Tristan Glory

Before long Tristan found himself at the ranch where he could see a number of Pokemon he had yet seen before. Some were cute and easily caught his attention like the wooly mareep and the batch of orange feathered chickens he especially found himself interested in, then there were the tauros which just screamed dangerous. Upon first look they seemed to be temperamental with the way they huffed and stamped about their pen telling him to steer clear of them. Tristan, however, wasn't exactly a fan of being at the ranch mainly due to the unpleasant smell that typically lingered around these places but compared to how badly the sewers must smell like, this was easily the superior choice both for the sake of his nose and not getting dirty.

From the looks of things these pokemon weren't wild meaning trainers couldn't just go attempting to catch them, but surely there were ways to obtain any of them. After some quick scans of his pokedex to learn each of their names; Tristan found himself wanting either the mareep or torchic though the miltank could also make for an interesting option. But that would have to wait as his reason for being at this ranch was to once again see about this egg stealing incident and carried on, thankfully avoiding any tauros and miltank patties along the way and all the while his face showed a mixed expression of disgust and curiosity.

An expression that quickly turned blank and eyes going wide as he noticed a shadow loom over him and turned to see the huge, towering Uraring? At least that was what he thought he saw at first, but then realized the imposing figure was that of a hugely bulky man who looked as if to be built of powerful muscles and a great big bushy beard hiding his gruff face. This was a man who lived a long and hard life, the exact opposite of Tristan who lived an easy and cushy life that left him with the sense that this bulky brute could snap in half like a fragile twig without even trying as he was left craning his neck to look up at him with a nervous gulp.

He already angered two others and that definitely did not go well with it nearly getting him punched by that fiery she-beast and a humiliating defeat by a female giant. In fact, he has taken to noticing having met several such intimidating folks and started to wonder if this region was filled with giants. It took a moment for him to realize he had been staring up at the man wide eyed due to being intimidated and pondering on such that he quickly scrambled to collect himself by clearing his throat." Ahem, y-yes well... first I would like to clarify that my name is Tristan...Tristan Glory." He paused after introducing himself, detesting being referred to as a boy then cleared his throat once more to continue." Consider it an honor for I, a Glory have decided to grace his presence upon your ranch to offer his assistance pertaining to the rumored issue regarding eggs being stolen." Placing a hand on his hips as he tried to maintain a confident bravado while speaking in a somewhat cocky, albeit slightly shaky voice that nearly cracked at the end as it was clearly taking effort to maintain this tough image in front of such an imposing bear of a man.

If there was one thing Tristan disliked, it would be studying. Reading in itself was fine as most of his time was often spent on social media, but studying? It was downright boring with things he normally didn't care enough to learn, but after that awful loss he knew that what was in this book were things he needed to learn if he intended to continue as a trainer. At first it was boring as expected though as he read on, found himself actually getting interested in the topic as he read a fair bit of facts throughout the reading session. Taking in info about all the different types which proved to be more than he thought along with status effect; one in particular he recognized from what King experienced." So you got burned. Guess it makes sense after taking that ember straight on.... I'll have to be more careful from now on." He stated with a sigh, still angry with himself for making such bad calls, but at least now he knew about status effect and the various pokemon types and though there were still more to read, he decided to save that for another time and put the book away.

Doing so as he didn't want to sit around studying all day likely to put him to sleep making the reading a waste. He also did couldn't bring himself to read anymore with some group of kids nearby being loud and distracting who seemed to be in the middle of some game. Thankfully, none of them had taken notice of him to try and drag him in like they had that girl who seemed to be a rookie trainer much like him. Standing up then following up with some stretching and while doing so took a few moments to inspect the girl and realized she looked vaguely familiar. The only ones he took notice of was the only other guy among the group and this one though only because he recalled her taking a picture and her manner of dressing was pretty poor. She gave off a frumpy appearance, but otherwise seemed to be nothing special, so unlike that she-beast with the intense and dangerous vibe which made him recall how she attempted to hit him, and this led to thinking of Freya. His face tense up at the mere thought of her; frustrated at the way she humiliated him, but she also did save him from that wicked girl's brutish assault. This left Tristan conflicted regarding Freya though his mind was still a mess from the whole ordeal and so would put sorting that whole thing out aside for now.

Seeing that the group of kids and the girl were in the middle of their thing that he saw no reason to stick around as he wasn't interested in getting involved anyway. Tristan was never one to like nor get along with kids and so, if possible, would avoid them; thankfully those back at the school didn't bother him.

