I propose they are interrupted by the spirit of a vengeful washing machine
"It exploded?" Himeko raised an eyebrow, "sounds rough. Hope no one got hurt."

Presumably there wasn't any major injuries incurred by any party, or else Himeko was terrible at reading the atmosphere. And at the very least, she'd probably would've overheard some gossip about it. Even in Tokyo, word got around like it was a small, tight-knit community. Given Hanako's disposition however, the shrine maiden hadn't expected her to awkwardly imply she was looking for a sleepover, on account of her own bedroom missing a pathway to it.

Himeko had no problem with helping her out, of course. The spare room was pretty much a place to store old trinkets and unfit for habitation, but her room was plenty big enough to store an additional, adorable girl for a few nights. The main issue, naturally, was that having a guest over made it substantially more difficult to do magical girl stuff, especially at night. Unless Hanako was willing to believe and comply with the idea that she had to perform secret rituals during the night that no one should witness, the shrine maiden was going to be inactive for a bit. And it wasn't the best time to be taking a holiday, unfortunately.

Still, with Nico earnestly begging the miko to take her in, Himeko figured she couldn't refuse either way. Even the most cold-hearted of villains would struggle to resist the pleas of two cute girls!
"Well, it's no issue for me," Himeko shrugged, her lips curling into another playful grin, "but you'll have to bunk with me in my room, Hanako-chan~ I hope that's okay for you?"

@Ammokkx @Raineh Daze
"Sorry, sorry~" Himeko practically sang, her wide grin plastered across her face, "it was hard to resist!"

A gullible young lady and a flustered high(?)-schooler, what a wonderful combination! Even if Nico cottoned on relatively quickly, she seemed the type to be easily taken in by Himeko's words. The day she learned to second-guess every word that passed the shrine maiden's lips would be a sad one, indeed. Little Hanako, meanwhile, seemed to have a low teasing threshold, so Himeko would have to rein it in.

"Not that I would mind having a sister as cute as you, of course!" Himeko addressed the smallest of the trio with a friendly smile, "but anyway, sorry for the bump. As long as you aren't hurt!"

Himeko barely managed to refrain from patting the young girl's head. Her exact age was hard to pin down, but putting that aside, Hanako's demeanour indicated that such a display of affection would have her melt into the floor. Himeko wasn't so mean to do that to her. In public.

I fail to see what I did wrong and stand by Himeko adopting a cute sister.
Himeko maintained a slightly confused smile as Hanako apologised desperately for the minor blunder. The poor girl was knocked to the ground, yet now she was bowing and acting like she'd stepped on the toes of someone actually important. Sure, a lot of older folk may have spoken to her with a hint of reverence, but surely even they knew she was no more than a normal young woman!
Naturally, Himeko wanted to tease this cute girl a little, but it seemed a little too cruel for the moment. Before she could reassure the smaller girl, Nico seemed to recognise her. Come to think of it, the girl did seem familiar. Given her iunuque sense of dress, the shrine maiden felt a little silly for not clicking earlier, but at least Nico was kind enough to provide a new opportunity.

Putting on her brightest smile, Himeko confidently declared, "yes, actually. Hanako-chan here is actually my estranged sister, who chose to wander the country in search of enlightenment!"
Himeko had never caught Hanako's surname, so the extra little coincidence was lost on her, but that didn't stop the bespectacled lady throwing an arm around the smaller girl's shoulders, pretending to dab at her eyes, beneath the rims of her glasses, "we haven't seen each other in so long... oh, how I missed her~"

I shall try and post after work tomorrow.
Himeko had not expected Nico to seriously consider the offer. Being a Shrine Maiden wasn't exactly synonymous with an illustrious life, and those who were interested, tended to quickly falter at the amount of work that actually went on behind-the-scenes. The miko watched her companion think hard upon it, finding herself wondering if it could work out. Obviously, she was oblivious to any hindrances Nico would face enlisting, but it was surprisingly appealing to think she could have a companion at the shrine. Himeko had no siblings, after all, so having someone close to her age to talk with (read: tease relentlessly)...

"Oh, no worries," Himeko responded when the other girl returned to this plane of existence, "come on now, unless you got no stamina, you're not a burden!" The bespectacled young woman had to note once more just how diligent Nico was, bowing to the torii once they passed. Even Himeko rarely bothered to remember such a thing, but it probably wouldn't do to have the city's most beloved and treasured shrine maiden - citation needed - skip out on that in the company of others. So she turned and offered a bow of her own, then continued on her way.

With Nico around, she couldn't exactly transform at a moment's notice, but that was fine. Himeko knew there were plenty of magical girls running around, so they could deal with any pressing issues. They'd be more suited to it, too, given the nature of Himeko's powers.
"Not to sway your decision or anything, but us shrine maidens have a guardian deity that only we can see!" Himeko claimed with a cheerful grin, devoid of a give-away playful tone, "this super-cute little fox that sleeps on top of the to-ah!"

So absorbed with her conversation, Himeko hadn't seen the tiny girl they crossed paths with until they collided. She was barely knocked off-course, but the other girl may not be so fortunate.
"Gosh, I'm sorry! You okay?"

@Ammokkx @Raineh Daze
I don't mind where they end up going, really. Could probably have them move towards someone in need of interaction.
Himeko watched silently as Nico proceeded into the shrine grounds, diligently following the steps of prayer. The shrine maiden hadn't payed much attention in previous visits, but this girl was treating the shrine with a lot of respect. You didn't often see that in people their age.

Come to think of it, she might be better at this than me. Himeko realised, having ascended to the top of the steps to watch over Nico. She was certainly a little lax with procedures, but fulfilled her duties perfectly. Or... well enough to not tarnish the family image, at any rate. Himeko was almost compelled to act the perfect miko.

After a while, Nico finished her prayer, and was quite surprised to see Himeko still present. She gave a cheery little wave in response, "Nah, you were perfect! I'll have to convince dad to take you on as a shrine maiden. You know your stuff!" The young maiden giggled playfully, and indicated the stairs behind her, "well, if you're done here, we can walk together. If you bump into a god, I can smooth things over~"

Himeko had planned to patrol for a bit, but she could wait a little while to do so. It wasn't like something terrible was going on right now, anyway. Not even the impeding Hex Night was much of a concern at the moment. She had a rough plan of action for the thing, anyway, and stressing over the finer details was a waste of time.

@Ammokkx
Curses, finer details, my one weakness

@Ammokkx Officially, I'd say the bell can be used by anyone, though Himeko or her family members are usually around if visitors prefer they do that kind of thing. Himeko will stay to watch or handle any shrine duties that Nico would prefer her to do. I think you'd ring the bell before the prayer, but Himeko wouldn't really care about the order it's done in.
