What do I do? What can I do?

Mayumi continued to watch, helpless, as the girl finally summoned her angel and brought her weapon to Suichi's neck. Kasumi was screaming at her to get away from them but... she... she couldn't abandon him. She felt like she needed to stay, but what could she do if she stayed? It was all overwhelming her and she just wanted it all to go away.

God, she hasn't felt this helpless since...

Since...

S...i...n...c...e...

......

.....

....

...

..

.

Yo. Long time no see.

You were doing really well. I saw. It's frustrating, isn't it?

...Don't worry. I'll handle it from here.

For now, you just calm down and take a break.

.

..

...

....

.....

......

"Man, this is really annoying," Mayumi said, suddenly standing up and stretching.

"Hey, girl," this time towards the Spirit. "You seem to be awfully obsessed with the end. You keep on and on about death and stuff. About fate and shit."

There was no bubbliness in her voice anymore, and any uncertainty or helplessness she might have shown before was now gone.

"But you know, the end isn't everything. Of course everyone dies eventually, but why are you focusing on such a small aspect of someone's life? Why does the certainty of death mean the absolute disregard of everything else?"

She then gently chopped Suichi on the head.

"And you, boy, where did that come from all of a sudden?" she asked, obviously about his offer of a date.

"Man, this is some shit. I think everyone just needs to calm down, talk to each other, and think through things. Without waving weapons around."

"A....date?"

The unthinkable happened. The Spacequake actually ceased its blaring noise until it dissolved into nothingness. Reika had been so startled by the sudden offer that she rested her hand down to her side and titled her head, eyes wide with curiosity. "What is a...date?" A sudden sensation of fur nudged her leg, and the pale girl looked down to see a cat purring next to her limb. Confused by all of this, Reika soon realized that the animal was displaying signs of affection towards her. Noting this and fabricating an appropriate reaction, the Spirit bent down to pet the small creature. Indeed, it would seem all was well with the world again.

But life is never that simple, is it? And some conflicts cannot simply be avoided on a whim. Reika blinked and stood upright when she heard a new voice...no, it was familiar but...different? It sounded different...Reika saw the woman from before walk up and begin to speak to her and the boy. But something was wrong...she wasn't cheerful anymore...and then the Spirit focused in on her words.

Why? The question was like a bullet to the chest. Why was she obsessed with the loss of a life? Because she had nothing else...because she had no other purpose without death. That's what she wanted to say to the woman...but Reika knew she would not understand. No human would understand that for her, death was her entire existence...and to be questioned on it was to be insulted.

A situation that could have been devoid of all violence had now just escalated into a killzone as the Spirit known as Reaper frowned at Mayumi, the barest sliver of anger seen in her red eyes.

"Do not...insult me! You shall be judged!"

Reika raised her hand again, and this time the Spacequake alarms became louder than before.

Suichiro was completely focused on the Spirit's reaction. She seemed to calm down, the spacequake alarms had gone off. He felt a bit of relief that Whisker received affection and smiled as the cat purred in response to getting pet. Things seemed alright and Suichi was about to explain what a date was when Mayumi came up and began to speak in a very direct fashion. Instantly he had a bad feeling, and then she bopped him on the head. He responded with a look that expressed confusion.

Whisker walked around to stand behind Suichi in an act of self-preservation. The alarms were blaring again, and this time he was certain that they could never be louder. He saw the scythe rise into the air, poised to strike at Mayumi. Suichi had to do something to stop this. He had to. He instinctively got between Mayumi and the Spirit and maintained eye contact with the Spirit. His expression was soft and concerned. However, his emotions were a storm. He didn't want to die, but he didn't want anyone to get hurt. "Please don't kill, Mayumi when she has so much life left to live! She's truly the most colorful person I've ever met. She's friendly and caring! She would never truly mean to hurt anyone's feelings. She's the best hugger I know. I'm sure that if you got to know her you'd realize that killing her now would make the world a worse place!"

He got onto his knees to express his sincerity. "Please, if you're to kill anyone then take my life." What am I saying?! "No one should have to die before their time."

Kouhime leaned backwards on the bench she'd plopped herself down on.

