I used to love the holiday season as a kid, but these days I’m terrified that the strange man in red is going to break into my home again and leave another suspicious package under one of my plants.

Alright, that's it! I've had enough of this damn heat. Bring me my matches, it’s time to burn the sun down.

If there are 3600 rats living in my bones and I eat one every second, how long will it take me to eat all the rats? Assume each rat undergoes binary fission exactly once every hour.

Felix had been struggling to understand the paper in his hands for a while now. Earlier he’d gotten curious about something scientific sounding Dr. Grey had mentioned and worked up the courage to ask what it meant, only to have been handed a paper well beyond what he could even begin to understand and promptly ignored. Still, Felix wanted to understand and as far as he was concerned surely Dr. Grey wouldn't have given him the paper if he couldn't have understood it.

Finally, Felix was drawn from his impossible task by the repetitive sound of something metal striking the floor as it moved along the corridor outside his room, followed by his door seemingly melting and disappearing as said thing ran by. Was that the guy who could control metal? Probably, Felix had heard Axel do similar things before and that would explain how the door had disappeared.

At first, Felix was content to leave it at that, not wanting to risk getting himself in trouble and expecting the guards to come running through at any moment like they usually did. When the guards didn't come however Felix felt his curiosity begin to rise, especially when he heard the sound of voices coming from the hallway. Still, leaving his room now was a bad idea, any number of things could go wrong if he stepped outside. What if he got in trouble? Or what if there was someone with a scary power waiting outside? Then again, he really wanted to know what was going on and it probably wouldn't hurt if he just took a peek...

Sticking his head out through the now doorless doorway, Felix could see the Axel and the other occupants of the hallway talking amongst each other, most having already left their rooms. Felix recognised the older kids at least and while he couldn’t say he knew any of them well, he was pretty confident none of them were particularly dangerous, at least not any more than was normal. To the other end of the hallway, Felix could see a crude metal barricade, presumably formed by Axel as he ran past earlier. That was a little frightening, it meant for now he was trapped.

Had Axel trapped them in here on purpose? Probably not, Axel looked pretty tired. Then was it to keep something out? That would explain why the guards hadn’t shown up. Then again, what if the barrier was to keep something else out entirely, like someone with a really scary power that had been chasing Axel? That would also explain why Axel looked tired. Or maybe this was all part of some kind of experiment or training?

Finally, between his curiosity to find out just what was going on, and the somewhat irrational fear that something horrifying would burst through the barricade to terrorise them at any moment, Felix decided to approach the rest of the group where they’d gathered in the hall. "Um... does anyone know what's going on?"
Apologies for the late submission and hoping I'm not too late. It's been a busy past few day's and I was struggling to think up a concept I wanted to play (ended up recycling one from a dead RP).

Ada Taliar

An altercation had occurred between one of their group and a local merchant. Nothing major, the youngest girl, Miki, had simply attempted to purchase some fruit with earth currency and the merchant thinking it a bad prank had gotten annoyed. The situation had already been resolved by Isaiah from the looks of things, though it did raise the question of whether they would even safely eat this world's food. That was a worrying thought, yet another thing to freak out over, though in this case, one to freak out about later once the more pressing issues had come to pass. More worrying, at least as far as Ada was concerned, was the attention the commotion had drawn their way. The group looked a little out of place, to say the least, and that was before they'd drawn attention to themselves. Now that people had noticed them, people were beginning to look at the group, their gazes seeming to itch against Ada’s skin, working to redouble her internal panic. She really didn't want to be here any longer.

Locking eyes with one such passerby, Ada initiated a staredown with them, doing her damned best to unnerve him until only a few moments later when he turned away and left. Still, even if Ada had managed to scare off one stranger, in the short time it took her yo do so, two more had already come to take his place. Evidently, that plan wasn’t going to work right now, so Ada instead turned her attention back to the group's discussion.

