Jackdaw looked to Taerys, surprised that she'd actually come down so fast. Tougher than she looked, but she knew that already. At least on the outside, the Varyx girl was hard to hurt.

She felt a bit of a bite when the other issued an order, even if it was a reasonable one. Jackdaw had just begun settling into a commanding role, even if it was only temporary. Her gaze went off into the distance, it wouldn't be hard to track down the general area Varus might have landed in, at least she didn't think so. Her grip on the rifle tightened, and the red eye of her helmet turned back on Taerys.

"Yes, we need to get moving, but we have orders. Ryder, you'll have to carry Hay unless he's capable of walking. Six, you'll go with them. Taerys," she said, pausing for a moment. "You actually have orders, you know your job. Do it. Rennac, you'll be with me, we're going to go find Varus."

Rennac looked up to see Taerys coming over once she recovered from the crash, crawling back out with a few computer chips and parts tucked away in a bag for later. If there was still interference they would need to make a distress beacon that could pierce the field and reach out to the Dawn. He listened intently to the orders, noting how each of them was assigned and making mental notes of possible scenarios most of which ended very badly. Oh how he wished nothing bad happened from here. He was about to ask what order Jackdaw was talking about when he remembered what little Varus said before he was pulled out of the ship. It made sense to him at least. If Varus was in the same condition they were in it would be more than likely he would want Taerys to be an advanced scout while he, Rennac, and Jackdaw caught up and met up with her at the colony. He drew a single pistol with the silencer attached and held his knife in his opposite hand in a reversed grip, pressing the handle of his dagger against the side of the grip on his pistol so he could switch between the two quickly. If something was capable of crippling their ship he knew not to underestimate it, particularly their enemy's skill at surprise. Least if something snuck up on him and he heard he could deal with a close range threat.

Six's brow furrowed under his mask. "What's a tech gonna do on a manhunt? Take me to find Varus, I've tracked before. He said himself, we haven't got any signals. Hay can hobble--Rennac can help him walk, and Ryder can guard them. We'll make a quicker team, get Varus faster, and get the group back together more quickly."

Rennac turned to Six, a bit conflicted on his idea but steeled himself. "Six, whatever caused the crash is clearly either tech which I'll need to disable ASAP or it is some kind of phenomena which we'll need to analyse with scanners and other tech I can scavenge along the way. Whats more once we reach the colony, assuming Varus is still in fighting shape and has no serious injuries, we'll more than likely need to hack their systems to get in. In that regard I have the most experience out of anyone in this group. I may be classified as a techie but I've also been on more infiltration teams than I can count. I've been able to take care of myself and do my job on each one. Besides, we need someone who knows how to track for the simple fact that you know the tricks to shake people off your trail. Hay wont be able to go too fast and Ryder will be easy to track with his heavy gear. You'e the only one here other than Varus, me, or Taerys who has any infiltration experience, much less tracking. Taerys was ordered on ahead to the city before Varus was ripped out of the ship, Varus is MIA, and I'm the best man for dealing with any technical problems along the way. Even if we did switch roles you would be delayed by any more complicated encryptions and I would be at a severe disadvantage without any tech around. Jack's plan has each team working at top effectiveness while minimizing risk to everyone involved overall."

Jackdaw didn't much like that Rennac was having to explain her plan to Six. Even if the infiltrator had made a good point, it was lost to her. Her brow furrowed, but it was beneath the layers of metal, and so Six was met with the blank, red-eyed gaze. Once Rennac had finished, she didn't waste a long-winded explanation. Already she felt she'd said too much, wasted too much breath with words.

"Enough. You have my orders," she said, looking back out to the distance.

"Guys, I know I'm not really a team member here, I was just going to drop you guys off, but we really need to do something. I think we need to find Varus. Time is of the essence and I think I'm the only one who knows how to heal him if he's hurt. Ryder would need to carry me and the supplies. And we need somebody to see if we have a place to go. The colony sounds like our best bet, but we don't know if it's safe. If it's dangerous we would need somebody who can fight or be stealthy. I think Six and Tearys should go. The rest of us can search for Varus. If the colony looks save, come and help us look. But we need to move now." Hay said , finishing by pointing to the falling sun. Clearly night time was about to fall and whatever advantages they had, would be gone then.

