Dare I say, this is a finely crafted premise thou hath there. May I inquire about a thing or two!

Let's say I don't know the first thing about Nier:Automata, do I need to do some homework?

Would a more 'archaic' AI fit into this scenario? Say, one that was written before human emotion was translated into program code? An AI that doesn't really 'feel' things, maybe doesn't even look that human? What I have in mind would still be humanoid by definition, just in a more robotic shell.

By definition, it is said that the Protector archetype usually comes with a shield. If one came up with a different way to deflect attacks... let's say, use concussive blasts to counterattack instead, in an offensive-defense-way. With the appropriate amount of disadvantages over an actual shield of course. Possibly this would be sort of a hybrid between Protector and Attack, someone who can tank a couple of hits (but not as well as an actual protector, primarily against singular/few hostiles) while also doing okay counter-damage (somewhat more than a Protector, nowhere near as much as a DPS). Would that be too bananas?
How is it possible that the most badass role is the one left? What's wrong with you people?!

I could have a crack at it if this is still alive/you people still interested.
I'm intrigued. I've always been a sucker for the sacrifice-for-more-power deal and the idea of RPing a one-armed mage of sorts has always been floating around sort of, 'n with Kralkatorrik Draskeleth this even overlaps with my favorite branch of magic. I'm not sure yet if I can commit to this RP enough to give it justice, so allow me to dwell on the matter for a day or so.
Thou hath mine interest.

My b, but I think I'll have to drop out of this. Sorta "lost touch" with the character I created. Been trying to get a post together for like an hour and a half and it's just not happening.

Guess in the end I was the flake.

"Cash sent me a message with a lead on a nightmare. Thinks he may have found one his own crew isn't very well-equipped to handle. More than your common 'ghostly spook'."

If Hex had been physically able to perk up her ears, this would have been the moment. Her first (and only) previous run-in with a nightmare was only days ago, and had been quite the experience. Getting to hunt another one so soon was unexpected but not entirely unwelcome. The tension drained from her body when "Mom" mentioned that the hunt was going to start tomorrow.

“In summary the message says: Cash’s crew is scared of this thing, 20 Mobbers dead, seems targeted, something stopping him from sending pictures which is odd, further details in person.”

Liza cocked her head, letting that info sink in. 20 dead mobbers didn't really mean a lot. There was always the chance of them having been at each others throats when the nightmare joined the party. The part about not being able to send pictures was more interesting.

"Maybe the thing isn't very photogenic.", Hex thought out loud.

“Ah, the mob that got hit was the Himura Family. Was wondering how they could lose 20 so quickly, when rivals in that district really cared about them.”
The comment from End made Liza shut up and create a new reminder on her pad. She would have to look up the name "Himura" later, as it had no readily apparent meaning for her.

After looking back up from the device, Hex found the Doc and her adorable menagerie next to her, which brought a smile to her face. It gave her the chance to break some of that new-blood-ice and, more importantly, pet Biter.

“Your Hex right? I heard you had quite the interesting companion, one capable of going tooth and claw vs a nightmare and surviving.”

Hex stowed her pad in a pocket and sat more upright, leaned forward to carefully extend her right hand towards the creature sitting between them.

"That's right, or Liza while we're among friends." The Doc's use of the word 'companion' in this context summoned a wry grin on her face. She had considered Glav as a lot of different things, but never as a companion. Although it certainly wasn't an unreasonable descriptor. "And that would be Glav. For all I know, he can pretty much survive anything."

Hex looked around for a moment, trying to figure out whether her companion/protector/ball-and-chain was actually in the room right now. There were a few telltale signs that gave his presence away to the attentive observer even when he was hiding.
"I don't think he's here right now, though. 's not quite as obedient as your friends here and tends to hide in plain sight."

She gently touched the scaly head of the thing Advent had called Biter earlier. "And not nearly as cute, either." Her extended arm revealed quite a bit of scarred tissue, most of it in oval, bite-like shapes. Some of these had a dark-blue tone indicating that they were still relatively fresh and didn't receive optimal medical attention.

"What are those, anyway? Where do you find one of these?" She was very obviously delighted by the glowy dragon-puppy-eyes in front of her.

Elizabeth Carmine was still settling in at Cafe Thaza. After the complete and total demolition of the entire living block she had stayed at before, she was beyond thankful how her new job offer came with a place to temporarily stay at. Though, from what she had seen in the few days of her stay here, the term "temporary" was being taken rather liberal by some of the occupants of this place. Though she suspected that the people "Mom" allowed to become long-time tenants payed their rent in a currency known as "protection".

