A friend of mine once told me that 'it's only ego if you can't back it up'. Too many people like to confuse confidence for arrogance -- there's a big difference.

Not to get all psychological, but some people are actually just 'wired' to take things people say literally. I'm like that to an extent, but I've learned that people here are usually just shitposting.

Happy Anniversary, Ailyn. Six years ago, you gave me a kindred soul, and brought light into a life which for all intents and purposes had been mostly nothing but darkness.

Valentine's Day's bittersweet when you've endured a long-distance relationship for over five years. Here's to celebrating the strength of a meaningful bond, instead of taking a shallow and easy path.

Bio
"Let us partake in a gathering -- the entertainment is a game of life and death..."
This bio will get reconstructed once I've left the site for good. I'll be collecting my data in the background for now, and sorting some loose ends. I'll be on and off to do it, so don't think I'm back if you see me around. Once I've dealt with everything, I'll log out properly and remove my 'ghost' status, and that'll be the last this site sees of me. This community is in serious need of growing up, and I'm not the least bit surprised that role-plays die here so frequently.
The 'Grim Reaper's Gambit' role-play is likely to reboot elsewhere eventually. The role-play will have some modifications, so contact me if you're curious since the original project won't accurately explain everything. There's no determined date for it to happen yet, since I've got other priorities and I'm not investing a lot of time in it until enough of the people interested have free time to properly commit (lack of dedication on the part of some players practically destroyed the previous version; it's very apparent it would've died even if I hadn't decided to leave). There's a group that're quite interested, but most of them are busy.
Anyway, come back later for an update later -- or don't; it's your life.

