Andrea McCarthy
{"
So many people are shut up tight inside themselves like boxes, yet they would open up, unfolding quite wonderfully, if only you were interested in them."

In Depth Appearance |
There is hardly a day where you don’t see Andy dressed in her black knee length cardigan… unless it is over 80 degrees fahrenheit, even then the cardigan is wrapped around her waist. Most days she throws her hair into a messy bun, but if she is feeling energetic and fun, she will pull it into a fishtail braid off to one side. Her honey brown eyes are often seen behind plastic, wide-rim purple glasses that are meant just for reading or when she’s working on her computer, but she often forgets to take them off. Tending to keep indoors, her skin is rather fair though it is still considered tan, but that is all thanks to genetics. She keeps her fashion simple… black leggings or jeans, with some sort of colored v-neck t-shirt. Most days she walks out the door with a little mascara and chapstick on and that is it. Growing up in a family with money though, Andy knows how to dress herself up fit for a royal ball, but only if the occasion calls for it.

Personality |
If Andy has let you into her world, she will care for you with her whole heart. If you are important to her, she will do whatever she can to make sure you are happy and taken care of. Andy will be the shoulder you need to cry on if something awful happens. She will bake you brownies if you failed a test. She will wake up at 3 AM to pick you up if you are lost in the city. She will make you feel like the center of the universe because in that moment you are hers. But there are a very select few who get to see this side of Andy. Even close acquaintances and friends she is still unsure about haven’t witness this side of her. For all others, there is a wall that blocks them from seeing the real Andy. The wall was formed the day her mother passed, a deep-seated fear that if anyone else gets close to her, they will die too, hence limiting who she lets into her life. Her world would collapse around her though if anyone else she cared for dies before their time.
The Andy most people know is shy, but witty. She will still speak her mind, but she will not argue if a person disagrees with her. She does not like confrontation and will avoid it like the plague. Her shyness does prevent her from making a lot of friends, but the ones she surrounds herself with are fun and tend to know how to bring out her playful side. That didn’t mean she opened up to them, but she loves to play board games and beer pong just as much as any young 20 year old, but she never gets out of hand. Andy has far too many responsibilities to be wild and let loose every weekend like some people she knew. Andy had to grow up fast, which has resulted in a very mature person for her age.

History |
The year was 1991. Jeff McCarthy was a young, upcoming business mogul who just made his first million. He was running through Wall Street, balancing coffee in one hand and his stacks of papers and briefcase in the other. Clearly a new million, he was young and disorganized but was a secret genius. In his hurry to get to his office, he ran directly in a woman, Linda Smith, spilling all his coffee on her. Their fate was sealed after that and they married a year later. Then on May 17th, 1993 they welcomed a precious young baby girl into the world, Andrea Heather. They doted on her anything and everything, but made sure she grew up with a head on her shoulders and to be kind to everyone. Mr. McCarthy only became more successful, his millions growing, but he came from a less lavish lifestyle, as did Mrs. McCarthy. So together, they knew how to appreciate the smaller things in life and not let their money get to their head. They instilled these values in their daughter.
For 12 years, the three of them lived a fulfilling, happy life, spending evenings together watching movies, Saturday afternoons at Central Park and loving with their whole hearts. Then in June of 2003, there was a surprise and Andy’s little brother was born. Kenneth was not planned, but he fit into their puzzle perfectly. Andy was excited to be an older sister, always helping her mom change his diapers and give him baths. Everything was perfect… until summer of 2005. They were vacationing in their summer home in the Hamptons, spending the day at the beach. They rented jetskis and Andy and her mother were out, whilst Ken and her dad watched from shoes. Andy had a smile beaming across her face as she sped through the waves, catching some air. She heard her mother’s laughter behind her, then suddenly a loud crash. Her mother had hit a large rock hidden beneath the waves and was set flying off into the water, hitting her head on the same rock. By the time Andy turned her jet ski around, her father was diving into the water. As she approached, Andy could see the blue-green water of the ocean turning red, Andy felt her heart stop and she knew in that instant her mother was dead.
After that nothing was ever the same. Her father buried himself deeper in his work, isolating himself from his children. Kenny, who was only 2, was left without a clue, though cried constantly for his mother. Andy felt the wall form around her, everything she cared about before suddenly didn’t matter. All that did was caring for Ken, so at the age of 15, Andy was Ken’s sole caretaker. They had a nanny who helped while Andy was at school, but after 3 PM, the only person Ken wanted around was his sister. The first few years were the hardest, learning how to live a life without their mother. Overtime, they formed their routine, and Andy was able to become somewhat functional in society, but she was never the same again. Because Ken was still too young to care for himself, when Andy graduated from high school, she only went to college part time. She was accepted into NYU for Graphic Design. Her passion for digital art started when she would sit at her computer late at night, her brother in bed and her father locked away in his office. It started out simple, trying to paint a picture in the classic program ‘Paint’ and it only developed from there. Now, 23 years old, Andy had two more semesters left until she could finally graduate. Fall semester was complete and winter break 2016 has begun.

She has never been in a relationship, but it is a deep desire of hers. Also, she hates the word luscious.
