It is certainly not 'optimal', but it *is* doable, depending on what you want to do with it. You could go swords or valor bard and play them more like a warrior with some magical ability

@Dog Yeah! Battletech stuff works too! You're looking for stuff that would fall into the range of 'heavy' battlemechs in that case, stuff like the Thunderbolt or Marauder would fit the bill pretty well
@Dog Here's some bois I would consider thicc. Some are a bit on the lighter side

In a sort of 'gamey' sense, Heavies would be the RPG equivalent of the Tank classes, but mechs in this world are lethal enough that even Heavies will still need to be able to dodge some incoming fire
@Dog Took a quick lookover of the new mech you wrote up, and while I do like where you're going for it- I think you might've gone a bit too full hog on the chonk. The whole walking fortress sits more on the 'Super-Heavy MAS' end of the spectrum than it does 'Heavy'.

You can and should definitely go for a thicc boi build, but I think a 40k Titan would be a bit too much on the chonk side.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, there's a lot of people and a lot of concepts going around, and I'm finishing up some assignments for class, so I didn't see it.
@Arkitekt I'm having trouble keeping up with everyone's ideas lol. Was your character a part of the military? Or a private contractor? If she's a contractor she probably wouldn't have a rank
@Jarl Coolgruuf we'll be roughly following the US Navy for Rank structure, MAS pilots will fall into side of junior commissioned officers.

O-4 Lieutenant Commander - Ingram sits here
O-3 1st Lieutenant - longstanding veterans (probably Jorgensen)
O-2 2nd Lieutenant - few-year veterans, particularly talented rookies
O-1 Ensign - Most FNGs, first few years of flying
Morning everybody, before I get into any specific critiques, I saw a couple questions about weapons. Again, these labels are mostly just general guidelines to help keep things in perspective. Though if we were to use a UEE Sentry as a target dummy:

Superheavy: generally rated to deal with warships over MAS, can one-shot a Sentry easily, but may have difficulty targeting/tracking them if they are aware of it.

Heavy: generally the strongest type of weapon rated for MAS combat. Most plasma weapons and heavy autocannons fall into this range. I'd expect a Sentry to be put down in as little as 1, or as many as 4 direct hits. A plasma weapon or missile probably scores a one shot kill, something like a 120mm cannon probably disables with a single shot, but takes 2 or 3 to outright kill. A heavy weapon may also be a sooped up primary weapon- with better recoil/accuracy, increased ammunition capacity, etc.

(in this case, 'disable' means majorly impeding a mech's ability to fight- taking off an arm or leg, destroying power systems, destroying the head/targeting system all count as disables)

Primary: general workhorse or full sized weapons. A missile would probably disable a sentry, though it may not outright destroy it. A standard 30mm cannon would take maybe 5-10 direct hits to the same location to punch through a Sentry's reflex shield and armor. That number will probably fluctuate a lot- in practice a sentry probably wouldn't stand there and take it all, it would try to keep moving as much as possible.

Secondary: this category has the most fluctuations in damage. A combat knife with a plasma edge could conceivably punch through the cockpit and kill the pilot in a single hit- though getting close enough is an entirely different issue. Other weapons like .50 cal point defense weapons will do little more than bounce off the armor. 30mm 'handguns' would do the same amount of damage as the primary variant, but probably is less accurate, less durable and has less ammo capacity

I hope this answers some questions, I'll be taking a bit closer of a look after I finish a bit of work!
My own character sheet has been added to the int check as an example!

@Naril I'd sure hope so! I did base the Ares off of it, just compressed it even smaller than it already was ^^;

I'll be around offering critique as people complete their character sheets! I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.
@Naril Sure! We could do with a Captain, though I will say you probably won't have as much choice as far as ship goes, ^^; The Ares-class carrier is tailor made for this RP
would it be possible for me to gain one more utility system than the two allotted for a medium chasis? Being that she is an Aced Veteran for the 101st?

Depending on what you had in mind, I don't see why not- there may need to be some drawbacks to some areas of the machine for its enhanced abilities- mobility, armor, operational window, etc. If its something relatively small, like countermeasures, we can probably rule it as free.

That being said, I did have a few concerns regarding the pilot.
- Faction is UEE not Coalition
- Raven would probably be a more reliable callsign than Raven-765, which appears to be more like a designation than a quick callout name
- How batshit nuts are we talking about? Most military branches have psych evals, and if she's way too off her rocker, I don't imagine they'd let her fly under their banner- unless they're treating her as 100% expendable. The risk/cost of causing damage to herself or other friendlies would probably outweigh pure combat effectiveness. Having reckless soldiers is one thing, its another thing when they're flying multi-million credit war machines.

I'll be sure to bug you soon, probably about ways to either soup up the venerable FTX-003 Sparrow MkIII M or to make some similar "goes very fast" prototype sort of mech.

The machine I was planning on running with my character is a 'Sparrowhawk', essentially an uparmored Sparrow set into a medium frame, trading mobility for some durability, so I'm sure we can work something out in the opposite direction! A lot of these labels in the suit Builder are just labels, not all suits are built equally.

For example the Sentry and Sentinel, both are medium suits, but the Sentinel's tech data seems to imply it is just better than the original sentry in terms of mobility and armor and that is okay. Its a newer machine, and more expensive to produce, its natural that it'd be better than the Sentry in most aspects. The goal is to keep things flexible enough for players to fulfill their respective power fantasies when it comes to mechs, without going overboard or making them all-powerful
