Menzai Isanami

The conversation between him and this woman had helped him to gain a basic understanding of the redhead. Learning throughout the conversation that much like he, she was ever a curious one; always observing and studying the surrounding but her mannerism and reason for doing so seemed to have a more meticulous approach. She might of been of kindred soul; one that he could possibly discuss such keen observations and understanding yet something about Alina felt off. Impossible for him to make into words why, whether it be his own canine instinct putting up a tiny iota of an inkling to be wary of the redhead. Even if she gave nothing to believe such or at least nothing easily discernable as she was still a stranger to him and if given time this peculiar warning may wane. Though one thing he was thankful for; an overt curious person that didn't push for him to tell an actual story of his past or concrete personal info and for that he held respect. A tinge of relief in his own face still obscured by the hood adorned over his head. Even moreso at having the topic change with Alina telling a statement he very much agreed." A statement I wholeheartedly agree with. An evening discussing topics over magic is one we will certainly be sharing after the ordeals of the job and whatever else may entail and follow afterwards." A slight nod of the head to show and ensure this promise will be fulfilled.

With their talk ended; Menzai had been very much content to walk in silence as much like Ms. Bloomfield he could discern she was not one for much idle chatter. Another opinion he shared as he walked alongside; enjoying just having a companion besides him on a long trek for once.

Hours passed before the two eventually arrived at the town of Petunia with a single look of the small town telling him more than enough. The place while small had more quaint and inviting feel; a place that a beastkin like him would find more comfortable to settle in as it lacked the unsettling smell of smog and oil to his nose's relief. Shortly after entering the town, did he decide he would let Alina take the lead with him being an outsider in more ways than one and lacked proper experience handling the details of the job.

And so, the wolf let his stride slacken slightly to allow the redhead to walk two steps ahead of him. Stopping briefly when she asked for directions though knew the whereabouts of the warehouse before she even returned, having heard their conversation.

Not that it bothered him having to walk another short stretch with the two already traveled nearly half the day just to reach the town. As long walks never bothered the wolf and if given the chance he would be fine walking from morning to night and enjoy every moment.

Along he walked; both following and observing to learn how meetings with the clients were to be handled. Much like Alina, he found himself surprised at the size of the warehouse which proved unexpected with a part of him curious of seeing its inside but this was not the time to wander off when a job took priority.

Merely stepping into the shop lead them to meeting with the client who turned out to be a kindly old man. A friendly wrinkled face with an aged body that gave off a mild myriad scent of flowers that gave away his countless years working with flowers. He was one to normally avoid large fields of flowers; not out of disgust but simply due to the overwhelming sweet and sometime spicy scents of the flowers uncomfortably tickling or burning his nostrils. Better for him they had no need to venture deep into the warehouse, but the client was purely inviting and pleasantly warm. For the time being lightly bowed his head in greeting, choosing to be quiet unless given a question or asked for introductions.

He could only nod in agreement to her statement with his head shifting slightly towards her direction." Yes, such as it is for any outsider attempting to learn and understand the culture and politics unknown to them. Yet, I am in no rush and so can take my time in studying the mannerism and habits of humans with this festival proving optimal opportunity for such." Again the wolf gave a nod of his head after hearing the analogy exemplifying his own musing of the festival's purpose.

This had proven to be a beneficial conversation with him gleaning some details on how humans spent their time albeit partial. To garner more, he simply needed to experience the festive events himself and plans to do so after the pair finished with the safe delivery of these flowers.

So much to learn and research regarding humans and the outside world though he was free to go about it at his pace; free to enjoy himself as he did so. And even within the village, Menzai had always been one of the more perspective kins, catching and noticing things that well trained and astute eyes might fail to see.

His eyes; sharper than a hawk, filled with curiosity and mystique and always shifting to take in as much of the world around him. A gaze that took in the shape, color, size of everything that came into view in search of understanding or to find any irregularities for to him all things carried a story and at times told more than what words could convey. If not for such an observant eye, he would certainly have missed Alina's sudden strange action.