Ryder, let out a low moan, much like a whale's call and began to move away to a nearby hill, looking around for any sign of Varus, but only saw a trail of gouged land and scraps of metal littering the area.

Six backed off a step, lifting his hands in a placating gesture, feeling a bit of heat at the back of his neck. When it was just him and Hark, things were so much easier--just get their job done and go home. He couldn't think of a time they'd contested on how to handle things; ever since their first meeting they'd been completely in sync, in every aspect of their lives.

Hay spoke up, and Six cocked his head. "What? Jackdaw's plan sounds fine--if Varus is hurt, he'll have to deal with it. He's our leader, but we can function fine without him, and I certainly don't think he'd want us all halting the mission just to go look for him. Two people can get him and catch up plenty quickly, and then we won't all have to sacrifice time trying to track him down." As far as Six knew, pilots didn't have much authority here, especially against a seasoned soldier.

Great, now the pilot was a strategist. If looks could kill, Hay would have a sheathed blade at his throat when he finished speaking. If she'd known he was going to challenge her, she may have had half a mind to leave him in the cockpit.

She let Six speak, fine to hear her own plans backed, but regardless they were wearing on her nerves.

"Shut it, both of you. I won't have a pilot undercutting my authority. Just keep quiet, remember your place. Rennac and I will go find Varus. The rest of you will follow after Taerys, once she scouts out the colony. That's an order.",

Hay let his head down. He knew he was out ranked and his idea was more for his safety than a tactically sound one. Hell, he hadn't even seen the planet's layout to be honest, but with all this fighting, his voice was out, but something had to be done.

Ryder meanwhile, being a simpler man, wandered off a bit farther, still looking and glancing for anything, and when he looked over a second hill, he let out another moaning sound, like a louder whale's call. Pointing over the hill at the colony. It wasn't too far away, maybe a mile or two and they knew where it was. Still no sign of Varus though.

Rennac rubbed the back of his neck in discomfort, not liking the tension rising in the air. He didn't like how an elite team were at eachother's throats and simply inched away toward where he would be heading anyway to search for Varus. To be honest he was slowly getting to be disappointed with this group, considering they could barely even form a plan without fighting amongst themselves. He was strongly considering transferring back to Black ops at the moment, knowing they at least knew to get their shit together. Sure, he would still do the job and maybe get their trust, but to be brutally honest he wasn't going to rely on them until they actually started to act like the elite team they were supposed to be.

Orders had been given to her by Varus, Taerys could accept that much from Jackdaw, and she knew that Varus would expect her to remain on track with the mission whatever the circumstances. These were some pretty special circumstances, though. Regardless, she was the only one aside from Six who could really do the job and she didn't want Six doing something like this on his first mission. It'd be close-quarters once she got the the settlement; it was perfect for her in that sense.

"Once I get inside and have a look around, I'll call you all in. Until then I'm turning my comms off to everyone. If I don't respond within 2 hours then..." She trailed off, shrugging a little. "Well, you know that means." Taerys remarked casually. Without further ado, the Varyx turned and broke into a light jog, leaving the rest of the group behind. They were further out from the walls than they planned to be, but she'd make up that time. She had to.

Jackdaw didn't know what to think for a few moments. Taerys had responded positively, which was...unexpected. The lack of conflict brought her back to the present, where she was simply standing still, staring after the Varyx as she ran off, like a statue.

With a slight huff that was suffocated beneath her helmet, she turned and started off in the opposite direction. The ship had made something of a skid in the earth, and there was, as Ryder had seen, wreckage scattered about. It was as good a place to start as any, and if Varus was alive, they needed to find him and get on with the mission. She let out a whistle again, and motioned for Rennac to follow, though she didn't turn to check.

Six gave a nod to Taerys--he understood her wanting to do this on her own. Something just to get a look around, that was better suited for one person. Even with Hark, they'd periodically split up just for that reason--Six was a good bit smaller than his partner, easier to slip through cracks and corridors with just himself.

He motioned a wave towards Ryder and Hay. "We should follow her from a ways back--not all the way until she gives the word, but get out of the open."

