Thanking the officers for the heal for his Pokemon when they left, Jason returned his attention to the Totodile using him as a shield and waited and produced the ball when she, as it turned out, decided to join him. Spinning it, he brought out all three of his new team and smiled before he realized that the Totodile wasn't just a female, which was already decently hard to come by, but it was an alternate colored version of the Big-Jaw Pokemon. Smiling, he kneels down again and rubs his new team member's head as he hums thoughtfully. "Need a name for you, little sister. Hmmmmm..." Murus and Slayer both seemed to be thoughtful as well, though it didn't escape the young man's notice that the Golett was looking around as they stood there, likely watching for the poacher.

"Ral ralts." Jason glanced at his partner and nodded in agreement, but stayed kneeled down.

"You're right, we should head back to camp, but that guy is in no shape to come back and pick another fight with us. You two got a free heal from law enforcement an-Ah ha! How about Sable?" He looked back at the Totodile as he asked the question and after a moment, the little crocodile nodded.

"Totodile." Jason smiled and nodded in return as he stood up and stretched.

"Excellent, I'll go with Sable then. Welcome to the team. Now then, we should all definitely get some rest and set out for the nearby forest tomorrow." His team all nodded and he returned them to their balls before heading back to his camp in the ruins. However, he wasn't above the possibility of something happening on the way there as he kept his head on a swivel.

Head to the fishing shop tomorrow to get a rod, then head out for Starbor Forest. Dad gave me a cave to head into out there, plus maybe something new as well. Should be a full day all the same.

(Heading to sleep at camp, wait for morning.)

Jason, Murus, and Slayer remained on their toes even after the puff of smoke, preferring to wait until the police showed up to return his partners to their Pokeballs. Jason complied with all of the officers requests and questions, even providing his Pokedex ID to confirm he was who he told them and that he was one of the new trainers that Adriane had recruited, relayed to them why he was there and what had transpired and saying all the guy did was make mention of a woman who had hired him to get her a Totodile. Speaking of, the thing was practically attached to his leg as it stayed close to him after a pair of officers had free'd it from the net.

After the questioning was finished, the young man knelt down and patted the Totodile on the head gently, looking over it for injuries. "Easy there buddy, you're safe now. That guy won't risk showing up here again. Though...I'd feel better if you came with me. You'd be safer and have friends. How's that sound?" While negotiating with a Wild Pokemon was less than common, but he wasn't sure Slayer or Murus was up to another fight right now and he was fairly sure this Totodile wasn't in the mood to fight after nearly being abducted.
Jason Connor

Slayer's cry of pain made Jason wince as he avoided the Ember, but he knew there wasn't a lot he could do. Murus tanked the ember that hit him and then moved to continue battling. Jason knew his partners were up for this and he continued giving his battle orders. "Slayer, avoid that Peck and find an opening to hit with Confusion again! Murus, hit that Litleo with Mud Slap one more time and then Defense Curl again!" He needed to end this quickly, but Golett didn't have the power needed to hit Litleo hard enough to finish him in one move, but this was still anyone's win.
Jason Connor

Jason slid to a stop as the man went off about his cheesy one-liner and, in hindsight, it probably wasn't the best choice. But at the same time, it got his point across and instead the young man shifted into Poke-battle gear. "Slayer, Double Team followed by Growl and Confusion on the Rufflet! Don't let that flying pain in the rear hurt Murus anymore. Murus, Defense Curl and then use Mud Slap on the Litleo and then Defense Curl again!" Rufflet was the real challenge here, since neither of the moves that Murus knew would actually help against it, but that Litleo was a poor pairing for the Ghost and Ground type with its Mud Slap attack. If they were fortunate, the guy would just give up on the Totodile after this.
Jason Connor

Shouting in both surprise and excitement at the successful catch of the Golett, Jason retrieved the ball and let Slayer high-five him. "This is a great start! Now then, before we let head to town..." Turning and tossing the ball, the Golett emerged and looked around before focusing on its new trainer and turning its stone head slightly. "Your name will be Murus, which means 'wall' in a language my dad studies. Is that OK with you?" The Golett makes what the young man thinks is a humming noise before it responds.

