[OOC] Date A Live - Alternate

Welcome to DAL Alternate. If you're arriving here straight from the Interest Check, then you likely know the deal already. However, if you're a fresh, new person who just happened to be dropping by, allow me to explain. This is a roleplay based on the Date-A-Live series, set in an alternative or parallel dimension where all canon characters like Shidou, Kotori, Tohka and Origami are non-existent. The Anti-Spirit Team (AST) was never bought by Deus Ex Machina Industries (DEM) and thus remains as a branch of the JSDF (Japan Self Defense Force). Aside from these minor changes to the world and story though, the rest remains largely untouched - the story takes place in the same city, same year, with the same locations you're all familiar with.

If you're not familiar with Date-A-Live but still want to join, I'd recommend you either go read the novels, the manga or watch (at least) the first season of the anime. There are a lot of terms and devices that won't be explained in the RP, as I will assume that those who join it are familiar with the franchise. For everything else, there's a (weak) Wikipedia dedicated to DAL that you can all look up and read over if there's confusion or question about a certain topic or such, I will put a link to it at the bottom of this post.

Introductory things:

You're all anxious to get to creating your characters, no doubt, but before we do that, I'd like to take a moment to explain some things and establish some rules so that we can avoid confusion and needless messes. Please take the time to read all of the information below before you start working on a character, as you may find that making a character of a certain type might not appeal to your style of play.

The Factions:

- Ratatoskr: A philantropist-like group, masquerading as a company with its hand in many different markets and businesses, it's true face is taht of an underground association, dedicated to the peaceful pacification of Spirits. Ratatoskr values life, both human and Spirit, and are working towards a way to seal any and all Spirits' powers so that they can live as normal, harmless humans in society, without the need for violence. While certainly a wealthy organization, Ratatoskr does not - due to their policies - excel at fighting or combat, and their personnel and members are usually not trained in such matters. Their prefered method of operations is through stealth and covert operations, using their mobile airship as a command center to relay orders and instructions to their operatives in the field. Ratatoskr uses a newly developed device, known as a Sealing Crystal, to nullify and seal away the power of Spirits. These crystals are look like small gemstones and are typically set into rings, bracelets or other jewelry that is easy to wear. Be warned, once a Sealing Crystal is worn by a Spirit, trying to take it off can cause severe pain, and the Sealing Crystal can also break if a Spirit becomes too mentally unstable or upset,, at which point it will need to be replaced.

- Anti-Spirit Team: The AST has one goal and one interest only - the complete eradication of Spirits. They do not view Spirits as humans, but rather as something aking to living weapons or walking, breathing, natural disasters. The fact that some Spirits also attack humans have led them to label all Spirits as evil and malevolent, regardless if they try to just run away when attacked or not. They make no distinction between regular Spirits and Human-turned-Spirits, and will attack both. However, AST does not mindlessly assault their targets, and will not engage in large-scale operations if there are civilians around, nor will they risk harming regular humans. While not all AST members may consider Spirits to be evil, they are generally in agreement that Spirits are too dangerous and unstable to be allowed to wander around as they please - and as such, they hunt them down. AST has access to a large variety of weapons and equipment meant for battle.

- Spirits: Spirits are extra-dimensional creatures who take on the shape of human females. Their arrival in our world is usually heradled by, or accompanied by, a Spacequake that - to varying degrees - causes large-spread destruction in our world. Spirits have very different personalities and are most certainly individualistic, as some are very peaceful and timid, while others are brash and loud, while others still are violent and bloodthirsty. Spirits are jhowever constantly hounded by the AST and DEM whenever they appear, meaning their lives are always at risk. Some Spirits try to hide and blend into human society, opting to pass themselves off as humans. However, due to their powers being linked to their mind and mood, spirits can sometimes cause incidents or disasters unwillingly or unwittingly. There are also two kinds of Spirits, the regular kind that hails from their own dimension, and another variety which are actually humans who've been possessed by a Spirit. Spirits come equipped with an Astral Dress, a special garment that not only protects them, but also gives them many other abilities - flight, being one of them. They also each have their own 'Angel', a being that can comes in many various shapes and forms, and grants the Spirit a unique and special power.

Gender distribution and character limits:

Keeping in tune with the theme and setting of the world, we've opted not to change this. In short, this means that all spirits and all members of AST are female. You cannot bypass this rule. If you want to make a male character, you will have to make him a member of Ratatoskr.

You may make up to two different characters for this roleplay. However, you may not make two characters belonging to the same group (i.e not two spirits, two AST soldiers or two Ratatoskr operatives), your characters are also not allowed to help or otherwise benefit one another. You may not use one character to unfairly favor one side (i.e making a Ratatoskr agent who tells/reveals all their plans to your other character who belongs to AST).

