What would your thoughts be on someone playing something non human? Such as a Wyld Fae or a Fae of the courts?

I'm open to the idea so long as there's a reasonable explanation for said character being in the group, and their about equal with the others as far as abilities go.

Glad to see not everyone's dead. Heh.

Considering that you haven't read as many of the books or know as much about the universe as some of us, I think a CoGM is a good idea. I'd jump for the position, but I believe that Tearstone probably knows far more than I.

Wyld Fae, Skin changers, and Vampires could be interesting ideas for non-human playables, it would certainly provide variety and make this possibly more than just a couple Wardens trying to track down a ThreeEye Ring in regards to further "episodes".

I would suggest that for whichever place we use though, we try and get ahold of a decent road map of the actual city. That way distances and times aren't pulled out of thin air and we can actually situate ourselves within a given framework of a world, but that's just an idea.

I'd be willing to join and help with this. I've read up through Turn Coat, just haven't had time to read Changes. (Which I understand to be a big book in the series.)

Also, if it would help, there is a Dresden table top rpg that might be a good place to look for some ideas.

Well, out of everyone, only two of us own it- that I know of. :| So it's not 100% viable for everyone, which was what we were trying to work around.

And I feel like I should point out I've read all the books, side stories, and graphic novels. So I'm pretty knowledgeable about the Dresdenverse. However I am running a few games at the moment, so I'm not going for the CO-GM spot. :\ But I am here for questions and verification.

lol No, I've read most of the books. It's just that I read them all awhile ago, in incorrect order, and don't remember much. The last one I read was Ghost story, and I'm currently on Proven Guilty. So after that one, all I need is cold days and skin games, and I'm up to date, unless you count the comics and Scify series. Anyhow, Does anyone want to put their hands in for the CoGM spot?
Yeah, I was thinking about that too, as far as playable characters, because at the most, I could see maybe two blown Wardens being involved. So maybe we'll have two wardens, one or two ThreeEye(ers,) and a couple other mythical beings. Maybe, aside from the threeEye addict, we'll be a sort of the rings type deal where, for political reasons, different groups sent in a different member to keep secure a certain city.
I'm still not sure about the city yet.

Yay! Another member. Welcome aboard, Gamer dude.
I got a hold of the Dresden table top Rp, thanks to Tearstone, but I haven't had a chance to look over everything yet.

Thank you for the help. I appreciate the offer, and the assistance :)

So, aside from the stuff in the PDF, which I'll be reading, hopefully sometime over the weekend, does anyone have any ideas, suggestions, advice, concerns that they'd like to add for this?

I think everything turns on when this is taking place. If it is current, then the war is a big issue. If its back at Storm Front, there is more wiggle room.

As far as villains go, the dresdenverse has so many groups, both good and evil, that I have lost count. But if it is the ThreeEyes we are talking about, the White Council, depending on the war, might not have the man power to deal with a single drug cartel.

The Blackened Denarius would be interested because if they dump a massive load in the city's water supply, well that is enough panic for them to feed off of.

We already mentioned that the draw for the Fae would be significant. Lets face it, what easier prey is there then someone who has no idea what is going on and the first thing you see is someone like Maeve.

I doubt the vampires want anything to do with it. I'm not sure how giving the sight to normal humans will help them with any of their agendas. But lets face it, Mavra is crazy.

The two others that might have stock in this are the Outsiders because yea, and the Dragons because they are the single most under used faction in the Dresden Files.

Having said all that, come on, there is no real good guy in the series, save for the Knights of the Cross. The White Council oversees all magic in the world but even they can't make a "good" decision without twisting it inside out.

The Drug though, that is an iffy thing. The drug does wear off, and it was the product of Nemesis playing with Victor Sells. So if the Council gets involved, chances are if a character takes it again after they have been warned not to, they are dead walking. So here is what I think, rather then having them take it again, just say that they have taken it a few times before anyone catches wind, but now these few are showing many of the characteristics of a Ley Line, turning them into founts of energy that anyone can tap into.