"Golett." Smiling, Jason pats the large construct's gut and pulls out its Pokeball.

"Great! Welcome to the team, Murus." Returning it and then Slayer to their balls, Jason heads back to camp to make them all food. Releasing the pair, he settled into the habits he'd made on other camping trips while also socializing with his fledgling team. Once the food was done and he'd eaten, Jason grabbed his longsword and practiced the forms he'd used back during his days competing, continuing into katas and other martial arts practice to kill time. Eventually, night did fall and his team got a nice rest from spending the time at camp, so he decided to skip the trip to the Pokecenter and instead headed down towards the river. Big jawed Pokemon...I mean, there was the one mom said she saw in Johto but all the way here?

On the way down to the river, it was quiet, save for the occasional passing vehicle on the main road and the night sky was beautiful to behold. Stopping in his walk, he hummed thoughtfully to himself as he looked at the stars. One could have reasonably expected there to be large amounts of light pollution due the close proximity of Grand Glory City and Route 4, but despite that, every star was out on a brilliant display of beauty and calm. Beginning to get why mom and dad didn't come back to Hoenn as fast as I had thought they would...

Then silence was shattered by a sudden loud splash... and then another. Following the sound first to the river and then upstream a little ways, sure enough, Jason found himself looking at exactly the alligator pokemon that his mom had described to him as a kid, even as the Pokedex he'd pulled out beeped and spoke the description to confirm it.

Pokedex Entry #158-Totodile the Big Jaw Pokemon. Despite the smallness of its body, Totodile's jaws are very powerful. While the Pokémon may think it is just playfully nipping, its bite has enough power to cause serious injury.

Guess you can never go wrong with this guy for a water type. Time for Slayer to do his th- Jason's thought is cut short as he spots a man in all black approach the happily splashing alligator Pokemon and mutter to himself. "Get me a Totodile she says, it's so cute she says. God, does she think these things are easy to track down?" The man pulls out a metal cylinder and aims at the Totodile, who turns its head slightly in confusion.

"Toto?" With a mostly silent click, the cylinder shoots a net out at the poor thing and ensnares it, the man almost immediately trying to pull it in, though the struggle it was putting up bought Jason the time he would need.

"Hey you, hold it!" His parents had told him stories about what Cipher's control of the Evig Region had done to the Pokemon populations and he wasn't about to watch it happen in front of him. Even as he ran, he unleashed his partners from their Pokeballs and gave orders to them. "Slayer, use Confusion to slow that guy down! Murus, grab that net and pull the other way!" Jason, meanwhile, would close with the man himself. Using the cellphone function of his Pokedex, Jason dialed the police and let them hear was was being said. "Poaching is wrong, you bastard!"
Royal Rumble in the Arena’d Jungle

Featuring Damian “Blades” Gerard, Roseletta “Black Rose” Griffonbane, Nolan “Ashen Ghost” Waltz, and Penny “The Phoenix” Hoft

Damian grinned as Rose erected her dome. True to form, the magic would keep her from seeing what he was doing just as much as protect her and keep him from seeing what she was doing. But that was fine. After a few more seconds of focusing the wind magic in his blade, he attacks, swinging the Hercules Blade vertically and unleashing a Vacuum Slash. Coming from any other of his blades, the attack would have hit the dome and been blocked, but the Hercules Blade packed the power to slash through spells, offensive and defensive, with relative ease and while the Vacuum Slash would hit head on, Damian dashed to the right of the dome of shadow and then towards it, using a horizontal slash to create an opening from another direction.

If this was supposed to be a show then Penny needed to step it up, but hey, if she wanted to keep on dancing about then who was he to stop her. He didn’t bother closing the distance between and instead, Nolan held his hand out, his palm facing toward the Phoenix Slayer. ”Ashen God’s Wrath.” It was followed by violent streams of ash like black sable blades circling around her, meant to restrict her from moving from where she was standing while also cutting her up if they caught her.

