Before we dive into this there’s some things I’d like to go over, so bare with me. I’ve played this rp lots of times, I’ve had to deal with lots of issues, there’s been countless things that have bothered me but I’ve let slide, well I’m done with that. We’re no newbs to rping or this universe I’ve created so there’s no excuse for the ridiculous pitfalls that we’ve had in the past. These will all be characters that are enlisted in the military, so please make them in a way that it makes sense for them to be there. PLEASE no characters that; have significant physical or mental disabilities, cannot follow orders, cannot work with others, have a “lone wolf” complex, are constantly reckless, are unrelenting smart-asses to their superiors, always drunk, have unreasonable experience, skills, or items, cannot function in a military structured life, are not useful members of the squad, etc. I feel like these should all be obvious… but apparently they aren’t(que heavy sigh as I think about past renditions). I’m open to your ideas and willing to work with you on things and see how we might be able to fit them in, but at this point I cannot make any extreme exceptions for these characters. As the rp progresses we might be able to introduce characters with a little more outlandish concepts, but for now let’s just try to keep this relatively basic for my sake. Thank you.
Like I said above, these are enlisted SOLDIERS. They have been through basic training, and maybe the military academy (officer school) as well. They’ll have 5-10 years experience that would include time spent in combat. They may not be pros, but they aren’t nuggets either. All of the characters, regardless of speciality, will have training and at least some experience with standard issue guns and weapons, ship layout and basic controls, navigation, tactics, some survival skills, basic vehicle operation, and at least basics in field medicine. Age of enlistment would be 18, depending on their background some may have started at the academy as early as 16. So with the minimum of 5 years of experience your character will be no less than 23 years old. Please put some thought into balancing your rank, speciality, and age in at least a semi logical way. Also another very important point: none of these characters are a part of the Rebirth program. That’s right, you’re all mortals… please don’t die.
Additional, I don’t expect you guys to intentionally do this but it’s been enough of an issue in both this rp and others that I feel it’s worth noting. Don’t argue IC. Your characters are absolutely allowed to argue! That's part of writing a group of people after all. What I mean is don't argue using your characters as a medium. If you disagree with something their character did, don't like them, don't like how they're being played, etc don't argue and fight about it via your characters. This isn't an easy concept for me to describe, but there's a definite difference between your characters fighting with each other and two people fighting through their characters. I've seen it countless times, even been involved in it plenty. It gets people flustered and can derail entire rps. For example if there's an issue with a mission you disagree with let the gm or co gm know, don't argue out the logistics IC. But if there's a point you think your CHARACTER would disagree with then by all means bring it up IC. The same goes for physical fights, probably even more so. I’m sure we can each think of a time when there’s been a scenario of someone’s character punching ours and them giving us no warning or consideration, like they just hijacked our character and the scene itself. And in most of those cases had it gone down logically your character would have had some kind of reaction before getting a broken jaw. Don't control other people's characters like that and don't start pointless fights without consent of the other player. If and when any of you guys do start fights or significant arguments there should be OOC communication on how it's going to go and who will “win”. I definitely don’t want to mess with your rhythm of a good scene, I just want to help us avoid the pitfalls of these situations.

Your squad is going to be led by a Lieutenant Major, you can choice from the ranks of Petty Officer (1st, 2nd, or 3rd), Chief Petty Officer (if you choice the speciality of pilot and have a history as a CAG or are the medical officer), or Sergeant. (CAG or command air group is the person over all ships and pilots within a battlestar.)
Medical officer (Chief Petty Officer)
Pilot (Chief Petty Officer)
Engineer
Tech
Marksman
Explosives
Close combat
Specialties are on a first come first serve basis. Feel free to lay claim on what you'd like even if you don't have your character written yet. Let's try to keep things balanced in a way that makes sense. So for example we only need one medic. Having two specialties is fine as long as it's a reasonable combination. If we have more than one character that specializes in something like marksmanship that's fine too.

