One Year Ago...

[Egg Battle Fleet - Skies Over Holoska]

A bright yellow streak could be seen blasting through the barrage of cannon fire from the various Egg Battleships as Super Sonic made a beeline for the doctor's mech, flying clean through the power core before stopping and turning in mid air. "Sorry I had to put your plans on ice again, Eggman. How about you just give it up already, you're never gonna win." He'd say with a smirk, the enraged doctor turning his pod towards his nemesis.

"You think you've won, hedgehog? This battle's barely even begun!" He'd call out in retort, a larger mech rising from below. The golden hedgehog would roll his eyes. "Oh come on now, that really the best you've got? You're losing your touch- GAH!" His taunt would be cut off, his form flying into the deck of a nearby battleship as the mech lowered its cannon. "Surprise, rodent! This is the most powerful mech the Eggman Empire has ever constructed! You don't stand a chance!"

Standing back up, Super Sonic would smirk once more. "Looks like I was wrong, this is gonna be fun. Alright, Eggman... Let's Go!"

The battle would be long and intense, able to be viewed from miles away as explosions began to envelop the Egg Battle Fleet...

Present Day...

[The City - South Island]

"Good evening folks, this is your Metropolis News at Five! Our Top Story: A Year of Peace! It's been almost a whole year since the last reported sighting of Doctor Ivo Robotnik, more commonly known as Doctor Eggman. After a massive battle against World Renowned Hero Sonic the Hedgehog over Holoska, his fleet and his empire were left in ruins, with no trace of the doctor himself. Many believe he may have perished, though no body was ever recovered."

"In an interview with G.U.N. Commander Abraham Tower, he believed the doctor to still be at large, but assured the public that the organization's best agents were on the case. Though since that announcement, the world seems to be rejoicing, and celebrations are already planned for the one year anniversary coming next week. Music World Idol Mina Mongoose has announced an open Music Festival to be held in Metropolis for the entire week, with many major music legends to be in attendance. Of course, we'll be bringing you live coverage as the event gets underway. This is Bill Barker, signing off. Now, onto the weather with-"

The TV broadcasting the report would continue as a familiar two tailed fox was hard at work over his workbench, wiping some sweat from his brow as he looked over his finished product. "Yo, Tails! You here?" A familiar voice would call out from above, the canid smiling as he turned to his best friend. "Hey, Sonic! Long time no see! Glad you could make it!" He'd greet his friend, the two exchanging a fist bump.

"I've always got time for my best bud. But... what is this place, anyways?" The hedgehog asked, looking around the unfamiliar surroundings. "Well, it used to be one of my old workshops... but I've been working on turning it into a little command center. I call it, The Hub!" He'd reveal, causing his friend to tilt his head.

"Command Center? What for, buddy?" He'd ask, Tails sighing. "You and I both know Eggman's still out there. And with it being this long since he vanished... it's kinda scary. He's gotta be planning something big, and I want to be ready. We need to be ready... don't you think?"

The hedgehog smirks. "You're overthinking it, pal... who knows, maybe the big guy finally decided to throw in the towel-" His gaze met his friends unammused stare, rubbing the back of his head. "Okay... okay... I can't say it's not been on my mind... but I'm keeping a sharp eye out too. I'll be ready whenever he decides to show his mustached face again. You know that."

The fox's expression finally turns more jovial. "Right, but to be sure..." He'd turn to his workbench and grab the invention he was working on, handing it to his friend. "Here, I just finished it. It's a tactical visor I've been working on. It'll show you your vitals, location, multi-channel communication, even has a little AI I've been working on!"

Looking it over for a moment, the blue blur smirks as he tries it on, finding it to be a perfect fit as the device comes online. "Not too shabby, bud. This'll come in handy for sure! Come on, let's go test it out!" He'd wave his friend along, Tails smiling. "I'll be right behind ya!"

The streaks of blue and yellow would dart through The City, heading for the lush Green Hills in the distance.

South Island, the place that many of Sonic's friends now called home. It had changed a lot since Eggman vanished, everything was just a lot nicer in general. Pollution was down, crime rates had plummeted, it was a place you could feel safe. All due in no small part to the efforts of Sonic and his friends.

But...

There is always a darker side of the world...

Hey, sorry for the lack of... anything lately. Life kinda started kicking my butt and I haven't had a chance to finish things up, but tomorrow I'm gonna try and get the starting post out so you all can have at it. It'll lay most of the ground work and set up the basics, and as things go on it'll slowly start kicking into the main plot. So yeah... sorry it took this long.