Inside the dome Rose stood and waited. She might not be able to see outside it but she could still sense and hear all that was happening. “Coming at me huh? Smart”she said moving back into the dome falling back into the shadow on the ground as the dome was slashed, revealing no one there before a shadow moved and went underneath him. The shadow became like liquid trying to encase his feet as other bits of shadows broke off and formed holes of their own as rose came out of one part way, resting her elbows on the ground around “Do you like my rabbit holes Damian, I recently figured this one out, took a lot of time to form it but it works well yes?”she asked as the hole under him trying sinking his feet, trying to trap him in place

Penny didn’t panic. What was there to panic about? She shifted her stance as Nolan sent forth his attack, trying to restrict her. Well, she had other ways of fighting back. As she let the blades draw in around her, Penny quietened her flames, letting them draw in closer and closer. Finally, at what she judged was the last minute, Penny sent a large amount of flames around her, forming into her Phoenix shape but in a larger form.

She drew out the sword that had found its way to her, despite rarely using it. The note that had come with it stated that her father had used it, and was resistant to flames- although Penny rarely worked with blades, she had picked up a thing or two. Enough to defend herself against whatever blades survived her inferno- although she wasn’t certain that the blade could fight the ashen ones.

So, with that thought in mind, Penny shifted and leaped back into the air- her domain, something she had, while not conquered, certainly claimed. Slashes from blades were nothing to her, the pain something she used to fuel her flames, knowing that eventually, her body would heal the wounds automatically.

”Phoenix flame: Fiery wrath” While Penny disliked using Phoenix abilities as an offensive, she would give the crowd what they wanted. The vortex of flames formed in front of her, guided in part by her hands as she twisted one through the air, the spinning of the vortex growing more violent before she expelled it towards Nolan in an accelerated force.

Damian grinned as he pivoted his Hercules Blade tip first into the ground and lifted himself vertically, though the summoned weapon was still slowly sinking downwards. ”Well played Rose. Have to admit, I wasn’t expecting a sinkhole spell. But you’re not the only one with tricks up their sleeve.” Pushing himself up and into the air while releasing and dismissing the Hercules Blade, Damian summoned and landed on a Striker Blade, hovering in the air. Summoning his Hermes Blades, he spins the twin short swords around before soaring over an unaffected spot near Rose’s rabbit holes and leaping off. Slamming the blades into the ground, Damian unleashes a Field of Blades, the attack moving in a cone shape towards Rose and her shadows. However, this is a distraction to allow Damian to take advantage of his speed boost and dash to one side of where he hoped Rose would appear to attack from a blind spot, otherwise he’d attack head on.

Boring, this was absolutely boring. There were no stakes at all, no hot blooded action between those fighting with the desire to win; it was all just a show. It was painted all over his face as he just watched Penny perform her maneuvers when caught up in Nolan’s spell. How was this entertaining to watch at all? Well, they all had their roles to play; if Penny was the blazing heroine of this fight then he simply will be its villain.

Black, divine ash seeped initially from his mouth and then from the rest of his body, swirling and merging together to form a rather unsettling human skull of large proportions. It had three eyes and looked as if it was grinning from ear-to-ear. ”Ashen God’s Appetite.” He stretched his arm out forward. ”Devour.” The skull launched towards the flaming projectile that Penny shot towards him, its jaw stretched open abnormally longer as it was going to quite literally bite down on what it was targeting.

Rose's rabbit holes wiggled and moved as if on their own towards Rose as she ducked back down into one only to form from one allowing him to strike her. Or her shadow allowed a strike as she became a hard black goo sucking the blade into the hole as one from his shadow formed allowing her scythe to come up swinging down

Penny couldn’t help the slight smile crossing her features. Alright, then. She followed up her attack with a, she hoped, controlled blast of flame, falling back onto her fire magic, instead of the Phoenix Magic. She couldn’t risk harming the crowd with that, couldn’t risk it when this match was about showing an exhibition of magic from them. No need to give more reason to bring back the fear of magic.

She moved fast, pushing off the ground and letting herself soar through the air, flames dancing around her, twisting faster and faster as she closed the distance between herself and Nolan. A giddiness bloomed inside her, the freedom of the wind striking through her flames, against her skin, the pure energy, chaotic and volatile of fire pushing her to act a little rash.

