Organization Name: Elysium Research Technologies
Science Marches OnOrganization Leader: Lorenzo Gallius, CEO
Important Figures: - Ritter – Director of Research
- Milus Sanguinus – Director of Security
- Mira Y’loar – Director of Operations
Organization Specialization:Biomedical Tech - Elysium Research Technologies is a company with many different interests, ranging into the field of Biomedical technology. ERT researches advancements in cybernetics, as well as life-preserving medical technologies that are commonplace within your average hospital or clinic. Of course, Elysium doesn’t merely research cybernetics! That’s too boring. Elysium also looks into genetic augmentation, as well as perfecting cloning on a grander scale.
Military Tech – On the flip-side, ERT does not profit solely from saving lives. They also specialize in finding new ways to end them. Assault rifles with less heat or recoil, sniper rifles with little-to-no sonic register, you name it ERT has probably worked on building it or improving upon it.
Organization Type: Unethical Research Company
Organization Income Source: ERT makes most of its money by peddling its wares to the various galactic governments and organizations, no matter how unethical or unsavory they may be. ERT specializes in one thing: Selling quality products to their customers. Whether it be assault rifles and armor to Batarians, or doing a…custom job for a particularly wealthy mercenary boss on his cybernetics, ERT will do it.
Legality: For most intents and purposes, ERT is a totally legitimate operation that develops technologies that are common place amongst the peoples of the galaxy as well as the more well-equipped arsenals of certain organizations, both legitimate and violently unsavory. If anyone were to look at their business practices outside of the idea of them bettering the lives of others or equipping military organizations, they are most certainly not an ethical, or really even legal, company.
Organization Base: Elysium Research Technologies has its corporate headquarters based on Earth, the primary functions of day-to-day operation of the company start here, at the corporate nerve center of ERT. However, the primary functions of research and development take place on the corporate playground of Noveria at Peak 24and Peak 13.
The ERT Corporate Headquarters on Earth is a 40-story skyscraper in Kansas City, the veritable center of what was the developing Silicon Prairie during the early 21st Century. ERT Corporate has an around-the-clock security detail, as well as a fully stocked armory in the event of an incursion in their general command space.
The Peak 24 biomedical facility has several labs that make up the facility, however, the entrance is a security checkpoint and deeper in comes the central hub, breaking off into the different labs. First and foremost is the Cybernetics Lab (CyberLab), constructed with the idea of building better cybernetic augments and implementing them in different simulated settings. There is also the Genetics Lab (GenLab), focusing primarily on gene therapy as well as human cloning, and finally there is the fledgling Element Zero Lab (ELab), focused on the development of biotic advancement. The Peak 24, like it’s counterpart Peak 13, has an armed security force as well as two armories, a main one for the security force and another for the civilians, should the need arise. Due to size constraints, the facility only contains LOKI and FENRIS mechanized combatants. It also has an independent power supply, and ample bunks for extended stays, as well as a medical clinic.
Meanwhile, the Peak 13 facility is constructed in much the same way, though it has a few more labs. Firstly is the Small Arms Lab (SALab), dedicated to one-man operated weapons, then the Armor Lab (ALab) though its function should be pretty apparent. Next comes the Advanced Warfare Tactical Development Team, a special division within the Warfare facility dedicated to the development, testing, and applied knowledge of Virtual Intelligences…though, rumor has it that an Artificial Intelligence could potentially become a reality in the frozen lands of Noveria. Finally, there is the Mechanized Warfare Development Team, a group utilized for developing mechanized war platforms for various purposes, such as anti-infantry and anti-material operations. Most notably, this venture is a joint project with Hahne-Kedar, though, it’s mostly Elysium doing the work with Hahne-Kedar observing the results.
Organization Assets: Elysium Research Technologies holds facilities across the galaxy. As previously mentioned, the company holds two facilities on Noveria, Peak 24 being primarily for biomedical technologies and Peak 13 being their primary weapons development facility. ERT also owns two primary manufacturing centers, one being their bio-med manufacturing center on Earth, the other being their military manufacturing center on Titan. Though, these facilities are relatively small in comparison to the facilities owned by companies such as Hahne-Kedar or Aldrin Labs, part of their contracts being that Elysium is allowed to use a portion of their manufacturing space.
Contractually, ERT holds business contracts with Hahne-Kedar, and Aldrin Labs as well as several pirate and slaver groups throughout the galaxy. The pirate and slaver groups usually supply ERT with their merchandise to test on at the facilities on Noveria. ERT also holds some more…discreet contracts with the Blue Suns and several groups in the Skyllian Verge, supplying cybernetics as well as arms and armor, and trading information on goings on within the Terminus Systems.
Speaking of the Terminus Systems, ERT has almost no holdings there; however, they have considered using their connection with the Blue Suns to justify making moves on a district or several for research and testing, given Omega’s laying out of Citadel Space. The Citadel, however, has not remained untouched by Elysium’s long touch. Elysium owns several clinics on the Citadel, under the subsidiary “Asclepius Labs”. Elysium also maintains several contracts with weapons and armor dealers in the Citadel, as well as C-sec.
