Got my new sci-fi mecha RP up. Put a lot of work into the background of this one, and wrote out a whole setting

Cambozola is definitely A-Tier. It combines all the best parts of Brie with Blue Cheese, what's not to like.

Guess the mecha RP idea wasn't as popular or as interesting as I hoped it might be. Not much in the way of bites on that one so far, sadly

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom.
I have a lot of fandoms, but I don't really like fandom RP's - or at least, the ones that come up. I often find them a bit lacking in ideas, or too far away from what actually makes the thing I'm a fan of enjoyable.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones. I dig giant robots, and I love military aircraft. I'm also a very dedicated and proud Brony and furry.

So, funny story; I didn't realise/remember that when you create a thread/topic, it doesn't auto-subscribe you to it. I kept logging into the site and expecting to see notifications, and only realised today that it might not have subscribed me... derp >.> clearly this lockdown thing is affecting my brain :P
I will catch up an make appropriate replies in the morning...!
After the end of the mission to the island off the coast of Solernia, the intel recovered by the Ghost Hunters had revealed a network of locations and agents involved with the operations of the Silent Line. With so many leads to follow up on, and the need for secrecy - or at least, caution - had only been reinforced with the intel gathered. The Ghost Hunters had been split; now Silverwind and Max had formed the core of the new Ghost Hunters, while the rest had formed the 'Phantom Stalkers', a new unit under the same operational command and mission as the Ghosts.

That had been weeks - months, now - ago; Silverwind and Max had met and trained with their new comrades, working on forming a cohesive, flexible and reliable unit. Now, the orders for a new mission for the Phantoms had been handed down. The silver-furred fox reviewed the information displayed on the floating holographic screens projected from his pebble. His single eye moved between the displays; personnel information on one, the intel on the mission on another, and detailed files on the operational theater on the third.
He gave a growling huff of a sigh, and swiped the pebble to shut down the displays. He slid the pebble onto the back of his artificial hand and it projected the time; as he'd figured: it was time to meet with Max, and then to get the briefing underway. He roused himself from the comfortable chair and retrieved his flying jacket from the back of the door, pulling it on as he headed toward the briefing theater, suitably early and ahead of time.
A few minutes walking had him at the entrance, and he stepped through the double door. The room reminded him of a university lecture theater - appropriately to the name - albeit smaller. He leaned up against the desk at the front of the room, and set to waiting for the rest of the unit to arrive.
I've put up some additional GEAR pilots to give us a bit more firepower too, had a lot of fun creating them. We can also add a support team - techs etc - if wanted as well.

I can get an IC post up later to get us rolling, probably this evening. As I said before, I already have an idea of where our next mission will take us, as I had a storyline partly plotted out before things ground to a stop. Would be a useful place to have the fireteam make their debut as well, as it'll be a more active hot-zone than the last mission.
Supporting GEAR Pilots:

  • Catriona 'Burner' Burnside (Scottish accent). Expert in heavy weapons. 7'00" Highland cow. Friendly, good-natured and good-humoured woman. Despite her rather plump and very 'full' figure, she is very much in good shape, and is extremely physically powerful.
  • Rarden 'Lowdown' Wyden (South-African accent). Demolitions/Combat Engineer. 5'6" Civet. Modest, Humble, polite and good-mannered. Intelligent and skillful, he has a slim, rangy build.
  • Case 'Red' Redditch (Australian accent). Electronic warfare and communications. 6'02" Grey Kangaroo. Outgoing, bombastic, cheerful and excitable.
  • Alisha 'Riser' Prosch (Mid-Atlantic accent). 5' 11" Porcupine. Quick-witted and smart, she is caring and good natured, but with a smart and cheeky sense of humour.
Name: Silverwind Blade

Age: 48

Species: Silver Fox

Appearance:
Left eye missing and covered by black leather patch; right eye red-brown. Scar across bridge of muzzle. Left ear nicked and torn. Heavy scarring across left side of body, with several smaller scars in other places. Left arm replaced by highly functional prosthetic arm comprised of black-and-white bioplastic.
Silver-grey, fairly thick and somewhat shaggy/grizzled fur with off-white on chest, throat and lower muzzle. Longer 'ruff' of fur around throat/neck. Black markings on muzzle, black ears. Darker grey lower right arm and lower legs, black tail tip. Thick, unruly neck-length brown hair with prominent grey peppered through, especially around temples.
Fighting fit, and relatively well-muscled (more of a runner/swimmer build than a body-builder), though age is starting to catch up with him and soften the edges of his trim lines.

