Current 7:46 AM, reporting from the world of pain. But hey, I’m almost home. Almost

Agreed, absolutely could do better. Now, how do you actually make people behave decently and procreate responsibly. What actually can we do but engage them in good faith or avoid? Hate ‘em? Ostracize?

Hell, adults don’t act like adults most of the times. And nobody gives a shit about each other unless you make them. My favorite way to deal with kids — promise to kidnap and eat them. Most hilarious

Nobody judges, I’m just saying it’s counterproductive to expect some things. Children won’t act like adults. You may teach them better by treating them like adults, but no, it’s underdeveloped human.

People misbehave and make you uncomfortable? Go tell them. Stop passive aggressive twitting and socialize idiots at the cost of them lashing back and telling you that it’s you who’s in the wrong

Bio

27 y.o. roleplayer from Eastern Europe.
I am legit high-functioning autist that likes to study human psychology and the darkest manifestation of it for a special interest since the age of nine. Fan of dystopian themes, good conflict and drama, though, at times, I can be naturally sweet and caring both in and out of character.

Favorites and firsts:
- favorite writer — Kurt Vonnegut.
If you’ve read Mother Night and Cat’s Cradle and other books, you’ll get much and more about the way I process reality and perceive happenings and deeds.

- first fantasy book — Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula LeGuin
I was six, and my only fantasy experience was watching my father play Heroes of Might and Magic III, but this. This magic, this way of weaving ideas through symbols in narrative, imprinted on me forever. Actually, I have felt as if I was another Orm-dragon kin, just not given proper name, yet. (Turned out, I really didn’t belong, but not literally, symbolically)

- first world-renowned classic — Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov
Hands down, my actual favorite. A Hero of Our Time by Lermontov and other things by Bulgakov or Gorkiy or Remark didn’t even come close, but this book I re-read after initial read aged 11 twice and always found it different due to intricate detalization. Foreigners drool over Dostoevsky and Tolstoy for the philosophy, but Bulgakov should be praised more for exposing Imperial and Soviet Russia for what it was with vices and contradictions and oppression of gifted in sake of conforming
Also, as an atheist, I didn’t feel itch while reading Bulgakov, and Dost and Tolstoy make me nauseous with their ‘spirituality’. Both men were bastards, don’t like preachers filled with vice and shit, yup

- first native bands on repeat — Машина времени, ДДТ
- first international bands on repeat — Secret Service, ABBA
- favorite bands as a soundtrack to my daily life — Frank Ferdinand, Би-2
Also Depeche Mode, Muse, Nothing but Thieves, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Glass Animals, Gogol Bordello, The Black Angels and Cage the Elephant are often on repeat

- favorite TV series — Breaking Bad
- favorite films — Kin-dza-dza, The Lord of the Rings

Hey-hey and welcome! I am not really comfortable going around approaching and wooing people myself, but maybe we could try roleplaying something dystopian and eldritch, eh?
Hello there, it’s alright to be all doom and gloom if you ask me.
- blue/black cat person here
Bump.
I second @Kuro as a veteran GM.
We had practiced making important player characters into recurring NPCs without killing them off. I also saw in practice passing on the mantle. It is practical for the games that go on for years. I have been a part of one for 5,5 years out of 11 it is going on, and I used to play main villain amongst many others. The way GM tried to write that character off, compared to all the other roles, was hilarious, they simply created characters with same functions on lieutenants roles not to introduce character back on scree so to speak, but used all the groundwork I laid prior to leaving, which is… good! It’s bad that she won’t dare to make cameos with my late main character, not the other way around!
It’s good for the plot and personal stories of other characters to be cohesive even if player on important role leaves. Yes, the plot focus can diverge, but imagine simply deleting several months of development because somebody had a change of heart and stopped playing.

For this exact reason when I make rules for collective play, I set up them as such:
1. You create your original character for this original setting to play it with this exact plot and players setup. Not to play your favorite doll, even if you take all the traits of the characters you have been playing for ages. You give up some of your own personal agenda in exchange for other people creative efforts to entertain you along with themselves
2. You’re welcome to ask for a certain course of action to remove your character from the game in case you leave/disappear when you apply for the role. Any further renegotiations with co-players and GM are based on the goodwill you have.
3. As a GM, I will not let characters of ‘muh OC muh rights’ hog on important roles in the world, nor will I let in some Wristloon Margere archmage with golden hourglass-shaped eyes, nor character of someone’s discontinued wattpad saga into the main cast that has been used under the same name with the same story in Sci-fi and fantasy settings alike for ages. More rights = more obligations. Obligation to be authentic, not cringe-worthy rip-off.

Sounds harsh? Well, see pt 1. Create characters for the world and this exact game, let them belong in the world without your jealousy holding the potential development back, and there will be less drama for everyone.
@WanderingDragon
I think you mix up several issues and present them as one. Let’s break down them both, shall we?

Three things you must ask yourself:
1. What is more important: polyamorous plot or this exact set of characters?
2. Would you return a favor of playing a set of characters that somebody else developed to fulfill their dream plot? And wouldn’t you feel used and exploited like a sextoy in process?
3. Why would you even start playing with somebody else, if you’re fixated on your set of characters? Isn’t it settling for less?
Answer honestly, and contemplate why other people are wary of such a proposal. I know I used to pick up roles written by someone else, and those unanimously left me with ashen taste in mouth, because my partner cared more for her token baes and little for my own ideas.

