I think we should plan for it to be this way for the foreseeable future and not put the RP on hold on the idea that DM will be back soon. I think for the time being, we should put all decisions that would normally be decided by the GM to be instead put down to a vote. DM is a mature and understanding individual, and would understand our decision to do something like this given the exceptional circumstances.

Not sure, just putting the idea forward. DM has been gone without a trace for a week now, and it'd make me sad to see an RP with this much planning fade out in waiting.

The Government is comprised of the Imperator who is the executive head of the state while the senators draft and pass laws. Pure democracy is strictly followed, social leaders report to governors and these governors report directly to the senators with the will of the people. If corruption is suspected then an internal investigation is launched immediately. Senators are chosen from the top generals in the military. If the Imperator is away, either on a campaign or unable to preform his duties, then the consul elect would sit in for the Imperator.

Race Name : Cathites
Race Info: The Cathites are a simply humanoid race evolved from the equivalent of reptiles. They still retain the vertical retinas and scaly skin, however some have developed a thick fleshy skin. There is nothing particularly remarkable about Cathites, they are simple creatures of meat and flesh. Cathites sport varying builds, but all hold physical fitness as a priority. Cathites are honorable people who take traditional Roman values to heart. Cathites are naturally very strong, due to their active lifestyles. The melee based tactics that the military uses requires them to be able to pierce armor and possibly shields with sword and spear strikes.

Language- Citizens of the Novrom speak a modified version of Latin, called Latinai

Dominant Society: Cathite Aristocracy
- There are three classes of Cathites
• Highborn/Noble class- Mostly wiped out during the revolutions, some have remained sympathetic to the peoples cause are are wealthy social leaders. These are usually governors or large business owners that not only provide jobs for the lower classes but often use their wealth to help the society as a whole

• Soldiers/ Merchants/ Artisans - This makes up the majority of the work force of the Novrom. Made up of Merchants ( both state and private), artisans and soldiers. Most enjoy a good quality of life and most live in the urban areas of the planets. Unless Highborn, most soldiers (enlisted and officers) fit into this category. This middle class is very influential to the direct democracy system.

• Farmers/ Non-citizens- Although the lowest class , this class receives the most support from the state. Most farmers are stat employees and receive wide tracts of land, as a result farmers usually have many side business that allow them to make a lot of money. The farming class is the most varied financially. Some are extremely wealthy while others have the basic standard of life. Non-citizens receive little to no state support and usually work in the farming class as manual labor. This group can become citizens at any time but choose not to, thus receive no help from the state.

Moral Values: The people of the Novrom value their legal system and their honor over everything. They respect and strive to maintain order and discipline no matter the cost.
-Fides. The Latin word fides encompasses trust/trustworthiness, good faith/faithfulness, confidence, reliability, and credibility
-Pietas. The Roman attitude of dutiful respect towards the gods, homeland, parents and family was expressed by the word pietas, which required the maintenance of relationships in a moral and dutiful manner.
-Gravitas Gravitas was dignified self-control.
-Dignitas and auctoritas. Dignitas and auctoritas were the end result of displaying the values of the ideal Roman and the service of the state in the forms of priesthoods, military positions, and magistracies. Dignitas was reputation for worth, honour and esteem

Religion: Religion does not have a place of great importance in the Novrom but they do worship multiple gods

History- When Voyager found its way to the Sagittarius arm the Cathite people spent years trying to decode what was on the ‘Golden Disc”. After finally decoding the history of Earth, the nobles and intellectuals decided to adopt the culture and society of the Roman Empire. The Novrom opened their society to all races and beings who wanted asylum, along as they pledged their allegiance to the Imperator and Novumii Imperium Romanum. Thus making the Novrom the most diverse nation in the Sagittarius arm. What followed was a period of prosperity as the society grew until economic stratification between the rich and the poor was too great. A popular uprising of common people took place which was quelled after many years of conflict. The Imperator was overthrown and in his place the Aristocrats ruled, forming a senate. Another period of prosperity followed but the Aristocracy became corrupt and soon there was another social revolution. This time, the uprising was successful and the people set up their own senate, naming the leader of the revolution Imperator.
The empire that rose from the ashes was a far cry from what it started as. Citizens were finally equal and the aristocracy was all but decimated, save a loyal few. The senate was filled with the heroes of the revolution and after a century of the peoples rule, it has remained that way.