One that lasted for the briefest of a second; witnessing her body freezing as if his statement of observation took her off-guard and caused a momentary shutdown. It was peculiar to get such a reaction from simply stating her lack of interest in the festival prompting him to raise an eyebrow in an curious manner. Choosing not to push the matter, however and hoped that would be the end of it so that they could continue discussion on the surrounding event.

To his dismay, the redheaded woman instead began telling him personal details of her past. He took in a slow deep breath to keep from sighing as a part of him regretting mentioning his observation as he should of known doing so lead to these kind of personal talk. Since as a child he held an aversion over hearing others talk about their personal life or problems with the only two special exceptions being back home. Still, he was always taught to be respectful and as such made sure to listen to every word while keeping any sign of disinterest in his expression taking an effort.

Waiting for her to finish as any respectful person might do before choosing to chime in." So a family of merchants? Quite understandable why one of such upbringing such as yours gain a dislike or disdain towards big festive events that draws in big crowds of people. Having to endure waves of customers with some being less than savory at times that its no wonder such a lifestyle drains away at you." Tilting his head slightly while his right hand rose to lightly stroke at his chin to show he was pondering over what she told him while his eyes studied her over; searching for any signs that may tell him her story to be true. He wasn't doing so out of suspicions as he had no grounds or reason to do so but after learning she was brought up by merchants, something about it being off tugged at his mind though considered it to simply be nerves with traveling and being alone with a human for the first time.

And as if to make matters worse, Alina was now asking for some personal stories of his own making the struggle to keep his eyebrow or corners of his mouth from twitching rather difficult." Yes, I have been told that my eyes put even the sharpest hawk to shame, Ms. Bloomfield. An attribute I am personally proud of while others of my village would tell you to be bothersome and invasive." A slight frown creased the corners of his eyes." Though I have to say in regards to having interesting stories that you would be wrong, Ms. Bloomfield. As I can attest to having no interesting stories, at least none that would interest save but for those who hold a great interest towards the learning and studies of magic." Taking a moment to cough against his fist to clear his throat then slipped the hand back within hiding of the long sleeves folded across his chest." I am thankful in your understanding, however as it is true that I can not speak of my clan's secrets and as such only fair I do not delve into such topics considered off-limits...unless given permission that is."

" And I must state now that I am not one to talk about myself much...though will mention that I came from a caring and supportive family. Parents of which who were not happy or approving of my decision towards becoming a scholar but still accepted and helped me whenever needed." For a moment he gazed off into the forest; lost in thought as he briefly recalled the image of his parents shocked expression upon telling them his intention to set out into the open world. He blinked a few times to brush away the image before turning his attention forward once more." A life that involved countless research and preparations on humans and magic eventually leading me here traveling here besides you. Like I said, my past holds very little of interest though living as a scholar and joining fenixtear could certainly change that. "

" Then let us hope we do not come across any such individuals who give in to such paranoid thoughts and accusing others of being a criminal is no joking matter." He exclaimed with a slight hint of irritation in his voice, but soon returned to a calm and somewhat flat tone shortly after. It was clear that this beastkin wasn't one to enjoy jokes though understand that there was serious or cruel intent and so let it be even when she nearly let slip how much it amused her which his gaze didn't fail to notice.

Using the time traveling in quiet besides the woman to take in the sights and smells of the city with his nose picking up the pleasant aroma and freshly baked goods and candy and all sorts of unknown but delicious food from the various stalls being put up. They thankfully made having to endure the bitter sweat coming from the hordes of excited humans and foul exhaust from the vehicles more tolerable. As expected inhaling all these new and alien scents had him craving to partake of them in both hunger and curiosity but he was on a job and until completed all else were secondary and unimportant unless a need for such arise.

It wasn't long before they exited the town of Crocus and were trekking through the forest, no longer distracted by the crowds, sounds and smells. Now he was in a place familiar; at home where his tension melted away making the journey a more relaxing one.