Certain powers and abilities when it comes to Spirits have been disallowed, meaning you aren't allowed to use them. Below is a short list of powers you may not have - note that this list may expand over time.
- Time manipulation
- Space manipulation
- Death manipulation
- Gravity manipulation
- Mind control

At the moment, we're only allowing three[ Spirits in total among our players. There is no way to reserve or save a spot for this, you will simply have to come first and get your sheet accepted. And that's another thing, even if you submit your Spirit before someone else, if it's not accepted and you don't make the necessary edits before the next sheet is surveyed, you may lose out. Keep this in mind when making your Spirit.

Rules and boring stuff:

1. Obey and listen to the GM, and any Co-GM if such are appointed.
2. Do not flame, post destructive criticism or otherwise behave like a douchebag towards others in the RP.
3. No God-Moding, Auto-Hitting, Ever-Dodging, Mind-reading, Meta-gaming, Character Hijacking or other such dickery.
4. If you're busy, going on a trip or for some other reason will be away from the RP for a while, leave a message telling us about it! Failure to do this may lead to your character(s) untimely and irrevocable demise.
5. No one-liner posts. At least one full paragraph (five sentences).
6. No flood-posting, wait for at least two other people to post before you post again (only applies to the IC).
7. Have fun, socialize and talk about your favourite things!

These rules are subject to being edited, removed or added to upon my discretion.

Sections marked in bold are mandatory and must be filled out, but things in italics are just flavor-items and can be left out/removed if you don't want to bother filling them out. He tries to be polite for his job, unless someone is incredibly stupid there. Out of his job, you can say that he.....frequently uses sarcastic and random comedy, and often uses violence as an end to everything, as apparently it is logical. See, while his way of thinking isn't the best, you can definitely say that sometimes it can be logical, in some fucked-up situation. Because he often thinks of those.

He's best described as a bit of a madman and a forever-running cruel-ish comedy combined and smushed into the human body. Which isn't the worst way to describe it. In fact, it may be the most fucking accurate guess you'll get. He also tends to wing it when small problems arise too.

He's often judgemental, and when you make a bad impression on him, then you're either going to be a mental or just really damn mean...in his book. A real reason for his not using of logic in common situations is mainly because sometimes he doesn't need to, because it's way too obvious to do anyways. A reason for his using of logic in uncommon situations is because it's not obvious and he really needs to actually think about it a bit.
Quirks: He likes to just chat often, and seems to have a short term memory and breaks off into different branches of the talk.
He has massive arachnophobia. And hates ducks. Or people who look like ducks. Or chicken who look like ducks.
Likes: Cruel humor, sarcasm, jokes, anything not spiders, anything not ducks, his scooter, art, cheese.

Dislikes: Spiders, ducks, running for 30+ minutes, eating turkey, eating fish, fishing.

History: He is from somewhere in Europe. Probably Edinburgh in Scotland or something else generic like that. So, he isn't from dis place.

In fact, he was trying to deliver some food to some running kids when this fuckin' spacequake hit. Like, KABOOOM! Explosions that would make Michael Bay embarrassed, he thought. And when there was an explosion, making him just jump off of his scooter, there was also a girl. There was this girl right in the middle of that explosion. And then it was like, is that girl dead? 'Cause it looked like it. But then some people that were from the AST that he didn't know about then showed up. So, he just rode away to safety.

Then, he was called in to join this Ratatoskr group or some shit. And then he found out about the Spirits and stuff, and that the girl that caused the explosion actually WAS a Spirit. And then he joined, because why not? There was nothing really to do, so...yeah.

THE KIDS NEVER GOT THEIR FOOD.

Occupation: He works at the only Chinese diner in town as a delivery person, and is known to try to deliver anything, anyhow, anywhere, mostly on a scooter of sorts. He also attends College.

Equipment: He has an earpiece with a communication device, like...almost everybody. Pretty much.

Yoshikuni has two personas. One she uses when she is disguised as a human, and another when she is in her spirit form.

While in her human disguise, she is rather cheerful and enjoys the company of others deeply, but hates being in the sun or anywhere which might have too much light. She also dislikes flashlights, computers and TV due to them producing light, but she can tolerate using them or being around them if she needs to. She is rather outgoing and would love to get her hand on people, and seem to also like it when two people's shadows are touching, as if their shadows are kissing or hugging.

While in her spirit form, she keeps her cheerful attitude, but also seem to have a tendency of talking about people's shadows as little snacks. She also tried to get people to have their shadows touch hers, mainly due to the fact it allows her to eat their shadow slowly until they lose conciousness. Her dislike of light also seems to become greater while she is in spirit form.

Enjoying when shadows touch each other, lick her fingers after touching a person's shadow and also lick her lips at the sight of a rather large shadow.