There seemed to be a debate over whether the group should first try to find somewhere to stay or instead go and pawn their stuff off for money. Ada felt that she could probably make do in a warehouse for now, as Graham had suggested, she doubted she’d get much sleep whatever the case, but spending time in the slums of a random city in an entirely unfamiliar world struck her as a bad idea. On the other hand, making money seemed like the obvious choice, given they’d almost certainly need some sooner or later, especially if they wanted to find somewhere safer than some random city's slums to sleep, but with little knowledge of this world's money they were at risk of getting ripped off.

Actually, if the idea was to sell stuff they’d brought over from another world, was it really such a good idea to do so straight away? What if they attracted the attention of the fantasy mafia or something. Also if they needed an income maybe it’d be better to see if they could do something like licencing the designs for modern amenities out rather than just selling what they had and waiting for someone to beat them to the punchline. Actually, now that she thought about it what would the impacts of introducing modern technology to a fantasy world be? Surely that kind of thing could totally revolutionise the world. Then again if they weren’t careful with that kind of stuff Ada guessed they would be more likely to end up screwing this world up in the long run and even then that was assuming they didn’t garner the wrong attention and get themselves killed, which seemed even more likely. Well, just selling a few used pens probably wouldn’t result in anything quite that impactful, but even so, Ada didn’t really want to risk doing anything silly without thinking things through first.

Ada absentmindedly chewed on the tip of her thumb, muttering to herself as she did so, her mind spinning as she neurotically went through all the plans and questions she could think of in her head, pulling each and everyone apart for even the most minor of flaws, and somehow ending up with more problems and questions than when she’d started. Maybe if she had all the time in the world Ada could come up with the perfect plan, one without uncertainty or fault, but as usual, she didn’t, certainly not considering the fact that it was food and shelter on the line here. Yet, even so, Ada let her mind spiral further as she tried to find the perfect solution, the uncomfortable sensations she associated with panic rising in response.

“Huh?” It took Ada a moment to realise they’d been approached and snap free of her thoughts. The newcomers were a man and a woman, with red and white hair respectively, they seemed to be asking for directions to a place called 'Altifer's Artificing'. Obviously, Ada had no clue where that was, but maybe this was a golden opportunity, given these two were asking for directions it was possible that they weren’t locals, that’d probably limit what assistance they could provide a little, but more importantly, it might make it easier to extract help from them in the first place. Then again, on second thoughts, the strangers only served to add more unknowns so maybe it wasn’t such a good idea after all. Ada had just finished deciding to avoid the newcomers, when Andromeda stepped in and did the exact opposite, offering them assistance in finding their destination.

Realising that her plan of avoidance would no longer be viable, Ada decided to bite the bullet and commit to trying to get help out of these people. After letting out a nervous giggle, partially to calm her nerves and partially to psych herself up, Ada spoke up. “Yep, we’re from far away, really far away!” Ada began, hoping to reaffirm Andromeda’s alibi for them not knowing anything. “We don’t know the first thing about this place's culture, we don't have work and we certainly don’t have any food, money or shelter, but we’re happy to help!” Ada paused, realising only now that she’d still been doing her usual crazy person act, she doubted that she could speak her mind without it, but still acting like a loon in front of the people with the swords suddenly seemed like a bad idea. Changing her tune now would probably seem even odder though, so Ada opted to simply take a step away and hope her mannerisms wouldn’t offend the newcomers. “Anyway, maybe if we help you, you could return the favour by pointing us in the right direction for acquiring those things? Especially food and shelter, we’ll probably need those soon...”

Ada blinked. The cobbled street before her definitely wasn't there a moment ago, actually, nothing she could see seemed to have been there just moments ago. Rather it seemed she’d in a moment been transported into some kind of fantasy scene. As Ada’s thoughts caught up to her, pulling her from the fog of her stunned daze and her eyes began to scan the fantastical scene before her, she found not answers but a familiar feeling of panic beginning to rise up inside her.

She could see all kinds of people milling about, including a few that clearly weren’t human, yet strangely none of the people seemed bothered by her sudden appearance. Had they not noticed her or were people suddenly appearing a normal occurrence in whatever strange place this was? Or maybe her consciousness had just hijacked someone else’s body. Well, that last one didn’t make sense, her clothing at least was the same as far as Ada could tell, certainly a far cry from the fantasy type clothing she could see on most of the people milling about.