In all honesty she didn't really care for the shelters; there was nothing to do while waiting for the incident to pass. It didn't really matter much to her--after all, she always had her music--but it would be nice if she could at least do something else.

What did really bother her, however, was that girl. She was a Spirit. One that had no qualms, apparently, about causing a spacequake whenever she wanted. She sneered, and her eyes narrowed.

She hated them.

Sure she was a Spirit herself, but she tried to keep her power use to a minimum. That meant no one had to get seriously hurt. And that girl didn't even think about it.

That girl didn't even care.
"Oy, boy. What are you doing." Mayumi asked, with a completely flat tone of voice.

And then, a very slight smirk appeared on her face.

"I didn't peg you for the begging type! Man, maybe she was wrong about you after all!"

She then turned to the girl, her expressing returning to its flat neutrality.

"Oy, girl. I'm not sure what I did to insult you... well, of course I wouldn't. But like, I'm sorry, yeah? This girl, she... she'd be sad if she saw you got mad 'cause of me, so."

Mayumi shuffled on her feet.

"As much this boy cowers, he has a point. No one has to die before their time. I'm still up for just... taking it easy, you know? I'm not sure why we need to get all excited about this but... I don't want this girl to be sad..."

And just for a moment, a flash of remorse showed on her face.

"Ever again..."

Walking around the small shelter, Yoshkuni couldn't help but feel a little bored. She wanted to do more than just sit around in safety, but at the same time, she knew that doing so will only mean trouble for her later on. Sighing, she looked around, wondering if that boy, Suichi, had gotten here or to another safe are, but she couldn't see him anywhere near her.

She suddenly spotted someone who did look a bit familiar. The girl from earlier that was with the earpieces. Yoshikuni took a bit of her time reaching her, trying to see if she will move away or such. Sitting down next to her, she let out another sigh "Those spacequakes sure are annoying, arent they? Real party poopers. It seems like everytime something good is going on there has to be one, doesn't it?" she said to Kouhime, shaking her head a bit in disappointment. She was slightly curious as to who was the spirit outside making all the racket, but at the same time, she wanted to teach the other spirit a lesson on doing things on better times.
AST Barracks

"Where is Kyoko-san..." an AST agent muttered to Chou, who merely responded with a shrug. They were all set for departure and waited for Kyoko's and a couple of others who were late, and this made Chou be a bit annoyed. There was a spirit attacking the city, and those girls were taking their fancy time arriving here and getting ready. That was not okay in her eyes.

Moving to lean against a wall, she hoped that the other girls will arrive there as quickly as possible, as it did not seem reasonable for her that they would be late at all. With the spacequake alarm going on, then off for a moment, and then on again in an even large noise, it was clear that they would be dealing with a spirit that isn't stable. So far there has been no reports of a spacequake, but there has been reports of the girl who most likely caused this. It became certain they were dealing with Reaper the moment the girl had her scythe out. This made Chou want to go even more eagerly, as it was a spirit that believed everyone should die.

After a couple more minutes and not willing to wait any longer, Chou moved to stand next to her commander "Ma'am, I think we should depart as quickly as possible. The girls who are not here yet can join us as soon as they are ready, but the spirit will not be waiting for us all day." She said in a slightly worried tone

"I hate them," Kouhime replied bluntly, the irritation showing on her features.

"They think they rule the world. They do whatever they want, and they don't even care about who they're hurting, or what kind of damage they've caused, and they walk around like they're such hot shit!"

She slammed her fist into the seat as she finished her sentence, and small chips of paint from the seat chipped off.

"I hate them," she repeated, quieter this time.

She took a breath in an attempt to calm herself down.

"They cause too much trouble."

So much information....so many options and decisions and choices and outcomes and possibilities and-Reika hated it. Hated it all. As the boy bent down to plead to her in sparing the woman, the woman herself came up to her and began speaking in strange tones. Her? Was the woman two separate people now? Was it...but how...what? Reika wanted to lash out. To kill these two right here and now and just end all this confusion that made her head hurt so much! And why did it hurt? Death wasn't supposed to hurt you! Death was painless! Death was deliverance! Death was...was...all she had.

"I...don't understand."

