Current You've heard of BBW and BBQ, but have you heard of BMW? Neither have I, they never signal their turn.

I swear, I think Optus had some dickhead accidentally hit the restart button on their systems.

Bio

Thank you for visiting my biography.

I am just a typical Aussie Young Adult juggling social life and work at the same time.

I have not roleplayed in years. I thought maybe I'll re-login once in a while and see how the Guild is going.

I have lost touch with the friends that I've made while I was a resident here. Those of you who were my friends, know that I enjoyed my time roleplaying with you and I hope that it is mutual.

I hope to see you in another life.

I don't know if this is a problem on my end, or if this is even the right place to put this, but I can't talk anywhere else.

The chat isn't working. It apparantly works for other people because whenever I refresh the page a few minutes of convorsation have gone by like nothing happened. But I can't see it happening in progress, I can only see what has transpired when I refresh the page. I can't post either. I'll type something, anything, and click send. The button will say submitting, and I can't click on anything anymore. Is this a me issue? If it is I want to at least know so I'm not sitting here pulling my hair out over it.

Internet issue or some sort of network security issue that you will need to check. It maybe preventing you to send packets to the chat.
Gues y'all shall hibernate again 'till 'Cortana' comes and wakes you up.
Every option we have will have its drawbacks. It's a matter of which one Mahz will take. Any of the suggested options could work but at the expense of another not working. All that matters is that the bots are rid of. Leave security to the man who knows the inner workings of this site.
Okay, Recaptchas should be off now.

Update: Ok, I think we've nuked the forum back into a tolerable state.

I hate that new-user registrations are now disabled, but tomorrow I'll begin the process of fleshing out some new system ideas for preventing this sort of spambot vandalism in the future. The sooner I figure out the next steps, the sooner new people can join the guild again.

For instance, maybe it's worthwhile to build a quick invite system so that existing, trusted members can let their friends join the forum if they know them off-site. Something like that in the meantime. Dunno yet.

I still have some straggler spambots to delete and possibly some bugs that have emerged during today's server hot-fixes.

If there's nothing else that the community can do to help, then we leave it to your capable hands.
I'll disable the recaptcha in a bit since it's unnecessary now.

Also, you know, one thing I'm wary of is our legit Korean roleplayers which you can see on the first page of roleplayerguild.com/forums/39-tabletop...

I think it's awesome that we have some non-English roleplays running. I just hope they don't get hurt by the mass spambot cleanup. :(

I'm sure that the system wouldn't flag them as malicious as they're not speed posting either. If it is an automated system, you could set an exemption? Otherwise if its manual, ask the mods to be a little bit wary.
Whatever autoban you apply, it's guaranteed that at least one user will have it blow up in their face. (It's not like no one in their right mind would create a RP in the first 24 hours after joining an RP site, right?)

EDIT: Oh dear, that capcha... It's a blurry image less than two centimeters across, how on earth am I to tell whether it's a pool or a blue tennis court? (It was, in fact, not a body of water.)

Sacrifice one to kill a hundred? Seems reasonable to me.

@Mahz Do you think you would want to see a model of a dice rolling system?
I was more speaking of reserving the first X posts in your own OoC. Half a dozen posts in about ten seconds is what realistically happens.

I think I understand what you mean.

Then perhaps one way around it is if the account is older than 24 Hours, it is exempted from the ban rule (in the assumption that the bots is not more than a day old).