Gadget is a Red furred Wolf with Peach Skin and Orange Eyes. He will almost always be wearing a pair of thick black rimmed glasses, which are outfitted with a built in Heads Up Display Module. When there is little going on, he'll often be wearing some simple white gloves and a pair of red sneakers. His casual wear, so to speak. However, when he feels he's needed for help in the field, he will don a military green colored headset with matching colored boots and gloves, as well as a tan three-pouched utility belt held in place by a shoulder strap.

[ - History - ]
Gadget was born and raised in the bustling city of Metropolis during Robotnik's reign over the world. It seemed like every day he and other kids like him lived in fear of what the next day would bring, at least until news began to spread that a small group that called themselves the Freedom Fighters had done the impossible and defeated the tyrannical doctor.

Almost overnight, things began to change for the better. The United Federation began expanding and taking over the old Robotnik Empire territory, providing peace and security that they'd hoped for for so long. But although their new leaders did much for them, no one could forget the heroic few who dared to oppose and defeat their previous ruler.

So many kids his age wished they could be like Sonic the Hedgehog, the one to finally defeat Robotnik. But Gadget... he wanted to be more like Tails, the hedgehog's best friend and child genius.

For years following he began to tinker with inventions and designs that never really broke any new ground, aside from maybe a wrist mounted grappling hook he'd created. That was until one day he stumbled across a little creature trapped in the remains of a newer Eggman Robot, or Badnik as they were called now. It was a Wisp, a creature from another planet that Sonic had apparently saved from Robotnik, now calling himself Dr. Eggman.

He helped the Red Wisp, which he nicknamed Pyro, and the two became good friends over time. His relationship with the alien Wisp sparked an idea in him. He knew Eggman used the Wisps to power his bots, and that their energy allowed people like Sonic to use special powers that they couldn't otherwise. So he broke out the design book and went to work designing a device that could safely use a Wisp's power for good without hurting the creature.

Pyro was not keen on the project at first, but in time he began to come around to the idea. As word of his idea spread, who would reach out but none other than his idol, Tails. He was impressed by his design, and offered his help. How could he say know? And with the fox's help, the Wispon would be ready in no time...

[ - Personality - ]
Gadget is a good natured kid who loves to tinker with new inventions. At first he simply created inventions because he could, but as he got older he began to make new creations that would really help those around him. It's in this part that he really looks up to his Idol, Tails the Fox. His gadgets and gizmos have helped save the world on numerous occasions, and while he didn't expect for his gear to do anything near that level, he still wanted to make a difference in the world.

Having grown up in a city controlled by the Eggman Empire for a majority of his life, he was able to witness his atrocities first hand. Many times he wished he could fight back, but was terrified what would happen to him or his friends and family if he did. Because of this, he can be somewhat timid in a fight if he's alone. However, after the fall of the empire he began to grow a bit more of a backbone, enough that he would stand up for himself and his friends if it came to it.

When it does come to his friends and allies, he treasures all of the connections with them. To an extent, he would do anything for them, put his own life on the line in some cases. He might not be the strongest, or the smartest, but every little bit helps, right?

[ - Equipment - ]
Gadget has designed most of his own equipment that he uses. This includes his glasses and radio headset, which pull multiple duties. His Glasses have a built in Heads Up Display and Radio Transmitter. It also serves as a simple translator to communicate with Wisps like Pyro.

He also has a wrist mounted grappling hook, useful for navigating treacherous terrain and getting out of sticky situations. It also tends to be quite useful in combat, allowing him to close the distance very quickly and even become a sort of wrecking ball if he has enough momentum.

His most impressive creation, however, would have to be the Burst Wispon Prototype. Designed by himself and Tails, it utilizes a Wisp's unique Hyper-Go-On Energy to power itself and uses that energy to serve as a self defense combat weapon. The Burst Wispon, powered by a Fire-Element Red Wisp, can shoot a stream of flames and, as Gadget recently discovered, a single fire explosive projectile. It does have a limit to how long it can be active before entering a cooldown state, as to prevent harm from coming to the Wisp powering it.

[ - Powers, Abilities, and Skills - ]
[Wire Attack]
Using his wrist mounted grappling hook, he fires it at an enemy opponent and quickly retracts, using the intense forward momentum to deliver a devastating blow that can easily break through most standard badniks. With practice, it can be used in quick succession, though leaves him vulnerable while in the air and lining up his shot.

Alternatively, Gadget is able to fire his grapple at a solid surface, using his forward momentum to act as a living wrecking ball to impact an opponent. This often proves less effective than the above, as it uses less momentum and would deal less damage and can be rather circumstantial.