Putting her hand down for the second time that day, the Spacequake alarms came to a slow crawl and then eventual end as Reaper canceled out her power. She reared back and violently plunged her black scythe into the ground, dangerously close to the begging boy. Reika looked at them both now, with blank unmoving eyes that did not blink. A constant phrase repeated from her voice that would not be stopped.

"I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand. I don't understand."

There would be no death by Spacequeake on this day. No...no whatever happened next, Reika would end it with her own blade.

"That's okay."

That's all Mayumi said next.

"It's okay if you don't understand. There are many things we don't understand. But that's okay."

Mayumi, for the first time since the... change, smiled. It was a warm gentle smile, a smile that looked like it hadn't been used in a while, but still, gentle and warm.

"We'll help you. If there's something that you don't understand, we'll help you understand it. If it's something we don't understand, we'll figure it out together. If you'll let us, we'll help you."

She moved forward, while at the same time softly kicking at the boy kneeling beside her. Get up, stand straight, put your talking face on. That's what the kick said. It's down to the wire. That's what the kick said.

"That's what friends are for. Do you want to be our friend?"

She held out her open hand, towards the girl.

Now or never. If she failed, she'd probably lose her hand.

Don't fail.

Suichi relaxed a little as Mayumi lightens up with a warm smile and smiled in response. He his smile turned into a grin when he received a gentle kick from her and stood up. He looked at the poor confused girl and extended his hand towards her. "That's right. We can be good friends from now on and forever. Life can be confusing, but it's worth living. I'm Hamani Suichiro, but you can call me Suichi. This is Inoue Mayumi, my friend and partner."

He kept a calm friendly tone. "I do hope we can become friends."
Kyoko finally finished suiting up and rushed to where the others were standing in formations. Chou one of the girls she worked with was speaking with the commander, but Kyoko's panting prevented her from hearing. "Maya Kyoko reporting for duty!" She had trouble keeping her voice in control as she had practically sprinted the entire distance and rushed her putting on of her gear as quickly as possible. "I apologize for being late, I just got here from the area of the incident. She's at the park. Where the concert was."

She felt a bit stupid saying that, because it was likely they already knew, but she was a bit worn out from the run and kept her mouth running.

But... Just then.

"Suichiro! Mayumi! Get away from there, NOW!" The usually calm and business-like Commander yelled at them in a slightly odd mixture of panic and concern.

Her sudden outburst was not out of worry for their safety alongside the Spirit, but rather the swiftly approaching squadron of AST operatives who were quite frankly mere moments away from the site. With the Spirit having her weapon out it would be safe to assume that the AST were going to open fire upon their target as soon as she came within visual range - and while this would likely not do much to harm the Spirit, bullets had a nasty habit of being detrimental to regular human beings' longevity. Or, in other words, Mayumi and Suichiro were currently at risk of turning into swiss cheese with how they were in such close proximity to the would-soon-be-target of gunfire.

"We'll be transporting you on board our ship, so hurry up and get away from there!" Kasumi repeated her order.

While it was true that Ratatoskr's ideal and main purpose was to try and interact peacefully with Spirits, Kasumi valued the safety and well-being of her operatives above this objective. Neither Suichiro or Mayumi had any kind of protective gear, nor combat-training or other skills that would aid them in surviving a fire-fight and thus their best chance of sstaying alive was to simply vacate the area and go somewhere safe. There would be more opportunities to engage this Spirit, especially now that they knew what she looked like, but this right now was not a situation in which they should push for that. Especially since if the AST did catch sight of the pair, they'd probably be apprehended and brought in for interrogation and questioning.
AST Barracks

The captain of the group looked at Chou, and then at the late arrival. She furrowed her brow. The Captain, affectiionately caalled "Scowling oneesan" by her subordinates (not to her knowledge, of course) had her usual scowl and serious expression on.

"We're moving out. It should only take us a minute or so to get to the locaiton of the Spirit. HQ already dispatched and emergency strike-team that should be engaging the enemy as we speak, keeping it busy 'til we arrive. Hop to it, ladies!"

The blast doors to the barracks rose with a mechanical noise and the outside air rushed in. With a practiced and routine step, the Captain took off, followed closely - one by one - by her subordinate soldiers. Apparently, she was not keen on waiting for any late arrivals to suit up before going, and expected them to join in and come to the field once they were ready. Truth be told though, with an unstable Spirit who kept the Spacequake-alarms going on and off, and also being desginated as Reaper, wasn't really something she could leave alone for long.

