"I've been here nary a week and already I feel my mind growing sick, and my vision worsening. Mountains and fields switch formations, even disappear entirely, when I look away. I don't know what's causing this. And I am compelled to find out."

Theresa ot an Bol'hjar

Ahead. Sand, and trees. Fog hanging over, too thick to see past. Hiding all things inland.

Theresa gazed upon all of it for a moment. She turned her head behind her, but there was no trace of the galleon she had departed from. Nothing to row back to. She'd made her decision, and now she was here.

The Continent.

She gathered her belongings - her sword, shield, crossbow, cloak, and other bits and baubles within her satchel. As her little boat approached the shore, she stood up. The wood touched the sand, and she departed. Walking away for a moment, she turned back to the rowboat, wondering what to do with it.

Oh, what was the thought worth? She was warned plenty that this may be a one-way trip. And she wasn't about to leave so soon after she arrived.

She left the rowboat, and peered down both stretches of the coast. More sand, more trees, and more fog.

So she turned and headed inland, into the jungle before her.

Gerald Pithers

A dingy coffin came ashore, alone. It rested against the sand as the waves beat against it bit by bit.

Suddenly, it swung open, and then a skeleton popped out.

"EEEEEHHHHHHH!" Gerald called out, somehow, despite lacking vocal cords of any sort. His voice was loud, raspy, and unhealthily cockney in nature. He scanned his immediate area, and then proceeded to emerge from his sea-drenched coffin. He stretched for a bit, forgetting the fact that he had no muscles. He'd been in that coffin for a while, it just cane naturally to him.

"OI, CANNY!" He called out, "WOT DECIDUOUS MASS-A-LAND DISTEHBS ME SLUMBAH."

No one answered. He was hoping someone would, even though he knew full well he was alone.

"AHHH..." He muttered, still a little loud, before he perked up again. "NEED TO LOCATE, EHHH... AN ESTABLISHMENT, WHICH SERVES BEVERAGES... OF THE ALCOHOLIC VARIETY. YEH."

And off he wandered into the jungle ahead, on a quest for booze.

He'd realize fairly soon that he lacks the necessary organic contraptions to consume anything.

Hopefully.

THERESA OT AN BOL'HJAR

MARKED BY THE VIGILS

Cast out of her like-haired tribe of warriors, Theresa has adopted a lifestyle of combat and wanderlust. As such, she has come to the Continent out of sheer adventurous nature, wanting to dig up its mysteries and meet its many inhabitants, however dangerous the expedition may become.

GERALD PITHERS

MARKED BY THE VIGILS

The product of a mix-up in a sinister necromantic ritual, the drunkard Gerald was cast to sea shortly after his resurrection. After he washed up on the shore of the Continent, he decided he had nothing better to do and began exploring.

COASTAL VIGILS

Servants of an ancient and accursed proclomation, the lumbering Coastal Vigils announce all arrivals within the Continent, and mark them in such a way that they are never permitted to leave.

JOLLY GUTTERS

A leader amongst the black-blooded, inhuman Cleaver-Men originating from the ruined city of Aardvale, Jolly Gutters is the perfect example of a coloquially named "mark hunter", going out of his way to put down any such threats to the natives of the Continent.

JULIAN, KEEPER OF THE JUNCTION

A much, much older native of the Continent, Julian maintains the cross-connecting haven known as the Keeper's Junction. Full of information regarding the Continent and what lies within and around it, Julian is a friendly character who provides whatever he can to those he calls friends.

"Well... there is one more place that comes to mind."

"Where?"

"Far south of here, there's a stretch of land, big stretch. Seafarers wander along the edges and say it goes on for days. All you can see before the fog hanging over gets too thick is the coast. Sometimes sand, sometimes dirt, but there's always trees."

"What's so special about it?"

"Well it's new land. Section of the map no one's claimed yet. There's explorers and prospectors, even some armys' scouting parties sailing there every other week. Territory, resources, indigenous species, all up for grabs. That attracts a lot of people, y'know."

"Is it dangerous?"

"'Course it is. Not everyone has come back but, the ones who do never went beyond the shore. That's why no one knows anything about it. But that's just what an intrepid adventurer like you is attracted to, isn't it?"

"It just might be. What's the place called?"

"Lots of names for it. Folks around here, though? We just call it the Continent."

Important: To preface any who are considering joining but may be intimidated by the IC's buildup, don't be. The game is all about new encounters with little to no leading forward unto, for the most part.

So. The idea behind Undiscovery is simple. The Continent, and everything beyond it, is open to interpretation. Countries, civilizations, species and gods are all up to the players, including myself, to create. You can make up an entire people and their history or just stick to one dude, or a handful, either's fine by me. One of the goals here is for the game to be malleable.

And the other goal, is to build up the Continent, from its lore to its landmasses. You can contribute as much or as little as you want. Focus on entire settlements, or just your own character and their interactions with everyone else's.

Aa far as rules go, the norm applies, plus the following:

  • You are free to create anything you like to put within the Continent, but please keep in mind that this is a high fantasy setting. Magic, medieval, steampunk, all those and similar are acceptable. Don't come in here with laser minigun-toting characters or modern/futuristic style civilizations. Be sure to practice some self-moderation.
  • I don't care how powerful you make your characters or civilizations or what have you, but please, if things get too ridiculous, I'm gonna have to take action.
  • Playing as someone who has traveled to the Continent is preferred, but I'm cool with native characters as long as they don't imply that they know the Continent's greatest secrets. And as well, playing as a native means they should have never traveled outside of the Continent, mostly due to lore aspects. I'm willing to forgive foregoings of this rule because I haven't made those lore bits too clear yet.
  • There may be conflict between some pieces of the player-created lore. If someone has submitted something that you're not 100% on board with, just do what I do and deliberately neglect to acknowledge that particular subject matter's existence. Trust me, I'll have a fair reason as to why someone can see a lake in one place where someone else sees a hill.
  • The posting speed and word counts will vary. I'd like to consider Undiscovery as reaching all across the free-to-casual-to-advanced spectrum. I am absolutely someone who prefers quality over quantity. I don't care if your posts are like, a couple sentences, just so long as they get the point across with an absence of too much filler. And don't feel that you have to match someone else's word counts or writing speed just because they're higher or faster than yours.
  • This game will start out as Jump-In, but I may switch it to Apply or even close it off to newcomers if things get too hectic. Just a fair warning.

Now, for character submissions, I prefer to make the process as open as possible. You can devise your own sheet format, or just write however long a description you feel is appropriate, like I prefer to do.

And that's all there is to it. If you have any questions, talk to me or @UrbanEvolution. And lastly, enjoy yourselves. That's more important than anything.
Thread will be going up in a matter of hours. IC may or may not begin shortly after.

Right now I'm just gonna inform you guys that, normally, I don't like to employ character sheets. You guys can make up your own, or just type up quick/long descriptions of your characters, like I'm going to do. Either is fine with me.
And here's the one I'm working on for my good friend and co-GM @UrbanEvolution.

Suppose I may as well put up the digital rendition WIP of my own main character.

I swear to god if it has a "Strange Organization of the Fire-Breathing Lizard" in it, I am going to be disappointed, @SepticGentleman

Nah, lizards and fire are more Urban's thing.

I'm more a bird and fish man myself.
Not just cities folks, creatures and dungeons and what have you are all welcome.

Why, I'm in the mind for a quaint little fishing hamlet. With some boisterous inhabitants.
You guys seem to really enjoy your cities. That's good. The Continent will be nice and bustling.