However.
As a game master or a player leading a good fat plot line, a cast of well-developed supporting characters around my main character, NPCs played for partners here and there and otherwise, for me is a good practice of ages. Of course I mostly play my set of kids/exes/friends and business partners and my partners keep theirs and we exchange roles only after permission. Polyamory is tricky, it doesn’t work for majority of people because people are selfish, and the same applies on player’s personal level. You have to employ people who are more CRPG-minded rather than fanfiction/literature oriented, because I see there a deep rift in cognition and deep bonding of player’s self with their character, borderline self insert. The same unsettling fixation on partner/partner’s character tend to be present, too, so beware.
@Viper Sebastian what a coincidence ;D too bad I never owned any console, can’t even play on one.

@Kuro I was warned of the opposite with the words ‘they’re kinder than we are’ for exact same interests put into it. Maybe I write something unsettling to the people I want to play with, dunno.

Anyway, thank you guys

Is it Triune Goddess’s symbolism on your avatar? I like more moody and grounded fantasy for sure, but humor and wonder and ability to reshuffle lots of things in the deck, so to speak, keep fantasy genre my favorite, too. Hello and welcome
UPD: It seems like I've finally found a tête-à-tête game or two.
Always open for suggestions, though

I enjoy playing sophisticated characters. Not your usual edgy boy parents died long before conception, hometown burned, raised by wolves since five, but, say, somebody able to pull 'I have a very particular set of skills' speeches or '- Walt, what happened? - I WON' one-liners after ages of teasing things with clever detail and George Martin-like writing.
I tend to do people capable of terrible deeds, but my characters are rarely completely without reason and unhinged. Best of them, nice guys and decent wives, tend to be on the verge of breaking, or possess a trauma. Their skeletons may be locked in the closets, dark prophecies and dirty secrets - pushing flowers from deep under soil, royal fuck-ups and crimes one could regret - vanished from memory of common people, but you know what any Chekhov's gun does in the end.
I wanna go on a journey with a character that lives a lie, and make the mask eventually slip.

For partners I just want some interesting characters by interesting players that are not lazy to sit back and do zero legwork and research for plot development. Age matters little to me, I play mature themes that are not porn and somehow count as appropriate for teens. Just don't be a brat and do whatever it is on your mind if you build character first and then do details for character reasons. You never know what actually works unless you see some tired bunch of tropes served right.
What I sure as hell know won't work with me is smut for the smut sake. Not interested. Sex and chemistry are fine as a side dish but plot comes first.

Fandoms (I prefer to say universes or worlds) I am well-versed in AND willing to play (only those that come easily into my mind)
Nirn (The Elder Scrolls Series)
Mostly interested in Imperial characters and Empire-centric plots, but would like to play as Redguard or Khajiit, too.
Valoran (League of Legends, Arcane Series, etc.)
I have a particular OC in mind that can be well tied into some lore parts and factions
Forgotten Realms (well, Dungeons and Dragons, you know)
Not terribly interested, but I am used to roleplay heavily in DnD and this is a go-to world I know a lot, since I also roleplayed as Coran-the-Politician and have a lot of leftovers for current chronology to do detective and cults and shitton of adventure pre-BG3. Can also act as semi-DM for such a plot.
Witcher world (NOT the series-inspired plox)

There could be others. Look, I mostly play OCs, and am really meticulous and even pious about canon at times, but I managed to roleplay and actually pull it with universally positive feedback as:
- Varric Tethras from Dragon Age
- Vertigo-like Lucifer (comic, not series, with David Bowie faceclaimed)
- Sheogorath (GMed completely insane quests while on enegry drinks and antidepressants and it was DELIGHTFUL, DE-LIGHT-FUL!)
- Gregory House (complimenting Cuddy's tits, of course)
- well, Coran, that good-natured hedonistic fella with 20 DEX from the start and left-side-brain that got best of him was mentioned. He also recently died in somewhat canon comics. I do lots of research:3

So, you can see the pattern. I do sharp-tongued, witty guys with dubious morals and, if happy, shit-eating smiles and quips.
Well, those are the most belowed by all, obviously.

As of OC-gestalts I have in mind, there are few I really want to do, maybe in combinations.
1. A doctor. Physician, alchemist, somebody who dabbles more in dirt and blood rather than heals all neat and nice. In addition I'd love a terrible neighborhood or antisanitary, miserable setting. Maybe also story about serial killer or some shady operations.
2. Retir(ed/ing) (trying to!) assassin past their prime. John Wick, Nobody, Leon the Professional - you know the type
3. Arya Stark book canon-like female character. Arya, the Wolf-Child, Arya, the Blood-Child, Arya, the Dark Heart, Arya, who knows better than most, that all men must die (Quinn's Ideas). Or, light version, a character like Sorry/Apsalar from Malazan series, that was possessed but broke free from her grim trade and fate and is healing.
4. Inhuman creature caught in human body or posing as one for safety or out of loneliness in prevalentely human world.
5. Former gangster/religious extremist, also alone in the world and stripped of former ties, willingly or not

I can mix and match.

I terribly enjoy 'punks' and am kind of punk for life, but steampunk is the one I am not interested unless it's something inspired by Frostpunk game. But, say, dieselpunk with speakeasies and mafia? Skypunk? I'm in.

Post-a-day/several per week, 1 to 3 partners, I live in GMT+3, don't like pink tieflings and cookie-cutter magic and social systems. Open to play any type of relationship except slash (fem is fine, father-daughter, family, friends, subordinates are most welcome)
It’s always good to see new generation active in the hobby! Best of luck, maybe we could play something Delta Green-ish in the future :3
@Vampiretwilight thank you!