  • Height: 5' 7"
  • Weight: 130kg

Personality:
Positive Personality Traits: Compassionate, Loyal, Selfless, Protective, Warm, Good Sense of Humour, Optimistic
Negative Personality Traits: Reckless, Cocky, Easily Provoked, Too Trusting, Bitter
Likes: Whiskey, Classic Rock music, Reading books (mostly sci-fi and military thrillers), Hiking, Climbing, Socialising and good company - especially that of women.
Dislikes: Large Crowds, Cheap (and weak) beer, Large Cities, Having to prove or justify himself, Bureaucracy, insincerity, shallowness, manipulation.

Silverwind has had an eventful life, but despite this he maintains a somewhat laid-back and calm personality. He has an amicable nature, and is friendly to most people unless given reason otherwise. He is especially loyal to those who act as friends to him and support him, and one another. He has no time for those who are bullies, and pick on those who cannot defend themselves, or who have worked hard to get what they have. Arrogance, greed, and callousness do not impress him, and he will be cold and distant to such people, or even outright refuse to be civil with them, or mocking them openly for their negative traits and flaws. He will relish opportunities to take down such petty and selfish opponents, and will feel no remorse for their loss. Equally should anyone turn on him, he will have no mercy, sympathy or compassion for them, and will be especially cold to them.
He is open to making friends, but past events have left him with a high level of anxiety and doubt over making new friends and letting them get too close. This rings even more true for any romance or thought of love, though he is a serial flirt and does very much enjoy the company of women, and appreciates many kinds of beauty in them. Which can often get him in trouble.
He trusts very few people in the military, beyond a handful due to his past experiences, though he remains loyal to the Princess and the Solernian Royal Family.

History:
Silver was born in a small settlement in the interior of Solernia. He lived a fairly carefree and simple childhood, and enjoyed outdoor past-times, and getting into mischief. He had a few good friends, and a stable home life.
Unsure of what he wanted to do with his life, he joined the RSDF after seeing a parade and display of GEARs on a trip to the capital, and becoming infatuated with the machines.
He was successful in training, though struggled with authority at many turns, as well as getting into a fight with another cadet of a higher 'social status' than him that looked down on him for his 'lesser' position and lack of knowledge and understanding.
Despite this setback, he carved out a notable career, rising to command a GEAR unit known as the Roughriders, and gaining a reputation for many successful operations, won by guts, daring, the skin of his teeth and bravery. He bent orders and regulations to do what he saw as the 'right' thing, often earning him ire from his superiors, though a grudging respect. He also gained a reputation for never leaving his men behind, and always being on their side.
His career was so successful that his sister, Juliana, followed in his footsteps and enlisted, becoming an aerospace pilot.
Eventually assigned to Special Operations command, he was put in command of the Roughriders, a special forces unit. The Roughriders became his second family, especially after his parents died in a tragic accident. He and Juliana came together to mourn, and after his return to service he found himself becoming romantically entangled with Iriana, a member of his unit.
The unit became especially successful and received many commendations for their service, and eventually this came to be a problem - special forces units that are too well-known about have trouble remaining undetected and stealthy.
While Silverwind was never boastful, he was proud of all his unit had achieved, and knew that by working together his unit could achieve amazing things.
Nonetheless, his unit was destroyed on a classified operation, with only he and his third-in-command, Meyer, surviving. Both of them were heavily injured. Silverwind retired from service at the time, while Meyer went on to serve in an advisory training role. He lived in quiet isolation and peace in the countryside, keeping in contact with his sister, a handful of other relatives, and a few people he met locally.
Upon the formation of the 33rd and it's mission, Silverwind was invited to command the unit by an old friend, General Versco who was still part of the RSDF and was involved in his surviving the mission that obliterated his unit, and caused the mass of injuries he suffered that lead to his early retirement from active service five years prior. Full details of this mission remained classified by Royal Decree.
After much coaxing and discussion, he eventually agreed.