Then the rich teen remembered the store clerk mention something about some nearby ranch having trouble with eggs being stolen or something along those lines. After having been stuck with studying for the past half hour, he decided this was a good opportunity to do something interesting and considering how low he was on funds after buying all those pokeballs, a chance to make some decent money made for an enticing endeavor. Taking one last look over at the group where Faye was in the middle of battle with her eevee and scoffed." Stuck battling kids...well good luck not losing to those brats." An amusing thought that made him feel a bit better, but even he wouldn't wish another person to actually lose to a bunch of kids; such a thing seemed far more embarrassing than even the horrible loss he suffered whom was at least older and an experienced trainer from the look of things.

His decision made, Tristan made his way to the nearby ranch that was luckily easy to spot or otherwise he might have found himself getting lost and ending up in an unfortunate location like say...the unmarked forest. Off he went to the ranch intending to find ask the first staff member of the ranch regarding the egg stealing issue.

Tristan was told a good number of things from the clerk which offered up plenty of choices for him to pick to do. Though the sewers were an instant no as he had no intention of traversing such a dirty and disgusting place, the smell alone would be impossible to get off him and would not help his bad mood either. And his pokemon probably wouldn't much care for any of it as well, plus the fact he would have to wait till nighttime gave another reason for refusing to traverse the dank and dark underbelly filled with waste along with the unknown dangers lurking within.

Besides, he wanted nothing more than to leave this town after that whole debacle and so took out his pokedex to peruse over the map. None of it made sense to him due to his inability to read maps, but even he could see that route one seemed the easier route as route four looked to consist of rocky like terrain. After some more thought his decision was made; choosing to use the gps this time so he wouldn't be wandering around aimlessly this time. a decision that caused some unseen force to let out a great sigh of relief.

With the use of the pokedex gps, Tristan eventually found his way outside the city with a few delays here and there as he still struggled to make out the paths at time. There was also the brief moment he hesitated as this would be the first time he has ever ventured out from a city into the wilds where all sorts of dangers waited out there. But he was a trainer; traveling the region was inevitable and unavoidable and so after a few minutes to gather up his courage combined with some encouraging caws from king did Tristan finally stepped foot outside for the very first time in his sheltered life. As one could expect he was nervous and uncertain being out and away from the safety of a town, but he wanted to put behind that horrid battle and the city that did nothing but remind him of such humiliation.

Now that he was actually out and traveling did, he find that his mood was beginning to improve, possibly aided by all the new and strange sights never seen before by one who lived all his life in high end extravagant cities. The closest he ever got to seeing the wilds were the glimpses from when looking out the plane or train windows when traveling. The sweet and gentle smell of plant life were certainly more soothing and pleasant on the nose compared to car exhaust and motor oil or metal that he was all too used to. Still, he couldn't shake off the depressing mood or feeling of guilt as he looked at King, reminded once more of horribly he handled that battle as he took notice of the weight of the book nurse Joy gave him.

As much as he detested having to study or read up on things he normally didn't care about since it was a waste of time. Yet, he definitely could not keep carrying on being so clueless on pokemon battling, especially if his aim was to become champion in the end. And so, Tristan chose to do something he never thought he would actually do...study. Having found a shaded spot beneath a tree and after laying a blanket down as he refused to get his pants dirty did, he settle down where he took the old and tattered book out." Ugh...can't believe I have been reduced to this. But if it will help me get payback against Freya....let's just get this done with." He said with a defeated sigh and opened the book and this time he actually paid attention to what he was reading even if he had to force himself to do so. As now one of his current goals was to actually be competent at battles for the sake of his pokemon and to get a rematch against Freya to prove both to her and himself he wasn't a failure of a trainer.

Tristan entered the shop while knowing he didn't have much; a far cry from what he typically had for shopping and hated his lack of funds. It was cause of this that he came here to get some pokeballs seeing how he only had four left which would make catching new pokemon risky and difficult. How he even caught the Riolu with only one still left him shocked or at least would be if his mind wasn't filled with thoughts on that horrid battle which left an acrid taste on his tongue.

His mood foul and plenty done with this town and so didn't waste time perusing the shops wares as he might normally have done and went straight to the counter though unlike him King was curiously looking around; hopefully nothing overtly shiny in sight as murkrows tended to be unable to help themselves around shiny things." Hey...I'll take ten pokeballs please." His reply short and simple, the sooner they could get out of here the better, but then stop to consider how long till his next visit to a town and figured it best to get some info even if a little having already hurt himself plenty as is for the day." And if can tell me about any certain or special intel that would be appreciated." He asked the clerk, struggling to hide the annoyance in his tone though it wasn't that the clerk annoyed him and just his bad mood almost spilling into what he said hence why he kept his talking to a minimum lest he said something he shouldn't.

