A haze folds over your mind as you are dragged into a mob, screaming and shouting, clamouring for justice. Before long you find yourself chanting the same words: "Lynch her!"

It takes you a moment to realize who "her" is; Ruby Sanchez, the Spanish inkeeper, a woman conveniently absent from the murder scenes over the past two days. Nonetheless, your feelings remain. She is a murderer. A vile creature of the night, bringing chaos and death to the once-peaceful Salem. And she will pay.

The door of the inn is ripped from its hinges as the mob descends. Ruby doesn't fight. The look in her eyes is vacant as she is dragged from behind the bar. Her hands and ankles are bound, and you make your way to the gallows. The noose is tied tight around Ruby's neck. As she is read her last rights, you find a sudden spark of emotion in her vacant eyes, and you curse yourself for not seeing the classic signs of shock. You realize that something is terribly wrong. You cry out, but your voice is lost in the angry din of the crowd.

Snap.

Ruby's corpse hangs, swaying heavily on the rope. A single spasm marks her death. At least it was quick.

(Ruby Sanchez, the villager, has been lynched!)
Alright, deadline is here. Time to make your decision. Choose wisely.

Takeo felt Zan's heavy fist slug into his cheek, knocking him down, but could not will himself to lift even a finger as he was dragged back to his feet and berated by the large youth. Takeo was not the tallest boy, and his feet dangled as Zan held him there.

"Are you going to stay down there like the piece of shit you are, or are you going to get up and train so you will actually be useful in the war against the Cruxi!?" Zan tossed the mechanic to the ground once again, finishing his criticism.

Takeo was used to being pushed around by kids with bigger bodies, and kids with bigger egos. He had learned to accept it in his position, and he never held it against them. Zan was no different. Indeed, Zan's attack might have been just what he needed. Some of his words stuck.

He's right. I can't break down when we lose a fighter. There is still so much to protect. Takeo looked up at the other boy, determination in his eyes, but before he could speak, Korie stepped between them. Then, the lieutenant was there, ending the conflict and helping Takeo to his feet.

"Also, aren't you supposed to be like a 'Paladin' of sorts?" Ritsu asked when the boy was standing again. "Falling down so easily isn't like you, Matsuda. Stay standing, and wipe that awful look from your face, would you? You look better with a smile."

Takeo nodded, an automatic response, and gave a small sideways grin. But I still can't forgive you, lieutenant. Or this place. He looked to the other cadets around him. A Paladin. I'll protect all of them, or die trying. No more tears.
@Aphelion I was totally kidding on the dibs thing, it'd probably be a popular rehabilitation option for a lot of invalids.
GM is putting us in a universe where children are given a huge responsibility and power, despite inexperience. Sure, it's not really rational, but I would like to think this is about fun rather than rationality.

Besides, if this is anything like the aforementioned anime, we'll get our chance at dictating things soon enough...just gotta bear through the intro sequence. Change your perspective on everything that is upsetting you as a person to be upsetting to your character, and use it to fuel your story.
@Mike73 Scum wins if they have an equal number to the villagers. I also can't confirm roles, what would be the fun in that? :P General strategy is that the killers would claim a power role in an effort to get the real PR lynched.
omg Zan take it easy xD
"Why are we here?" Takeo asked, struggling to keep his voice steady. "To fight the Cruxi? Then why is it ever okay to fight each other?" He wasn't thinking of a mock battle, but a lethal assault on a fellow human being. "What kind of institution is this? We're supposed to protect each other. I can't..."

Takeo realized he was nearly incomprehensible. He could hardly think of what he was saying before he said it. Thousands of independent thoughts slammed into one another within his mind.

"What...what will they do with Ian? Don't tell me you don't know!" Takeo suddenly barked angrily at Korie, this time unsuccessful in restraining himself. "You smell like this place. You're one of them. I didn't...I didn't sign up for..."

Suddenly he collapsed, slumping against the wall. Can't say that. Don't know who will hear. I don't know what to do...He was suddenly aware of hot tears running down his cheeks. I can't save anyone...
@Raijinslayer Some serious character development here tho man.
I'm interested. So this is basically a modern world with teleportation and fantasy races, right? Is there any other sort of "magic"?

EDIT: I'm an asshat who doesn't read. I'm up to date with the system now.

Btw, I'm gonna play someone who has lived their entire life with a horrible crippling disease and is actually living for the first time within the machine, so...DIBS!

Btw btw, do our characters look the same in the machine as they do in the real world?
