Astrid watched the little demonstration with deep interest. The smaller girl, Beth, had electricity flickering between her fingers. She made a mental reminder not to high five her. Meanwhile the giant's, Michelle's, arm turned scaly like a dinosaur. Her immediate thought was how cool would it be to ride on the back of a T-Rex. Or fly on a pterodactyl. Though from the expression on Michelle's face it would probably never happen. Despite just meeting she didn't seem to like Astrid very much. Oh well, it wasn't going to deter her from asking.
When Michelle mentioned a trip to the woods, Astrid was immediately interested. The campus was cool and all, but there was only so much you could do and she got bored very easily. As Michelle, the obvious leader, stepped around her, Astrid followed walking beside Beth. After reaching the Garden her eyes fixed on the thing in front of her. She didn't even know how to describe it, like some cricket hybrid. Michelle immediately went up to it and began talking, as if it could understand. And then it talked back. The fuck. She thought her power was strange, and now here was a giant talking cricket. Smiling inwardly she thought, welcome to the Academy.
Michelle walked back to them, kneeling down to Beth's level. It must have been quite an effort, judging on how Beth was even shorter than Astrid's self. Then she mentioned monsters.
"Monster hunt? That's what the woodland trip is? Excuse me for a moment." Astrid teleported away for a few seconds. When she came back she had a stick in her hand. It was a flimsy stick, with not much weight to it, and almost no use besides making small whooshing sounds as she flicked it.
"Mmm hmm. Yep, I'm taking this with me. Even if this 'monster hunt' is on hold." She realized that, while she didn't know much about this monster, the stick probably wouldn't do much because, well, the Academy's norm was a giant cricket person. And it was a stick. This monster was most likely a giant dragon-monkey hybrid with eleven arms and three noses. No, she mostly brought the tiny piece of wood as a joke, hoping to get a laugh out of someone. In reality if some monster were to attack her she would just teleport out of the way. Maybe into a tree. A really tall tree.
