If you aren't a recognizable spam regular and/or don't know me, you will not be able to join this game.

Alright, so talking to Derv got me in the mood to run a new iteration of doodlequest. This time around I'll be running things a bit more like a RPG-campaign in that I won't be just writing in countless random players as the game goes on (Which I figure was a large amount of my workload back in previous games), but instead will be looking for a group of 3-5 trustworthy players at the start and won't accept new player outside of special cases. If I get more than five trustworthy players, I'll make a waiting list; if I can't get at least three, then we'll just let this thing die.

Doodlequest is a play-by-post game that plays out a lot like tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons; with the main differences from DnD being that it uses a special stats/dice-rolling system that I invented for it and that I regularly draw doodles of the characters' actions as the game progresses.

Not going to start with character creation or anything just yet, so if you want to join simply post your interest in this thread.

Dervish will automatically have a spot if he wants to join.
Previous doodlequest/the game players who played well (I can think of Squee and Svenn off the top of my head) will have priority over others.
Otherwise it will just be first come first serve with the people I feel are most likely to stick to the game getting picked.

Soon I'll be posting a little questionnaire to help decide which setting we'll be using and how I will run the game, serious players should post their preferences for this.

Best news I heard all day, even with Wolf Among Us episode 2 coming up today.

I still cast my vote for the Post-Apocalypse theme.

Also, keep the cat character design. That was hilarious.

All right, I have some questions for possible players to help me decide on how I should run this game.

Which setting should I use?

1. Standard Doodlequest: A multiverse fantasy/steampunk setting with strong ties to DnD. Players can create their own races to play as (EG: civil bears, tentacle beasts, ect) and will adventure through a massive realm with a lot of crazy stuff going on.

2. Doodlequest, Dark Skies: A post-apocalyptic setting that I almost ran before but never got off the ground. A cataclysmic event long ago left the skies filled with irradiated ash and much of the planet (Not Earth) flooded with toxic water. Players will mostly be human, with the possibility of some strange mutations. This game would have a lot less carefree questing and a lot more struggling just to survive.

3. Doodlequest, The Game: An adventure set in the universe of "The Game", another PBP game a ran back on the old-guild. This universe is separated into "levels" which can vary between sci-fi and fantasy themes. Each level has its own special goal that the players must figure out and complete to move on to the next. Players would be able to create their own races, but would have to stick to humanoid races.

How should I run the game, story wise?

1. Campaign Game: How most DnD games are run, there will be a main quest, an ultimate goal that will lead the PCs on an epic adventure across the realm. In this sort of game the players will be expected to stick together for the most part (Don't split the party!) and will be a bit more constricted as to what they are able to do (Gotta keep the story rolling)

2. Sandbox Game: How I've run doodlequest games so far. Players can go and do whatever they want, even split up if they wish. There won't be any ultimate story to be told in the game, the closest thing we might get to that is if you get drawn into a particularly long questline or join some faction.

How should combat go

1. Simple Combat: Similar to the combat of Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. This is how I've run previous doodlequest games. The player just have to choose how they will attack or what items they'll use or whether they will defend or run away, and won't have to worry about their characters' positions or ranges of attack. This type of combat will be quicker and simpler.

2. Tactical Combat: Similar to DnD or Fire Emblem. There'll be an overhead battle-map drawn out which the combatants will move about through. There will be a lot more to think about and a lot more strategy involved in this sort of combat, and it will likely take longer.

IDK, the cats seem like a bit more trouble then they are worth and also limit people's freedom in character creation, so I thought about just doing humans and allowing the possibility for mutations.

But maybe I could keep the the cats, maybe have both humans and cats living together with some other races as well...

Will have to decide.

Don't know how busy you are but doodlequest doesn't require a whole lot of effort to play.

I'm not experienced at stat based games. Idk really how it all works. I've had a few people explain but I'm retarded at that stuff.

You don't have to bother with the stats for the most part, I do most everything on the side. The systems I use in doodlequest I create myself and generally make them to be very simple and easy to understand. Really all you'll have to keep up with is your character's health and keep a general idea of what your character is good at. Playing this really doesn't take any more number-crunching than it would take to play final fantasy or similar games, and if you're willing to try I would be willing to work with you.

No, I think I only joined the apocalypse game. There may have been another one but I don't remember dropping out.

Which setting should I use?

2. Doodlequest, Dark Skies: I've voiced my interest in this, and if Jansen's character sheets and stats are still kicking around, I'm totally for it. :D

How should I run the game, story wise?

2. Sandbox Game: Dark Skies kind of goes well with the sandbox. After all, it's a survival thing, so working together to survive a world we don't know what's in store is kind of super appealing. I'm sure our own personal plot will arise from this, anyways!

How should combat go

1. Simple Combat: Keeps the pace moving up; will prevent complications and the scene from being locked down in the same scene for ungodly amounts of time. I think the simplicity of previous doodlequests kept things fun and moving along.

You know you can count on trusting in me mbl... If it's not too late that is...

Also....

1-- I like your fantasy game, but anyone would be awesome xD
( I also like that Game idea too)

2 -- Play how you've always played them dude... I loved them because of how they played xD

1-- Same reason as the one above...

Hecka yes. As for the questions;

1. Standard first choice, then The Game.
2. Campaign
3. Simple

That all said, though, I don't really have any strong preferences. Whatever everyone else likes is fine by me.

Derv, Idle, Drakel, and Sinrus have all be accepted in. Nat and K-97, if you want to be considered further answer those questions I posted.

I'll see about getting a game thread set up in the tabletop forum so we can get started with character creation and other prep work.
