Name of nation: The Big Horde of Communal Federal Unions and Democratic Republics of Oger. [Also simply known as Ogeria]
Species: Os and minority races from other civilizations
Artistic representation of a O and its ever edible child.
The Os are a species of spherical entities who lack any limbs, instead using telekinesis to manipulate objects and the environment around them and have no eyes or visible mouth; instead relying on radiative sense [whatever that means] to know where everyone is. They tend to look like large balls of raw flesh, however some ethnicities look a little better cooked, a couple look plain well done. The Os speak by making long, drawn out low tonal noises that can remind one of the noise made by electric bass or of someone saying "oh". They have never bothered to learn anyone else's language or even use a translator, instead desiring to just use their native language as a means of communication with the only real way to work with them being to simply infer what they are trying to say.
The Os reproduce by metamorphoses and consume food much like a single celled organism does. Their properties however limit them to moving like a ball can, however due to the amount of space opened by being a spherical body the Os have managed to become incredible good psychics and despite no one understand a word an O says, the O understands everyone else perfectly fine. There is some Os who are said to be able to read minds and usually shout in protest of insulting things they hear, but due to the self-imposed language barrier all one ever hears is a intense "OOOOH!" when it comes to matters like this.
The magical capabilities of the Os can get greater and greater depending on how many Os are stuffed into a small space, and due to their design quite a few can be stuffed into a space area like cargo. While Os need to eat [and often will cannibalize each other when lacking any other food sources] and need to be energized to keep their magic potent the more Os you have in a small area, the more extreme their magical powers get. Hence, they can collectively fly spaceships using just their minds.
Os psychologically due to their telepathy can communalize at will when the need exists, and it is this ability to communalize that allows them to fly their spaceships and use their technology overall. As a result a legion of Os can cause weapons of the enemy to misfire or jam if they are close enough and cause missiles to go in other directions. When there is only a few Os, they often will resort to using weapons that have internal firing mechanisms however.
Os on their diet often have blood, algae and fruit juice, sodas of varying source; as well as various kinds of hard drinks that tend to be consumed as much as any other food. Overall Os like to drink liquids or anything that they can absorb much like a sentient sponge. Caffeine is very important for Os to work, and they are constantly bathing themselves in soda imported from other alien societies or vassals along with sodas of their own design they can't export due to how awful it tastes to everyone else.
Description of government: Their governmental system is a very complicated hierarchal bureaucracy whose form of government keeps changing depending on the level of government one is at. For instance one layer of government is totally democratic, while another is a totalitarian police state. The government comes as the result of Os being psychologically unable to commit to one form of government like the less sane species. Instead, the Os just use whatever government they feel like using and the system is any system that the individual has subscribed to for the time being.
Their government however manages to be heavily centralized and is often compared to a federation while being more like a meritocracy with some totalitarian police state and technocracy sprinkled in with a quite a bit of socialism and capitalism depending on the government their citizens subscribe to.
Description of military: The military of the Os in space is made of almost completely spherical ships, which has allowed them to fill their ships to the brim with their kind. In doing so, their ships are completely ran by the magical energies of the Os within, who are very well fed and energized before taking flight and large reserves of food are kept inside just encase a trip goes too long. There is not really any concept of ship classification in O society, instead there are bigger spheres and smaller spheres with no actual specialization instead taking whatever combat role best suited for the time being. Often these ships will trail asteroids , space junk and comets in a ring around the sphere that is used to fling kinetic attacks at their enemies through acceleration their projectiles around the sphere and guiding them into the enemy. On the defensive their ships use energy barriers generated by the magical powers of the Os inside. They also tend to take control of missiles and fling back them at their enemy instead of simply intercepting them. The bigger the ship the more power they have and the larger energy threshold the craft has before enough projectiles cause the ship to break under pressure.
More advanced designs in recent use have included ships that can sense objects in other planes of existence, and be able to see a ship en route using FTL coming should the ship be activated. However they lack any means to intercept anyone in-warp; only be able to evade and react for when the enemy ship leaves warp space.
Technological Overview: The Os technologically have not much diversity, and have much technology they reverse engineered from their rather abusive engineer forefathers.