Hopefully the Strike-team led by a sergeant named Muramasa, would be able to get the jump on the Spirit and keep her pinned down, allowing her own unit to come in and catch the damned thing in a pincer-attack. Then again, the pre-emptive team only had a handful of girls and they wouldn't be able to easily herd or dictate the movements of the fight. Still, they just needed to keep that damned wanna-be-grim-reaper busy for a little bit... Just a little bit, and it would be enough.

"Everyone!" The Captain called out over their communication's system. "When we arrive, quickly identify the target and open fire. We want to catch this thing by surprise if at all possible! Keep your distance though, our opponent is Reaper, a close-combat focused Spirit!"
At the shelter

The scene was typical at the shelter. It was kinda cramped, quite noisy and very, very boring. Not to mention the repeated on-and-off sounding of the Spacequake alarm had everyone on edge and nervous. Some few security personnel were patrolling the hallways, checking on people - mostly the elderly and young children - to see if they were okay, but in general nothing really exciting or worthwhile was going on here. A baby was crying in ithe arms of its mother, a pair of senior citizens were sighing and complaining how this wasn't good for their knees, a somewhat familiar-looking punk was shivering and shaking like a leaf in the wind over by the coner... Just your typical, shelter-like going-ons.

The most noteable thing here was the blonde, young man with glasses - wearing a wholly white suit - sitting on a bench alone. He had a large leather suitcase next to him and he just looked so well-dressed and out-of-place compared to all the other people. Perhaps he was a lawyer or something? Maybe a high-ranking CEO who had been at a lunch-meeting and been forced to run away when the larms went oiff? A few people gossiped and gave him passing glances, but largely even he went unnoticed. And why not? All he was doing was sitting there, alone, reading a newspaper and looking quite unperturbed by the whole ordeal - as if he was used to it.

Nodding, Chou ensured her gear was set before taking off after her captain. She flew with silence, not waiting for anyone else, and kept a bit of a distance in between her and the captain. While she had no aim of proving to anyone but herself she was good, she did wish to ensure the world is safe from the spirits, and that no one will be hurt like her father was. Hearing her captain's orders made it obvious that they were dealing with one of the more annoying spirits.

Upon reaching the area above the park, Chou instantly became irritated deeply. There were two people alongside the spirit, who appeared to be trying to approach her, which meant only one thing "Damned Spirit lovers..." Chou mumbled to herself before holding the Auldist firmly in her hand, aiming it carefully at the spirit "Time to kill Death." She once more muttered to herself under her breath before sending the first shot at her. She did not care if it meant she will be handled by later for taking a shot before her captain. She had her orders already, and thats all she cared for.
"You can definetly describe them like that. Pretending to own the world or something." Yoshikuni said, wanting to make a comment on herself being a spirit but decided that doing so in such a situation would be the worst possible thing she could do. Leaning backwards, she started to hear people whisper about some guy, who apparently had quite the reputation, who just sat there and appeared to be undisturbed by the whole thing. Slightly shrugging, she got up.

Moving to look at the blonde business man, Yoshikuni tried to estimate how old he was, but couldn't quite decide on his age. Figuring she could always ask him directly, she turned to look at Kouhime "Well, as much as I'd love to stay and talk trash about the damned what-ever-they-are, it appears that there is something a bit out of the ordinary, and with my curious nature, I cannot help but go explore it. So, it was nice talking a bit to you again, and if I ever see you, I would enjoy talking some more trash on those things." She said and gave her a slight nod with her head before going away.

She quickly made her way towards the man, who was still reading the newspaper, and she sat a bit to his left "Hey there. Gotten a bit lost or something? Because you certainly don't look like you too much belong around here, if you don't mind me saying." Yoshikuni said in a sweet tone, hoping to get a nice reaction out of him, one which might spill some details on why he was there or such.

"...."friends" What are "friends"?"

Reika paused momentarily in her madness mantra to stare at the boy and the girl...no, Mayumi and Suichi. These two...would defy Death so easily? And they claimed that they could, no, would help her understand? Reika felt no ill malice radiating off of them...and so she reached out with her pale arm to gently grasp Mayumi's fingers.