While the quiet was nice; to remain so for too long might of came off rude and as such, Menzai had asked these questions. He tried to go with ones that were on topic of the current events and simple to answer though at the way Alina sighed and struggled briefly had the canine think otherwise. His ears pricked beneath the hood, the slight movement easily noticeable to one looking as a visible indication that he was listening to the redhead's explanation on the festival and its overall purpose. After listening to his acquaintance's explanation, he took her words into consideration; pondering over the royal rulers and how they watched over their citizens. From the books he has read this system of kings and nobility seemed to work well but was also a position of power that often lead to greed and corruption. It had always seemed apparent to him that giving so much power to one or two individual proved risky and dangerous though it also meant less chance of corruption compared to allowing a group to run things. No one system was perfect; each of them had their drawbacks and benefits if they succeed.

These thoughts swirled in his mind with a look of concentration on his face while a part of him always kept his senses alert for any dangers or in case of enemies attempting to attack. Finally pulling himself away from his own mind to realize how quiet he had been the past few minutes and coughed to clear his throat." Forgive me for the silence. Your words had me musing on the royal family. From what you have said, it seems humans tend to have to work quite hard for a living and as such the nobles plan these festivities and other possible as a way of distracting the populace from their daily tiresome ordeals and allow a respite of fun without worries." A curious and interesting bit of details he would be sure to write down later and made sure to store them away within his mind as he pulled his hand that had been scratching his chin in his bemusing away.

With the notes stored he turned his attention back onto her." Though throughout your explanation I have noticed the hint of disinterest in your voice. Does the festival not interest you personally, Ms. Bloomfield?" Her voice almost seemed to lack warmth even unlike those of the townfolk or of those they passed by which he made sure to give a slight bow of the head in greeting. Even as he made sure to acknowledge the unknown travelers, Menzai used his nose and sense of smell to check for any signs of risk but whereas Aline seemed to act as if they didn't exist or were worth giving attention to of which he found peculiar. Yet as he knew nothing of the woman having just met her less than an hour ago so it was not his business to inquire to as she had her own reasons.

Unlike Alina, who was stressing over trying to come up with a concrete plan, Menzai was content with seeing how things go. Not that he didn't enjoy thinking up plans ahead of times but he also found that simply going with the flow often garnered interesting results. And there was the fact this was a very simple and straightforward delivery quest with little risk of danger so he saw no need to fret over the details regarding how they would get the flowers to its destination. It also meant the two could take it easy; allowing him a better observation of the town and its folks daily going on and even more interesting in thanks to the ongoing festival going on currently.

" Correct I much prefer avoiding the unwanted stares and attention altogether. As it will make things easier generally. " A small nod of the head; thanking the redhead for her understanding. He then gave the hood a firm tug to adjust and ensure it was properly covering the furry ears which were flickering from the various sounds of footsteps and somewhat uncomfortable roaring of vehicles driving along pavement. Humans were lucky to not have his hearing for he couldn't imagine in living in such an obnoxiously loud place yet he had no choice but to try and tune out what he can and get used to the booming and rank fumes they let out.

A slight discomforting twitch of his nose though a far more welcomed odor compared to the stench of that mysterious drink. A shiver ran down his back upon being reminded of the smell until he heard Ms. Bloomfield's displeasing comment causing him to raise an eyebrow." A criminal? Absolutely not!" He answered bluntly; offended at the mere accusation." I assure you that I am in no way whatsoever a criminal. And if all it takes for humans to think one to be such is a hood then they are quick to paranoid judgement." Scoffing at the mere notion as for why one chooses to wear one are reasons of their own and their business.

Folding his arms across the chest with his hands settled back within the sleeves." That should be all then." With a shake of the head, he walked alongside Aline, having learned the location they were heading to be a fair bit of walk after having asking for further details that she gained from Torys." Hm, seeing that quest has stated nothing about urgency then going at our own pace will be fine." He was more than fine going at a casual pace to take in the sights.

