Sorry Hawk, I guess I never said Varus took his gift. My intention was to take it and put it under his arm to open later not to completely ignore it.

OK, with Ren's little description of gear I just want to bring a few things up to clear the air on what exists and what doesn't.

Lasers and plasma weapons are not a practical thing. They are far too big for any normal person to use. Ships can use them as ships are much bigger than people. My reason for doing this is to avoid pissing matches on how, "My disintegration rifle can melt through that 2 foot steel door."

So for those of you who know, think Mass Effect, clips, bullets, and no crazy laser guns.

As for special tech, this galaxy is still pretty young all things considered. We have holograms, but no hard light. Similarly, shields are in the same boat as lasers, the only thing that can count as a personal shield is the Guardian's kinetic shield, which is a force shield on the arm, think like a glowing and partly translucent square shield.

As for power armor, everybody has it, but there are three types. Guardian, which is basically a super suit, heavily armored, augmented joints and force to turn a strong man into a juggernaut. Then Utility armor, this is the kind of stuff engineers, technicians and medics use. It's light in the way of protection, but has plenty of slots, utilities, and sources to perform different tasks, like welding, healing, and hacking in the field. Finally, is combat armor, this is a sort of medium armor that focuses more on being combat effective, having more spaces for extra clips and a few little slots for a select groups of "combat powers" like ammo types and cloaking for the infiltrator.

Now to describe a bit on ammo types, this is more of a soldier thing, but a soldier and infiltrator have access to different types of ammo that can be changed on the fly, even without swapping clips. Just enter in a command into your gun's interface and enjoy the new type of round. Now each gun is change by the round as well. explosive rounds would drop the clip size, range, and rate of fire, but get... well... explosive-ness. The same goes for other guns as well, but not all. The Argent Dawns weapons are mostly compatible, but certain types are not. Your generic rifle is. But the special burst shotgun that fires riot or lethal rounds would not be.

Now this isn't law. A technician doesn't have to wear utility armor if the situation doesn't' call for it. And a Guardian doesn't need to wear power armor or use the kinetic shield. I'd recommend it, because why would you have picked the class otherwise? Still, it is not law and long as you say, "Hey I dawn combat armor even though I'm a medic." I'll simply say have fun sport.

Finally, any "special" tech that you want your character to have, run it by me first. Chances are I will say yes, but I need to know and think about what this world can have in it's existence.

If anybody has any questions or concerns PLEASE let me know. I need feedback to do this right.

Would you say a guardian using the forarm shield would be like the shields from army of 2 or gears of war, too clumsy for anything but a handgun side arm?

By the by With his chipper attitude and heavy armor, I'm almost imagining Maximilian like pinkiepie in spacemarine armor:

Oh no of course not, the shields are mounted so any normal gun could still be used. It's basically standard for all Guardian armor.

Also, that is freaking nightmare fuel right there... thanks you scum...

What are the measurements for the guardian shield, 3x3?

Your welcome, want some more?

Just a quick little poll: How many of the characters here would be the type to write down their usernames and passwords? Just a little something I am thinking of using later in the story.

if he couldn't keep it hackably simple he could remember, he would write it down. He would probably choose a long chemical or ore name he could remember just like hawaiian;s can write out humuhumunukunukuapua’a without problem. If it had to be alphanumeric with captol sensitivity then he would have chosen certain elements and atomic numbers.

Jack has a journal for stuff, but also has a good enough memory to remember them should she lose the physical copy.

Kinetic shield vary is size and shape, much like the armors they are attached to. They are generally pretty proportional to the wielder, so Max would probably have a 3x2 give or take. And it doesn't have to be a perfect polygon by the way.

Gloves, he is passing by and taking a quick peek through the door. Basically he is passing as he would as an intruder surreptitiously looking for access info. He never actually crosses the threshold.

I don't think Jack would have a journal of important information just chilling open. Where anybody wandering past could see, and same kinda thing goes for Max

Actually guys, just as an FYI here. The Argent Dawn treats it's crew well, meaning each member has their own room instead of bunks like most other military vessels. Varus will still refer to the rooms as bunks so try not to get confused. Similarly, while people have rooms, it is a military vessel, so the rooms are about the size of your average college dorm room. Containing only a bed and two lockers for storing personal stuff. No computers are standard, but can be put in if you want one, especially since they are much smaller in the future.

Each person would have a little computer to work at, not really a personal one unless your in a certain role, like Dres, Teeth, and Ren would have them as the Engineer, Medic, and Hacker. Otherwise computer stations exist on each deck so things could be ordered, searched, scanned, etc.

Just think how weird it would be if Varus asked Dresden to show him how to log tool usage and they had to go to her room. He'd probably be standing on a discarded bra because the room is so small, not exactly the most... Captain like thing.

So Ren, computers would not be in the rooms, but the passwords may, similarly Ren may want to check the computer stations. With so many computers in each station the crew has developed a connection to "their" computer as there are enough for everybody.

Also, check the desks... chances are they are there!

Finally just as another FYI, I really don't like doing this kind of thing to you guys, but this ship is kinda a strange thing to deal with as it's pre-made. S I ask that you guys could bear with me for a tiny bit more as this ship becomes more and more complete. Because after that, it's totally up for interpretation. Hell I hope you guys start making planet for me.

You'd be surprised how many times people will leave something like that in the open. When going through an office building and passing by the cubicles, 7 times out of 10 you'll see a note hung up with the person's username and password. Sadly this isn't even hyperbole. I've seen this sort of thing myself and have taken network security courses which touched on this vulnerability. Keeping their info safe is something most people dont give a second thought to unless something happened to make them be more wary.

I'm gonna interject my own personal stance on my character's habits and say Jackdaw pretty much keeps the journal hidden when she isn't actively using it. My bad, should have clarified.

Ah ok then. Will make a note of that in my post. Part of me wanted to see it out to use it as an example rather than embarrass Max.

Just as another form of FYI, we as players are not the only people on the ship. It has a crew of about 300-ish people, chances are, 60% of them have (space) sticky notes on their desks or computers or in their personal quarters. No need to reem a character out, most of the crew he could report.