"...very well. I would like to know more about...what "friends" are."

The sound of a crack whipped through the air, and the hole emerged faster then Reika could react. A gaping wound split right upon her left shoulder, sending a short spray of blood everywhere, no doubt catching Mayumi and Suichi as well. Frowning, Reika did little more than flinch as she looked up to the sky in the face of hostile enemies. Girls with mechanical suits...and Reika could see that these people meant harm. These people had tried to kill Death...these were the people she needed to kill!

She glanced at Mayumi and Suichi, a soft purple light emitting from her shoulder. In short time, the flesh and bone began to meld itself back as one, healing the damage that was caused by the shot.

"I will protect you....new "friends"."

Without a second thought, Reika twirled her scythe and launched off into the air, appearing before the one who shot her first. With precision, she swung her mighty Angel at Chou with deadly grace and killing intent. Her voice remained as stoic and calm as her uncaring eyes.

"You attempted to hurt me...and my "friends"....I will kill you slowly. And you shall be judged."

Suichi winced and shielded himself with his arms as blood splashed over his body. He lowered his arms just in time to witness her regeneration. He knew he couldn't be of any help here, so called out to the Spirit. "Be safe!"

He grabbed at Mayumi's hand before pulling away to retreat to safety as ordered by the Commander. Whisker hopped onto his shoulder nearly causing him to lose his balance and he let a bit of a gasp of surprise out as he hadn't expected it like he should have. By now he was beginning to come out of his pushed-into-a-corner state and all the things he did hit him.

When he made it to the appropriate location he called up the Commander. "Kasumi, we're ready." After turning off the mic he groaned. "I can't believe I did all that. Mayumi, why did I do that?" Whisker let out a yowl and pointed her nose at Mayumi keen on getting some attention.
Kyoko immediately reacted to cover Chou by drawing her No Pains and blocking the Angel of the Reaper. The fearsome scythe nearly cut her as she did so and it took all of her focus to avoid flinching from the attack. "I've got you're back Chou. Give it all you got!"

She glared right into the Reaper's eyes. She had no words, simply her dislike for Spirits. If they hadn't existed she'd be happy with her father and mother, but now she and her busybody ways were all she had. Her fellow AST members were something along the lines of a family, as dysfunctional as they tended to be. As scary as the Captain was, Kyoko knew the woman cared about everyone on the team.

Close-ranged specialist or not, Kyoko herself was a close-ranged specialist and would do her best to hold her own against the Spirit. She shoved the Angel away and made an attempt to cut the Reaper with one of her blades, always keeping the other ready to guard.

The panicked voice coming from her earpiece snapped her out of her smile as bullets rained down and the Spirit's blood splashed onto her.

She looked up to see the flying battle suits swiftly zooming in.

"Shit!" she cried, but before she could do anything, she felt herself getting pulled by the hand by Suichi.

"Hey- wai-" she cried, but her breath caught as her legs were forced to run at Suichi's pace.

They only stopped when they'd gotten far enough away from the danger. She heard Suichi say something, probably into the earpiece they had. But Mayumi was too busy looking back at the fight; more specifically, at the flying battle suits.

Suichi might have said something to her. She didn't hear it. She was staring at the ASTs.

It was a look of pure hatred.

Seeing the spirit reach her quickly and attempt to strike her made Chou get ready to activate her protective territory, she saw that Kyoko came and protected her before pushing the spirit away from her, stating she has her back. Giving her a nod, she raised her Auldist, aimed it, and a moment later begun shooting the spirit again, and this time several other AST operatives joined in the shooting as well, making sure to not accidently hit Kyoko, who was currently the closest to the spirit.

"I will ensure that no one will be harmed by any more spirits, especially you, Reaper!" Chou muttered to herself while she kept on shooting, mainly aiming towards the spirit's hands and arms, in an attempt to make her drop her angel and allow Kyoko to go in for a full strength strike. She was well aware of the spirit's regenerative powers, so she knew that if they wanted to give anyone a chance to get rid of the spirit, it would have to be by seperating Reaper from her angel.