Travel to Petunia city was quiet and easygoing as expected with conversation from Menzai would consist of questions regarding human customs and way of life." The townfolk all seem rather excited and worked up over this festival which is in celebration to the prince's birthday. Are these festivals over the royal family common? And do they take good care of the citizens? " These were just a few of the questions he had in mind over the current events taking place.

Having confirmed that Kali's heart was beating properly again and tried to inspect the woman to make sure there were no other major injuries. Only to have his arm grabbed; finding himself pulled off-balanced into an armlock as the sudden harsh tug caused a jolt of pain in the shoulder making him let out a wincing grunt." Hngh, so this is how you give thanks for fixing up that heart of yours? Good to know." He spoke through slightly gritted teeth as his ears flicked at her mentioning a rub pressing against her lung followed by a threat which had the fox let out a brief airy laugh.

He gave his arm a testing twist and pull but her grip was too firm and with the weight of her body proved quite difficult for him to break free and he certainly didn't have the muscles to lift and slam her down." Oh you want them cuffs off? I'll get right on that!" His tone sarcastic as he did a mock patting of his haori to further state his sarcasm." A real grateful one we have here. Its a wonder why no one at the guild likes you." Shaking his head with a sigh followed by another small wince.

Finding the position uncomfortable and hurting his hips which was slightly twisted and shifted onto one knee then moved his free hand to grip the constrained arm." So, let's see. If I don't set you free you will break my arm? That would be quite painful for sure though probably not as bad as a strong shock...and would be very unfortunate if the seizing cause that punctured rib pierced the lung." Tilting his head in thinking manner." And considering the speed we were traveling we are probably a good few hours from the town and I'm certainly no medic." Lifting his head to point his masked face towards her, a look of intrigued curiosity beneath." But, sure go ahead and break the arm if you like and see how long you last with blood pooling into your lung." He let out a cheeky click of the tongue; waiting to see what Kali would do after truly considering the situation as while a broken arm would take months to heal, he doubted she would get far in such a state and the cuffs cutting off her magic. The fox then gave off a few warning crackles of static testing her to try it.

" That is correct, yes." Nodding his head after reaffirming the type of magic he uses and was grateful to see her intrigued by it. As there have been a number of fellow beastkin that found his barrier magic weak or uninteresting back at the village, the thought bringing a brief frown to his face before returning to its near blank expression." The blacken oak one might indeed be the easier of the two but I think the flower delivery quest is best." Mainly as he didn't feel ready to be surrounded and interacting with a group of the town folk just yet.

While Alina grabbed the poster; Menzai turned his head away briefly after noticing a few other guildmates leaving as it seemed the woman from before, Ria accepted the challenge of another unknown member whose name he did not know. This proved a prime opportunity to observe their magic and fighting style, but alas that would have to wait another time and turned his attention back onto the redhead to hear her question regarding how he preferred to be addressed." Hm, Mr. Isanami is preferable if you please, Ms. Bloomfield." Finding that this was the best way to keep relationships with the others in a formal distance as he wasn't here to make friends.

With the quest decided and where to meet settled, he gave a bow of the head." I shall return momentarily and meet you then." Setting off towards the table where he left the two piles of books and upon reaching them had lifted his hands to give the top books a quick tap of his clawed index fingers. Seconds later, a light blue transparent bubble formed around the two piles of books then slipped his hands beneath them. And with ease he lifted them up as the bubbles almost seemed to float and bounce gently against his palms making carrying the books easier for him to carry off to his room.

After a quick walk down the hallway did he arrive at his room where he was able to place the books on the desk as the barrier bubbles popped shortly after. Briefly taking a glance around the bedroom; besides the books the room looked as if no one had been staying here the past week.* Seems I spent too much time at the library. When I return I need to get the preparations done.* Rubbing a finger against his chin as he mused to himself though this task would have to wait as it would be unbecoming and rude to keep Ms. Bloomfield waiting and so quietly exited the room to make way for the main lobby once more. To his relief that horrendous odor had lessen in intensity by this point to which he let out a relieved sigh, not that the stench was gone completely though and so avoided breathing in too deeply.