Among these technologies is the amplifier, a technology used to amplify telekinetic powers that is used in place of a engine on spaceships and also used on some O worlds as a means of transporting cargo and building large sky scrapers that tend to be like cubes as opposed to the rectangular prisms typically associated with skyscapers in other civilizations. Another example of tech would be their wheel ways- long winding tube-like structures that transport Os throughout their space stations and worlds. Thanks to the roll ways, there has been no practical application for cars. However, other vehicles like large radially symmetrical tanks that look like a large bottle cap that make use of magical acceleration devices [or MADs].
MADs are used on any combat vehicles be it the walkers or high flying planes. Their purpose is dual application; in being a field that causes objects to rapidly move away from the object with the device MADs have in many different designs been used for launching cargo into space, deflecting asteroids and other hostile projectiles and launching projectiles of their own at the enemy. Yet MADs, like amplifiers are limited to the amount of magical energy Os innately have; and the defense system is not perfect. For one plasma weapons can only be evaded by Os; they have no means to manipulate plasma yet.
One of the most important devices for the Os are the energizers, a battery-like device that
Cultural Overview: The Oger as a civilization is a very old, decadent one. Very often you'll find Os rolling up on each other in the streets, crime happens because Osec forces think it is funny to watch their fellow citizens get stabbed by a particularly angry O, and there have been many accounts of Os selling themselves in interstellar markets as pets for other civilizations; there being indirect purposes for this.
Os tend to enjoy diplomacy, preferring to react more than act in public cables while often being entertainers or specialized workers in societies where Os are acceptable.
Internally there is not much strife due to the military of the Os keeping their weapons aimed on civilians as well the massive amounts of bread and circus obtained through trade and prosperity from the highly valuable territories Oger have domain over.
The O also tend to play blood sports, and often parpicipate in blood sports in oher civilizations if possible.
Religion wise the Os seem to believe they don't really exist and therefore lack much qualms about being murdered or slaughtered. They however do care for being dominant; and they fear losing power more than dying by far. As a result, the suicide rate in Oger is amazingly high with 1 in 8 deaths being from suicide.
Immigration in Ogeria has been a messy process, and often minorities are regulated to X-species towns due to infrastructure in Ogerisa being made in ways that don't accommodate other races. As a result immigrant communities tend to not assimilate. However,t hey also tend to be under constant super vision and it is said that kill switches are put in every immigrant community that implode the whole town if necessary.
History: The Os are not a natural species, instead the folk only known as the Engineers made them as a toy to take their abuses on; a sentient punching bag they could watch a alien beast tear into and sense the pain the balls of flesh felt for their sadistic amusement. The Engineers as a race were some what magical, of which affected how they designed their torture toys; they made them have psionic organs in order to have them be tugged at using spatial forces to try turning the O inside out [turning a sphere inside out as it turns out is possible; but extremely painful if the sphere is alive. The various things the engineers did to the Os is near unspeakable; anything a sentient mind could think of some engineer did, for the Os were a product and were slaves in the most absolute way. While Os were ibntelligent, due to how spread out they were revolt was difficulty and always crushed by the Engineers.
However, the engineers suddenly would just die out and wither away. No one is completely sure why, but the general speculation on the matter by the Os is that the Engineers poked around with the inner workings of the universe too much, and accidentally eradicated their entire species as a result. These events happened thousands of years ago, and the accounts are dubious at best; other observers claim that a major war went on and that the Os managed to run off and form big enough groups ona world they called Oger where they silently constructed ships in justified paranoia that they'd get snuffed out. However, after the Engineers died out Oger managed to rapidly dominate the power vacuum left. And since that, no Engineers have ever been found again. Some say that the few survivors of the cataclysmic war were exterminated by the military of Oger as they expanded in the lost territories, but there is no concrete evidence due to how long ago the whole ordeal was.
Over the millenia the Os have advanced themselves considerably and developed technologies that worjk to their magical properties best; developing a charade of war machines that work through telekinetic manipulation and making a non-objective form of government that came as a result of the Os lacking any ability to come to a good agreement on the best kind of government.
Currently they are a moderate sized dominion that has built up a economy based around their unique talents being outsourced to other civilizations they are on good terms with while importing luxury goods from other civilizations. They however have from time to time gone on a spree of imperial fervor, and often like playing divide and conquer through one-sided trade and treaty-based dickery as opposed to direct conquest.