She also gave a quick glance at the two people who were now going away from the scene. It was obvious to her that those spirit lover weren't ready for any kind of a proper fight, which made her want to just go and kick their asses. To teach them a lesson that they will not forget anytime again. To ensure they will stop trying to 'help' the spirits. But due to Reaper taking all of her attention, she knew she couldn't do such a thing, so she moved to focus on Reaper.

Seeing Kyoko, who apparently did not recognize her as the girl who spoke to her before, strike forward with her blade, a tiny flicker of emotion flashed on Reika's lips. It wasn't one of sorrow as the two could-be friends dueled, oh no. It was a small, knowing smirk. Reika successfully parried the attack and dashed away backwards.

"Azriel....judge."

A wound proportionate to the strike Kyoko had attempted to inflict upon her would appear on the AST agent's side. How large and severe the counter-attack is would all be dependent on the force behind Kyko's strike. Foolish humans....the power of Reika's Angel was deadly indeed. Only time would tell if they could figure out its abilities...and why Kyoko's careless tactic was a fatal mistake against Reaper.

Leaving the blue-haired girl to deal with the wounds she caused, Reika focused her attention on the second lead AST member, Chou. as the rest of the girls began to fire as well, Reika spun her scythe with long known skill and grace, making sure to deflect the majority of the bullets away from her. Those lucky shots that did connect were instantly healed in short time...at that moment, a flash of some sort flickered behind Reika. It appeared to be a set of dark wings with thirteen eyes. One of the eyes began to shut close before the image flickered away from sight again; it was only there for a few short seconds.

Frowning at this revelation, Reika raced across the sky to lead the fire away and formulate a new strategy. Scanning for a chance to break in...ah, there. With the force of a rocket, Reaper zeroed in on her target; an AST agent with short red hair. Reaching out, she grabbed the girl's neck in her grip with one hand and lifted her up.

"Cease...your fire," she said with no emotion.

In her other hand, she raised her black scythe to strike down on the now helpless hostage.

"Cease...or I shall judge this girl before you all."

Kyoko gasped in pain after she swung. "How?" Blood dripped down her side and she had to drop to the ground. She defensively put up her territory and watched as Chou fired at the Reaper and the Spirit dodged all the attacks gracefully. She hated how even after all they had done they still hadn't been able to permanently harm the Spirit.

She turned to start firing her Auldists at the Spirit when she saw her take a hostage. Kyoko gritted her teeth from the pain and frustration. It was difficult to maintain an optimistic point of view when it came to Spirits. Kyoko struggled to make a decision about what to do. How could she save her comrade without hurting her? Should she stop? She hated that if she did this meant another Spirit would get away.

Upon seeing another agent of the AST be caught in Reaper's arms and then hearing the demand of ceasing fire or her life will be taken away made Chou raise her hand, and all of the AST agents shooting stopped. But in her mind, she didn't stop shooting. In fact, she was slaughtering Reaper, even if she healed every single moment. Which was exactly what she was going to try and use for her advantage.

She quickly charged forward and took out her Murakumo before throwing it forward, aiming to strike Reaper's arm, the one that was holding the scythe, and then also took out her Auldist and shot at the hand and shoulder, attempting to give the AST agent a way to escape, because she was doubtful Reaper would let her survive either way.

"Kyoko, don't just stay still, attack!" Chou shouted to her before completely locking her eyes on Reaper, She wasn't going to let the damned spirit get anyone or kill anyone on her watch, and because she knew of her physical counter, then the only logical way of attacking Reaper with physical attacks was by throwing the weapons at her, literally, even if it meant they will be forced to collect the weapons afterwards.

Over the park.

"What the hell are you doing, Chou!? Stop at once!" The incredibly enraged voice of the Captain rang out from behind the girl.

She didn't have much time to respond or acknowledge her superior officer's command though, as said officer had somehow managed to get up just behind Chou, grab the collar of her bodysuit and then performing a baseball-like pitch - with the girl in hand - she hurled Chou back and away from the spirit. While she didn't look physically all that different, the Captain was staring daggers at her subordinate, eyes that were saying that if she didn't do as she was told, she'd be thrown into the concrete road below next time.

