PersonalityDr. Thillberg is best described as a timid, cold and quiet person to those who only knows him professionally. Often avoiding the company of strangers unless invited to. He is noted as being conservative when speaking to those he does not know. Only speaking when spoken to and only adding his opinion when asked to. However those close to him knows how loquacious he can be. Talking on great lengths about topics he's passionate about. He is also known for his unwavering loyalty for those he considers his closest friends.
He too is often kind to the poor and needy, although not he is not known for it because of his skittish nature towards strangers. As part of the Brotherhood of Order of Sol, he is sworn to charity for those less fortunate. Dr. Thillberg will try to help all those in need as best as he can. As his vows to his brotherhood demands him to.
Biggest FearDrowning
Dr. Thillberg has a severe and crippling fear of drowning. It stems from an accident he had in his youth.
As such this deep seated fear of deep water and swimming. Often taking great pains to avoid large bodies of water as much as possible. Just the thought of the trip at sea is already making him anxious. Once on board, he will feel even more uneasy about it.
Greatest DreamBeing Knighted
Ever since graduating from the University of Lanneford, Dr. Thillberg has always dreamed of having his name added to the plaque to of Knighted alumni. Great men and women who the
empress(?) herself had given the honorific title of knight for their great contribution. The young doctor wishes to someday become a peer of this prestigious circle.
BackgroundDr. Thillberg's grandfather was from the distant lands of Salbia. One of the many kingdoms under the Empire of Aurelia. Another age old enemy of Gallinia. The Thillbergs were driven out of their homes by the Reformation wars of the Solarian faith. The Thillbergs had converted to the sect of the one. Forgoing the ancient pantheon of the religion for a single deity. The Reformation wars ended with this sect, along with many others like it, being considered heresy by the church. Their followers driven off to other realms. The Thillbergs would find themselves as farmers in the country side of Langley south of Fordester. Dr. Thillberg's father, Wilhelm Thillberg, would become a shoemaker. He would marry at the age of 30 and father seven children, the youngest of which is Johannes Sebastian Thillberg.
Johannes Thillberg, who would be better known as 'John', never stood out during his early years. The eldest of the Wilhelm's Thillbergs, Joanna Thillberg, was the prodigy of the family. She showed great promise in the field of music. Particularly with a violin. She was taken into the University of the Arts with Baron sir Oliver Writhe as her patron. Joana, Johannes and their mother Lena moved to the city, leaving their father and five siblings to tend to their farm. Tragic news would follow a year after they left. There was a contagious spread of consumption in the country side. With Wilhelm and those five children with him all being infected. They would succumb to the disease. Leaving Lena to take care of her two children alone.
She would remarry a wealthy trader by this time named Charles Montaire. Joana and Johannes refused to change their names to their stepfather's. However all accounts state that their new father treated them fair and kindly. They were however picked on by the children of their father's friends. One specially harrowing event would leave a lasting scar on his psyche. Joana and Johannes were having a picnic by the banks of the river
Sauth(?) when several of their youthful rivals arrived. Johannes was forced to run from the delinquents. At some point he tripped and fell into the fast moving waters of the river. His head bobbed up and down the water line. Each time he rose up he tried to scream for help but he would be dragged back down. At the last minute a couple of fishers would come to save the young boy. Even though he wasn't physically hurt, the experience has left him morbidly afraid of deep water and of drowning.
When Johannes came of age, his stepfather enrolled him in the prestigious Solford University. Thillberg would find himself studying anatomy, medical practice, and obstetrics among others. Particularly he dabbled extensively with natural sciences as extra studies. He finished his educations at the age of 20. He would then serve as a physician at the Laurendale hospital for the next five years. Three years into his practice, he was approached by fellow Solarians. They introduced him to the Brotherhood of the Order of Sol. A fraternal group of fellow Solarians who have bonded together and pledge themselves to helping their fellows in need. He would find a source of peaceful happiness along with his brothers. Something that he sorely needed in the city.
Then he volunteered to join a medical mission back in his ancestral home of Aurelia. A war of succession had occurred and the different realms within the empire fought under different loyalties. Dr. Thillberg was sworn by oath to help those in need and the war would have plenty in need of a surgeon. To add to this, Dr. Thillberg had always been fascinated with tales of adventure. This would be his perfect opportunity to explore a place exotic to him. However he did not get long to enjoy his surroundings. Dr. Thillberg was taken to the Battle of Holts which would be one of the bloodiest fights in the entire war. Dr. Thillberg spent days in a tent tending to the sick and dying. Morbidly listening to the final request of several people in the span of an hour in some cases. Luckily for Dr. Thillberg, the war would only rage on for a few more months after. He went home a different man from his experiences. Swearing off violence because of the horrors he witnessed.
Dr. Thillberg's family noticed how lethargic he had been when he came home. While he was still warm to them, he had lost his friendly approach to strangers. He seemed much more weary of the world now. Preferring to avoid new company and stay by himself whenever he could. Charles Montaire became worried about this recent development. He in turn pulled a few favors from his friends. Charles managed to put his stepson on the Adelaide on her voyage to the new world. Johannes for his part did not turn down the offer. This was a chance of new discovery that could get him the recognition he secretly craved. He eagerly joined the trip. Not aware of what was to come.