Ship wise, Elysium maintains a private fleet of vessels, twenty light freighters and fifteen medium freighters, as well as another ten heavy freighters for cargo and security transport. Elysium also owns three refueling stations on Noveria, and two on Earth as well as Titan. For space-bound security, Elysium owns five squadrons of fighters, though, these fighters as well as their pilots usually only see action in the more dangerous parts of the galaxy, like the Terminus Systems or the Attican Traverse.
Finally, militarily, Elysium maintains a moderately sized well-trained force of security officers, most of them being human, though there are Turians, Asari, and the oddball Krogan amongst them. The main arm of the Elysium Security Force is the land and ship-bound security portion, numbering in at approximately 700 men and women, 100 each stationed at the two facilities on Noveria. The Noverian-centered forces are much more homogenous than those that you typically see, being totally human forces, all of whom are some of the most trusted members of the Elysium Security Department. The remainder of this force is stationed in smaller concentrations on the various ships that comprise Elysium’s shipping arm, with 50 of them stationed at each manufacturing facility on Earth and Titan, rounding out with another 65 at the corporate headquarters.
Elysium utilizes a synthetic portion of their security force, with mechanized units such as the LOKI and FENRIS being used on the Noveria facilities for investigations outside of the facilities, the YMIR mechanized unit being used in limited quantities at the manufacturing centers and corporate. VI-operated drones are also a common entity to see in Elysium facilities.
Organization Relations:- The Lonely Spacer: Elysium does not typically deal with information gathering agencies, as they are more than a little detrimental to Elysium, should their secrets get out. However, it is probable that the Information Gatherers have heard of Elysium, being a major medical technology producer.
- Halios Consortium: Elysium has most certainly heard of the Halios Consortium, the two of them being competitors in the fields of genetic research and biological augmentation/experimentation. Elysium and Halios have potentially encountered one another through their respective proxies, the Blue Suns and Eclipse.
- Riptide: Elysium has not heard much about Riptide, however, they have heard of them through their contacts in the Blue Suns.
- Bretin’s Raiders: The fine folks at Elysium have, more likely than not, encountered our friends in this little band of pirates. Elysium is, more often than not, searching for docile slaves to use in volatile research experiments, be they medical or military.
- More to come!
Organization History: Let’s set the stage, the year is 2130. We start in the United North American States, as these stories are often want to start, with a visionary. This man was known as Dr. Jonathan Tiller, founder of Elysium Research Technologies, naming it after some ancient myth for a paradise after death, except, that wasn’t Jonathan’s vision. He wanted there to be a paradise before people died, and thus he found the Elysium Biomedical Company, designing and manufacturing machines that allowed others to live on or survive unforeseen illnesses. Their cybernetics were primitive then, having not had the opportunity to confer with other species, however, I digress. Tiller and his relatively small team produced quality, if now primitive, cybernetics for those who had lost limbs.
For almost the next thirty years, Tiller and his team worked tirelessly, expanding Elysium at a rapid pace, going from a small two-story building in the seedier parts of Kansas City, to a modern glass facility in the Old Power & Light District. Of course, not all good things can go on forever. After twenty-six of running the company, Dr. Jonathan Tiller died of a brain aneurysm in his home, on June 6th, 2156. Within the next year, however, humanity would find that we were most certainly not alone. In 2157, humanity met the Turian Hierarchy on the field of battle, and it changed humanity forever.
At home, people clung together in fear as they watched on their vid-screens, hearing reports of alien attack and war raging on the colony of Shanxi. Harrison Renoir was the second CEO of the Elysium Biomedical Company, and looked into the eyes of an untapped market for Elysium: Military technology. He reasoned it well to the researchers when he brought in physicists who specialized in weaponry, and armor specialists. To this day, the recording of his speech to the researchers is recorded, “Dr. Jonathan Tiller, our late founder, dreamt of a paradise on Earth, and if he had known it, he would have extended that vision to the Galaxy. However, recent events have revealed the sad fact that to create that paradise; there may be a necessity to crush our enemies into the dust. Therefore, I have come to the conclusion that Elysium will now produce weapons technology, to honor this extension to our founder’s vision.”
Of course, Harrison was talking out of his ass. Tiller hated weapons, hated the mere thought that we could possibly need such barbaric tools, but with the death of Tiller still relatively fresh in the minds of the scientists, it was a relatively simple task for him to sickeningly twist and bend the words of the late, great, Jonathan Tiller. Thus, research into weapons and armor began in Elysium, no long Elysium Biomedical. Now, to signify their change in focus, they became Elysium Research Technologies. With weapons research came the instatement of the Security Department, and contact with alien research firms, not unlike Elysium.
From there, things started to take off. By 2160, Elysium constructed the Peak 24 biomedical facility on Noveria, 2163, the Peak 13 facility. Development continued along profitable lines for many years, a trend that has continued to this day in 2178. In the intermittent time, however, Elysium changed hands once more, coming under the leadership of Lorenzo Gallius in 2170, shortly after the fall of Mindoir. Gallius kicked Elysium into overdrive, delving deeper into more and more illegal and unethical practices on Noveria. Anything for progress became their motto.
In more recent years, Elysium has established a working relationship with the Blue Suns Mercenary Company, and several slaver factions within the Terminus systems. They have also established clinics on the citadel as well as Earth, in attempts to bolster their PR, meanwhile they continue to work in their labs, searching for a new breakthrough to put them in a comfortable position of power.
