Warning! Misleading Opening! Kurumi Tokisaki will not actually be featured in this roleplay!
Greetings everyone!
As you may have gussed from the title, this will be a roleplay dealing with and centered around the world, setting and overall universe of the Date A Live-series.To make the setting usable for an RP; we've decided that this story in particular takes place in an alternate version of the DAL-universe, a version of the world where canon characters like Shidou, Tohka and Origami don't exist. This naturally means that Ratatoskr, the organization seeking to seal away the destructive powers of Spirits, have been forced to find another way to do so, rather than relying on their trademark, plot-armor protagonist.
Other differences also include that AST - the Anti-Spirit Team, were never bought pp by DEM - Deus-Ex Machina Industries, and thus still remains as a part of the JSDF. To add a slight twist to things though, another group has recently emerged - calling themselves COA, or the Council of Ascension - a group that seems to share similar goals and intents as Ratatoskr, though trying to do so without the whole sealing away of spiritual powers. These groups, along with the Spirits who periodically appear, will all meet, fight and exist in the same city as the original series takes place in. Thus you will find locations like Raizen Academy and other canon locations, we've just removed any and all plot-relevant characters.
Moving on though, you're probably more interested in how this all affects you! Not to worry, for all will be explained. For now, know that you can play the part of either a member of Ratatoskr, an AST agent or a spirit. Now, for the last part there, I would like to stress that we'll be putting a limit on how many people can play as spirits. We're doing this so that not everyone ends up playing as one and we end up with a scenario where we just have a bunch of super-powerful extra-dimensional phantom-demi-goddesses, flying around and blowing each other - and the world - up and into pieces.
What is the overarching plot though? Why should you join? What's going to happen? Well, the story will be divided into chapters, or arcs, that each deal with different things. Each faction also has their own goal and set, primary objective - like AST wanting to kill all Spirits while Ratatoskr wants to seal their powers and let them live normally as faux-humans. Players of different groups and factions will not only try to pursue their primary objective, but also try to undermine and hinder the efforts of their enemies. In addition to this, big baddies and a 'final boss-like chapter" will occur at the end, where all your scheming, saboteuring and other actions will come into play.
If this sounds at all appealing, to you please feel free to drop a comment with your interest! If you've got questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer!
Hope to see you soon!
F.A.Q.
Q: So, if there's no Shidou, does that mean that you, or one of us players, will be taking that role?
A: No. There is no Shidou, and there will be no Shidou. We removed Shidou [u]explicitly[/i] because we didn't want the story to enter around one person's character.
Q: There's a lot of girls in DAL... I don't like playing girls... Can I play a Male Spirit?
A: Short answer? No. Long answer: If you're familiar with the setting and series, ytou should know better than to ask this. If you want to play a male, your best bet is to play as a member of Ratatoskr.
Q: Wait? No guys!? So this is just some Yuri-fanfest!?
A: A character's gender shouldn't determine how good or interesting that character is. We went with this decision to keep the feel and theme of the setting. If you don't like, well, tough biscuits I guess? :<
Q: Can we play as or join DEM, or this new COA-thing?
A: We decided that DEM will be one oif the big baddies and as such, we're not going to let you join them. There will be enough fighting and quarreling without some of you turning into mini-bosses and main antagonists. For similar reasons, you cannot join COA either. Sorries to all the folks who wanted to play stereotype-villains. :<
Q: So, we can't date the Spirit girls in this?
A: Who said that!? Of courser you can, in fact, I encourage you lot trying to romance the spirits - and each other! If you didn't, all we'd do is blow shut up, and as fun as that may be at first, you need variety to keep things interesting. Plus, love-traingles, jealousy and stalkerism are all fun little things, no? :3
Q: So, if there's no Kurumi, Kotori or Diva, does that mena we can use their code names and powers?
A: For obvious balancing issues, you may not. Well, you might be allowed to use Kotori's fire-power, but things like manipulating Time, Space, Mind Control and causing Instant Death are all off the table. We're removing certain powers simply because they'd be incredibly hard to balance or just outright unfair. That said, this doesn't mean they won't exist in the story, it just means you lot won't get to use them yourselves... >:)
Q: How many spirits will you allow? You said there'd be a limit!
A: It depends on how many people that join - the more people, the more spirits we can have. For the moment though, we've set the hard-cap to three. This number may change depending on how many peope that joins though, so be warned.
Q: I wanna reserve the spot of a spirit then! Can I?
A: Nope. It'll be first come, first serve - to keep things fair.
Q: If we play as AST-agents, can we use things like White Licorice?
A: Yes. Why wouldn't you? It's part of their armory after all.
Q: I've found a major problem! HOw are you going to deal with fights? I mean, in the series, AST usually only fought one Spirit at a time! But if you have three of them, what are they supposed to do when a Spacequake is announced? Just sit at the sidelines and wait!?
A: How perceptive of you. Yes, this is a major issue that could cause severe boredom for those players who won't participate in a fight - as they'll be locked down in the underground shelters and not have much to do other than, y'know, interact and converse with each other, build relations and what not. In order to let everyone join in on the action, whenever there is any, if any additional Spirits join in on a fight, AST or DEM will dispatch extra (read: NPC) units to try and deal with them.
Q: Spacequakes? Does that mean if we play Spirits, we have to return to the Spirit world and not do anything for long periods of time?
A: No. As proven with Kurumi, Kotori and Miku, as well as the Yamai Sisters, there are spirits who can stay in the human world seemingly indefinetly. So don't worry, you won't have to go back to the dark place and 'sleep' unless you want to.
Q: Can we have multiple characters?
A: At the moment, you may make up to two characters. However, you may not make two characters of the same group - as in, you can't have both your characters be part of AST or both work for Ratatoskr. You may also not use one of the characters to exploit and give the other side leverage/unfair advantages by purposefully playing or doing things that would tip the scales one way or the other. Not that I think anyone would do this, but if you thought to make something like a double-agent or something, then forget about it. Everyone has to be true to their faction, at least for now. :p