He waited to get his pokeballs to which he muttered his thanks and would remain to hear what the clerk could tell him, if they had no information to give then he would exit the shop without another word. A good thing too for King was getting antsy atop his shoulder due to the few glittery things it could see and he with no money to afford any such damages.

The last ten minutes or so had gone by in a blur leaving Tristan uncertain as to how exactly he found himself sitting there in the corner of the pokemon center. King already handed over to be healed though not with a bit of fight as the bird didn't want to leave his side due to being worried for its trainer, but a bit of coaxing got him settled down enough to go.

His mind still hazy and out of it though Freya's last words were still fresh in his mind, and they stung worse than her prior insults since it was true. Next thing he knew a tattered heavy book was dropped on his lap pulling him his fog filled mind with a grunt to see nurse Joy standing before him. Listening to her explain with a bit of condolences while looking down at the book; normally would have told her he didn't need any of her pity or this beat up book which looked as if it belonged in the trash, but he felt too dejected and defeated to talk much. And after that utterly abysmal display he probably needed it or the fact this nurse was still willing to help him made him think it best not to refuse it though it did little to help quell the shame sitting in his stomach. A few moments longer before he finally realized King was back on his shoulder gently pecking at his cheek prompting a faint weak smile and gave the shiny murkrow some pets.

" Um....thanks." He murmured his thanks to nurse Joy for the book in an awkward manner; not much used to such acts of actual kindness. Things really were different when not surrounded by nothing but people that were all about me mentality and it left him feeling so out of place. Without another word he got up and made his way outside while actively avoiding looking at others not wanting to see if any were pointing and laughing at him, the mere thought almost making him seethe with anger though not them but himself. So filled with shame and self-hate that he wanted nothing more than to leave this town soon as possible and turn back as it was just a reminder of one of his most pathetic failures, before that though he figured he should make a stop at the pokemart thankfully located nearby. Seeing that he didn't know when the last time he would reach a town and so made his way to the shop, putting the book away in his bag along the way.

The result of his plan ended up disastrous as he was forced to witness King take a bad blow as the bird stumbled back with a cry of pain while flapping his wings to put out any small lingering fires.* Damn it! Yet again my plans just got King injured....you fucking moron!* Tristan chastised himself; frustrated at getting his own pokemon hurt and this time worse than it was against Princess for he could see the Murkrow wincing in even more pain even when the ember gone out. Having not gotten to status effects yet had him unable to tell that King was afflicted with burn, not that he could even do anything about it.

The featherdance got through, but was nowhere near worth the cost with Freya's growlithe still in full health and King.* Hngh...shit...what do I do? Shitshitshitshit!* He repeated in his head; uncertain and now hesitant to call out his next attack fearing he will just send King into another attack. It was taking everything he had to keep himself together as he couldn't break down in front of all these people after talking big, but most of all that he didn't want his own pokemon seeing him that pathetic and lose faith in him... since he was already doing enough of that himself." King fly up and..no wait....char-" Cutting himself off as he stood there panting trying frantically to think of what to do with King taking some unknown damage that keeping his distance to wait for an opening wasn't an option now, but all of his movies were direct physical moves besides featherdance which was useless.

Tristan could do nothing but realize just how horribly inexperienced he was and probably less so than the usual trainers. He might have thought of quitting were it not the last chance given to him and that he had the pokemon relying on him now. And so far he has done nothing but done more harm to King with his stupid ideas who only got hurt like this to begin cause of him and just wanted to stop it before it got any worse." I...I surrender!" He forced himself to call out the words leaving the taste of bile on his tongue while hanging his head, shame and anger coursing through his veins like poison. This in turn made King look back in disbelief with a confused and worried caw before wincing from the burn damage.

It indeed felt like he was being pierced by those harsh, cold eyes that had shivers running down his spine. Not only that but she was looking down on him just like everyone else having him want nothing more to show everyone they were wrong to underestimate him. Starting with defeating her in this battle. And seeing King so determined helped him shake off some of the frustration and doubt.

Then the battle begun as Tristan saw the growlithe spew fire from its mouth flying at the Murkrow. His first thought was to tell him to dodge, but had a feeling that was what she expected him to do since King could take to the sky and get out of its range though doubted he could move fast enough to do so with lack of training. Tristan took note that the wave of fire wasn't that big or strong and an idea came to mind." Tch, don't think I'll fall for your tricks. King! Flap your wings and use the gust to hold back the flames and the moment it lets up quickly follow up with a featherdance!" Calling out the set of orders as King cawed out in response then began rapidly flapping his wings to fan up a gust, if the plan was successful a gust of black feathers would fly at the growlithe the moment the ember was stopped.

