Raymond Blum stared down at his phone, staring at the leaked images of the aftermath onboard the N-train. Violence was a necessary part of the job, but there was a reason they kept it hidden away from the public. Out of context, it just looked like a massacre onboard a train.

"What, what is it?" Pandora asked, having only started paying attention once the Assistant Director started getting agitated about something. Like a moth to flame she rose from her chair and hovered over his shoulder.

"Oh, shit, indeed!” Pandora barked a laugh. "Well, how unfortunate for you. That little incident on the train got leaked. Too bad."

A bead of sweat ran down Raymond Blum’s forehead. He tightened the grip on his cellhpone. “Two of your teammates are dead, Pandora.”

Pandora set an elbow on his shoulder, pouting. "I suppose they are.”

“I’ll not have you making light of it.” He turned to face the audacious woman, shrugging off her arm and pocketing his cellphone.

"Oh, please. Don’t act so high and mighty. This entire bloody thing is just-”

“I’m not sure what the policy was under the previous director, but I hope you won’t forget that I am your superior.” He cut her off with a stern look.

Pandora shut her mouth, raising an eyebrow.

Blum continued. ”Upon debriefing, I learned that you elected not to act immediately, instead choosing to let others go in front of you. Despite your experience and having the highest ranking power on your team. I was only going to bring this up in private, but since you seem intent on not showing me or your fellow Heroes respect, I might as well show you the same courtesy. Since your slot on team missions can be filled with someone more useful and proactive, I’ll be having you sit out the next mission. Please make your exit.”

Pandora bit something back, glaring at the Assistant Director. He met her gaze. After a moment, the woman moved past him and out the door. Raymond Blum cleared his throat and looked to the other heroes. ”My apologies.”

He turned his gaze to Blitz. ”Mister Baeth. I figure I’d also take this opportunity to remind you on HERO’s policy on self-defense. While your elimination of the targets within the train was technically legal, it’s not the kind of conduct I’d like to see continue. I know things can get pretty hectic in the line of fire, and your enemies were certainly dangerous. But as someone with a great deal of physical power like you, I know a little restraint can go a long way. I’m not asking you to fluff their pillows, but in future, don’t let your emotions get the better of you. The more people make it out alive, the better.” The Assistant Director explained. ”Concussions and broken bones are recoverable. Dying, not so much.”

As Raymond Blum considered the implications of the leak and the future it had on HERO, he regained his composure, adjusted his tie, and cleared his throat.

“Regardless. I won’t be taking any further disciplinary action. But if we want to fully succeed on these missions, it’s important that you don’t let the enemy divide you. Their only strength against us is our lack of vigilance. Now, we’re going to move onto our counter-attack.”

A projector canvas came down from the ceiling. Director Steel, poised as ever, entered the room. Blur Rabbit, Stray, Enkidu, Kanati, Gematria, Fortune’s Son, Nilin, and Spark Gal had all been asked to assemble in the briefing room alongside Dawnbreaker, Blitz, Europa, and Dead Man.

”Law enforcement officers. Despite mixed results in our last batch of missions, the ball, as it were, is now in our court.” She said. From the ceiling, images were displayed on the white canvas. They showed four primary locations. Three images were marked in blue. One was marked in red.

”Our primary mission is an investigation into the attack on Michelle Lewis. The attempt on her life sobered her up, so to speak, to our investigations into her and her cohorts actions. Heavily inebriated at the time, her eye witness accounts of her own actions were shotty at best. Four pieces of information were provided to us via her input.”

She pressed the button of a remote she had gotten from seemingly nowhere, and the blue dots lit up with information.

”Her own record and camera accounts show that the last thing her and her friends did was ‘raid’ a convenience store for ‘more booze.’ This is Sahara Snacks. They caused a great deal of property damage here, and the cameras were destroyed as a result. One to two of you will be deployed here to investigate.”

“Next, an underused port. Cargo containers used to be moved on and off ships from this location, though preliminary scouts show a lack of activity in recent months. A perfect place to operate something illegal. Michelle Lewis reported breaking open several cargo crates to see what was inside, though again, her memory is spotty. A small team of you will be deployed to search the area.

“Thirdly, an abandoned seaside warehouse that used to be used for storing pharmaceutical supplies. Michelle Lewis went there for reasons she didn’t want to elaborate on, though she insists that whatever it is they didn’t do there, it wasn’t there fault. Yet another select few of you will be deployed to search area. All of you will maintain telecommunications contact throughout the mission, incase evidence needs to be cross referenced throughout the multiple locations.”