And what a weird bunch that was, Hex thought as she closed the door to her claustrophobia-inducingly small room. Rearranging arrays of notes on a small digital notepad, she slowly made her way down the corridor. A list of rituals and incantations flew across the screen, statistics and news about what was currently happening in the area tagged as "read later", numerous items on a long "shopping list" crossed off or removed. Lost in though, she shuffled towards what was a living area of sorts. Nobody else seemed active right now in this part of the building, although she could hear muffled voices from behind some of the doors. Somewhere, somebody laughed hysterically. Or maybe it was crying. The young woman didn't care enough to find out.

Instead, she approached the living room, which apparently had just become the scene of a medium-sized commotion. Hex saw a couple of the other cleaners gathering around some wounded kid, and immediately got out of the way. Neither was she decently educated to be of any help here, nor did she possess the skill set necessary. Seeing "Mom" and Warthog made her swallow the comment her tongue immediately had come up with. Something about kitchen heat and eating bullets. She dodged one of the Doc's pets, which reminded her of a more adorable, smaller Glav. She hadn't seen this one before and resisted the urge to pet it, what with the inappropriateness that'd display in regards this bleeding idiot everyone cared so much about.

As she silently let herself slide onto an armchair in the opposite corner of where the patient was being worked on, she only just noticed Zer0 hiding behind the big guy, as if she expected bullet-wound-kid to explode like a grenade any second now. Hex wondered how many of the bystanders there were actually, genuinely interested in helping, and who was just there to show off their awesome powers. How long she would have to live with these people before she'd start caring everytime some kiddo got shot in Neo Babylon. She pretended to be working on her notepad, but really she observed the assembled group, still trying to get a feel for their internal dynamics. Still far from feeling like an part of Cafe Thaza's community, instead of an intruder.

End @ERode
Has crazy useful abilities, which is worthy of being respected in its own right, but doesn't really do anything for Hex in particular. Her unnecessary thrill-seeking seems out of place, but everyone has their vices. Hex would have been rather indifferent about this one, but what little interaction they had thus far hinted at End having some sort or problem with her for no obvious reason. And Liza is the kind of person to gain great amusement from such superficial irritation and push the envelope with sarcastic friendliness.

Voice @Jeyma
While Hex regards her magical abilities with a bit of jealousy, the body that comes with it is pretty much the opposite. During her time with the Painstakers, she'd seen a couple of tech'd up freaks every now and then so the mere sight of Voice doesn't really make her flinch anymore. Ultimately she seems nice, giving Hex no reason to be mean to her.

Advent @DracoLunaris
The Doc is a curious case. Her flesh-craft weapons are rather interesting to behold, and it's nice that there are still folks out there who don't exclusively rely on bullets, these days. Plus, being on good terms with the only medic around is really useful, when you have to pay for your only defense system with gaping wounds. It helps that said medic is one of the few positive and genuinely-fun-to-be-around people.

Warthog @SilverDawn
He's protective, clad in heavy armor and draws a lot of attention. Hex' sense of self-preservation immediately left her a mental note to play particularly nice around this one, because getting on the good side of 'that kind of guy' always pays off.

Zer0 @Skyswimsky
Hex doesn't share everyone elses 'oh gosh she's way too young to be here' kind of attitude. She respects anyone who's managed to survive and adapt, and particularly when someone specialises in backup/support roles (even if her support magics don't synergize with Hex' skillset at all). Unsung heroes, all of them. But the nightmares wouldn't give her any extra chances due to her age, so the overprotectiveness of some of the others is met with dry disapproval from Hex' side. Despite often acting like the very opposite is the case, Hex would shield the kid from harm in a heartbeat. Grudgingly.

Runner @Psyker Landshark
Not much of an opinion on this one. Seems competent, but the smell and attitude are potentially irritating.

Arsenal @Click This
Teleporting in airstrikes is pretty damn cool. Hex likes this one for her useful magics, despite Arsenal making it fairly obvious that the feelings are not mutual. They don't have to be friends to work well as a team, but some part of Hex hopes that she can prove her worth to Arsenal on the battlefield. She would make one hell of an ally if Hex didn't have to worry about getting blown up "accidentally".

Massive apologies, but I won't be able to cough out relationships and a post before monday. Got no pc available until then, and writing lengthy RP texts on mobile is ass-cancer. I'll get to it asap on monday though.