He wanted to eat flames, well, she’d give him all and more than he could take. She shot balls of flame without a concern for if they landed or not, one after the other in quick succession. With a few hand gestures small, Phoenix-like figures sprung up around her as she continued her dash towards Nolan, each with a few brief seconds of Phoenix song- spurring her to even more chaotic depths. They soared towards him, four flame built creatures that were nothing more than a distraction diving in and away from Nolan, around, spinning faster and faster around him.

”Fire tornado” The spell whipped up around her as she twisted away from crashing into Nolan, building into a fiery twister of energy that she built up around Nolan and herself.

Jack Goran|A Meeting of Masters, Old and New

Jack was almost entranced by the show as Phoenix Wing's four S-Class mages danced about each other, trading blows and flashing their spells where they can. Hearing Priscella's question, he spoke up so Jamie could focus on the match. "Nolan Waltz and Penny Hoft are, like myself, Slayers. Nolan wields Ash God Slaying magic while Penny wields the magic of a Phoenix Slayer. I myself am a Fire God Slayer." Glancing at where the bulk of the Phoenix Wing mages are, the Wizard Saint frowns.

"Sadly, it would seem their Poison Dragon Slayer hasn't returned yet, but they have a Dragon Slayer as well. Dragon Fang is home to a Jade Dragon Slayer as well, but they should, Gods willing, be on their way to deal with a problem..."

James Avelane|A Pupil's Arrival

As the match went on and Damian fought, James lightly nudged Cody with his elbow and pointed to the clash between Damian and Rose. "She's not the first scythe user we've seen, though thankfully she is on our side. However, when facing someone with a Scythe, what should you always try to-" Before James can even ask, Damian is knocked away. "Well...that was unexpected...Anyways, what is the best way to counter a scythe?"

Jane Addeson|Within the Fabled Hall

Jane was entranced by the fighting, seeing the four powerful mages going toe-to-toe as they were and after a few minutes, she turned to Belias. "I'm telling ya, Nolan's gonna have the best spells, him or Penny. Shadow magic and Damian's stuff just can't add up for the amount of flashy."
Jason Connor

Rubbing his partner's head as Connor returns his Scraggy and telling him he did a good job, Jason can't help but be happy they won their first match. Of course, the poor thing didn't stand a chance against Double Team and Disarming Voice, but...well, I'll take a little good luck. Letting Ralts look around a bit, the martial artist listens to his fellow trainer as the young man relays the rumor about the big jawed Pokemon and he hums thoughtfully.

"Well congrats on winning Jason. Now I was gonna keep the info to myself, but I'm sure you can find some use for it. Now it's just a rumor, but apparently at night people are claiming to see some Pokemon with a big jaw swimming about in the rivers. People keep trying to catch it, but it's very illusive. Well, use that info however you like. I gotta head back to the city." Before Jason has a chance to ask anything more, the cowboy was gone, already on his way back up the path to get his Scraggy healed at the Pokecenter in town. Sighing, Jason looks towards the river and then towards the sun, which was on its way to night, but still decently high in the sky.

Let's see here, if I take some time to catch a Golett, I should have time to run into town, heal up and then Slayer and I can explore some more until nightfall, when I'll head to the river...Yeah, that'll work. With a plan of action decided, the newly bloodied trainer calls to his partner and sets his sights on the Golett nearest him.

(Quick-catch Golett, using Double Team and Disarming Voice in a manner similar to the battle with Scraggy and then wait for nightfall.)
Jason Connor

Jason frowned as the more time he spent searching for signs of a rare Pokemon, the more he realized he didn't know as much about the ruins as he would have liked. Suppose I should have seen that coming after all, I haven't spent that much time learning the Pokemon as I have out in the forest and other wilderness areas learning the lays of the land... Eventually consigning himself to needing to talk to regulars along the trail and others who might live in the area, Jason was about to go try and catch one of the Golett's wandering around when he heard someone approaching from behind.

"Ho there! Hey stranger!" The voice belonged a young man around Jason's age, wearing a brown Stetson hat, matching brown boots, and rather worn-out, sun- bleached jeans, and an orange button up with the last button left open to show a white t-shirt, with looks that looked like they belonged on an actor from the 1930s instead of the young man facing him.