Let's say current RP takes place when Rin is 64, Rebirth program has been around for 34 years. In previous renditions it’s been 50 years into the Rebirth program. Yes I know, it's confusing. But this is how I keep track of time in this universe.
The rise and fall of the dispute unfolded in front of Laura and she felt helpless to do anything about it. Then, just like that, it was over. Kacey and Des went their separate ways and the tension in the air began to fade. This argument had obviously drawn the attention of everyone in the gang. With a frustrated sigh she watched Kacey leave and knew it was likely best to give her some time to cool off. Des had his sister and the attention of a few others, she doubted her presence was needed there either. At a loss for what to do, and frustrated with her inability to help, she decided to return to her area of the camp.
After putting her rifle away she sat and watched the various members. Kacey had gone off to who knows where, Maverick had said he'd be up at the ridge, and everyone else was scattered around camp taking part in various conversations. Not wanting to spend her time sitting on her butt she decided to saddle up and take a brief ride around. Keep an eye out for Kacey along her way.
Having ridden for some time around the edges of what could be considered their territory she was now making her way up the ridge and could see Maverick up ahead. "Hey" she called out to him. "Have you seen Kacey?" She asked as she drew closer. By this point she had some time to breathe from the ordeal and was feeling much more calm about everything, but was still worried about her sister and the strength of the group as a whole.
As Cin poured out her frustrations Laura's face softened, she felt compassion for the girl. The situation was aggravating and unfair, that was something she could sympathize with. It took effort to stave off the desire to wrap Cin up in a warm hug. "You're right, you should be included. At least I think you should be." Laura spoke up after Cin had finished shooting. "You're are a capable woman, and we'll make Kacey see that." She said with a determined nod. Extending her arm she gently placed her hand on Cin's shoulder. "If nothing else you've got me to back you up. And once I set my mind to something there's no stopping me!" A big smile came across her face as she spoke the words. Her commitment and determination were some of her strongest parts. Though some simply called it hard hardheadedness.
Laura's attention was grabbed by the sound of raised voices, and they didn't exactly sound happy. Her expression went flat and her heart quickened. "I think we ought head back now..." She said in a low and serious voice. The two women went back towards camp with a purpose in their pace. As she drew closer Laura could tell that whatever discussion was unfolding had escalated, but she was unsure what exactly was being said. No more had they entered the camp than she saw Kacey grab Des and slap him across the face. "Shit" she mumbled under her breath as she dropped the rifle and ran towards the them. It wasn't exactly clear what had happened but she an innate feeling that it had to do with Cin's situation. Her main objective in the moment was to just get to Kacey and keep her from doing something even worse. In the back of her mind though she knew that had her sister wanted him dead he'd be bleeding out right now.
With a nod Laura listened as Cin vented out her thoughts. She chuckled softly when it was implied that Des couldn't even put his boots on the right feet. It was clear that the girl was exasperated by the whole ordeal, and that was a feeling Laura could relate with. "I may get to go out and help the others with jobs these days but two years ago, when I first joined, I was far more incompetent than I've ever seen you be. At least when it came to this way of life. Kacey left me at camp so many times I thought I'd go crazy, was damn near to leaving in fact." She recollected. As the two came up to the makeshift range Laura stopped and began to load the rifle. "Then one day while everyone else was out on a job it was just me and a man named Leroy left at camp. Next thing either of us knew a group of renegade Indians were right up on us, with intent of scalping Leroy, looting our goods and horses, and dragging me off with them." She paused and sighed. Raising the loaded rifle to her shoulder she fired five quick rounds off, each finding it's target in the empty cans lined along a ridge. "Leroy didn't make it that day unfortunately, but I did. And our camp, money, horses, and earthly belongings were all saved because I was there and had finally developed the skills to defend myself. For your sake I hope you don't have to prove yourself like that, but just try to keep in mind that staying behind isn't punishment, it's an important job. I think you're real close to earning your spot on a job, just try not to give up." As she concluded she held the rifle to Cin for her to take with a reassuring grin and nod.
