Carver raised an eyebrow. Another survivor among the townsfolk? That was welcome news, to be certain. The man could hardly be blamed for lashing out at the people who had just burned his home to the ground - doubtless he hadn't known he was infringing on a duel. Siding with him wouldn't please the man who he'd been dueling, but then again they had just been trying to kill each other - it wasn't like their relationship could deteriorate much further.

"Very well, I see that this man was an innocent, who interfered unwittingly." Carver looked at the man he'd been dueling. "He's a frightened, desperate survivor - I will take responsibility for his actions. Let the duel be for his life, then; if I fall, I will not be able to protect him from you, and if you fall, you will not be able to harm him, so... little has really changed."

Carver stepped back and put up his shield with his sword behind it, preparing to strike when the man drew close again. "Shall we get back on with it?"
Well shit, I didn't see Carver joining the swordsman happening, well Arastoph is probably fucked.

I mean, he's not gonna kill him.

It's just gonna be a very stern finger-wagging, which from a Paladin is probably worse.
Carver stepped back and gritted his teeth. His enemy's actions, though annoying, weren't really hurting him at all - the man was unwisely using up valuable energy that he'd need if he hoped to break the knight's defenses.

He was just planning his next move when an explosion ripped through the air. Carver whirled around to face it. Was the duel betrayed? No - neither party had fired. Rather, the shot had come from the trees and was aimed at one of the bandits. The paladin clenched his jaw in fury. Interrupting or breaking an honor duel was an offense of the highest order. For his sake, whoever had fired had better hope he didn't know what was going on.

The bandit was talking to him, offering a temporary truce. "I know him not," Carver said, and nodded. "Let's talk to him, and then get back to killing each other like civilized people."
Carver is forever guilty by association and will never be able to clean his hands of this. He must his renounce his role as a paladin.

Or, alternatively, he's going to try and kill/subdue Arastroph so he can get back to the honor duel.

Beware the fury of a patient man.
Alternatively, my idea is to ruin the whole duel and defeat the swordsman by killing his friends via ambush. Who's up for that? Eh? Eh?

Oh, god, you went and did it. Carver is NEVER getting over this.
Love makes the world go round.

And it has been known to provide a +2 circumstance bonus to certain skill checks.
Carver spun to keep his eyes on the enemy, gritting his teeth as the blade crashed into his back. The blow was of no consequence - he was either dead, and he had failed, or he wasn't, and he would continue fighting.

He couldn't match this man for agility, that much was certain. Better to just wear him down, then. Carver stepped forward, his shield raised over his shoulder, and lunged, attempting to slam the shield ( with his body right behind it) into his opponent.

My boy, a ruse that relies on the target's basic, face-value acceptance of the rules presented to them against a Paladin is what we call 'easy money'.
The bandit wanted to duel? Then there was no question. If one of the enemies could be eliminated without any risk to to the others, Carver would have to risk the possiblity of deception.

"Let me handle this one, friend," he said to Separ and thumped his sword into his shield again. "A noble offer, one generously accepted. Test your steel against mine, and we will see which among us is worthy of victory."

Carver, of course, had little doubt that it would be him.
Ooh, duel offer!

Can't IC post now, but yes, all of that, in my face.