Premise:
After the mission to recover intel on the Silent Line, the information recovered by the Ghosts required a two pronged approach. The unit was split up. Silverwind and Max headed up the newly reformed Ghosts, with the addition of a support infantry unit, and a roster of new pilots picked by Silverwind. The other pilots from the original incarnation of the Ghosts formed a new 'Phantom' unit, and were assigned other missions, based on the intelligence information recovered, and information from the prisoners extracted

Now, a few weeks later when the dust has settled, Max and Silverwind prepare to take on their new missions and operations.

So I'm going to be honest. I've lost my muse. Every time I sit down with the doc in front of me, I keep drawing a big ol' blank. I am very sorry for not saying anything sooner >.<

That's okay, it happens. I think at the moment things have slowed down to a crawl anyway. I've been waiting to see if any posts come up, but it's beginning to look like this is dead anyway D:
I'm guessing that the silence around here is a result of the combination of exams for the US peeps and Mexicanbeervirus taking over everything at the moment as well.
I'm pretty sure we can pick up again fairly easily, and hopefully get some more posts to move things along soon.
Sorry it took so long, and I was so delayed in doing it. I hadn't intended to leave it so long, and the game is definitely not dead. Got a post up, and hopefully it's a bit more structured this time to allow people to have their own kickass spotlight moments, much as I did with Silverwind. Hopefully if we get another round of kicking ass, I can wrap up this engagement and we can move the story on a bit, since the battle has dragged on for a while. Plus it'll get the major plot started and us off on course to interact with it.
The last few defenders fought for all they were worth. The firepower pouring out from the reinforced cinderblock and cement structures of the diminutive and rough-and-ready airfields' control buildings and their defenders almost seemed to intensify as the GEARs of the Ghost Hunters closed in. Grimacing, Silverwind linked to the Big Eye's sensor feeds and used the disk-shaped aerodyne drones' sensors to plot the location of the IFV's still lashing out autocannon fire, his GEAR stumbling and spinning partly on one side as he took one of the heavy 40mm rounds on the plate of reinforced armour. Warbling warnings sounded through his cockpit as the machines' sensors systems registered a hostile lock on with a laser or radar.
"Hunter lead to all units, be advised; the remaining hostiles have ATGM's and have a lock. Popping smoke and chaff to cover our advance, fire for cover as we move in. We've got 'em on the back foot".
Through the crosshairs in his helmet visor, the targeting reticle for the Anti-armour missiles on his GEAR's right shoulder turned green with positive lock-ons on two IFV's. "Deploy countermeasures," he growled to the computer system, his fingers squeezing the controls for the missiles at the same instant. Two plumes of white smoke tipped by glaring yellow fire lashed out across the space and blasted the armoured vehicles apart in globes of bright flame, before with a rippling crackle the shoulder dischargers on Silverwind's Hargun launched their chaff/hot smoke munitions, followed by a rapid whirr from the mortars auto-loader and a double thump as it blasted out a pair of smoke rounds that detonated ahead of the advancing group of GEARs.
Engaging his foot-wheels once more, Silver screeched across the rough matting of the airfield and darted into the smoke, weaving and drifting to emerge in a flanking position to the defenders. A blurting buzz of fire from the twin head-mounted rotaries tore through a knot of infantry in red smears, before with a decisive and forceful strike, the GEARs' left arm slashed forward and the Pile-Bunker slammed forward with the crack of a propllant charge to smash through the engine bay of a technical as the rear gunner trained his weapon on the advancing robot. A swift kick from the GEARs metalshod foot overturned the vehicle and sent the gunner sprawling.
A blast from the underbarrel shotgun cleared out another sandbagged heavy machine-gun nest, before a resounding clang rung through the Hargun's frame as something impacted the rear of the machine and triggered a series of minor cautions. Rear cameras showed another group of hostiles sheltering among the boxy shapes of electrical and service support cabinets a short distance away. One of them wielded some kind of hand-held, magazine-fed grenade launcher and aimed it from their shoulder, while others struggled to set up some kind of heavy gun.
Growling, he swivelled on the spot and stomped the GEAR closer, bringing the shield to bear to cover his advance.
"Hunters, got some resistance to the North-West, infantry taking up positions with heavy weapons. Going to sweep them out. Big Eye shows a fireteam of GEARs holding the main entrance to the building. I knocked out a technical and mission-killed - at least - two IFV's. Reading more active targets on Big Eye through IR and MAD; may be armour or possibly large ground vehicles, covering the rear of the buildings, along with numerous infantry heat signatures. Move in and knock 'em out Hunters".
