Despite the gravity of the situation, Ashart really couldn’t bring it to himself to feel anxious about the coming test. While he did feel a certain amount of pride as one of the twelve students who were selected to take a special examination, and while he was happy that both his Firelight friends was also amongst the group…that was the extent of his emotions. He questioned the headmistress’s decision in a few of the first years selected, but that was all the irritation that he felt. The Chimp Faunus thought nothing of the harshness of the examination, and there was no fear in his eyes as Opal described the area in question.

Instead, he simply compartmentalized all the knowledge. Powerful Grimm in a ruined town. Lots of places to hide then. Partner is selected by first person whom they saw, essentially. Each pair took one of three match pairs of relics, and after collection, they were to be teleported away.

He secured the knot that tied his hair back, swung his Prefix Cide about experimentally, brushed a few specks of dust from his immaculately tailered suit, and then smiled once at Fir and Eurwen.

“Good luck, and take a cross.”
~
He landed on the farthest edges of town, where only a few piles of rubble laid scattered on the ground. A kilometer or so off, he could see the jagged cityscape, a skyline composed of broken towers and degenerated buildings. But Ashart couldn’t contemplate the solemn beauty that accompanied such a scene. On that cloudy, dreary day, the Grimm were swarming, weren’t they? Though the majority of the black abominations were most likely concentrated on the interior of the city of debris, there were still a fair scattering of Ursa who were growling about. With the slow, steady gait of an assured predator, a pack of those ordinarily solitary beasts began to approach from behind. Apparently, they believed that just because he had eyes meant that he couldn’t hear their panting growls or their rancid smell.

Seems like everyone in Vale was a shade of stupid, even the Grimm.

He wouldn’t underestimate them, but at the same time, there was little point in proving his strength to anything like a common Grimm. Allowing his head to swivel about in search of any hidden cameras, Ashart wondered where the professors of Beacon were watching, before concluding that they must have been using a satellite or the like. Or perhaps a sensory Semblance?

Then, the first Ursa lunged, leaping through the air with a snarl.

Ashart knelt down at that moment, allowing half a ton of mass to sail over his head, before leapfrogging over it, using the momentum of his jump to propel him into a run.

A casual movement, really. He might as well get in some cardio exercise while he got to the center of the ruined towns.

No need to kill what he could just outrun.

Press was geared up and ready for combat. His wrench and buckler were in his hands, and his goggles were on and operational. He had heard a few stories from the upperclassmen, and had created a few plans to deal with the challenges. Of course, the Headmaster had to say, "Whatever ideas you have about the test, forget them. You twelve will be set out to achieve a different objective," which sent those plans straight into his mental trash can. Press decided then that he had to improvise. Upon seeing white circle of runes, he was startled, wondering what was about to happen. After being teleported away, he quickly found himself disoriented and lost. That was to be expected, though, and after getting his bearings, he instantly set off in a random direction, hoping that he would complete the quest given to him.

Only minutes of pointless wandering later did he come across a pair of Beowolfs. They howled and lunged at him, claws outstretched to strike him. Press reacted by dodging to the side, then striking at the one closest to him on the head with his wrench. The one struck was disoriented, but the other leaped over its comrade and tried to swipe at Press. Press merely jumped back and held up his buckler, tilting it slightly to deflect the claws. This allowed Press to counterattack by striking its stomach. The blow knocked the Beowolf away a few feet, the creature clutching its stomach in pain. The one Press had hit earlier shook its head, then lunged to bite Press, who thrust his wrench into its mouth, keeping its jaws open.