“Finally, she gave us a word. Lighthouse. She can’t remember where or how she heard it, but the word quote; ‘creeps her out now’. This will be our primary mission. Assistant Director?”
She indicated the taller man.

Raymond Blum stepped forward, indicating the red dot on the map. ”Sam Everette may have escaped, but she didn’t leave without clues. The nuclear bomb she was attempting to secure was potentially being sold to an anti-mutant supremacist group called the Order of Pure Citizens.” Derision entered his voice. ”Or ‘Oops’, for short.” He chuckled, glancing at the stern Director and clearing his throat.

”OoPC is also attempting to muscle into the fight pit market. As you may know, illegal bloodsport is all the rage these days, and is used as prime recruiting ground for ‘promising’ villains. Right? Whoever controls these fight pits will have steady access to eager, desperate people with powers, willing to fight and be hurt for money. Combine this with their desire for a nuke, and it’s clear that OoPC are looking to forward their agenda via leverage.” He cleared his throat.

”This clubhouse, the Rainy Day, is highly suspected of being the location of a fight club. Members of the Rocketeers were also spotted in the vicinity, furthering the connection between Ms. Everett and these eclectic douchebags.” The Assistant Director said.

”Your mission here is pretty simple. Locate and arrest Kilroy Evans. He is both one of many managers of the fight club, a member of the Rocketeers, and has strong ties to OoPC. If you can get him, we can squeeze him for more intel.” He showed a mug shot of a particularly greasy looking man.

”Your secondary objective is to shutdown the fight club, kicking serious ass in the process. There may be many persons of interests within the building that are secondary objectives. Arrest them if you can. We have the jump on them this time- there’s no evidence to suggest that they know we’re coming.” He said. This plan was a good one. They had to act fast in both instances, sure. Both to not lose any leads left behind by the Michelle Lewis case, and so that the Rainy Day fight club doesn’t go back underground. But they still had the jump on the enemies of peace in Castleburg.

”Your teams have already been assigned. Rest up, take the night off, you move out tomorrow evening at 4 o’clock PM. 1600 hours.” He set dossiers on the table. On them were their assigned teams.

”If any one of you have any thoughts or concerns, be it about the roster or about the mission, the Director and I will be hearing them now.” He said, folding his hands behind his back. He shot a glance towards Director Steel, who nodded, silently saying: ‘not bad’. Raymond Blum stood up a little straighter.

The day of their next mission would be arriving faster than they thought.

Academy of Young Heroes
Lighthouse Island, Castleburg

The tall man grunted in surprise as her wild limbs pummeled into him. Even with his enhanced strength, her strikes were wild and heavy. As he prepared to escape, his arms were pulled down, and Gematria landed a solid punch right to his jaw. The tall assassin spiralled and fell to the floor, unconscious. Gematria would notice Jenny had reached out and pulled the man’s arms to his sides, letting Gematria finish the fight. Jenny nodded at the mechanical hero and smiled, shrugging.

The electrokinetic prepared a blast, but Polaris tore a chunk of metal railing out of the ground and held it in front of the pair. All of the electricity began to ripple harmlessly through the metal. Strain made the railing immensely heavy and Polaris lobbed it at the assassin. It crushed him against the ground, pinning him against the concrete with his arms at his sides.

Meanwhile, the winged man was quickly overwhelmed by Graham’s assault. Before long he plummeted through the air. “I give up, I give up!” He shrieked, desperately wanting to avoid being gouged. He fell to the ground and curled up into a ball, surrendering.

Eyepatch man surface, spitting out water. He considered getting back into the fight, but he also knew it was already lost. “Fucking idiots.” He swore. Marching boots echoed throughout lighthouse island as security forces mobilized. “Can’t believe how impossible this job was. I’m outta here.” With that he teleported into the water, splashing and swimming to the mainland. A few more teleports later and he was long gone, vanishing back into Castleburg.

Armed guards swarmed the area, including a particularly stressed out looking Principal Lee.

“Oh God, oh God, oh God-” She murmured, running a hand through her hair as she jogged into the outside area. Quickly as possible she organized the capture effort. Superpowers or not, it was pretty difficult to escape when cuffed and surrounded by guards armed with guns and powerful tasers.

“Okay well...ignoring whatever the hell that was.” Drew Reedsworth said, sitting on the top of the platform. “I get the ten dollars, still. So. Let’s not forget that.” He began floating down, still feeling tingles from where an assault rifle had been pointed at his head.

