Ah, so I got the tail end - got it. I live in Australia where my timezone is usually inverted, so just though it was a strange time for a DDOS. It all makes sense now.

Also, a wild Programmin' thread appears. :)
Currently I have a few 'mainstream ones' as I like to call them. Java - if I'm feeling crafty, as well as JSP, but if I want something portable and powerful - Excel and it's ASP. It's readily avaiable and it's front end is easy to implement. Well, at least for certain projects. Given the right implementation, Excel can do wonders.

I could never truly understand Java GUI programming however. Listeners? Window_in, Window_out? Stuff it.

I've dabbled in a few languages here and there. Yes, even Python, C and assembly, but for these, I never really got to the point of appreciating them. PHP and cgi dot the mind here and there, but I remember next to nothing about those.

VRML, if it could be classified as a border line programming language, is one of the funner things I played with. Nothing beats the feeling of having coded a 3D house complete with an active TV, interactive furniture and lighting effects. With lots of borrowed code of course - so the credit goes to the 3D modelers. It was very fun nonetheless, and I would have gone into game design if I was better at maths.

Fun fact: I thought the capitalisation of my name was an allusion to my coding background until I noticed that everyone else was doing it. But I count from zero, if that counts. :P Tempted to put "I count from zero" in my sig so that coders like us can recognise each other. It'll be like a secret handshake~!

So since you're here, how about you? What does your code say?

Each was multiple hours, but the minor one was only about one.

They were longer than an hour, but what you describe is part of why I believe it to be an attack. It seemed like the server was overloaded with requests, so few got through.

Can I add a bit from my own experience? If the downtimes mentioned are the same occurrence as what I saw then this bit might help:

I was able to load the PMs page, but I would get a bad connection error when I would try to view a PM... something like 502 Bad Gateway... I don't recall. I could load the Index page and Users page fine however.

All this mention of coding is starting to fire up my impulsive coding soul. Now I'm restless and want to code some random stuff just for the fun of it. My heart's racing now just thinking about it... An Excel spreadsheet maybe (yey macros)? But I do have other priorities like documentation... Haaalp! I can't think straight anymore! =o

*Pokes head in* OI. Who are we missing here?

I think most of us are still available on this forum in one way or another. Though maybe Riddle is recuperating or dealing with some RL things.

Would a timeskip work in this case? That way we can tweak the storyline to fit our present players whilst still giving MIA players room to move.

For what it's worth, I'm still here. :)

Mark listened to the meeting and although he didn't have anything to say, he still had his own thoughts about what had happened. "Yeah, I'll do that Alexei" replied Mark when the boss said there had to be a proper burial. "My dogs have been trained to keep away from area with certain markers. Our men will undisturbed". Those special markers were also a reason Mark wouldn't wake up to dog pee all over his motorbike.

When the meeting finished, Mark left the room and headed outside. Putting his fingers to his lips, Mark gave a low whistle and padded his lap twice. Muttons, his American Pit Bull Terrier, bounded out from the alleyway where he was previously told to stay. The names of his other dogs were Rump, Tbone and Sirloin, the list went on. But for today, it was Mutton's turn for a fun roadtrip. The others were just allowed to explore everywhere around the junkyard though they each had their preferred areas.

Muttons happily circled Mark twice before giving everyone else around him a little sniff (making sure not to get his nose on their nice garments). He recognised their scents as friendly ones from before and happily wagged his tail. Not only that, the dog knew that if Mark was around other people and he had a neutral or happy tone, then they were friends. If there was no patting of the lap, then they were enemies. Each dog had it's own whistle-tone, as well as an 'all dogs on deck' one. Secret to such an elaborate communication system? Guarding a junkyard meant that you had a lot of time, as dog or human.

"This is Muttons, the youngest of the pack" said Mark to those around him. "And don't worry, he's currently not shedding" he added, more for Chris than anyone.
