too, learning how it's different from what she's used to.
I love that there's already some friction between Nyx and Erien, espcially since Nyx doesn't really care or understand military ranks or how it works.

I like that she has a level of disinterest in it, but to become a flying member of DefCom, she'd have to have passed through the Academy, and would have to have at least some experience with it.
Still, she'll soon get an understanding of it the hard way if it ends up being a problem...!