Ability:
Shadow Controling - Yoshikuni has several powers that she can use from this ability.

It gives her the ability to literally eat another person's shadow. When she does, the person will feel weak, and its possible to also be knocked out, but she cannot kill through this. She must consume a shadow once every while in order to maintain her own life, which can be shown by looking at her own shadow, which will slowly become grey if she takes too long between her shadow meals.

She can also manipulate shadows with her staff, make the shadows bind a person and also attack by sending the shadows at someone, and the shadows will be sent towards the person as if they were arrows, which dissolve a couple of moments after hitting a surface. She can do so by waving her staff in the direction of the attack, and she is able to bind others by spinning her staff. She can also have the shadows protect her by tapping on her leg twice, making a shield out of a shadow around her.

When she calls out Leliel, her angel, he is manifested as a small moon behind her, and she can shatter the dark orb on her staff in order to replace the orb with a miniature version of Leliel, which makes her staff turn into an advanced version of her weapon. This makes her control over the shadows much more advanced, but also takes a lot more from her to use. An additional power she gains from Hoshech is the capability of making a shadow sword, which she can wield in her open hand and use that to attack directly.

Personality:
At first glance and interaction, Reika can appear cold hearted and indifferent towards the people around her. This is a common misunderstanding, as Reika is simply ignorant of the way humans live their lives due to her nature as a Spirit. She acts uncaring because most of the time she doesn't know how to respond to the current situation.

This obviously brings forth negative impacts though, as Reika is often confused and conflicted about human morals of what is right and wrong. As such, she often approaches situations in her own way without realizing the lasting effects they can have on the people around her. Quiet, soft-spoken, and usually reserved, one thing she continues to not understand is how death and killing are necessarily a "bad" thing. Everyone dies, right?

-On that note, she holds a constant delusion that she is Death itself

History:
Like any other Spirit, Reika remembers very little, if any at all, of her past before coming to this world. However, she does possess memories of her first encounter with a human. Having caused a Space Quake in a small rural community, Reika found herself wandering the remains of a church she unknowingly demolished. Walking through the rubble, she discovered the body of a young boy splayed out before her. Prompted by curiosity, she walked over to the boy, only to discover he was barely alive.

The boy had enough breath to tell her a great many things about this world; his name was Sora. In his haze, he believed the Spirit to be Death itself come to deliver him from pain and suffering. When Reika questioned him about it, Sora introduced the concept of Life and Death to her. Genuinely interested, Reika stayed with the boy all night until he lay silent forevermore in the early morning dawn. Noticing that Sora was no longer speaking, Reika realized that this must be what Death was.

Sora died before her. She had killed him. He called her Death...was she Death? Yes...maybe she was.

Reika thanked the fresh corpse for giving her new purpose and a new identity to her existence before leaving the church grounds. Thus, Reaper was born in the ashes of the Lord, and Reika vowed to carry on her delusional role of Death incarnate. Since then, Reika has adopted the common name she uses now as well as created for herself pastimes in the form of Raizen High School and a part-time job at the local library. However, when night approaches, the Reaper searches for those needed of her salvation.

At first starting with only the sickly and those on the edge of living, Reika has now expanded her reaps to include those she deems unworthy of living or a threat to others. A good majority of mass murders and killings are direct results of her misunderstood identity.

Occupation: Works part time at the local library and is also a student of Raizen High School.

Azriel: It takes the form of a pair of bony, black wings layered with white feathers. Numerous living purplish-red eyes are seen on the interior of the wings. A total of thirteen eyes are present in both wings; six on the right and seven on the left.

These eyes are actually indicators of how much energy Reika can spend to regenerate her body, closing fully once they are spent up. The more damage means the more energy, and the more eyes it takes to properly heal. Once every eye has closed, Reika can no longer heal herself in battle, and it will take at least two whole days for all of the eyes to become functional once more.

Abilities:
Physical Regeneration: Can regenerate practically every portion of her own physical body perfectly; this includes exterior flesh as well as internal organs. This power is not invincible, as she cannot heal the brain or the heart. Furthermore, the average time it takes to heal her body takes around two to three full minutes. Although she can heal severe or major wounds, the energy required to do this is massive, and it will cause internal pain, usually followed by Reika passing out from exhaustion. The more damage means the more strain for complete regeneration.

Rebuttal: As expected, Reika's main form of attack lies within her weapon, a black scythe. By successfully parrying or blocking an oncoming attack, Reika can then inflict the same amount of damage or force right back at the enemy almost instantly. However, this ability can only work when defending against physical close-combat attacks, such as sword strikes. If one were to carelessly slash at a defensive Reika, a cut of similar proportion would immediately present itself on the enemy. Unfortunately, this unique power reverts Reika's fighting style to retain more defensive capabilities than offensive ones, forcing her to rely solely on counterattacks and first strikes.