"Are you a complete idiot? Shooting at and attacking someone who using your own comrade as a shield!?" The captainn boomed angrily, before turning around to face the Spirit. "Fine then, creature. We'll not attack you -" She raised her hand, and several of the AST girls flew up and encircled Reaper, keeping a certain distance from her and aiming their weapons at her steadily. "- as long as you release that girl. Now."

Reaper may have had a hostage, but she was now completely surrounded, and with further AST groups - from further away barracks - on their way to lend a hand, it was only a matter of time before she would become both completely surrounnded and have no where to run, as every path would be covered by someone with a lead-spitting tool.Yes, if she wanted to escape, now was probably the best time to do so...

... But just then...

"FIRE!"

The voice of a man, coming from below, rang out and shattered the stalemate silence. The Captain of the AST looked down to see who or what was going on, and her eyes widened in surprise as she saw a pair of rockets zipping straight towards her! With just the barest of movement, she managed to avoid the rockets narrowly, seeing them fly just past her and up a bit, before exploding in a fiery cloud. Next thing she knew, she was hearing the smattering of machine guns, and seeing that the bullets were not coming from her own soldiers, but from below! Now that the missiles had been dodged, she quickly swung her head to see what the hell was happening, and it wasn't good.

Several people had emerged from the subterranean buildings, wielding weapons of various sizes and types, though most of them were assault weapons. They were dressed in a strange, black and green uniform - with a scarlet staircase-symbol or emblemembroided on their shoulders and left chest. And for whatever reason, they were attacking the AST!! Not just the captain, but the other girls who had surrounded Reaper were now also under attack, being forced to break their formation in order to dodge the swarms and hails of bullets from the mysterious ground-forces.

"The hell is this?" The captain hissed. "Everyone! Regroup! Get out of range of those guns, then open fire on the guys shooting us from below!"
"But Captain, what about Naomi...!?"
"We have to make sure we aren't shot down before we can save her, now move it!"

Tjhe airborne combat mages began to regroup and reposition, abandoning their target, Reaper, as well as their captured companion. Several of them shouted back to the red-headed girl that they would come back and get her safely home though. While that was going on though, the man who had shouted earlier, on the ground, called for the Reaper.

"There! You're free! Hurry, Spirit-sama! Take this chance and get to safety, we can handle this bunch!"
Onboard the Ratatoskr Command Ship.

Mayumi and Suichiro had been teleported aboard their ship. They were now standing on the bridge, together with the other crew and a furious Kasumi. Her eyebrows were twitching and angry veins bulged from her temple. She was staring at the two, not saying anthing for a while, looking them over to make sure they weren't hurt. When the commander had made sure that they weren't injured, the long overdue scolding commenced.

"I told you to get away before the AST got there, didn't I?" She asked, not a real question of course. "You realise that some of them may have seen your faces now, right? They'll have that recorded, on footage, and will most likely spend the next few days trying to look for you, since they saw you talking to the Spirit." She was furious. It was quite obvious.

"Now, now, Commander!." One of the cremen chimed in, trying to diffuse the situation and soften the blows. "They were jumped by a gang of punks, it couldn't really be help-"

"Not be helped!? Of course it could have been helped! And even if that was the main problem, there's still no excuse for disobeying my orders!" She shifted her gaze to Mayumi. "I specifically told you to let Suichiro handle the Spirit, didn't I? I told you to back him up if he needed it. Tell me, Mayumi, did it look like Suichiro needed your help when he was talking the Spirit out of killing you both and calming her down? Did you think it was a good idea to suddenly have a change of face and blurt out what you did to an unpredictable and mentally unstable Spirit?" Again, she wasn't really asking. She took a breath, sighed heabily and rubbed the side of her in annoyance.

"You're both relievedf from duty for the next few days." She said this abruptly. "We don't know for sure if the AST will come looking for you, but chances are they will. You'll keep your heads down and stay out of trouble. That means no spirit-hunting, no spirit contact and no spirit-sealing for either of you. Keep yourselves out of trouble and lay low. I'll contact you when we need you. That's all."

The commander turned on her heels and walked back to her captain's seat, sitting down and brining up a monitor, going over information and date that was displayed. The other crew, after patting Mayumi and Suichi on the back - telling them they did a good job and thanking them for their work, and so on and so forth - slowly milled about and returned to their stations as well. The only person left behind with the pair was Chtiose, a warrant officer on the ship.