Before setting off towards the front door, he made sure to take a moment to slip the hood on to cover the top of his head, the canine ears in particular. With that taken care of, Menzai headed to the front door where he found Alina waiting who was thankfully able to get the approval from Torys." Then shall we be off? Ah, one last thing that I must mention or more a favor in this instance? I must inquire avoiding mention of my..less human features while around those not part of fenixtear." Wanting to keep his presence and that of beastkin little known as possible at least for the time being.

Now that everything was taken care of, the two were off; making their way to Petunia Town.
Menzai Isanami

The redhead sitting across from him seemed to be well mannered; a rare trait from the few human interactions he has had up to this point. Though that smile of hers felt...off? Uncertain what it was that gave him such a feeling, but the curling of her lips almost looked forced as if it wasn't completely genuine. A strange thing to think towards a person who spoke and greeted him more kindly and certainly rude and so kept such thoughts to himself.

" Hm, yes. I have been told the name given to me to be particularly interesting though being seen as intriguing is refreshing compared to being considered strange or a freak due to my..less than human features." A brief motion of his hand towards his twitching canine ears which is why he has opted to wearing a hood while traveling in the public, preferring to avoid conflict that would variably happen with how somewhat close minded people can be. And through Aline, he gained the partial name of the woman who dropped off the books and made a mental reminder to thank this Ria properly the next time he encountered her.

He took a moment to glance over some of the books titles before hearing Ms. Bloomfield speaking up after being briefly lost in thought which he took this chance to glance over a few of the book titles. These probably didn't have a deep telling of the regions history but would help him discern the basics at least. Turning his his attention back to the redhead to see that she had a similar thought of partaking in a quest." I agree. An opportune time to work together and see how we will get along."

Pushing off the table to stand; deciding to leave the books on the table for the moment as he prepared to follow Aline to the board, when the sound of coughing and hacking caught the attention of his ears. Soon spotting the male individual who was standing next to the female with the horrid cup and found himself frowning slightly. A reaction he himself would be having were he in the man's position which had him wondering if he had enhanced senses too for he didn't carry the scent of a beastkin. Unexpected and peculiar to see another with a strong sense of smell and seeing the gagging reaction had him offering the person his condolences in his mind before moving on towards the board, thankfully further away from that foul stench to his nose relief.

Strolling his way to stand besides Ms. Bloomfield, his footsteps nary making a sound as he went and his hands slipping into the long sleeves. His eyes scanning over the board, where he soon discovered that a festival would be taking place with some of the quests pertaining to its preparation.

Most of the quests seemed simple and easy, save for two which were somewhat higher in rank. These two seemed to be the more challenging and interesting one but since this were to be his first case and with a fellow guildmate who herself was somewhat new to the guild still and figured it best to do one of the more easygoing jobs. She proved to think of a similar mind by choosing two of the jobs that were in laymen terms, errands towards setting up the festival.

Turning his gaze to the two jobs she showed interest in before she explained that her magic was not suited nor optimal for combat to which he shook his head." No need for apologies as such lack of information is on my part. I have use of barrier magic, so it isn't optimal for combat but fret not. As the jobs you have selected will likely have little risk of encountering dangerous individuals unless they hate flowers or festivals?" Still, the possibility was always there and better to be safe by remaining on guard; a good thing his magic was a defensive type making his skills perfect for most jobs like these.

And so as he read over the two jobs in questions and pondering on which the two could handle best or the least troublesome. While the thought of transporting a large batch of flowers didn't sound too appealing for his nose (any scent would be better than that mystery aroma of the cup) yet proved the better option over having to do menial tasks and being surrounded by groups of people. As he was never one much for crowds and so the choice was easily decided." After some thought, the special delivery quest seems the most appealing. If you agree with taking the quest or if you prefer the other then that is fine too. " He gave a small bowing nod of the head, waiting to hear her answer." And before we set off, I must get those books to my room if you don't mind the short wait."
Menzai Isanami

The casual demeanor and lack of worry from the other guild members seemed to indicate that such incidents were a daily occurrence. An important thing to note as he now knew to expect such antics making it easier to prepare for odd and unexpected events. Yet, trying to focus on his note tasking was proving to be difficult as his nose picked up a horribly pungent scent, the source to be that of a cup filled with an unknown liquid resting by the woman at the bar.

