"One's energy in this life is meant to be spent, not hoarded!"Name: Shu Isamu (朱勇)
Age: 16
Appearance: Isamu is surprisingly tall for his age, standing at 1.75 metres (or in imperial units, five foot eight). His ruffled black hair is soft at the touch, the ends of each strand tipped with indigo dye. It exudes a sense of rebellion, and complements the purple contacts that he wears over his chocolate-brown eyes. He is quite handsome, possessing delicate features and a medium skin tone that betrays his Chinese ancestry. Build-wise, while by no means unfit, he is a rather lanky boy, weighing only a mere sixty-five kilograms.
Although usually found wearing his school uniform, the sixteen-year old boy has a preference for Hawaiian shirts, and on many weekends he takes to the streets in nothing but an overly-tacky blue t-shirt, brown trousers, and runners. Yet even so, he does possess some less casual outfits, such as a simple brown turtleneck or a grey t-shirt and bowtie combination. Fashion it seems, is not exactly his thing.
Arcana: Sun (XIX)
Personality: Cheery and upbeat, Isamu possesses a sense of boundless optimism for the future, rarely ever believing that misfortune will befall him (or if it does, not for long). The splendor of what life holds for him guides each and every one of his actions, seeking to achieve what some may describe as "enlightenment" in the process. It can be quite difficult to handle his boundless energy, but the sheer positivity of his character can be endearing from time to time.
Indeed, he is also a rather affable person, addressing those he meets with respect and kindness. To many figures of authority however, he displays his rebellious streak, refusing to conform to the traditional Confucian values instilled in him by his family (unsuccessfully at times). He doesn't want to be bogged down by his past, attempting anything imaginable to escape his expectations. Isamu also takes to these attempts with gusto, his exuberance and vitality applying also to ... less than ideal behaviours. Murder, theft, terrible puns ... all these actions have no sense of wrongness to him. If necessary, he will perform them with no regrets (after all, it was best to be enthusiastic, right?). It can be almost unnerving, watching such a nice, cheery boy commit horrors.
However, he isn't a very well-rounded thinker, incapable of coming up with plans of action without direction. He may have the vitality, but cannot properly act in times of stress. It is easy for anyone to spout off random trivia, but thinking far outside the box ... coordinating others .... leadership is not something that Isamu possesses. Nor are social skills - so wrapped up in his own life that it is incredibly difficult for him to connect with others, especially when he is such an overbearing person.
Isamu is also quite stubborn and set in his path when provided one.
Maybe that's why this joyful, somewhat sociopathic teenage boy is struggling in life.
Equipment/Skills: An avid hockey player, Isamu's skills have lent well to his survivability, with his experience using a hockey stick translating well to the usage of a bō staff (although his parents would say that his technique is absolutely horrendous). Sports has already provided him with surprisingly high stamina, which he puts to great use when running away at high speeds from whatever threatens his life.
Background: A native of Warakuma, Isamu was born to a Chinese father and Japanese mother (both of whom hailed from Kyoto), a fact that meant ostracisation from his peers for much of his early life. It was difficult for children (children who had inherited the ideals of their small-minded, xenophobic parents) to accept people who were different, and as such he would not make many friends (or at all - he never really knew if those he hung around were actually his friends or simply people who he enjoyed the presence of - but what was the difference? What was a friend anyway?). Yet he would not let the lack of friendships keep him down. He persevered through the local primary school mostly on his lonesome: there was no need for other people to help him.
In middle school, he would become a member of the hockey team, usually serving as one of the defensive players. Isamu was actually quite skilled in his role, although there were incidents in which he was too brutal in his actions, accidentally injuring either his fellows or opponent teams (the shattered knee wasn't
that bad, was it?). Because of this, however, he would find himself quite alone once more, his reputation preventing most people from approaching him.
Maybe now that high school has started, things will change~!
Persona: BudaiAppearance: The persona of Budai is surprisingly alien in comparison to all its representations in folklore. While still a being of immense girth, massive ears and a shit-eating grin, its body appears to be made out of a strange, metallic-rock substance, one littered with jagged cracks. Its signature cloth sack is covered with Sanskrit sutras, the same sutras that encircle its face, with two sets sealing its eyes closed like stitches. From time to time, eerie lights flash from its eyes, resonating with the symbols present on the large fan that lays upon its lap.
Abilities:
- Agilao: It deals fire damage to opponents.
- Estoma: The ability wards off enemies, reducing the chances of Isamu and any companions being attacked randomly in the field.
- Dream Needle: Throws needles at an opponent, dealing damage and possibly putting it to sleep.
