I suggest right now we all make commoners, mostly young folk, you know, at the start of their adventure.
You bring a sacrifice during the feast and one of the other players has his or her god aproach your character if he deems the sacrifice and character fitting to his style.
Then you make that character a champion and grant it some favor. The player who plays the champion then makes a more complete character.
An example:
A veteran soldier decides to retire as a farmer so he can take care of his newborn sons. So he sacrifices his shield and spear to the gods.
In response he receives a vision of a
Lantern Archon. With a hollow voice it proclaims that Adarn has chosen him, because he finds the man a fitting champion. He asks the man to take a vow that he will put the needs of kin and his town before his own.
The man takes the vow and Adarn blesses him with supernatural strength and endurance, as well as the ability to shed a bright light that frightens creatures with evil intent. (The key to giving powers is not 'power' but 'flavor')
The player who plays the veteran soldier makes a character sheet for his character as the champion of Adarn and makes sure his character art has an epic beard.
Alternatively you can make a champion character who has already been made a champion, in that case you PM the player who controls the god you want and discuss what the therms of service are.
I'm currently thinking about a looming threat to the village, one the gods of course are aware off but the villagers aren't. It'll strike when most players have a champion.