A mere whiff of it turned the contents of his stomach sour and instilled in him an urge to vomit. He fought the unsettling sensation with a gulp while using the writing to help distract from the foul fumes tickling uncomfortably at his nostrils which nearly had him gag. The only saving grace being the distance from the horrendous smell though only a small comfort. An instance where Menzai cursed his heighten sense of smell; doubting he could hold back the sickly feeling were that vile cup drew any closer and likely not only lose his stomach but pass out as well.

Trying to breathe little as possibly; inhaling only when needed while forcing himself to keep composure. Almost thankful to have the young woman pull up to the table as she would offer a better distraction than simply writing.

His dark blue eyes lifted from the page of his notebook to peer at the woman sitting across from him, the pair of tiny sharp red irises nearly glinting like rubies. Those furry canine ears adorning the top of his head flicked and perked; signs he was listening and caught every word she spoke regarding introducing herself to be Alina Bloomfield. Eyes filled with a curious gaze lowered briefly to the extended hand having recall the human custom of handshakes; a somewhat more physical and respectful way of greeting a new stranger.

Not wishing to be rude to the first person he would be speaking to within these halls besides the guild leader and placed his pencil down within the confines of the opened notebook and closed it before nudging it to the side. Once taken care of, he lifted his right to cough into it as if to clear his throat while it was more to hide the faint gag induced by that mysterious stench." Pleased to make your acquaintance, Ms. Bloomfield though apologies for I must refuse the handshake. Mind no offense as there is no fault on your end but simply due to the situation regarding.." Trailing off as he opened his right hand to display his clawed fingers, wanting to avoid any risk of accidentally scratching or cutting her hand and chose instead to offer a small respectful bow of the head then folded his hands before him.

" And I am indeed new to the guild having only joined a week prior. So I have little experience in witnessing this...rowdy bunch as you put it? " His right eyebrow lifting; uncertain if that was the correct term to refer the group but for the moment it would suffice." Perhaps a bit unorthodox and untamed this group is though the building still stands to this day." A brief waving motion of his hand to indicate the building." So a kitchen fire seems of little threat to those of this guild." Understandably apparent considering the nonchalant and amused reactions going on.

Turning his gaze back onto the woman sitting across from him where he noticed that he was being observed much like he was doing. Taking note of the smile creasing her cheeks, but the look in her eyes betrayed the friendly demeanor she tried to portray, whereas his gleamed a mixture of curiosity and indifference. With an near blank expression to match save but for the slightest wrinkle between his brows hinting of disgust. He listened to Aline tell that she herself had only been here a month and stating her disappointment in missing out on the battle against the dragon." Unfortunate to have missed witnessing this dragon having heard a bit about this terrible beast. Quite a feat, slaying a dragon. " He finished with a quick nod." Ah, right. It has slipped the mind to introduce myself. The name is Menzai Isanami." He intended to add onto the introduction, when another woman, who's name he did not get yet though surprisingly knew his came over to place several books on the table near him and learning they contained history information on Fiore and two other nations.

A pleased shine shown in his eyes briefly before returning to a look of indifference." Thank you, miss. I will be sure to peruse the contents of these books shortly. " A thankful bow of the head as he gently patted the topmost book then started returning his attention back to Aline when spotting the guild leader post up new jobs, the first time seeing any new ones get placed since joining." Hm, seems some quests have been put up. Would you wish to join in inspecting and possibly accepting one to work together?" Being new to the guild and doing jobs that he couldn't refuse the opportunity to finally take his first quest to get a firsthand experience of working on one alongside a human.