The Grapple itself can be useful for more than a direct attack, able to entangle larger opponents to make them easier targets for heavier fighters and weaponry to deal with.

[Burst Wispon]
Using the Burst Wispon with his partner Pyro, he is able to effectively use the device to take down hoards of badniks with haste. With the primary fire, he is able to unleash a stream of fire from the Wispon that can be held for around thirty seconds. Using the secondary fire, he can fire an explosive projectile at mid range once every six seconds for up to five shots. This shot, if fired correctly, can also propel him a short distance into the air for a slight boost.

After constant use for thirty seconds the Wispon enters a cooldown mode to allow the Wisp inside to recover, as any further sustained use puts the Wisp at risk of harm or death. If not in use, the cooldown begins automatically, with a meter synced with his HUD to keep him alerted to the current status of the weapon. The Wispon must have a Wisp inside of it for it to function.

Gadget is based off the most notable design of the 'Rookie' from Sonic: Forces, albeit with a much more heavily altered background. Rather than being a brand new recruit by the time of the game's events, he has been working for quite some time with at least Tails.

He has no real powers or abilities outside of his equipment, lacking natural super speed or strength. He has been helped by his Wisp friend directly in the past, though he is by no means proficient with that skill whatsoever.

Dash is a feline with yellow fur covered with black dots with dark tan skin. His usual attire is very minimal, with a pair of yellow, white, and black sneakers and gloves, a white bandana around his neck, as well as a pair of gray and yellow goggles whenever he's traveling through harsh environments or at high speeds.

[ - History - ]
Dash was born and raised in a small village in Mazuri. His home was very isolated, and as such was relatively untouched by the Robotnik Empire during the war. He spent most of his time honing his skill in speed, though longed for the excitement and adventure he so often heard about by people travelling through. When the war finally ended, he decided to take the opportunity to explore what laid beyond his small home.

He began travelling the world, amazed by how different so much of it was compared to his tiny village back home. He never stuck around a place for too long, picking up an odd job here and there to get by as he continued his travels, though sometimes his attitude and overconfidence made the decision to leave a lot easier, often finding himself in a little bit of trouble from time to time.

Eventually his journey brought him to U.Z.A., where he found himself fairly strapped for money by the time of his arrival. With what he had left, he found his way to South Island where he has been staying for the past few weeks, having heard of the incredible speed of famed hero Sonic the Hedgehog and wishing to see it, and potentially race him, in person.

[ - Personality - ]
Arrogant and a bit brash, he's incredibly proud of his speed and will often take on a challenge to prove it. This has gotten him in a fair bit of trouble in his time, though somehow he almost always manages to get out unscathed.

That being said, he is incredibly competitive. He's not a sore loser, and he's not a winner who will go and rub it in everyone's faces. He just tends to believe a bit too strongly in his own ability, and either he comes out on top as he expects, or he gets knocked down a peg or two.

Dash has the ability to sprint at extremely high speeds. He is only able to maintain this for a short duration, and during so he has trouble turning and maneuvering. He also requires a short distance to stop, which has ended badly for him on a number of occasions.

Lily is a light yellow furred mobian rabbit with sandy tan skin and light green eyes. Her outfit consists of a light green sleeveless shirt with white rims, blue miniskirt, light green shorts underneath, and a pair of blue flip flop sandals with light green straps. She has a small tuft of hair between her ears, but the rest is tucked in a single braid tied with a blue bow.

Lily was raised in a quiet part of Northern U.Z.A. where she lived a fairly normal life. There weren't too many other kids her age around, so she mostly grew up alone with her parents. Due to their rather isolated home, they were thankfully spared the wrath of the Robotnik War, though the thought of something of that scale happening again still lingers in her mind as a fear.

After the war, her family decided to move to South Island City, where they hoped to have a better life for Lily. It was jarring for the young rabbit, to say the least. She made an attempt to adjust, but she could never quite fit in with anyone. She was rather shy and withdrawn in public, though she wanted a friend.

Then she met what could be best described as her exact opposite. An energetic and cheery feline who seemed to get along with everyone. While most would simply give up, for some reason she didn't. She slowly broke through the nervous exterior and became her first real friend, and these days they're pretty much joined at the hip.

When not in school, you can usually find the duo hanging out around town as the rabbit continues slowly opening up to the world around her and finding her place.

To most, she is very nervous and shy. She'll easily be the first one to back away from any kind of serious situation. She has trouble opening up to people, though it isn't from lack of trying.

