Having played NV first, is it startling that Megaton, the first settlement you see, is basically larger and more populated than the Strip.

I've always been of the mind that NV was better than 3, particularly in a narrative sense. I will agree that I was mildly disappointed with the Strip, though. I don't know that Megaton was larger, but it's been a while since I've seen Megaton.

I feel like NV settlements were too barren. Freeside in particular was just completely empty, despite having supposed to have been a crowded slum. Game developers need to realize that it's okay for there to be non-named NPC's that aren't hostile.

Yes please. I really hate when I'm visiting a 'bustling city' and there's ten named NPCs.

It's even worse in games that aren't post-apocalyptic. There's less of an excuse, then.

How many named NPC's were in Whiterun, Skyrim's largest city? Maybe thirty?

I think that they may not have enough room, or whatever, to fit things that aren't absolutely necessary. I don't know though, I haven't played any of the games, nor am do I know anything about coding/programing.

And half of them are merchants or important to the story. Whiterun has a total of ten merchants, including those that sell you things out of shops. Each one has a name because its easier to remember than "The guy in the shop on the right side of Whiterun that sells whatever."

That's a long-standing tradition in the Elder Scrolls games and has something to do with Bethesda's game design philosophy. They want every character in their towns to feel memorable or be distinctive in some way, and that means there's a limit to how many they can feasibly create.

Except that there really isn't a limit, besides what can be physically fit into the game. The most costly aspect of character creation is the voice work. You can throw together a character model in a game like Skyrim in literally a few minutes. Less, even.

Besides, I'd rather have the cities feel populated than have every single character be memorable (which isn't the case as it is).

I grew accustomed to NV's iron sights and am now suffering for it.

I'm the kind of guy that started out with the Black Isle games, but as much as I feel like Bethsoft really pissed on Fallout lore with the BoS and Enclave in DC and all that, I still really love the amount of love they put into the aesthetics and atmosphere. As ridiculous as stuff like Megaton and Little Lamplight were, there was just something about all the places from Rivet City to the ruined metro that had this oddly soothing spirit about it. It was enchanting, and really pulled me away from the disgust I had around certain other aspects of the game.

Overall, lots for me as a Fallout "veteran" to not like, but I still appreciate the work Bethsoft put into the game.

Mhmm. Just have to turn it on in your settings. Iron sights and Hardcore mode are the two biggest things I miss from NV.

Since the PS4 and XBone have basically the same internal whatjamajiggers as mainstream PCs, do you think there's any chance for people who cannot play games like these on PC to get access to mods? I mean, mods would be my fucking jam if I had any way at all to access them, and for these types of games, they give such an advantage over the console versions it's ridiculous.

:( Why aren't more console-owners-who-don't-have-gaming-PCs screaming at Sony and Microsoft about this?

Well, it's almost like a reimagining, with a bunch of the story concepts from 1&2... Except it's set in D.C. instead of California. I see New Vegas as the "actual" Fallout 3, hands down, and I hope beyond hope that sometime in the future Obsidian will be able to develop more games in that vein. Probably not New Vegas 2, but Fallout games that continue the stories of 1, 2 and NV in different areas and such...

I would very highly recommend getting the "Ultimate Edition". The add-ons are definitely worth the money at this point ('cause, in America at least, it'll only be like $30, with all of the add-ons - full original price: 60+15+15+15+15=$120, as I believe all of the add-ons were $15 each).