"Afternoon, what can I do for ya?" The young man continued speaking and Jason, being the respectful person he was, paid attention.

"Sorry, I was explorin' the ruins and I couldn't help, but notice that you have one of them Pokedexes that grump Kapoc gave out." As the young man reached for his orange pokedex, Jason chuckled quietly to himself at Kapoc getting called a grump. Certainly a mild way of putting it, without a shadow of a doubt. He brought his attention back to the other trainer as he resumed speaking and waited for another chance to speak.

"I guess we're rivals of sorts. The name is Connor, Connor Hagen." Jason accepted the proffered handshake and returned the hydraulic level handshake with a firm shake of his own, keeping the mental grimace off his face. His hand was rough and calloused, as if his palm was covered in a layer of it, which lead Jason to believe the man spent a lot of time working with his hands.

"Jason Connor. Pleasure." Introductions out of the way, Hagen got to his point.

"How about we celebrate our meeting with a battle? After all, if trainers lock eyes with one another, then we must battle." Connor tossed out a Pokeball and what came out was a strange bipedal lizard with saggy yellow skin that acts like pants that it always has to hold up. Jason's response was to hold out the Pokedex he'd been using to scan the surroundings to scan Connor's pokemon while retrieving Slayer's ball and tossing it to let his partner free.

Pokedex Entry #559-Scraggy, the Shedding Pokemon. If it locks eyes with you, watch out! Nothing and no one is safe from the reckless headbutts of this troublesome Pokémon. It protects itself with its durable skin. It's thought that this Pokémon will evolve once its skin has completely stretched out.

Jason couldn't believe his luck for his first match up against another trainer. Slayer, as the Ralts looked as determined as the cute little guy could, was a Psychic and Fairy type that, according to his Dex, already knew Disarming Voice. Conversely, the Scraggy was a Fighting and Dark type, which meant it was exceptionally weak to the one Fairy type move his partner knew. Still, defensively, Slayer doesn't have a lot going for it...Right then, I know! Coming up with a quick plan, he started to give his partner battle commands.

"Alright Slayer, this is our first step towards getting stronger, so let's win this! Start with Double Team and Growl, confuse it visually and audibly! Then trust your instincts and use Disarming Voice to take out Scraggy!" Nodding back to his trainer, Slayer sets to it, numerous visual doubles appearing in a matter of seconds all around the Scraggy as Growls ring out all around it. After a few seconds the signature pink sound waves of Disarming Voice move towards the Scraggy, with seemingly no real rhyme or reason to their pattern. Jason held his breath involuntarily as he watched, hoping he'd made the right call.
Jason Connor

Surveying the route with a grin on his face, Jason looks over the route forwards on the walk way, picking the resting Geodudes out almost as second nature from all the time he spent in the wild back home in the Hoenn region. "Right, and with these first steps, I begin my own Pokemon journey here in the Evig region." Setting out at a brisk pace, the new trainer decides that the best place to come across a Pokemon that people didn't see all the time on the route was to hit up the ruins, maybe even set up camp there for the night. The way to Starbor Forest wasn't going to be changing randomly on him and besides, sometimes old ruins had entrances to cave systems, so he figured where better to start fossil hunting. However, first, after setting up his camp site, he would search around to see what rare Pokemon signs, or even the little beastie themselves, might be hanging out.
Spartan Lucas Ryker

Recognizing what it was that Commander Vael was asking of him, Lucas sighed quietly and looked up towards the cannon, swapping modules over to the Promethean Vision and seeing what he could see, which was more than he would have admittedly given it credit for, as only heat signatures seemed to register, but even with that...We'd still need to get up the rock face, get Grikgar and his explosives in place... His brain continued to go over the details of what they would have to do in either situation and, while it couldn't do it as fast as Shih could, still came to a conclusion fairly quickly.

"They're both uncertain and come with unique dangers and challenges. Mine comes from the fact that I'll be alone, Grik's has a chance of just not working like we need. So speaking objectively...I have to say stealth over chance. I've been in and out of plenty of Covenant installations, even before I was a Spartan. This? Nothing new. My concern is we know these guys are allied with the Prometheans, won't they have access to the Promethean tech as well?"