Actually, now that she was looking, Ada noticed that the people in her immediate vicinity were also wearing normal clothes, at least by her standards, and they seemed equally as confused. Kansas? Detroit? Those were American cities, right? How did they get here? Then again, if she was to believe she’d in an instant been transported from earth to someplace that very much was not earth then it wasn’t all that odd to assume other people from all over the earth could have had the same happen all at once. Still, that didn’t really do much to explain their current predicament and Ada’s mind began to spin as she tried to find answers, the already formidable panic quickly building up inside her.

As if in response to her panic, Ada suddenly became aware of a strange creeping feeling in the back of her neck, like she was being watched from above by someone she couldn’t see. Though when she snapped her head around to look she found no one there. Had there been someone there or had she imagined it? Given none of the locals had seemed to pay their appearance any mind, maybe whoever was watching her had something to do with things? Whatever the case there were more important things to focus on right now.

It looked like the others had already introduced themselves, so she should probably do so as well, more importantly, the overdramatic guy that’d introduced himself as Isaiah and claimed to have been the one to transport the lot of them had addressed her along with the rest of the group. While she didn’t really believe the man was truly responsible for transporting them, the sudden realisation that she’d have to interact with unfamiliar people on top of dealing with everything else hit Ada like a truck.

Not really knowing how else to handle it, Ada did the only thing she could think of, adopting the almost cartoonish facade of insanity she’d perfected over years of trying to get people to avoid her at school. With a bug-eyed, too-wide grin to hide behind Ada felt confident enough to respond to Isaiah. “You can call me Ada or anything else for that matter, I don't care. And nope, I’m speaking English so far as I can tell,” Ada replied, making exaggerated gestures as she spoke. “I’m assuming it’s part of your magic, but perhaps we should ask one of the locals about it?”

Virgil’s answers didn’t seem to fully add up to Petra. Then again she was, as far as she could tell, substantially less educated than most or all of the others present and not particularly wanting to make a fool of herself opted to abstain from interjecting so long as nobody else did. Besides, if he had in fact left out something important by this point she suspected he either didn't know the answers or wouldn't share them regardless of how much they pressed for them.

Beyond that, not much of interest happened during the tour, save for receiving their identification, something Petra was mildly annoyed to find took the form of a silver cross, especially since the other groups she encountered had far less obvious iconography and even then, it was a relatively minor issue, all things considered, and by the time Petra had pocketed the icon she’d already pushed the matter from her mind, her interest instead taken up by the rooms they’d be staying at, wandering off to explore it even before Virgil had finished taking his leave. It was certainly a lot nicer than what she’d gotten used to, in some ways even reminding her of the home she’d once had, though obviously different in many other ways.

Satisfied, Petra returned to the rest of the group just as Alistar was making his introductions, as she’d guessed the man was a priest, though that much had been obvious from his appearance. At least he hadn’t spouted anything about fighting in god's name this time, though that didn’t stop Petra from giving him the stink eye as he spoke for good measure. Next, a girl with a sword introduced herself as Fiona before she left herself.

Deciding it best not to leave her own introduction until the very last minute, Petra stepped forwards herself. “I’m Petra. We’ll probably be working together up until we each end up dead or something like that, so let's try to get along.” That last part was probably a little hypocritical given she’d already decided she disliked a couple of her teammates from the get-go, but for now, she just try to avoid her more religious companions.

After finishing her introduction Petra hung around for a bit to listen to those of her teammates before slipping off to unpack her stuff, though dumping an already mostly empty backpack onto one of the bunks was probably a better description of Petra’s idea of unpacking.

Petra realised she should probably look into getting her hands on a proper weapon or even just enough clothes that she wouldn’t be distinguishable from her companions by smell alone most days. On the other hand what she really wanted to do right now was to explore the city some more, though the thought of having to go out again after the heat she’d endured the last time made her reluctant to do so again. Instead, she’d tried exploring the hallways, but she could only last so long before the feeling of being watched so closely by members of the other groups got to her and she returned to her own dorm.