Michelle Lewis slowly lowered her hands. “Yo...those guys, like, totally wanted to kill me. Was that real?”

Four underpaid orchestra teachers were found on the roof and quickly put back into regular clothes. None of them would speak of this day again.

Jenny assessed the damage, lifting a few pieces of rubble back into place. “Well, whoever they were, they clearly got a little cocky. I’m pretty sure I would have made a better supervillain, and I wasn’t even a real one.”

Principal Lee tried to use her superpower of bureaucratic damage control, and she did somewhat succeed. Needless to say this entire incident would be a demerit on her career, but the coincidence of the attack on the school with her fake villain attack couldn't be blamed on her. As long as she didn't do it again. After all, she was a teacher at a school for superpowered students, so any temporary lapses of judgement or bouts of insanity were to be expected and corrected for within the budget.

Michelle Lewis breathed a sigh of relief. The consequences of her actions were graver than she had anticipated. HERO took her in for questioning. Several questions had to be raised within HERO intelligence. Why target Michelle Lewis? What reason could these assassins have to kill a girl in the middle of a populated HERO compound? Of course the assassins knew nothing- they were hired guns and nothing more.

Nonetheless, a plan of counter-action would be devised. Soon, HERO would make their play and start putting their many enemies on the defensive for once.
De'kae cracked one eye open. An owl had been staring at Daero'moroke, and he fluttered off as the guards approached, finding some unseen portion of the castle to nuzzle up in. Owly would keep a wise distance away from his mortal companion, for now.

Rouse from her slumber, De'kae realised she was being carried. And also realised that she had fallen asleep. Her face went blank as an empty canvas. "Uhh...hi." She said so quietly no one could hear her.

Soon she was set down, a little roughly, though that may just be because she was fragile, on the floor. De'kae's yellow eyes widened as one by one, people teleported in, arrived dramatically, or talked and talked and talked. They were all taking seats. De'kae's heart rate picked up, and if she was capable, she would be sweating nervously. Her eyes scanned the buffet, recognizing every plant and animal that was used in the making of the meal. But De'kae couldn't eat in front of other people. That was so weird, right? It was weird to eat in front of other people. Lord Ahriman was here, and he looked really big.

De'kae reached up and patted her hat, finding Owly had deserted her.

Was it just her, or was she out of place? Everyone here looked really serious or powerful. Sure, she had some connections. But this seemed like a lot.

...The lizardfolk had no idea what to do now. Figuring these guards had set her down on this particularly spot for some particularly reason, De'kae laid back down on her back and stared up at the ceiling. Saying nothing and doing nothing. She held her staff up against her body and blinked, occasionally shifting her eyes to one spot or another, but without moving her head.
ez breezy!

whoever said posts have to be anything more than easy breezy lied to you
@Pirouette

I'm excited to meet our new spidey-hero x3

Spidey's disappearance is a great opportunity tbh, regardless of how long it lasts. and i know, right? I'm so glad this RP just came back to life. It really is a comic book- the death didn't stick.
@Sep i thought your post was very cool. it's awesome to have a big group like SHIELD being controlled by player(s). also it's gonna be sick to see old man America back in action.

And hey, there's my Wasp post!! I'm so excited to be playing her. I may have subconsciously made a chatterbox, extroverted hero to counter all the silent, isolated brooding Cassandra was doing...well, it worked out! so eager am i to finally directly interact with another human IC, I have dropped wasp directly into the lap of one kyoka/She-Hulk. hope that's okay, lol

THE WASP!
End of Post Location: Manhattan, Times Square. Interacting with: She-Hulk! @Kyoka

"WALL!"

Janet Van Dyne smacked into brick, spiralled her arms and fell into a back alley. "Huh what huh what huh what what?!" She sputtered, putting a hand on her mask as if to hold her hurt nose. Baffled, the wings attached to her suit vibrated with nervous energy. One minute, she was flying through the red skies if the microcosmic planetoids of Homeworld, the next, she flattened herself against a very familiar looking alleyway!

"This is...this is...New York! NYC! The Big Apple! I can't believe it- I'm home, I'm really home!" The Winsome Wasp jumped for joy, celebrating wildly. Then she dropped into a thinking position, cupping the chin of her mask. "But why? Why now? After all these months?" Squinting, she noticed she was casting a shadow straight beneath her, even though the entire alley was shielded from the sun. Glancing upwards, Jan noticed...

