Most of that stuff could probably break down after a while. Knowing heavy equipment all it takes is some asshole to tighten a bolt too tight - or too lose - to start a reaction to ruin the machine. There'd also be the market in trying to sell those machines, if you can even run them in a world with no fuel or no electricity. I can see that you're trying, but I can't help but think you're trying too hard to justify wealth in having the parts for a large conveyor belt or the engines to a beached ore barge.

NMU is also incredibly tiny as far as universities go, and isn't even as major a research institution. Western Michigan is ranked even higher. But even in this realm the specialized equipment for research wouldn't be much use once the lights go out. But, surely you'd find decades irrelevant business research information relevant.

No desire to start with a wealth community. Just small-scale manufacturing and equipment. The scope of industry I'm thinking for the M.C is intact pneumatic and electric cabling equipment. There wouldn't be communications infrastructure nor electrical grid. All the fuel goes to the city, or what little is left anyhow. The city can grind out some makeshift mechanical tools for repairing what's laying around. Mining is the key word. Scale down the current operation and we're thinking medieval mining. The tools left around or cobbled together amplify the output, but there isn't much to pass around. Automobile parts and mechanical repair tools get sold to other communities, exchanges are had.

Bare minimum equipment needed to maintain mid-19th century mining, and a very small labor force to begin with. Again, the villages around Marquette are hilariously dependent on that city. What little they can afford to sell they do. I'm operating under the assumption that all heating and electrical utilities are gone from the surrounding area, including Marquette. When someone can provide you with leftover tools, however crappy they are, that can mean quite a difference. The goal of Marquette is expansion exactly because they are self-aware of their predicament. The M.C isn't wealthy, it's just a fortified hermit government operating on long-term food rationing. Uniting the U.P will ease the pain, but the real bounty lies south.

(I'm attending Western, definitely aware of the size difference. NMU however is still the biggest campus in the region. Training Electricians and Technicians takes equipment, lots of it. The equipment doesn't even matter, it's the textbooks and knowledge they can scavenge.)

I'm not American, and I know next to nothing about the Great Lakes area, so it might take me a little while to get a NS up. Need to do a little research first.

Interesting. Now if this took place in California though...I might have joined. Though this is interesting. I will be watching this.

Everybody knows its all about California...despite our problems. (Expecting negative comments about California already...)

California is burned out with a state wide drought and ten wild fires every second. Not to mention the insane gas prices.

So I hope we'll get some more nation sheets? Definitely willing to commit if this gets the green light.

The Courier rebooted is going to be a racist South Carolinian instead of a dude who spent way too much time around Germans. Also, whenever I did posts there I would write dialogue in German and piss everyone off.

While Evan's on that note I might as well put out an app for people like him.

Name:

Physical Description:

History:

The individual character app isn't really for anyone with a faction and you don't need to use it to introduce any characters within your faction. So don't feel obligated to do it unless you want to fill it out and keep track of your characters, like Evan and I's friend Vilage.

I'll just make a whole faction worth of dudes with the individual app sheet.

"Pvt. Tom Thompson is the first member of 1st squad, 1st platoon, A company, 1st battalion, 1st brigade, 1st Infantry Division. Pvt. John Summers is the second member of the same."

Faction: Thunder Bay Republic.

Location:

History: Thunder Bay, a small city on the northern bank of Lake Superior, quickly descended into chaos when the disaster hit. Anarchy reigned for a decade or so, as self-named kings rose and fell trying to control the ratrace that was Thunder Bay. Resources were scarce and only the strongest survived. This finally came to an end when a Royal Canadian Army battalion arrived. The soldiers, part of the 2nd Canadian Division based in CFB Shilo military base, had been moving through the country scavenging for supplies and searching for a location for a new base. They decided on Thunder Bay. After a brief fight, the soldiers took control of the city and had crushed any other competitors. Under military leadership and guidance, the city began producing its own food, and systems were set in place to ensure work was allocated equally.

Fifty years on, and many of the original soldiers are dead, but the military is still in control. The city operates on an ad-hoc communist system - all resources are collectivised; one quarter going to the army, one quarter set aside for trading, the rest divided between the civilians based on the quality and quantity of work done. It is not a popular system, but effective. Over the years, the nation has spread out to encompasse the surrounding countryside, as well as the nearby Isle Royale National Park. Most of the original industries of Thunder Bay are gone, but the nation has a considerable fishing fleet, and a reasonably strong agricultural base. Despite having 'Republic' in the name, the city does not hold elections and the commander of the military, named by their predecessor, holds all power.
