Bio

I'm happy to be seduced by quality writing.

I am also a person, who does things, in places. Which should suffice for now.

Back on a new account, so don't be surprised to see fresh takes of old characters (I really liked some of my old ideas!).

Yeah, no arguments there, I mean there are people who have written about gods and managed to make it interesting.

I think, what I would argue though is that as you bump up the power of your character, it requires increasingly more discipline to keep yourself in line with the RP, the other players, and even "who" your character is.

In a supremely silly reference (on my part), it really comes down to the ever classic "with great power, comes great responsibility" quote.
Do not make a character that is strong or flawless, make a character that is unique, defective, and rife with lessons to be learned.

Thanks to the wonders of mead, I'd like to make a shout-out to flaws in characters and limits to power.

In an RP like this (fairly free form, chill with rules, big/scary bad guys), one naturally is tempted to write some super powered, magically fueled death machine...but, long experience has shown me that such characters are essentially...not interesting at all.
That's an amusing observation, although I think that one could equally make the argument that nine people is rather poor sample (hence it's not exactly surprising if the group isn't representative of the larger population).

As far as I recall, we're dealing with nine people from nine different countries, which makes our sample even less representative.

Sorry for the sidebar, but I love statistics. :D
@Vigfast you really are a ninja, just slipped a post right between mine and made me have to edit out the mention of it being a double post horrendous monstrosity. Also yeah, there seems to ve a fair amount of wiggle room, which is quite amusing for someone like me who is good at understanding systems and rules...and then exploiting loopholes for profit and intriguing ideas.

Mind you, always with the GM's permission as anything else would be unreasonable.

Haha, yeah, I'm sneaky...fear me!

Bouncing off of this discussion, I think that this RP is more about interesting ideas, creating a compelling story, and character development. To steal from table top gaming, it seems to me to fall more under the "story" category rather than the "powergaming/minmaxing" category of games (or RPs).

Which naturally does mean that one could conceivably create some pretty ridiculous characters, but...Transience is watching. :P
Case in point: the Windwitch.

Wait...what?

Pirating and wenching aren't considered heroic traits anymore?

There's definitely a lot of "wiggle" room so to speak.
Sorry, being a ninja is by second job. ;)

The only thing I think might be worth pointing out is that I don't think villains are potential characters (although that's not to say a hero has to have lived a completely virtuous life before they died and given the current cast, it seems likely that anti-heroes or reluctant heroes are alright).
Hello, because I'm stuck in a lab, I'll answer two of the questions (some of the others I think are best left to Transience).

-------------------------

5.) Where's the story so far? Should I be reading the IC posts to catch up and get informed, or is that entirely optional? I might read it anyways since quality is given importance here, yet I glanced at the IC tab and there was a vast amount per post, which is not at all a bad thing. I don't get intimidated easily, plus I love me some in depth writing with high quality and plenty of content ^_^

The story so far can be found in the IC. :)

The first page of the OOC (or well first post made by Transience), I believe, offers a bit of general lore (I think he/she added the names/domains of a number of gods as people wrote them for example).

4.) Are we limited to human or humanoid races? Beings with only one form (aka no shapeshifters) or is it possible to make races like you would any other lore and then play as a member of said race with your character?

Going back to the early days of the thread:
@rivaanMy original thought was to have the world as a human-centric fantasy, so I would recommend there be a decent reason for whatever animalistic traits they do have. If you were to create a character with fox-like traits it must be obvious they are still human, and I would ask you keep the animalistic traits fairly low-key. For example, I would prefer slit pupils and sharpened teeth as opposed to feline ears and a tail.

Scheming up a pirate turned mercenary, eta...some time tomorrow if weather is favorable?

I laughed far too much than I should have, but yes, Illuminati confirmed!

Oh goodness.. After seeing the illuminati Icon I just realized how crazy similar the post logo I made looks...