If you can get past the exterior though, you'll find a very sweet and kind girl who simply has trouble fitting in and making friends. But the ones that she does make will not regret it. They are all important and special to her, and she wouldn't leave them if it meant the world would crumble around them.

Lily has incredible skills and prowess in agility, especially when it comes to leaping and jumping. She can outclass almost everyone in town, though you surely won't see her bragging about it. Despite many attempts made by her closest friend to join the athletics club, she's simply not confident enough in herself to put herself in such a position.

Her best friend is a light purple cat named Lilac. She has been the only one she'd truly call a friend so far, and has been the only one to really put effort into forming such a friendship.

She secretly idolizes the famous Freedom Fighter Bunnie Rabott, and wishes she could be more confident like her. She hopes to meet her hero one day in person.

Lilac has lived all her life in the small City on South Island. Because of this, she's relatively used to the near constant battling that goes on between the nefarious Doctor Eggman and heroic Sonic the Hedgehog in the nearby Green Hill Zone. Even with everything seeming to burn around them so much, it was a simple life for her.

She was quick to become good friends with most of the other kids in town, to the point where she knew just about everyone by name. Not long after, things began to quiet down drastically with the fall of the Robotnik Empire. For the first time that she could remember, they were free to explore the open hills without worry of being attacked by the doctor's badniks.

It was around this time that she began to notice a new face around, a rabbit around her age who always seemed to shy away from everyone. Well, that just wouldn't do. It took quite some time, and a lot of patience, but she eventually succeeded in making her new friend and what a friend she had made. After really getting to know one another, the two were practically inseparable.

These days, you can generally find her hanging out with her now best friend, helping her open up and try to make friends as easily as she does. Or they could just be relaxing in the nearby hills.

[ - Personality - ]
Lilac is the kid that everyone knows and everyone is friends with. Outgoing, super social, and all around a happy and energetic personality. She also has a lot of determination, and a drive to help people if she can. She's not one to start fights, but she's not one to back down either.

She is smart though, and knows when to walk away and when to take a jab. She can think on her feet at a moments notice, likely picked up from the days of dodging badniks.

Though not as exemplary as her close friend and certainly nothing like the levels reached by the Freedom Fighters, she is quite agile and adept at climbing and parkour. You won't likely catch her jumping any large canyons or leaping across high rooftops, but she has talent.

Wouldn't say it's inherently flawed, just definitely a lot more... unorthodox than I'm used to. It's an interesting concept, but I had to dig into some old notes I had revolving around Professor Gerald and the Space Colony ARK that were worked out for the RP.

Myself and a friend of mine worked quite a bit on what could work the best. The concept we came up with was this:

Taking into account when SA2 was released, and placing the events on the ARK around fifty years prior, the time period would line up fairly close to the Cold War. The United Federation likely brought Gerald Robotnik in to create a super weapon, that eventually being the Eclipse Cannon, and in return they promised to fund his research for a cure for his granddaughter's condition.

Biolizard was the first prototype, but ultimately failed to deliver the results he was looking for and required extensive life support to function on its own. It was after this that he encountered the Black Arms, and their leader Black Doom, who offered his aid and DNA in exchange for the professor's assistance in conquering Mobius. He agreed, though planned to betray him and alert the U.F. after his experiments bore fruit.

Then came Shadow, his ultimate success. He was on the brink of achieving his goal. Though the U.F. had other ideas, learning about the 'true' nature of his research and growing concerned that he was plotting to use these 'Ultimate Lifeforms' for his own gain. So they sent in G.U.N. Forces to scrub the facility, killing all associated with his projects. Gerald and Shadow escaped, during which time the professor overwrote Shadow's memories in a bid for revenge against the U.F. before both were captured. Gerald was later executed for treason, and Shadow was sealed away for further study.

So with that in mind... there is a little wiggle room for your concept to work. It could definitely be safe to assume Gerald would first test the DNA before proceeding into a full blown experiment with it.

I do like the idea of a machine developing self sentience, something which I'm even somewhat working with in one of my characters for this. They dwell in the area of neutral antagonist, not inherently evil but also not inherently good. Would be interesting to see any kind of interaction with them and other characters.

So if it can adjust to fit the backstory, I... don't see a reason why it couldn't work. Definitely an out of the box concept that just threw me for a loop XD

Don't see anything wrong that pops out at me right away. She'll definitely be an interesting character to see people interact with. Will be fun to see what she'd decide to do as the war progresses.

@Mistress Dizzy Definitely an interesting character take, though I'm curious now what other characters you had in mind.

Also sorry for lack of replies in general, hectic week but thankfully it's almost over so things should be getting back on track.