Lastly, I can see my self playing a junior member of The Wardens, or if the Blackened Denarius are involved I can play a member of the church.

I agree that dragons are under-used, but I'm not sure how they are organized or operate. The only ones I know of are Ferrovax and Sirriothrax, the latter of which was killed by Michael Carpenter. I think a Dragon would just be plot-device powerful... a GM's Player-be-good-stick to club people over the head with. Then again, history (if you base it off myth, lore, and legend) is full of dragons being taken out by even every day mortals. Know-how is a big part of it, so maybe they aren't that big of a blunt object.

The Outsiders could certainly play into things.

I agree that the White Council has its own corruption and problems, especially with Nemesis causing trouble there. I think in this particular scenario, as in present-day... it would put itself on the side to get rid of the ThreeEye again. There are better ways to amp up magical ability, without such hideous side-effects.

ThreeEye is kind of cornered on the market, and is being watched for. How about... a new drug. ThreeEye behaves pretty specifically, in what it does. That's usually one of the things about magic in general. Perhaps something new hitting the streets would be better. Something that gives people a supernatural high, and then thus amps up their energies. Evidence for this is seen in Fool Moon when Harry makes himself a potion to amp up, or refresh himself, like a Mana potion or something. It works great, and helps him a lot, but at the same time he blew through his refreshed energy very quickly, and it altered his judgement. For the average person, having a ton of life and magic jammed into them would be such a great feeling they wouldn't know what to do with it, and the high would last for hours or even days, and they would be a shining beacon. of energy, and probably delicious to darker things out there.

As Harry put it when talking to Bob, he wanted something like a good night's sleep in a bottle. It worked, really well... and it was almost like magical methamphetamine, with a very feel-good component. Another way to look at it is something like a magical energy shot, like 5 Hour Energy... only much more enhanced and longer-lasting. Focus, power, energy, will.. A lot of people could use it for a lot of things, good and bad, even without magical effects.

So, problem solved there.

The Wardens would definitely want to get involved. While this potion could be used recreationally and in a positive way... given over to darker, baser emotions, someone amped up on this stuff could manifest abilities, knocking out electronics, even creating bursts of energy and the like. If they figured out how to conduct rituals while on this, they could do some really undisciplined things. So then they start using it all the time and start learning magic but in a corrupt, twisted, unbalanced sort of way. Much like how Victor Sells was picking it up. Things could spiral out of control with this stuff, and it's addicting as hell. But it could instill and awaken real ability in others, which creates a whole new bag of worms for the Wardens to deal with. What do you do when you find one who's been using the Rise, and has the gift? That's probably going to depend on how, why, and what they've been using it for and with. It's going to require trials, much like when dealing with Lawbreakers.

This also means that the Wardens might get new fuel, and the ranks of the magical community swell again.

And if you want to be evil, perhaps a little seed of Nemesis could be carried in the potion. (I don't really like that idea, but it's a particularly evil idea that could be used. Maybe some of the potions have it, some dont, so there's a percentage chance of catching it...)

Just my unfinished/unpolished thoughts.

In regards to place, I personally would say that we shouldn't use an already established city in the Dresdenverse if we want to be creative. Sure, it'd be easy to make use one as a baseline, but I think it would be much more interesting to try and make something more original, build our own little piece of the universe within its parameters. A couple ideas could be from cities with histories of Supernatural activity of various sorts IRL. Savannah, Georgia is a big city with Ghost sites, Boston had its pre-colonial history of the Salem Witches along with other cases, or New Orleans has a thriving Vodoo and Witch Doctor Community. The point being that we could try to use pre-existing things in other cities to try and make them fit into the Dresdenverse. Just a thought.

We could also use Oklahoma City, which has always been a crossroads area, has a rich Native American history and set of traditions in the area. Its crossroads nature is especially true for the supernatural as well as a littoral sense. It's not as big as Chicago, but it's population is still well over a million people.

San Francisco is another good choice, but people might associate it with Charmed too much. Seatle could work, or Portland. Salem and Ipswitch I do like as possible locations.
