Bio

Maybe the real plot was the friends we made along the way. [Last Updated: April 3, 2022]

I'm 26 years old and I have learned not to share too much of my personal life on the internet. I work as an English and writing tutor at a local college.

I love literature and poetry, and I also enjoy writing, and I like to think I'm not half bad at it. I first started writing as a hobby with online roleplay at the start of 2010, and I've slowly drifted away from it in recent years. I enjoy most genres, but if I had to pick a couple of favorites, they would be sci-fi and high fantasy—heavy emphasis on the high fantasy. Some of my favorite characters have come from Elder Scrolls roleplays, since it appeals to the D&D nerd in me.

I have a tendency to get carried away with making my character sheets. I like telling their stories in the sheet sometimes even more than the roleplay itself, which depends on the roleplay itself of course. I want my readers to know how their background influences them as a person, how their personality bleeds into their appearance, and I love watching characters overcome their personal tragedies and finding their true selves as their identities shatter and reform like kintsugi. I've always been a fan of characters overcoming their weaknesses and obstacles and I try to make that show in many of my characters. Therefore, many of the narratives I explore come from a place of vulnerability, but I try to balance the heavy themes with light whimsy.

I also try to research whatever it is I'm writing about so that I'm not just spitting into the wind - unless that's what my character is doing, in which case I try to make sure that's made clear in my writing. It’s kind of hard to define my style, as I’m influenced by all sorts of literary movements and schools of criticism; dark romanticism, modernism, post-modernism, Marxism, feminism, post-structuralism—I have a lot of isms in my pocket. Nathaniel Hawthorne is one of my favorite dark romantic authors, Dickinson is one of my favorite naturalist poets, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Langston Hughes, and Robert Frost—they’ve all in some ways informed my writing, as well as many others. I even tend to look to some of my fellow guild mates for inspiration or analyze what I like about their writing and see what I can do to improve my own through their example.

I was gonna, but then it seemed like too much work.
I can vouch that there are opportunities for your characters to directly influence the plot and everyone has a fair chance of feeling important.

Thumbs uppo, y'all.
Made a shitpost to keep the ball rolling.

Abraham Gene
@Mr Allen J

“Interested in my body, eh?”

Good lord in heaven, Abe might've struck a good one here. Sporty, flirty, and good looking, eh? Didn't even complain when he was throwing dirt on the animal and plant metas. He had a strong feeling that they wold get along swimmingly. At Jasmine's question, Abraham just shrugged.

“I used to. Haven't got much time for it nowadays, you know?” Abe admitted. Though he did put in some work on the streets, that isn't necessarily something he should share with other people. That's a more personal matter; a little bit of taboo business. He continued,“Though I do occasionally dip in some... MMA.”

'Slick, Abraham, slick.'

Eh, that was something of a lie. The sort of fighting he did was nothing short of improvisational and against people who deserved it, but he let stick the image he wanted to stick. The point was sent though: not the type of guy most people would want to tussle with. Ladies like that, right? A tall strong man to keep them safe and protected. At least according to Abe's delusions, they do. Anyways, flirting was fun – chit-chat, that got bored after a little while. He preferred a good talkin' while he was doing someone- I mean, something, and Abe figured that they had somewhere to be. Abe craned his head around the crowd trying to get a feel for where they were supposed to be. Whether it be looking for a flow of traffic toward a certain area, or any official looking person(s) directing others. The weird plant girl had passed them a packet earlier, which probably had a map on it. He raised and looked at Jasmine coyly.

“Let's see if we can't figure ourselves out to where we ought to be. Ladies first?”
I think it would be good and interesting writing, especially since her personality clashes with the nature of her power. It'd allow for creative use of her ability instead of the war of attrition conclusion most people would jump to. Abraham, for instance, has an entire sect of his own power that he simply can't use (or use well) simply because he doesn't have a certain mindset, but he makes do. Someone far more patient with the same power would probably use it to create sandstorms, and if they're less brave than Abe is, morph into sand and mesh with the storm instead of turning into solid stone so that they can't be seen.

Any power can work for any person, it just depends on how you use it.
Where were you planning to go with the character? Cryokinesis is powerful regardless if you can move. It's a suitable drawback, especially considering she's literally cold-blooded.
As someone who's not a GM, I can't say much - just that I think you should Google some images of frostbite before sticking with ice casts.