"Einstein's ghost! Someone's ripped the up the rug of the space-time continuum!" A few feet above her, a rift had opened. Fluttering uptowards it, The Wasp produced a handheld scanner. The readout on the inside of her mask began telling her all sorts of things. Fluctuations in the surface of the universe. The surprisingly fragile fabric of the universe was folding in over itself. In short? "Bad News with a capital N! Portals are opening up all over the boroughs. Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn!" Janet slapped the side of her helmet in silver-age alarm.

"<Janet? Earthling? What has happened? Are you well?>" A vibrating voice called out in a very strange language. Janet peered into the portal and saw the green-skinned, red-eyed humanoid named G'nark that she had called her friend for the last few months.

"<G'nark!>" Jan replied in the same language. "<Don't step through the portal! I've got good news and I've got bad news. The Good news is, I'm home! The Bad news is, these portals are extremely unstable. I'm probably only here because of my suit. I have to close all of them as fast as possible! Thank you for being so good to me all this time, G'nark!>" She waved.

"<I see.>" He replied, eyes widening. "<Well, then. It was a pleasure to have you, Winsome Wasp. As you say: good luck! May the Synchronisity unite our paths again.>" G'nark said.

"<Hey yeah, you got it, pal! Life's nothin' but a bunch of goodbyes, anyway!>" She smiled. "<So long!>" With a playful salute, she shot out of frame. G'nark began to assemble a team of his men to close off the influence of the rift on his side of the cosmic line, to ensure it's chaotic influence didn't bring even more harm to his microcosmic realm. This was the Hank Pym situation all over again.

A moment later, Janet peaked her head into view of the portal again. "<G'nark.>" She said, solemn. The Homeworlder turned in her direction. "<Tell Hank I'm sorry things worked out the way they did. I wish him well. I'm sure he could be a great Ant-Man again...someday.>"

G'nark wasn't sure if he agreed with her assessment. But if there was one thing that consistently proved true about Janet Van Dyne, it was her faith in people. So he nodded, intent to pass the message along. Having already said goodbye, Janet nodded back and vanished out sight for good.

Janet buzzed out of the alley and soared over the skyline. She gasped as she saw pure chaos descending upon New York! The Dominators were back! Didn't they just kick their sorry asses a couple years ago? She supposed these forces were probably being pulled from another time. At the very least, it wasn't a full invasion force. No doubt other troubles were spilling in through the portals. Though she held out a little hope that the Intergalactic Tea Party Coalition was infesting Queens instead of some other threat she couldn't see yet, Janet wasn't counting on it.

"This has to be an accident. There's nothing deliberate about these convergences. And of course, no invader would willingly summon the Winsome Wasp to challenge them! Haha!" The Wasp pocketed her readout device and pressed a button on her wrist. That activated the neural link that connected her mind to her suit, giving her full control over all the aspects of her suit.

With a spin, she zoomed off towards Time Square to face the Dominators. Now, with all this madness going on, the best thing to do would be to find the source of these rifts and shut them off! Though she could be useful in the field, it might be even more beneficial for her to stop by a research team and plug her readouts into a big ol' computer! At the very least, they had to triangulate the biggest ones in order to deduce the source. Thinking of this while flying, she attempted to contact Avengers, or SHIELD.

When she reached for her Avengers beeper and began to fiddle with it in order to contact HQ, she didn't have access. Her beeper was outdated! Had they changed the passwords already? She'd only be able to broadcast on public signals, which were probably all jammed up from the chaos. That would be no good. It seemed then, that her best bet would be to find an Avenger and start coming up with a plan! They'd also probably be happy to see her after her short little vacation. Hopefully no one was worried about her!

Little did Janet know, had anyone been looking right at her and Hank as they plunged through that unstable portal, it looked like the pair were totally disintegrated! Biometrics picked up zilch. GPS? Nada. Not even Ant-Man or the Wasps's own tech, designed to find them at microscopic sizes, could pick them up. As they travelled through a portal that the Wasp overloaded, with a dramatic explosive finish..? And then about a decade of silence? Well, it would make sense for anyone to assume little miss Van Dyne had finally bitten the big one. It'd be stupid to assume she hadn't! Janet Van Dyne really hadn't thought through all the implications of her re-arrival. The only thing that saved her was probably her own bodies natural infusion of quantum particles. It was a 50/50 chance that Schrodinger's Janet turned up alive, and, luckily for her, it had turned up tails. Or in this case, stinger!