Tristan was trying to wrap his head around this situation; confused as to how things got to this point but all the emotions whirling within made it difficult to collect his thoughts. It didn't help either that he had to listen to the onlooking crowd starting to cheer for Freya while laughing at him wounding his already raw pride all the more as it was through great effort that he kept himself from shouting at them to shut up and screw off as this had nothing to do with any of them.

And the source of all this humiliation and frustration stood a short distance across from him glaring at him with that icy gaze which he returned in kind. All of this cause these two girls can't handle some simple harsh truth; at least unlike Freya's insults he never directly called them foul words and just pointed out how ridiculously difficult it was to understand the she-beast, a nickname she more than deserved.

Freya was hardly done at kicking him in the gut either with the way she spoke to him so coldly to which he responded with a scoff." I've already been called plenty foul things...I refuse to add coward to that and give you that justification."

Saying nothing more as he watched Freya call out her pokemon revealed to be a growlithe. A pokemon he saw back at the school; one that he had been interested in and this time knew its type to be a fire type though unfortunately he had no pokemon it was weak to. He could tell this would be a difficult battle with his pokemon just freshly healed or the fact he didn't have the chance work out a training plan for both King and Princess.

No point in complaining. Only thing he could do now is to try save face and aim to win to show Freya and the crowd not to go looking down on him." Good with me. Go, King and show that we aren't ones to back down." A confident caw rang out from the shiny Murkrow who flew over to land on the field who felt an intimidating shudder go through his body but the bird endured through it and readied himself for battle.

Tristan was waiting for Freya to offer her contact info or ask for his when he felt that ominous aura warning of danger. His attention turned to Steph where he saw the girl winding up her arm as if preparing to throw a punch at him. His eyes went wide with disbelief, surely this eldritch uttering beast wasn't crazy enough to go hitting him in a public place and over some simple but harsh criticism? Yet, the girl made no sign of stopping; it was clear she intended to follow through and this caused his face to pale then threw up his arms flinching." N-not the face!" He muttered out in panic waiting for the blow to come only to open his eyes to witness Freya stop and shove the enraged tomboy.

For a moment he was relieved and was preparing to thank Freya for stopping that wild she-beast's brutish attempt at assault. Only to hear the tall girl refer to him so cruelly and then in an instant she turned on a dime in his direction where he was struck by a dangerous intensity that completely dwarfed Steph's in call capacity. While Steph felt like a rampaging bull, Freya was more like a speeding train that struck him with those overtly harsh insults as each one felt like a dagger stabbing deep into his pride. What made them hurt even more was the fact it reminded him of the cruel things his brothers often referred to him and did so casually as if it was a normal thing only this time it was from someone of a lower status than him. Then she stamped over to tower over him like an intimidating giant causing him to feel as if his body shrank into the chair as he was left to stare at her in stunned silence and yet...even as he there staring up at her in stunned silence, Tristan could not help but be in awe. The pissed Freya looked like a most terrifying beauty the likes of which he never seen from any other girl.

His admiring did not last long as she followed up with more harsh statements that made him try to look away while gulping and in doing so saw that people had gathered taking pictures and videos of him looking pathetic and talked down to. His hands clenched and face flushed with embarrassment; unable to think of a retort though a voice in his mind warned him it best to keep his mouth shut. And then, as if being belittled wasn't enough she called him out with a challenging before stamping her way out as she stopped once to strike at his pride once more with a warning of not running.

Tristan could do nothing but tremble in the chair and take deep breath to try and ease the pain and shame but hearing the continued clicks of photos and mutterings from the crowd did little to help. All of this simply cause these two can't take harsh criticism as if it was his fault Steph spoke in such a way that was impossible to understand and expect others to just put in effort to understand her without any from her end.

And now he had been challenged in front of all these people. He could certainly slip out as he had no obligation to accept the challenge of such a foul-mouthed woman. If only were that he could. With all these peoples likely to posts this incident left a good chance his father or brothers could see this whole ordeal who had warned him not to do anything to embarrass the Glory name. With a huffing sniff of his nose, Tristan stood up and took a moment fixing his shirt and hair then made his way to the counter while trying to keep himself composed in front of the unwanted audience.

