Ey, want you to know I'm still interested, it just takes me forever to get a character done without any pressure (such as a looming game start) and especially since there's so many potential characters and adaptations to do. Will get it done today or tomorrow. Also you might want to try pinging everyone who you pre-approved and tell them game can't start until everyone finishes their sheet.
Right, I've a bit of free time on my hands atm and both Dark Light and someone else who's contacted me over PM seem a bit lost on the whole 2099 deal so I thought I'd crap out a little bit of a primer to go with our GMs intro.

Marvel 2099 is an extremely 90s cyberpunk what-if alternate future. Think rampant megacorporations that rule vast swathes of the world and the corruption that ensues, scientific and technological advances that are often detrimental rather than favorable for mankind and the planet, massive social inequality, human modification and loss of identity and a hectic underground world of mercenaries, freedom fighters, hackers and the like. Now filter that through 90s comic books where two of the original lineup stars were The Punisher and Doctor Doom. There's some serious themes but this isn't exactly the most serious and thoughtful medium.

As for the links to the regular Marvel universe. The line was thought up as happening a bit over 100 years into the future when it was published in 93, with the story being that the "Age of Heroes" of Earth 616 came to an abrupt end due to an unspecified catastrophe that set civilization back. Prior to the point where the comics start, there were no active superheroes in 2099, and the superheroes of old have become myths and legends with worship of Thor and Hulk playing part in stories. Links to the old heroes are oftentimes tenuous at best, so the whole "son of" deal wasn't exactly prevalent.

By way of examples, Hulk 2099's backstory involves the Knights of Banner, a group experimenting with Gamma Rays to try to recreate the original Hulk. Punisher 2099 is a member of the private police force who suffers personal tragedy and is inspired to take up the mantle after coming across Frank Castle's war journal. Much of the plot of Doom 2099 involves a great deal of doubt over the identity of this Doctor Doom and whether he is or not the actual Victor. One of the major crossover plotlines was an attempt to create a false pantheon of Norse gods in order to quell the new wave of heroes. There's plenty of room to be at least slightly more creative than just a future descendant of X or Y.

In short, 90s cyberpunk Marvel with an emphasis on the "punk" where the heroes of old are often taken as myths and legends. Near future technological dystopia with some actually serious themes but the focus is more on flashy laserguns, crazy powers, flying vehicles, neon lights and a good deal of violence as the way to go about dealing with The Man.
Interested, for better or worse X-Men 2099 was actually some of the first comics I got when I was a tiny bab.
Maybe interested but just one question: why is this a school thing? I mean, this kind of thing typically happens in gyms/fight teams you know. Hell sometimes it's still dojos/kwoons/dojangs when the founder had a more traditionalist background.
@ProPro
Fair's fair. I'll still argue that everything else posted in the CS that I pointed out made it pretty clear on what he was meant to do, that basically everyone fights so "fighter" is pretty moot and that "fisherman" isn't really a crew position and is there as a joke when you take into account all that stuff I detailed in my prior post. Still, probably for the best, I've a feeling I wouldn't have gelled from what I've seen. Cheers mate.
@Zero Hex It is unfortunate, but I have to deny you. It appears that you did not read the rules. My additional critiques for the character himself would be that he literally has no history, and you spread him over pretty thin by giving him a wide range of both jobs and abilities related to those jobs. I'm not sure if he was intended to be the jack of all trades and able to "back up" the primary crew members as an assistant, but it ends up feeling like he has less of his own identity and focus. This is a shame, because these are all fairly easy fixes and I enjoy the concept. He'd add a great amount of cultural value. I'm sorry, but Samu Isaia is denied on those grounds.

I did say he wasn't completed, it's right there at the top of the post, just thought I'd drop what I had to show that yea I'm working on it. As for the rest, I literally focused on one thing alone which was being a crazy island fisherman that wrestles with Sea Kings. I am honestly not sure how that didn't come across because I laid it on pretty thick despite not having the backstory up.

It's there in his epithets, his position includes "fisherman", his Jolly Roger is a guy on top of a dead sea king with fists for crossbones, his ambitions are all about going from sea to sea killing Sea Kings, his first like is "fishing", his quirks include that he doesn't actually know how to use fishing gear, his wrestling skill tells you this is how he does his fishing. He's practically a bear slapping salmon out of a river, but also a crazy person doing it in One Piece.

He can guide a boat because you need to if you're alone and going off to fish, also because the joke is that the navigator is the crazy person that loves hunting monsters rather than the calm and collected weather sorceress. He can swim good because he fishes by pummeling sea creatures, he has to know to deal with water. He has a joke thing about tying rafts together because he's a crazy islander who wrestles sea monsters, why wouldn't he try to do it on a bunch of logs and rope.

I'm legitimately not sure if you actually read the CS or you just skimmed and rejected me for defending the weird horse fish here. Which, you know, I'd understand I'd just rather be told that.
@ProPro
Well, here we go, sort of. Still missing the backstory but it's late, I'll add it in later and you can take a look at what I have now if you want. Figured the crew could use a manly man and One Piece could use a shoutout to Hawaii, which has produced two sumo grand champions, hosted a lively pro wrestling scene and and was instrumental in the spread of eastern martial arts to the US.

That was hardly the point.

Oh but it was as far as my post and the one post adressed to me was. The person responding to me didn't address the examples of other strange sentient animals, just went with calling the character "your ugly creature" after I said I considered it unique and different then made a roundabout insulting statement comparing it to a character known for being both dumb and extremely disliked. You'll notice I haven't touched upon the player himself in my lone short post, that you can go read, because that really isn't my problem. But nice try.
@Leaves
Hm, yes, how dare someone not make a garden variety anime person or inoffensive Toad. In One Piece, the series known for serious art and low-key designs and aesthetic.
Hi there, been lurking and writing up my character. Not to be inopportune but

I also have no idea what arena contestants you're talking about. The only time I remember an animal fighting in an arena was the Corrida Colosseum tournament for the flare flare fruit, which had the fighting fish and the bull, both of which were natural obstacles for the combatants to deal with. If you have something else you can remember, please cite the specifics and I'll gladly consider the statement.

Both the Fighting Bull and the Fighting Lion (different block, beaten by Orlumbus) weren't treated as arena obstacles like the Fighting Fish but as actual contestants and Ucy showed some intelligence despite being there almost entirely to act as Luffy's mount. There's also guys like the Kung Fu Dugongs, who do martial arts and have a code of honor to them and one even formed an all-animal pirate crew in anime filler. An animal having higher intelligence wouldn't really be out of place at all, is what I'm getting at, especially a rare one.

EDIT: Also, for what it's worth, I do like the character. It's pretty unique and different, it's creative and funny and it stands out a lot from the rest of the posted CSes in a good way.
