you are aware that nether manga or comic books follow that style of art right?

And why is that relevant?

They can both have people as subject matter. They can even be sequenced together to tell a story.

I'm guessing it's something like an incantation. You need to say the words.

the problem with that is that it is never specified if the attack requires the user to say the name of the technique. Like I don't think Goku ever really needed to say the kamehameha wave's name to use it since energy is not magic in DBZ and plenty of characters have used powerful energy blasts without saying a word. I feel like it is just used for being extra dramatic.

Then I added in the Freiza Saga with the Saiyan Saga. I was referencing when he blew up Namek. In the Cell Saga, I felt it was more to motivate his son. Either way, he still failed to kill Cell while he was alive. But he does still embody this idea even in the Saiyam saga. He didn't really "die" but was rendered paralyzed for the last part of the fight due to his spirit bomb. He couldn't do it himself thus had to give it to Krillian. After which, he was able to coordinate the final moments of the Saiyan saga telepathically. He didn't sacrifice himself that time, but his role as the "sole savior" if you will. He probably could have pushed himself, as it would be within his character, but he chose not to.

Frieza blew up Namek, not Goku, in case that was what you were implying. Goku also didn't intend to die in Cell Saga, not even Goku knew that it wouldn't see Cell destroyed once and for all. He did fail to kill Cell by himself, as you said.

The issue with Goku is that he wanted to stop being the one everyone had to count on to win, he wanted to let someone else have the role so he didn't have to be wished back time and time again. Gohan was entrusted with the role and A WILD BUU SAGA APPEARED! TORIYAMA USED 'GOKU MUST DO EVERYTHING!'. ITS SUPER EFFECTIVE!

I just fail to see how it is relevant to the whole art debate between comic books and manga.

Again, I point out that post-modern French Impressionism can fulfill the same roll - tell a story of people through art.

I thought this was a discussion of art though, I am now providing my believes that French Impressionism, specifically post modern is the most superior of them all.

in the end it all just comes down to taste, some people like Manga more, other people like comic books more, same goes for other forms of art. Art is art, it's all about preference.

No, for his end game in the Frieza Saga. He failed to actually kill Frieza even though that was one of his reasons for staying behind. *Should have put the name instead of "he" my bad*

Oh yeah, I understand that. Gohan was to be his successor. I just...pretend that the Buu Saga never happened. >:/ It and GT was all a hullucination by a hospitalized Gohan...shhhhhh, don't pop my "Denial Fantasy" Bubble.

*is also upset that there wasn't a goddamn female SSJ* Couldn't figure out how to draw them my ass...

Depends on the anime you are talking about. In most cases, it is a manga tradition so readers can understand what attack they are using. It is also something similar to when chess player call out their moves. You mostly see this in ki/energy based combat and card games. In a manga like...Claymore, I don't think they call out their attacks. In an anime context, certain moves are used as indicators so the shout out is for dramatic effect. Also...try to find a 20 year old person that has never heard of a Kamehameha wave. Hell, they may even act it out XD

still I think the shouting is unnecessary since there already are thought bubbles and internal monologues which tells the reader what is to come next. Like for example, Star Wars characters never shout the name of their force attacks despite how powerful they are, and Superman never says Heat Vision, he just uses it. Realistically, I don't think anyone would ever shout their attacks if they had special powers unless they were trying to be goofy or sound melodramatic. it just doesn't make sense in a dangerous situation, especially if you're fighting enemies that can move at insane speeds.

He wasn't and still isn't a CHARACTER.

Goku (the character people always pit against Superman) will always lose. That is what his adult character is meant to do though.

What? Okay.

Umm...that's wrong. Goku is meant to break his limits and push himself to the maximum. Which he did as a Super Saiyan and when he fought Vegeta for the first time. The whole was leading up to surpassing every Saiyan before him and becoming what they couldn't in so many years. His entire basis is drafted from the monkey king and inspiration from Superman in DBZ with his origins.

And yet...Gohan is STRONGER than Goku. It was the Buu saga that established the "Goku MUST BEAT EVERYONE BY GETTING STRONGER!" And, as it was said before, the Buu saga was crap. Most of the DBZ fan base disregards it along with GT. Goku had DB, DBZ was obviously Supposed to be Gohan's story and...then shit happened.

And I think you are confused. Yes, the Dragon Ball story may have started a similar early story...you know aside from Goku being very violent until he hits his head...but even then, it wasn't like Superman. Dragon Ball was also about a group of people joining together towards a common goal: to stop Piccolo. Then of course the Red Ribbon Army.

then again, we only were talking about DBZ....so...

Gohan was meant to be stronger then Goku during Cell Saga and Buu Saga. Fans ruined that and ruined it ending at Frieza saga with Goku as the hope of all saiyans. The Saiyan/Frieza Saga was not meant to be Gohan's shining momet. Buu saga has never been disregarded. It's a split more so. It's canon completely. It had moments such as Mystic Gohan, Vegito, Vegeta's Sacrifice, and Goku vs Vegeta fight.

DB was the Journey of the West story. DBZ is what took upon the Superman inspiration. The alien thing didn't exist until DBZ.

Idk, it just seems to be a trend in anime. Obviously it's tactically ridiculous, but hey it sure does add a nice touch sometimes. Plus, if your attack has a cool name, why not fucking yell it out as you use it, it sounds kinda cool. In fact I tend to have my characters not say the names of their techniques sometimes.

I honestly don't see the point of this whole discussion.