" I've come to gather my pokemon if they are healed. " He spoke in a low, stiff tone struggling to hide the hurt and humiliation in his voice. To make matters worse, his pokemon had just been healed and were going right into another battle which was especially unfortunate for Princess having yet gotten to even do proper introductions with the Riolu so now on top of humiliation he was feeling guilty towards them. Before long King and the pokeball holding Princess were set on the counter though King easily took notice that something was wrong with his trainer and hopped over giving his hand a worried gentle peck. Receiving this worried affection made him somewhat happy to know he had someone that cared about him as he pets the shiny Murkrow." There's nothing to worry about, King....though things happen so now we must battle again. I'll be sure to reward the two of you well later." Nodding with a small sigh as he received another gentle peck from King before flying up onto his shoulder.

Picking up the pokeball containing Princess and giving his thanks to nurse Joy, Tristan turned and made his way towards the front door to make his way outside. And waiting out there was Freya waiting who was still fuming though the sight of her looking so imposing made him for pause for a moment and gulp. Finding himself intimidated and in awe once more at her giant presence and might have thought her breathtaking were she not giving off that deadly aura. Shaking his head to shake off the jitters knowing he needed to get his composure and go all in if he wished to win this battle; a victory he must gain as it was the only way for him to save face, otherwise he was screwed regardless.

Exhaling slowly to regain his nerves, Tristan moved into position placing his right hand on his hip." I'm here....let's get this over with." Opening his mouth as if there was more he intended to say, but decided against it; at this point anything he'd say would likely only make this situation worse for himself." To clarify, I have two pokemon." He added in to let Freya know in case she might have more pokemon than him.

Here he was trying to be pleasant and yet he could feel hostility, mostly from Steph who seemed agitated over the fact he seemed to be ignoring her. This was in fact not the case as a girl giving off such intensity was difficult to ignore, but he had no response towards her gibberish manner of speaking; simply finding it easier to instead address her through Freya. Next thing he knew the girl was shaking her pokedex in his face looking all kinds of pissed off as if it was his fault he couldn't understand her when she hasn't even bothered to attempt to speak an actual language or at the very least brought a translator along.

At least Freya knew how to control herself though her face looked quite strained which he worried might tarnish her beauty. After listening to the pair did Tristan raise his right hand and used his right index finger to nudge Steph's pokedex out of his face." Is that so? Well then, I must apologize as I was not given the opportunity to interact with the others of the group back at the lab in part due to the professor's childish behavior in having that heinous beast throwing me from the lab." Shaking his head; still annoyed at the way he was treated by that washed-up grump. He found himself chuckling at the mention of him being called a quack; apparently said by Steph in that mess of demonic speak and thought there was at least one tiny thing the two shared in common that being their lack of respect to professor Kapock. Shifting with that slight smug grin made more noticeable with his head propped up by the chin resting on his palm and still chuckling as he did so.

" I'd have to agree though that the man isn't a quack. He must have some notable knowledge to get such a position. Not to mention the fact he did give us quite the interesting pokemon like that shiny litwick there who sparkles like a star." His kind words were genuine towards Dusk as he gave him a small wave from the tip of his fingers." Though I dare say the age is definitely getting to him and might to start thinking of retirement and get someone who knows how to properly treat the new trainers." Shaking his head once more with a tsk of the tongue.

Tristan shifted to move his right leg over the right know to keep them from getting sore or stiff before turning his attention to Steph once more with a raised brow." And considering that...Staph was it? Seeing that you are one of my direct rivals I have no obligation to be friendly towards you. Especially when it is impossible to even get a coherent understanding of what she says without some advanced translator which I have no intention of wasting my time with." Moving to pull out his own pokedex as he let out a sigh." Seeing that I have your contact, I might as well follow your deeds and exploits. Prove yourself worthy as my rival and I might bother to at least see you as a proper rival." Nodding his head, hoping this cleared things up.

Turning his attention back to Freya as that forced annoyed smile turn to a warm smile." And I would greatly enjoy getting your contact as well, miss Freya. I really do see great potential in you as an idol and perhaps with my tips and advice could very well make you the number one idol of the region...that is if that is the route you wish to go on. Either way, I'd enjoy keeping in touch hopefully to become good acquaintances." How bothersome that he even needed to explain himself to this pair of strangers; maybe if Steph actually bothered to learn how to actually speak...like a person, then he would at least acknowledge her, to a very minor degree. As it seemed most rookie trainers tended to forget that everyone was their enemy.

As such, becoming friends or all buddy-buddy would simply lead one to defeat. Trust no one, not even yourself, the motto of his family that he lived by. So far it has kept him from being betrayed among the rich community and shall do the same for him amongst the rabble clambering for that number one spot unknown that it was already claimed by him. It had to be his...this was his last chance as the brief image of his father flashed in his mind sending a chilling shiver down his spine and a glint of fear in his eyes.