Rennac looked to Jack as they seemed to (finally) get going on the mission. He was glad that they had started to get their shit together at least. Be held his pistol up and his knife in hand, ready for any surprises as he quickly made his way to the different pieces of wreckage and took a quick check at each spot that seemed likely to have Varus behind it. He also kept an eye out for large dirt mounds where he could have been buried in the crash. He wasn't gonna lie, he wasn't sure what kind of shape they'd find the captain or even if they'd find him in one piece. Only consolation was that the others couldn't blame him for their captain's death, least not if they had half a brain. He quickly got to Jackdaw and ran beside her. "Jackdaw, are your sensors picking up any signs? Your circuits are not like a standard wrist computer so you may have better luck in searching with them than the rest of us would."

She did much like Rennac was doing; checking wreckage, looking for any mounds that may contain a buried man. It was a cold realization that swept over her that Varus may in fact be dead. It wasn't pity, why would she pity him? She was his captain, yes, and he leveled with her on many things, but it wasn't like she would have lost a close friend. She didn't have those, so what would that make Varus? Not simply a teammate; Taerys was a teammate, and aside from the ridiculous pangs of sympathy she'd felt before, she was not very fond of the Varyx. It would take contemplation, which she wasn't too excited for, but that would wait.

Rennac came up beside her, and she broke concentration for a moment to listen. "I'm designed mainly for low-orbit emergency drops, my sensors are standard. But I've been looking regardless," she said.

Jackdaw placed a foot on one particularly long piece of scrap, and the claws at the bottom of her boot dug into it, and she dragged it back towards her onto the ground with a hollow crash. Nothing behind it. Disappointing. She looked around again, trying to spot anything else in the immediate vicinity, be it a whole captain or mere pieces.

"I don't see anything here, let's keep going."

Rennac was more referring to how since they were integrated with her body whatever was causing the interference may not affect her sensors as adversely, though put the thought out of mind for now. He continued the search, looking under piece of wreckage after piece of wreckage. An idea suddenly dawned on him as he pulled up another piece of scrap. "Jack, Varus may be better off than we suspect. If he was able to get out of the seat and roll with the landing he could have gotten off with only minor injuries and went to cover while we were situating ourselves before. If you dont mind the suggestion, we could search from opposite sides of the rut made by the crash, looking from both sides for any sign of Varus in the wreckage while also keeping our eyes peeled for signs he had left and headed toward the colony or to find cover. Besides, if it turns out he did and we passed his trail then we will need to double back and spend time finding where he went." His opinion may not matter to them too much but he knew they had to take in any possibility.

Jackdaw listened, though she continued walking, turning over another piece, and another to delay her original course. When Rennac had finished, she gave a swift kick to a piece of scrap and sent it skittering away, before turning to him.

"You talk like a manual," she said flatly. Never thought she'd be suggesting someone else loosen up on a mission, but she wasn't sure if the guy was just stiff, or nervous. "But fine, let's go. If you're right, better off for all of us."

She turned about and then began for the other side of the long crater.

Rennac chuckled at the comparison, looking ahead. "Heh. Guess when you spend most of your time reading tech manuals to stay up to date on hacking, you sometimes end up talking like one. I'll lend you one for some armor augments once we get back from this." It was not so much the offer of the manual he wanted to convey, but the fact that they WOULD get out of this alive. He knew sometimes in a stressful situation like this it was best to help keep their spirits up and reassure them. Still, it would let them cover the crash zone from the best angles while also allowing them to check and see if Varus had already gotten up and left the area.

She clambered up one of the more highly stacked mounds of dirt, looking around from there. She had half a mind to yell out for Varus, but her throat closed up. It seemed to desperate, as strange as it sounded, and she wouldn't have defended the preference if called out on it. But still, she didn't shout, she just observed.

For a few moments, she had half a mind to talk to the man. Partly to cover up the not-shouting thing, as minor as that was, and partly because as every second passed, the possibility of her having to take charge grew. At least in her mind it did. And if she had to be in charge, she'd have to form some sort of connection with the others. Out of the people currently with them, she knew two well; Ryder -and that was a stretch-, and Varus. Six was as good a stranger as Rennac, even though he'd been there longer. Taerys was a different ball game, but that didn't matter either. Right now she had an opportunity to start setting a foundation, and if she didn't take it, she'd be making a mistake. Didn't mean she had to like it exactly, but still.

"Tell me why you joined the Dawn," she said more than asked, as if it were an attempt at inquiring about him. "If you get preachy, I'm shooting you."