Tell me who you are or I possibly won't accept the request, since I assume most requests are bots. Yes, people who I rarely/never spoke to - or who never met me - while I was still here are welcome. No, those who disrespected me (and aren't sorry) while I was here or are trolls/immature in general aren't welcome. Also, keep in mind that not all of these are currently being used actively, so friend request replies might be delayed on some of them.
Playstation Network (PSN): Shoryu_Magami (I'm fairly easy to contact through here, though I'm not really gaming much due to my main project's workload.)
Discord: Shoryu Magami#4323 (Unlike Skype, I primarily text chat on this instead of voice chat. It's currently one of the easiest ways to find me. It causes my PC a lot of problems though.)
Nicely posted on your end too -- another good example of a character being introduced well without spoiling anything. Everyone's doing a good job, and it's creating a really decent introduction for the story in my eyes.
Keep forgetting to mention this, by the way:
I find it ironic that you're playing a female scientist whose name is Olivia, because one of the people who was planning on joining this role-play but pulled out during the interest check phase had actually sent their CS to me over PM and their character was also a female scientist named Olivia.
The choice used for Reinald's post seems fitting here too, considering I'm basically just posting as part of his scene. Either of us can shift the music if it becomes appropriate. I listened to a mix of this piece and the last piece I played while doing this post.
`Shitty way ta start the day, but it was kinda funny...` Leonard thought to himself -- he was amused and annoyed at the same time.
"No point sittin' around waitin' fer shit ta happen..." Leonard said out loud, but not really raising his voice or anything.
After standing up again, he stretched for a moment to relax his muscles a little and let everything loosen. Soon enough, he picked up the duffel bag again, swooping it over his shoulder once more. He looked around and remembered which direction he was going in before the 'three stooges' decided to pay him a visit. There was still plenty of time to enjoy the sites, considering that little brawl had only taken a minute or two. Given his background, he was extremely accustomed to getting into fights with lowlifes -- the main difference was that it was entirely possible the lowlifes would have guns where Leonard was from. He really hated those things, but did not inherently hate people who kept them considering his dad owned guns. He had no misconceptions about every person who owned a firearm being evil or something, but he really would never be able to understand why weapons like that had to exist in the first place. Even if there was a good historical reason that some more educated person could tell him, surely that reason did not outweigh how many lives were meaninglessly stolen by such devices.
Shrugging the internal social commentary going through his head off for now, Leonard turned around and started walking out of the alleyway, taking another bite of his sandwich with a nonchalant expression on his face as he exited and turned corner slowly. He was feeling rather melancholy, like he often did despite being a dreamer of sorts who usually tried to keep his chin up regardless of how shit his life became. He was not naΓ―ve or anything - sort of impossible for that given where he came from - but he nevertheless believed that being excessively pessimistic was unhealthy. Of course, being excessively optimistic was unhealthy too, so he usually tried to find a balance. While he never usually was the type to adhere to the philosophy of 'all things in moderation' - being a bit too passionate and emotional for such a static ideology, honestly - he could get behind it in that sense. His dad had always taught him to be a realist, no matter the circumstances, and - in spite of his seemingly unimposing appearance - Leonard was remarkably strong inside. He just got moody at times, but thankfully he was feeling a bit relaxed right now.
"Hmm...?" Leonard muttered under his breath as a voice addressed him all of a sudden, and in English this time.
There was no mistaking that the fellow who had just addressed him was Asian, though specifically what ethnicity could be anyone's guess as far as Leonard was concerned. He hated making the whole 'Asian people all look alike' stereotype, but physically this guy fit the bill. He looked roughly about the same age as Leonard; however, the possibility that his ethnicity was also making him look a bit younger had not left Leonard's mind, since he was familiar with Asian people looking a bit young sometimes -- he had run into enough people of Asian ethnicities back in New York. He was also a bit taller than Leonard, a fact which was a little bit annoying - since it meant this guy probably thought he was short - but it was not significant enough to bother him. Not that Leonard actually resented people who were tall or something, but he got irritated when people looked down on him because of his appearance. The expression on the fellow's face did not imply anything like that though, at least for now.
As Leonard was listening to the inquiry, it became clear that his little scuffle had been heard. With no idea what exactly had been heard, he figured it was best not to make any assumptions. At the very least, he doubted this guy had heard him talking to himself, so he probably heard all the cursing and possibly someone taking a blow -- not much else. Maybe he had heard Leonard yelling at them near the end, but considering he never addressed him by name that was not all that likely unless the Asian dude just thought it would be awkward to come up to a complete stranger and use their name. Then again, most people did find that awkward -- Leonard was not really fond of formalities though.
It was also possible that he simply did not think that Leonard could have been the owner of that New York accent he had heard -- would not have been the first person to get thrown off by the voice that came out of Mr. Christian-Walker's mouth; nor would he be the last. He was possibly just overthinking everything though, but his dad had sort of drilled it into his head to look for the details if he wanted to know the truth.
It was time to find out, one way or the other.
"Oh yeah, I'm fine..." he said casually after gulping down his recent mouthful -- his surprisingly masculine voice already becoming clear even if he had not said anything yet which forced him to show how thick his accent was. Thankfully, Leonard being in the middle of chewing on a bite of his sandwich gave him thinking time earlier, so his somewhat late response should not have come across as unusual for the Asian. "Those assholes were tryin' mug me, so I taught 'em a little lesson, s'all... Tawk about a rough mornin', huh?" Leonard continued earnestly, deciding to just be completely honest with the guy -- he had nothing to gain from lying. Waiting for a response, he observed the guy closer, noting his fashion sense.
I'm not talking about time skipping immediately, as in right now or something. The comment regarding the flow of time has nothing to do with the interactions between you two currently, so don't worry about that. Honestly, it'll still be a good while before we skip to the estate, since we don't have enough people yet and in a worst case scenario (a.k.a. not enough people joining) I'm actually planning to open the door for people to have multiple characters (not obligatory, of course).
You've answered my main question though -- you and @Snagglepuss89 are free to interact a bit more before I do anything. Just for the record, when I actually start 'GM posting' with you two, it won't have anything to do with moving to the estate. I'm basically planning on introducing one of our NPCs. I told Snaggle about this over PM, but nothing beyond that.
First Edit: I've got no problem with you two collaborating a bit if you'd prefer not to post several times. I'll leave it up to you two, but anytime someone does collaborations I want it to be made clear in their header.
Second Edit: Also, since you mentioned flashbacks -- just be aware that I'm more than happy if you guys use them, since I plan to make liberal use of them down the line. Obviously, avoid spoiling anything about your characters through them that you want to keep hidden.
My next post is in the work now. I'll be starting with tsukune's part to follow up on what's happening with Leonard, so I'd honestly like to know if Aewin and Snaggle want an extra post or so to interact before I start involving you in something. It might seem a bit unnatural if something happens before you two even have a moment to exchange greetings. If you'd like another post, then don't feel obligated to wait for my post.
I've been doing some thinking, and the method through which the flow of time is revealed might need to change a bit. This is mostly because some of our posts are likely going to take different amounts of time than others. I'm not inherently worried about this when we're all together (I'm pretty confident I can gauge how much time passes based on certain actions/words/events/et cetera, such as me thinking probably about twenty minutes passed throughout Leonard's first post), but once we're separated into groups there's the potential issue of time being inconsistent between said groups depending in their actions.
This will be noticeably more problematic once we're at the estate. With this in mind, I might just list the time changing at specific points instead of listing it in every post. Any thoughts from anyone regarding how we can make this more manageable? Time isn't too important until we get to the estate, but we still need to factor in that everything happening prior to us getting our full group is technically happening in one day.
I was likely not going to interact with either group. It would be a little too coincidental for everyone to meet up beforehand. If everyone already knows of each other's existance before even heading in, that might remove a bit of mystery I feel :)
Alright, that makes sense and I've got no objections/disagreements with it so long as you've got no problem with the whole 'we can't move to the next phase until we've got the whole group' thing.
How many of you are thinking you'll take the escort to the estate, when the time comes? Obviously it's less complicated than going there directly, but I don't want to prevent anyone who'd realistically want to go their own way from doing so.
How likely are you to be interacting with one of the groups, and - if so - which group? I'm considering writing a response for @tsukune before the other two, just to give them one more post each to interact a bit, but I'd also like @Aewin and @Snagglepuss89 to give their feelings on that. I've got the basic idea of the post in the work now, but can hold off their part.
Nice post on your end too -- I really like how well these introductions are giving an overarching 'feel' for who these people are without spoiling anything significant at the same time. I was wondering if she'd end up having really cracked dialogue like that due to her whole 'mouse' thing, and I was on the money there.
As for the back and forth between you, Snaggle, and @tsukune -- who says I can't do a 'Season 2' if you all screw up and fail to solve anything? Granted, Leonard will be on your side, but I'll naturally go out of my way not to let IC/OOC knowledge mingle. In all seriousness though, does that mean Bonaparte's butler is automatically on everyone's blacklist (OOC anyway)?