Protecting civilians was always priority number one, but when the space-time continuum was in trouble, heroes could play keepaway with the threats all day long as they just kept pouring in. Eventually, the bad guys would win. That's why you always had to press the big red button the baddies never wanted you to press. The one that said 'emergency shutdown' or 'self-destruct sequence' or 'drop piñata'.

Her first goal was to visit all three portals and get the co-ordinates and quantum readings of each. After doing that, she should hypothetically be able to zero in on the source. From what her readout was telling her, each portal was from a different time period and location. Thus, they were being attracted here, not propelled from somewhere else. If this was a purposeful attack, all of the portals would be from the same time and place.

First up- Times Square. A populated area, with two timelines converging. To be honest, this entire crisis was kind of in her wheelhouse. She and Pym were Earth's leading scientists on space-time manipulation.

Wasp emerged into a Times Square thrown into panic. She looked from the T-Rex, to the spaceship, and then back again. "Where's Jeff Goldblum when you need him?"

Needless to say, this T-Rex had to go. Out of the corner of her eye, Janet spotted- hey, that was She-Hulk! Already on the scene, as usual. Even though it hadn't been that long since Janet had seen Jenny, it was still a relief to see her again.

But a hello could wait. The Wasp had a T-Rex to stop! The poor thing must be confused and angry as all get out, but it was a big hazard. Reaching into what she affectionately called her Hammerspace Pouch, Wasp produced a small circular device with a glowing blue light.

It was actually the technology in the suit that allowed her to maintain super strength while both big and small. If anyone without specialized equipment got shrunk or expanded, it wouldn't be nearly as useful. Which was why as the T-Rex roared into the sky, no doubt percieving threats all around it, the Wasp tapped a button on the device. Holding it in one hand, she stuck up her thumb and levelled her index finger at the dinosaur.

Pew, pew, pew!

Though they hadn't rung through New York in many years, Janet thought the sound effect was quite iconic and memorable. A high pitched, zippy sort of noise, the Stinger fired shots out of Wasp's finger tip. They literally sounded like 'pew pew' noises, and despite being deadly weapons had an unmistakable charming sci-fi air about them. Little yellow bolts peppered the T-Rex, causing it to flinch and angrily look up in her direction.

"Alley-oop!" Wasp swooped in underneath the ancient beast, skidding underneath it feet first. Coming to a stop, she curled up into a ball, and willed herself to expand, kicking upwards with the flat of her feet. For a brief moment, Janet was as tall as the T-Rex itself. The T-Rex was launched dozens of feet into the air like it had bounced on a massive trampoline, it's little limbs and big tail flailing helplessly. Wasp regained her normal size and zoomed up to meet the T-Rex in midair, at the zenith of it's ascension. Buzzing to it's back, she slapped to blue device there and tapped a button, activating it manually. There was a sound like an electric zipper being pulled shut, and the T-Rex shrunk to the size of a little baby chicken. Wasp reached out and plucked it from the air before it could fall. Her shrinker device had shrunken as well, and had expended all of its energy. She'd need to visit her old lab to get it back to normal size and re-charge it.

Smiling, she held the T-Rex up to her face. "Say, now that you can fit in the palm of my hand, you're actually pretty cute! I'm gonna name you Reptar." She stroked the top of Reptar's head to soothe him. She didn't have time to soak in her victory or the glory with the fleeing civilians so she quickly buzzed on down to meet her old friend Jennifer Walters, otherwise known She-Hulk.

"I take a little summer vacation and New York's already falling apart again. I don't know what you guys would do without me, haha!" Janet Van Dyne chirped in her usual, unflappable comedic tone. She tapped a button on her visor and the metal mask snapped back into the rest of her yellow and black helmet, revealing her bright face and toothy grin. Ten years later, and she looked like she hadn't aged a day. Well, she'd aged about four months. So the only difference was her suit had a new, alien looking gizmo on her hip.

But her reappearance combined with the Dominator's re-emergence confirmed one thing- it really was 2010 all over again.
@Cybermaxx nooo

he's endangered
Yay, new player character!

Not to be too presumptious, but I've already completed my introductory Wasp post. I have her handily defeat the T-Rex by shrinking it down to a harmless size and then casually re-introduce herself to She-Hulk with a quip, pretty clearly exposing that she's clueless to the fact that she's been declared dead for ten years.

you can if you want too but I would be very appreciative if nobody squished the T-Rex like Superboy squished the Chitauri space worm...Janet has already named him Reptar 🥺

So I suppose I am just waiting on feedback now :3
the only rush is my excitement to get this posted and get involved with the RP in earnest again
