My name, as you may have noticed, is Sven. The last part of my username is a historical reference to an important person in Dutch history, William the Silent to be specific, an important leader during the Dutch revolt. If this didn't tell you already, I love history. I eat, breath and sleep history. Anything involving a historically correct setting will most likely draw my interest, whether it is during the first or perhaps the second World War, the colonial age, or even the the ancient times during the Roman Empire.
Now to sum this up to an easy and bite sized piece of information, I will most likely be down for the following scenarios or genres in terms of roleplay:
- Apocalyptic settings, whether that be Zombie or natural disasters. (Both post-apocalyptic and during the apocalypse itself.) - Roleplays during the first or the second World War are things I enjoy immensly and that is something i'm very knowledgeable on as well. - Ancient Rome, love it. If you have anything to do with that or possibly with things like that such as the Greek city states, I will most likely be interested. - Videogames, roleplays based on video games such as the Metro or the Fallout series are things I can also enjoy.
@Dinh AaronMk I did not say that it ended Western interventionism, I only provided you with a factual source as to the lack of modern weapons that impacted significant areas of China. The weaker Warlords had to go as far as to equip their armies mainly with medieval weaponry such as spears and swords because they could simply not get or afford the rifles available.
I'm not interested in a long argument, either provide me with a source that supports your claims on the matter or agree to disagree.
@Rare I'm not upset at him, he's claiming some historical inaccuries and i'm trying to help him see the mistakes he made by providing him with information.
@Dinh AaronMk You are forgetting that even though that they were trying to gain influence in later years, the little Chinese rebellions, as recent as 1901 I might add. Were a big factor of why they should not supply arms towards the Chinese. Furthermore, Russia supported the Mongolians, but only briefly. Tsar Nicholas later called the Mongolian actions, and I quote. ''Mongolian Imperialism'' and refused to sell weapons to them. This lead to the Mongolians having to abandon a very succesfull campaign against the Chinese a year or two later because they lacked weapons and ammunition.
@Lennon79 I will be including the percentage standards into my own character profile and I might apply updates to others parts of it as well.
To be perfectly honest, the fact everyone has phased out any and all traces traditional units irritates me for some reason >.>
People tend to prefer their own ideas I think, I know I do.
@Lennon79 Idea, how about with all the weapons we've listed for our army we are required to post a percentage number as well? So you know how many modern, old and medieval weapons are present. Maybe we can even go as far as giving a percentage for the armies or divisions we control so you can clevery look at wheter someone accidently send and entire army that has nothing but bows and swords agaist a force with rifles.
Also, something else I've been wondering about, what time is it exactly? 1910? Since if so, some of the weapons that are being used a bit anachronistic.
We are in 1910 yes. That's why I mentioned that it wasn't very historically correct for someone to be using weapons that were designed in 1906 or 1908 and didn't enter mass production untill later. (That's why I also adviced single shot rifles, just mainly old 1860/1880 models that all nations would be looking to get rid off.) But yes, 1910. :)
@Lennon79 As for your mention of us being able to control the provinces around us. I had figured you would throw in some ''random'' events to make life difficult.
And my province for example, has large ambitions but its location (All though on the ancient Silk Road) wouldn't be very rich, and would thus have a difficult time to push through industrial reforms. Now i'm not a meta-gamer, but others could use their neighbours to their advantage. (You should take the map with the provinces now, and add a bunch of NPC warlords, just use halfs or parts of provinces to form areas i'd say.) Maybe you can decide our relations with neighbours?
I know, its mostly for early units and inspiration for later units. I do expect that most of the fighting later on will be gun to gun or gun to cavalry. The list was more or less me shitposting some floating ideas XD
I think I will be make a list of more modern units (or at least try) at some other point.
Also, I added British troops to my army roster but in theory they're only actually part of it if a British outpost gets attacked or Hong Kong comes under siege. Can I keep them or should I pull them out and have it be a rule that people can't attack Europena-owned cities?
I think people should be able to attack the European colonies if they wanted too, but if we look at our history of that succeeding anyone attempting it will get decimated. So say random province number 5 attacks the Europeans, they will retaliate and China will look bad globally, i'd imagine that random province number 5 would be eliminated by other clinques as well shortly after that. We all know that great powers had lots of influence.
@Murtox I don't think the Boxers ever rose up. Ci Xi was killed and the Republic was founded soon after. It might become a plot point later on but right now it never happened
The boxer rebellion was between 1899 and 1901 though, and the timeline doesn't quite stop its existence. I'd say atleast, I included it in my biography. Only the mention though, because I was rambeling on. :P Might expand on it though.
