Devin looked at his Fitbit and then up at the subway station just ahead. Supposedly he had four minutes till the next train left his home station; however, this was never the case. Four minutes could either mean it was already leaving or it was four stops late. Thankfully through what could only be described as divine intervention it arrived 6 minutes later. Riding the blue line five stops and then getting out he walked out of the subway station and crossed the street.

Whenever Devin came into work he had one thing that separated himself from most. He never had a cup of coffee in his hand. Not everyone drank coffee, but everyone was a future coffee drinker according to the vets in the building. Thankfully Devin didn't need or want it. Living above a Starbucks made that choice easy. Still he was in need of some sort of morning jolt. He had been out with a friend of his who was celebrating getting assigned a big case at his law firm.

Reaching the special case floor and walking into the squads bullpen he made a B line to the break room and found the hot chocolate packages he stashed in the break room. Grabbing some hot water and throwing it all in a cup it was only a few minutes until he started to feel alive. The bullpen wasn't too busy this morning as the holiday weekend meant some of the crew was out. He had taken his time off before the holiday so he was avoiding the paperwork he knew was on his desk.

"OOooooo Please let there be a call today..." He bemoaned to no one in particular. A few glanced at him with a slightly awkward look. "I called into a physicist hotline to see if you all ever find your sense of humor." He said dryly and the looks stopped. More than a few rolled their eyes rather then laughed. "Seriously whoever invented alcohol must have had the most love hate relationship with people." Sitting at his desk he looked at the paperwork and muttered to himself "Anyone please just call."

The streets of NYC have plenty of cops watching them. The task force that oversees hot button cases is the Special Cases Unit. One partnership that has seen success is one of Harper Johnson and Devin Coal. Now having worked together for two years this role play is their story.

Biography: Born on April 2nd Devin was a wonderful addition to an already busy household. While he was an only child his family had very firm roots in the muggle world with his mother being a school principal and his father working as a professor of Zoological Medicine at the local university. He fell in love with animals of all kinds through his father. When his letter to Hogwarts came it was no small matter. Learning that an entirely new educational system was in store for Devin came as a bigger shock to his parents than the simple fact that he was a wizard. Earning a very rare and short tour of the school Devin’s mother finally accepted that her son was not going to muggle school. Instead he would be attending Hogwarts. As well as a muggle summer school she selected for his first three years.

The social and easy-going attitude did Devin well at Hogwarts. With plenty of other ‘new to the magic world’ students and even more students wanting to make friends he quickly found himself several social groups to pass the time in the halls between class. Around his fourth year Devin began to invest more time and energy into his Care of Magical Creatures course. With the help of his friends’ network and several recommendations from teachers at school he started taking summer internships with different members of the magical creatures’ field. These opportunities helped Devin decide to commit to the field and after graduating his 7th year with an already impressive resume he began to look for a job.

With school behind him Devin was able to find work quickly in the magical world. He spent his time working with several different ministries drafting and providing subject matter expertise for a new agreement to better protect and assist with large sized magical creatures that migrate over large distances. The role meant traveling a lot which he enjoyed immensely. His travels allowed him to continue his own research and has given birth to a new hobby of his – Muggle Bird Watching. When he got the letter from the new Hogwarts Headmaster inviting him to take the position of professor of Care for Magical Creatures his initial thought was to politely decline; however, curiosity got the better of him and he later accepted when he heard there was a stall in some of the programs the agreement had promised.

Favorite Hogwarts Memory: In his 3rd year Devin was given detention for skipping class with some friends. Their punishment was assisting the groundskeeper and Herbology professor with some basic gardening and gathering in the Forbidden Forest. During their visit to the Forbidden Forest the group happened upon a meadow where a small group of Unicorns were grazing.

Devin was unbearable for nearly a month after this as he talked about it nonstop. His obsession was part fascination over the beauty of the creatures and some parts the fact that his wands core was a unicorn hair. Needless to say detention had to get more creative due to the fact that for a week after Devin was doing nearly all he could to get the same punishment.

Feel free to focus on what is important for your character and the development you are hoping to get out of them with the story. That said a vast majority of this story will call back to their time at Hogwarts so having some depth to it so while I am not expecting anyone to have cured all the worlds problems in their time at the school they likely had some important things happen to them. No need to be super specific is the bottom line but do have an idea of what their life was like before and at school!