With nothing much to occupy her Petra was quick to grow restless, so when the blond-haired woman that she’d seen writing something earlier got up and left the room Petra’s curiosity was piqued and she was quick to tail her out. Was she going somewhere specific or just exploring? It had certainly gotten a lot cooler since the sun went down so maybe exploring now wouldn’t be a bad idea. Patra heard as Braska was cautioned about leaving, but paid the warning no mind herself, she had a weapon, if a little makeshift, and as long as she was cautious she was pretty confident she could avoid any trouble. Besides, they were meant to be teammates and Petra was pretty sure she’d missed Braska's introduction, so if anything it was in the best interest of the team for her to follow them, satiating her own curiosity was just an added bonus.

“Wait up,” Petra called out as she caught up to Braska, more to get their attention than anything else. “If you're going to take a look around mind if I join you? There isn't much to do back there and I'm not particularly tired.” She paused a moment before adding, “I don’t think I was paying attention when you introduced yourself, could I get your name again?”

Having successfully navigated her way to the castle, or more accurately followed someone else there, Petra positioned herself at the not quite back of the crowd. Some part of her was shocked by the size of the crowd, far larger than any she’d seen before. Then again given this was meant to represent all of humanity maybe the crowd instead seemed too small. Was not just fighting demons but actually descending into the abyss where most people drew the line or after four crusades had everyone else finally caught on to the fact that their chances of survival were less than great? Maybe people had gotten word of how unbearably hot it would be in advance and collectively decided to stay home.

Whatever the reason was Petra was unable to find it before the announcer's voice sounded out, pulling her from her thoughts. He was loud and dramatic, theatrical in a way that some might find obnoxious given the circumstance, but rather than be bothered by it Petra instead let herself enjoy the spectacle. If she was in all likelihood throwing her life away she might as well enjoy her time up until then. Even with that attitude, however, sorting three hundred people into their respective groups and making sure they all made it to the correct places was no quick ordeal and Petra quickly found herself growing bored, only barely managing to pay enough attention to listen for her name out of the many being called and almost not noticing as the generals took their leave, leaving her, the announcer and seven other individuals behind.

Petra was confused. Looking around there were far too few people remaining to form an additional group and she was pretty sure she’d counted the full ten groups leaving. Had they all missed their names being called? The introduction of Virgil did little to alleviate Petra’s confusion, nor did his subsequent explanation of their apparent covert mission into the abyss. Was this meant to be some kind of suicide mission to weed out the bad apples from the recruits? Taking a glance at the others Petra shook her head, some of them looked pretty strange but they all looked capable, certainly when compared to a few of the others that’d been in the crowd, herself included. Besides, assuming Virgil's explanation was to be believed, if the aim was to weed them out then there would have been no reason for them to be given any training at all. But what then was the criteria had they been selected by? Another question that would have to wait to be answered, Virgil had asked them all a question, given them each the choice to join this mission or leave now, and having already made up her mind to participate in this crusade, it was probably smarter to spend her time trying to get a feel for each of her soon to be companions.

For the most part, they seemed better equipped than Petra, some carrying gear valuable looking enough that Petra felt almost worried standing too close to them, lest someone accuse her of trying to steal. Otherwise, they largely seemed to fall pretty much in line with what she’d come to expect from her brief time in Zion, some who appeared much like what Petra was used to, but also a few who clearly hailed from very different cultures and environments. Their responses were equally as varied, though far more informative. Some kept it short, other’s long and grandiose. Some asked questions, much to Petra’s relife. While a couple expressed their devotion to the lord, a fact that irked Petra, though for the time being she contented herself to frowning in both cases. The only real constant between their responses was their acceptance of the mission they'd been given.

Finally, when only she and one other man were left to respond, Petra decided it time to voice her own response. “I also accept. I’ll do whatever it takes to protect those living out there.” Petra pointed towards out towards the exit as she said that last part before sweeping her arm across in a large arc and unable to help herself shot an accusatory glance in the directions of both the priestly looking man and the bird masked woman who'd expressed god as their reasons for being here as she did so but refrained from saying anything further.

I'll get out my CS properly later today if I can. Just need to rework my ideas a bit first because my original concept is uncannily similar to addamas's.