Technological Overview

Holographic communication- Usually housed in government buildings, it allows for one or a group of people to broadcast holographically in real time. It is used for political meetings when members cannot be physically present. It is also used in a military setting for communication between vessels but it is rarely used in the field due to the technology required. Affectionately called “Holonet” by locals

FTL Tech- The “Burst Drive” is the Imperium’s method of faster then light travel. It is fairly simple in its design and rather crude compared to other nations. It functions by creating ruptures, referred to in some sources as wormholes, between normal space and an alternate plane known as slipspace. The nonstandard physics of slipspace allow it to be used as a shortcut realm, Facilitating Interstellar travel between distant regions in reasonable time. The engine makes ruptures by using high-power cyclic particle accelerators to generate microscopic black holes. Because of their low mass, Hawking radiation gives them a lifetime of around a nanosecond. before they evaporate into useless thermal energy. In that nanosecond, the engine manipulates them into forming a coherent rupture between normal space and the slipstream. The downside to this is that these engines generate a huge thermal and radiation signature that can be picked up by any detector within range, making them easy to track.

Durasteel- A hard ore mined from the moons around Elysium, the ore is known for being extremely tough and nearly indestructible. Mining it requires heavy lasers and explosives.
Elementium- Found on most planets around Elysium, it is unusually flexible and when smelted with other ores can be extremely sturdy. Used for most purposes around the imperium.

Military-
The Imperium’s military is split into numbered Legions. All the legions are made up of 1000 centurions ( professional soldiers), two cohort regiments of 500 specialized soldiers ( Siege engineers, interrogation specialists, Mortars and Artillery engineers, Special Operations soldiers)
Scutum- Traditional shield of Romanum soldiers, usually used in a formation of interlocked shields to form walls. The Cathite legions have adopted the these shields for the Roman phalanx which is their primary battle formation. The shields are lined in Durasteel, encasing a ballistic gel substance, made to stop kinetic shells from penetrating. The shields are vacuum sealed and exposed gel hardens when it comes into contact with gas, preserving the integrity of the shield. These shields carry personal light shielding units to deflect energy based small arms fire.
Gladius- Standard Romanum short sword and primary weapon of soldiers, made from Durasteel and lined with a micro-tooth cutting edge.
Pilum- Throwing spear for soldiers, usually used while in a phalanx formation to begin an assault. The handle is made of a light alloy of aluminum and durasteel, sporting a hollow base to save weight. The tip is softened elementium, so that the weapon will bend and/or break upon hitting a body or shield.
Hasta- A spear made of hollow durasteel shaft with a solid tip, used for thrusting rather then throwing.
Type 1 pistol- Standard for all officers and those in “Special” roles, fires a kinetic bolt that is magnetically accelerated.
Scaled armor- The standard issue armor of the imperium military, it is made out of scaled durasteel with great resemblance to the Lorica segmentata and Lorica Squamata. Helmets are usually full head apparatuses with full heads up displays and environmental barriers. Armor underlay allows for users to survive in zero oxygen and zero-g environments.
Although Novrom soldiers like to rely on close combat they do posses advanced ranged weaponry. Most rifles are custom jobs and are usually only held by those in “special” positions.

#1: Your NS is extremely similar, and I mean extremely similar to the Roman Empire/Republic. Even if the Aliens got said information from the probe its unlikely they would literally completely base EVERYTHING in their society off Rome. More than likely it'd become a more folklore/cultural legend, like if humanity found an alien probe with their culture on it, we wouldn't suddenly start calling ourselves the Glorious BRUEDLGGSLG Empire of BLURRRRRRRRGGGG and all start dressing up as aliens from the 80's.

#2: The Voyager-1 (Or Voyager-2) probe did not have any mentions of Rome in the Golden Record.

What analseep is trying to say is that we'd feel more comfortable with the sheet if the names were changed. Not even a drastic change, but at least a shift from 'Roman Names' to 'Roman-esque Names'
