May I ask how large the camp would be and what the terrain is like? This could come into play in the role play ex. someone escapes the camp ground with the murderer on pursuit.

If it hasn't been decided I think it would be nice for it to be nestled in a mountainous region, with a clear lake nearby. The Rockies would be great. Though, to be honest, I'm not sure if camps are ever that far out in the middle of nowhere. Any input on this?

I have not put too much thought into that, actually. But I would rather a woods/forest-y area over a mountainous one. There's no particular reason for it, it's just how I imagined it when I originally thought of the concept. As for the size, I'm not good with sizes by actual unites (you know, like acres or square feet, etc.), so I'll just use general terms. This camp would be decently large, like it takes maybe... 15 min to run from one end to another? I'm sorry, I'm really bad at this. Even trying to use general terms isn't working.

The camp that I was in definitely felt like the middle of nowhere. It was in an extremely small town - population 291 - and it took a while to actually get into the town. What I was imagining was that there would be a camp a few hours away from the closest town by car. I have no idea if there's a camp in the Rockies. As stated before, I have little to no knowledge about summer camps besides the language immersion camps that I worked at. It's plausible though, and not a bad idea.

Like I said, I never attended Summer Camp. (although I did spend a week at 'Science Camp' during the 6'th Grade) So I may need pointers in the right direction, but if I had to choose a name, I would go with Camp Roosevelt.

I've been to plenty of camps, though they aren't the usual ones you guys are used to. By this I mean that we'd sleep under tarps out in the open, no cabins whatsoever. Occasionally we'd have tents. So I personally don't have much experience with American summer camps (probably because I'm Australian), but I guess I could provide input in some of the survival aspects, though not much. The locations varied with each camp. One I have coming up is on a mountain, which we hike over.

As with a name, I'm not much use either. But as I said, I could provide some (if only little) help with understanding some of the survival aspects.

As with GreenGrenade, I've never went on an official camping retreat type of deal, but I have camped and backpacked for several days out in lakes and mountains. But I mean, it shouldn't be hard to simulate this specific scenario, right? To make it simple, just think of an isolated area within the middle of a dense forest that are inhabited by campers and staffs. There would be cabins enough for the campers, a mess hall, probably a separate building/section for the staff to stay, area and recreational buildings for exercise/sports/activities, and ect. If terrain does add depth to the decisions made by our characters, then perhaps we should have some sort of body of water close by? A giant lake (which could add other recreational activities such as canoeing, swimming, fishing, ect) or a maybe a river (could be an obstacle that cuts off the camp from civilization. Could make it interesting for the killer).

There is this old boarding school in kentucky that my family goes to every year for reunion called Pine Mountain and we could possibly base it off the land there. It has dorms instead of cabins. Would you rather have cabins like in a traditional camp or dorms?

Guys, I do know what the camp looks like and what it consists of. I'm just having difficulties determining and explaining the size. The camp will have cabins, it'll be by a lake, etc etc. I have a rough layout sketched out and everything.

What I do need help with are what activities normal camps do, and any names. Unless you guys want to role play a language immersion camp, that is. That I'm an expert in.

Room for one more?

Also normal camps usually have the stereotypical sitting around the campfire telling scary stories type of thing. They also do a lot of groups activities likes games, archery and putting on plays so maybe we can use those. Also most of the free time for campers is at night because there might be nothing planned at that time. One other thing is that summer camps usually do a lot of activities in the water like using that big inflatable pillow thing so launch kids into the water. Hope these help.

It can just be like a getaway type of dealio for the kids. They sign up to spend a few days/weeks/months out in the wilderness to make new friends, learn about nature, participate in various outdoor activities, ect. It might be simpler to have it that way, unless you specifically want some sort of theme or style of camp. :)

I went to this camp once that did archery, canoeing, fossil learning stuff, shooting a hunting rifle, gun safety, learning about endangered animals and taxidermy, and woodcrafting. In our spare time we watched movies, played four square, and swam.

Subbed.

Sorry guys, I'm British. Our camps are named after the founders or the place it's situated and they rarely have "Camp" at the begining of their names.

And why settle for one terrain? There could be mountains to one side and forest on the other. Or a mountain with a forest. Either way, there should be some kind of difficult terrain, preferably the camoflauge of a forest or wood.

The setting seems to be a very important priority to everyone, heh. I came here because murder, but yeah canoeing is a given and archery sounds great. I don't have first hand camping knowledge but if activities is a necessity here's a site I looked up with more than enough games?

http://www.ultimatecampresource.com/site/camp-activities/camp-games.html

Some looked kinda fun.

Well I imagined the mountains to be forested anyway; vast carpets of pine with snow capped peaks jutting out.

Anyway yeah these places look very out of the way, so I doubted that a camp would be in a place like those to begin with.

Aside from the terrain though, I feel that maybe the camp should have some sort of ongoing contest (Painting, carving, writing, archery, soccer, any other kind of sport, etc. I think this would add a layer of depth to the world.).

Ultimate Camp Resource is a good site, I used it a lot when I was working.

I guess if you guys don't want to use the original plan I had for the camp, we don't have to...

I think it's very important for a GM to carry out what he or she intended to do and how they wanted to do it, other wise they wouldn't be the "Game Master".

How are we interfering with your original plan? If you don't agree with the terrain I suggested, you don't have to take it.

Listen to those guys above this post, they're right.

'fraid I'm not of much help at all those topics, coming from someplace in europe where such camps either don't exist or managed to avoid my attention successfully for years. Which is part of the reason why I'm interested in this in the first place, and may or may not be incorporated into my possible character concept.