Welcome To The Family: An anime inspired modern fantasy

I am very interested. I am envisioning a blind character with a seeing eye dog. One aspect of his magical ability would be to see through his dogs eyes (So he is blind color blind!)

I am leaning towards him being a sort of sideline/benched member of The Akechi Family. Not really the black sheep or anything so sever, but he is never the one to hear news first hand.

Plenty of thoughts in my mind, but I will wait till more information drops before I fully commit to drafting up a character sheet. Excited to see where you take this in the long run @Lunarlord34

Appearance

Standing at 5’11” and weighing in at 173 pounds. Devin has a slightly average build with a body that is clearly trained. He has a few scares on his chest and back from an unwise training session with Electra; however, most were earned due to his own stubbornness of not slowing down or listening.

One thing that is often noted when people describe Devin is that he is VERY put together. Were you to not know him you would think he was OCD at times? His outfits are therefore a product of needing to be very organized (a staple for many people who are blind). He is also a fan of several stores specifically because he likes the people that work there, and he can rely on them to present him with classic and traditional styles from the manikins.

Secret Origin

Devin was born an orphan. His father was never in the picture and his mother passed shortly after giving birth. No immediate family was discovered so he became the property of the state. His mother had given him a first and last name; however, a nurse gave him his middle name. Due to his young age it he was quickly adopted by a loving family in.

At 5 years old his family was killed in a drunk driving accident. The child car seat saved him; however, the accident took Devin's sight. Due to his age and recent disability adoption did not come quickly and he found his way to Saint Agnes Orphanage. By the time he was turned 11 he had started to find himself angry at everything. Father Paul decided to introduce him to one of the more famous benefactors of the orphanage – Matthew Murdock.

The two of course bonded quickly. Matt was impressed at the young man’s strength and began to visit regularly. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to Matt his doting to Devin did not go unnoticed. Less than a year after Devin was approached by a man who called himself Stick and his life changed forever. In that meeting Stick only said two things. "You know who Daredevil is?" And when Devin said no Stick told him. "Murdock".

Devin's interest in Daredevil went from mild interest to near obsession. He confronted his mentor who denied it outright. Still Devin didn't stop. He began to study everything about Matt and Daredevil. Asking questions of the faculty some of whom remained insistently silent. Through the ones that talked he learned about the chemical accident that took Matt’s sight. Devin continued to seek out the old man and when he found him, demanded to know everything.

Instead of giving him answers Stick had another plan. Springing up and standing over Devin Stick dumped a jug of the very chemical that blinded Matt on Devin's face. The pain and burning of the chemical were like hellfire. He was visited several times by Matt while he was healing from the chemical burns.

After hearing Devin comment on a Doctors heartbeat, he realized the gifts the chemicals gave the hero had also been received by Devin. When Devin asked Matt what would happen next it was Daredevil that answered him. "Training"

From that day forward Devin's life was focused on training his new abilities and body. He eventually reunited with Stick as well, but hid this from Matt. Both gave him direction and guidance with two very different methods. Stick oversaw trial by fire and pain while Daredevil delivered practice and guidance.

These two different methods mirrored their expectations as well. Stick was insistent that Devin join The Chaste and their war against The Hand while Daredevil expected Devin to only use these abilities to better the world around him. Both agreed; however, that becoming a hero was not acceptable. Finally, Devin could be a normal teenager and rebel. His first act was enrolling in Mobius Academy.

[*]Devin has encountered small violent crimes and thwarted them he has yet to encounter a plan beyond robbing a bank. And even then he never openly engaged outside of slowing them down while being a civilian and calling the police with a phone he felt on a desk.
[*]At this point Devin is content with continuing to use a white cane to get around; however, Sister Maggie has been pushing him to look into and consider getting a seeing eye dog to help with companionship and his sometimes irrational focus.
[*]After ageing out of the orphanage Devin had been heavily pushed towards university by many of his parental figures including Matthew. The first person to actually point him in the direction of the Academy was a fellow student at school who was also applying.
[*]His favorite sport is Baseball which he believes is the best sport to listen to on the radio. This is of course his preferred method of consuming sports media and would almost never miss listening to a Mets Game.
[*]Simliar to his mentor David has a somewhat complicated relationship with his faith. He will bring it up often; however, deflects and attacks it when it is spoken to him. Something he got very good at growing up in the church orphanage.