"Wow... She really chewed you guys out, huh?" The young girl said, making a face and wrinkling her nose. Chitose was what you would call the ship's gopher. She ran errans and did menial tasks and things that the rest of the crew either didn't have time to do, or didn't want to do. She was a sort of handyman or jill-of-alll-traes onboard, doing whatever needed to be done, from getting the other cremates coffee to entering boring logs and data into archives and storage.

She was a sweet girl though, well-liked by everyone and considered very trustworthy and loyal. She was kind and diligent, hard-working and never complained, as well as cheerful and considerate. Her staying behind tot alk to the two field-agents wasn't a surprise really, it was sort of expected of her to take care of them now, after all.

"Let's go to the canteen. I bet you don't wanna stand around here, right? Let's sit down and relax for a bit, okay?" She turned to look at them, her bright smile and clasped-together hands making it clear she really wanted to do just this.
At the shelter, bench.

The ma in the suit glanced over at the girl who had just sat down and talked to him. He cchuckled in amusment and began to neatly fold the newspaper he had been reading. Once it was neatly folded and put down on the bench, he turned his head and smiled at the girl. It was a friendly smile, the kind a gentle older brother would give his younger sister, not unpleasant in any way. The business man looked to be in his mid to late twenties, and he gave the girl a quick look-over before talking.

"Do I look that much out of place? Haha." He laughed good-naturedly. "I'm not lost though, no. I'm very familiar with this area, it's where I gre up after all." He smiled as he talked. "Though, it's true I don't live here any longer, I was just on a little business trip to one of my local offices, when the Spacequake alarms suddenly went off and I, like everoyne else, had to go to the nearest shelter. So here I am." He explained casually, like it was no big deal or trouble at all.

"Now, if you don't mind me asking." He continued. "Just why is such a pretty little lady approaching a complete stranger like me, hmm? I could've been someone dangerous, you know." He raised an eyebrow and looked at her inquisitively. "Cute girls can get into all kinds of trouble if you speak to the wrong guys." He warned sheepishly, joking of course.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the shelter.

"Hey, hey, onee-chan!" A little girl, probably the age of six or eight, was tugging on the headphone-wearing spirit's sleeve. "Why've you got those?" The girl pointed at aforementioned headphones. "Are they so you don't hafta listen to the alarms? You scared of those? Don't worry! Mommy says that as long as we're down here, the bad things can't hurt us!" SHe tried to, for whatever reason, reassure the older girl that they were safe. "Oh, I know!" She suddenly added, looking bright-eyed as only a small child can.

Reaching into the small, red school backpack she was carrying around, she pulled forth a small, colorful container. Holding out to the spirit, along with a plastic sppon, she grinmned happily as she announced. "You want some pudding? I always feel better when I eat something sweet! It'll turn that frown upside down in no time!" .... Apparently, the older girl's sour look had given this young girl the impression that she was scared ad troubled, and she was now trying to help her...

Confused by the sudden, and frankly unorthodox, plan of action made by the AST agent, Reika maneuvered nimbly and dodged out of the way the flying equipment went. A look of pure misunderstanding plagued her face, and she frowned widely. "This is...puzzling. Humans are...not normal. I don't understand..." And then the air became filled with more gunfire and mayhem. Reika lowered her black scythe down at the newly arrived humans, ready to strike them down if they too were deemed to be a threat to her.

But then she heard their words and the Spirit became even more confused. These people wanted to help her? Ah, they must be allied with the boy and the woman from before then. That was the only thing that made sense to Reika at the moment. Nodding at their words to notify that she understood, Reaper turned to flicker away from sight...only to pause when she realized the red-headed AST operative was still resting in her grip.

Turning back, she lowered herself down to the human's level and gently placed the girl on the ground before the armed humans. Meeting her temporary hostage's gaze one last time, she uttered out a small, "You shall be judged." Saying nothing more, only nodding again, Reika did fly away this time, looking for someplace to return to her normal clothing and body. And yet, even as she did so, one thought circled her mind over and over again.

She desperately wanted to see Mayumi and Suichiro a second time. Soon.