Personality: Kouhime is a quiet person, rarely one to talk when she doesn't need to. Her sense of humor is incredibly dry and sarcastic, but no one seems to know unless they themselves were the target of her jokes. She wears her headphones everywhere she goes, except when she is in the library. She enjoys music of all types except for noise music; if it has a discernible beat she can easily make out, she'll listen to it.

Ability: Acoustic Manipulation
Kouhime has the ability to manipulate mechanical waves, meaning that she can send waves of pressure through a medium. She usually propagates this as creating as various buzzing noises. More dangerously, however, she can send these waves through solid materials. While in theory she could send a frequency through a material that resonates with it, causing it to lose structural integrity (aka break), the energy and concentration required to do this is nothing short of mind-numbing. She is not yet powerful enough to send these waves over long-distances, so her combat range is short to medium. Use of her power (naturally) creates noise, so she uses noise-cancelling headphones to drown the noise out.

I see that three spirits have been made, I also see that it doesn't mean that they'll be accepted and yet the idea I had in my mind the other day is completely gone. Poof vanished! Also, I will not be able to post between the 14th and 17th of this month due to Gen Con happening. I also may not be able to post in the two days before that, but I will make attempts to when night time comes around in the hotel/motel I'm in provided I'm not a zombie from the driving.

Hahahaha I see, well I've decided that I'm not going to make a Spirit anyways, the idea I had for that character I completely gone, which just means it wasn't good enough to begin with if I forgot it so easily. So I'll be filling up my two character slots with an AST gal and a Ratatoskr guy

Personality: She's a very sociable girl and always is finding something to do with her time. She loves to participate in charities as she feels they make an impact with the lives of those in need. School leaves her a little frazzled as she has to fit in her extra curricular lifestyle with her passing classes. However, the challenge of juggling her life in such a fashion charges her up and motivates her. She does her best to come to quick desicions since it's troublesome to herself and others if she has a delay in her actions a lot of the time. Optimism is her favorite line of thought, but she does bring it in check when it's a bad idea to be in such a mind set. She views Spirits as a threat that need to be dealt with, even if they may not necesarily be evil.
Quirks: She loves plushies.

Likes: Helping people, Projecting her energy (as in her positivity), Charity

Dislikes: People with a bad attitude for no apparent reason, Laziness, She hates people that think they are better than others. Spirits.

History: Born to a poor but loving family, her mother and father were always going to charities to get the bare necessities needed to feed her and themselves whenever they could. Father worked in a factory for just enough money to keep a roof over their heads. As soon as she could, Kyoko got right to work helping around the house with chores.

While she was at school one day, her parents were getting food from a charity when a spacequake hit. She tried to make sense of the maddening event and even fell to depression for a while. When she put herself together she made an effort to figure out what caused the spacequake and discovered Spirits for herself that way. Her investigation caught the eyes of the AST who took her in and tested her for magical capabilities and rated her at a B. She was taught how to use a CR-Unit and decided to tack her AST work as a form of charity.

Personality: Suichi is a calm and collected young man with an interest in botany and gardening. He believes that everything worthwhile is likely to take a while to get and is fine with being patient for it. He isn't all that outgoing or sociable, but whenever a conversation makes its way towards him he's quite happy to engage. He has some troubles initiating conversation since he isn't always sure how to start. He's a kindhearted and gentle person who loves to help those that ask for it. When push comes to shove he can be very direct in his actions.
Quirks:
1) His cat, Whisker, a large orange female tabby is almost always on his shoulders and never leaves his side. Much to his chagrin. This even causes trouble at school.
2) When he is pushed into a corner all restraints he puts on himself are gone. He'll lash out if being confronted. He'll say what's on his mind even if it's something that might cause problems. He becomes more of a man of action than thought.

History: Suichi was raised by his father and never knew his mother who died during childbirth. He was fortunate to have survived himself and until recently had health issues that prevented him from too much phyiscal activity. He spent a lot of his time in his father's flower shop and inherited his father's enjoyment of the job.

One day he was running errands and a spacequake warning went off. On his way to the emergency shelter he blacked out and woke up at the edge of the disaster with a Spirit confronting him. He had some trouble reacting as he wasn't sure if he was dreaming or not until she pushed him into a corner and he confronted back in a surprising fashion. This left her puzzled, but then AST troops arrived and the ensuing action afterwards resulted in the two getting separated.

The next morning he ended up in a meeting with the Ratatorsk organization and he decided to join them. He wanted to help the Spirits as to him the one he met seemed confused and lost by her reaction to his confronting her.

Occupation: Flower Shop Worker and High School Senior

Equipment: In typical Ratatoskr style, he has an earpiece with a communication device in it to get directions from his assistants on the job.
