EDIT: Also, the revolt Khalifah caused came as a result of letting the Germans keep the coast of Tanzania (which Zanzibar owned). That wouldn't really be a problem here since I'm taking both the islands and the coast, as well as the rest of Tanzania (with time).

@Pepper it's your choice, but I'll give you my thoughts and you can make up your mind.

Of course he'd be anti-European if they were forcing him to make do without one of the most important parts of his countries economy - the slave-trade. But if you can offer alternatives, I'm sure you'll find him to be very cooperative. A man like Barghash is concerned with developing his nation - pipelines, infrastructure etc. the fact that the Zanzibar has a horrible war record is evidence that they didn't work too much on their military. Thus if you open up trade with the Zanzibar, allowing for a replacement of the slave trade, he'll be content going about his reforms and building up the infrastructure of the Zanzibar, which is all good for you in the end as it means more income from there, and a more developed, militarily weak country if you every choose to take direct control.

You can choose between an incompetent leader (which this Khalifa clearly is) who likes you and will make a big mess, or a competent leader who can be encouraged to like you and will develop your protectorate for you.

My viewpoint is this: Khalifa is easy to control. But you do make some good points. Maybe I'll change the order a bit if it's not too late.

I was also just reading that the British actually sided against Barghash in his struggle for power against his brother, resulting in him living in exile for two years. I can see that being a big reason why he'd also not like Europeans too much. If you show him you're on his side. I'm willing to bet he'll be quite happy to cooperate. It's still Wednesday, you have until the end of the day to edit your orders ;) (I always feel better after rewording or tweaking my orders a bit on the final day :P)

I don't think I've gone a single turn without changing my mind about something and notifying Outcast that I have tweaked the orders around ;P I do tend to make better decisions after I've thought things through for a few hours, so a lot of the things I do end up getting changed after a bit of thinking.

Haha, I think I may have the record for how many times I've changed my orders, though if anyone wishes to challenge me on that, let's go :P
I believe the most I've changed my orders for a single turn might have been four times, and that was the very first turn as the Ottoman Empire in this WiR xD

If you're serious about attempting another Greek colonization effort (which you shouldn't be), then I'd suggest waiting until after the conference. Otherwise you may step into an area already claimed by someone in the conference, and in doing so you'll undermine the whole thing and get put on everyone's shitlist. And seeing as the conference acts as an agreement between the nations to not colonize areas claimed by others, you can bet that if you end up stepping on say.. Germany's toes, no-one is going to come to your rescue when Germany opens up a can of whoop-ass on you. Same goes with any nation attending the conference. The nations in the conference will recognize the claims made in the conference over those made by Greece on its own.