As it backed off trying to get the wrench out of its mouth, the other Beowolf had moved to the side, being more cautious with him now, and proceeded to charge at him, eyes raging with fury. Press merely smiled as his right arm proceeded to transform into a long blade, twice the length of his forearm. He moved to the right, spinning as he did to build centrifugal force and slice off the top half of the Beowolf's head. The slain Beowolf collapsed onto the ground, while its comrade was still occupied with the wrench stuck in its mouth. It was shaking its head around and trying to open its mouth wider, all the while being completely unsuccessful in the process. Press tossed his buckler aside and had his left arm transform into a gun. Having his goggles lock onto the target, he fired a grenade right into the Beowolf's open mouth. The Beowolf began to choke, and then its head exploded, leaving a sizable hole where its head and torso was. As it collapsed onto the ground, Press found his wrench and was pleased to see that it was still in working condition, although just barely. He decided that in order to preserve it, he should save it until he could repair it.

With a sigh, he transformed his arms back into their normal form, then grabbed his wrench and buckler off the floor. Putting his wrench back onto his belt, a Boarbatusk charged from his left, taking Press by surprise. Reacting quickly, Press lowered his buckler to intercept the Boarbatusk's path. As they made contact, Press placed his other hand on the buckler's handle to keep his grip on his shield. The Boarbatusk squealed, then charged its spin attack. Press' eyes widened in surprise and he jumped out of the way as the Boarbatusk zoomed past him, straight into a wall, where it was stuck upside down, and more importantly, with its stomach exposed. Press took this opportunity to charge at it, his arm transforming back into its blade form, and stab the Boarbatusk, effectively killing it. "Phew," Press breathed out as he removed his blade from the Boarbatusk and transformed it back into his arm. Glad to see that his equipment was in such fantastic shape and that he was able to handle himself well, he continued onward, looking for anyone human or Faunus.

Indigo woke up and sat up to survey his surroundings, he saw that the majority of the students were still sleeping. “I guess everyone got too excited and fell asleep a bit later.” He looked to his side to notice Lupe sleeping near him, “How'd he even find me amongst all the other students?” He scratched his head as he finally got up to get changed before getting stopped by someone. It was Professor Pewter, “Did I get in trouble? Did someone tell you I was an accomplice to something? I swear I just met -” She cut him off and told him to meet at Beacon Cliff at 10 before walking away. “Am I getting punished?” he sighed as he took a mental note of the meeting.

After the little confrontation, Indigo felt a bit uneasy but shrugged it off as he changed into a new outfit. In his new not-stained-clothes. he walked out the halls to be met with a slowly rising sun. Taking a deep breath of air, he proceeded to walk around the campus to pass the time, hoping not to run into any trouble before 10.

Soon enough, after all his walking he headed towards Beacon Cliff.

As Indigo was lined up with all the other students his first thoughts was, “Really? How are we ALL in trouble?” recognizing some familiar faces amongst the students such as the boy who pushed him away from the explosion, the boy and girl who were unaffected by it, and of course Lupe and Kay. As soon as the headmaster announced that he was going to be one of the first of the new students to take a test, his tension dropped. “Oh. It's just a test.” He thought to himself as he listened to the headmaster before she stopped and plucked a hair off a girl with a red hood “Was there a reason...for that?”.

As she further explained the test, the only thing Indigo could think of was if he could just not partake in such a dangerous trial, but the aura around the headmaster kind of diminished his thought as he could only imagine what she was capable of doing to him if he objected. He sighed as went over the objectives in his head and tried to think of what he should exactly be doing in such a test. Survival was probably the top objective for him.

He was brought back from his thoughts as the headmaster snapped and a white circle appeared below teleporting him to the abandoned city.

“Dark.” He thought as he opened his eyes to the scene before him. The area was rather cramp as well and he couldn't exactly tell where he had been transported to. “Did she make a mistake?” as he stretched out both his arms to surprisingly find that he could touch both sides of the room. It was like he was trapped in a small box. “I knew I was in trouble. That headmaster is probably laughing at me from somewhere right now. And I seriously thought that I was going to take a test.” He sighed as he tried to feel his surroundings, his hand met with a rather familiar feeling. “Porcelain? ” he thought as he pushed down on the porcelain to heard a slight crack followed by a few more cracks foreshadowing upcoming trouble for the poor student.

As his eyes adjusted to the darkness he instantly realized where he had been sent to. A run down bathroom with large amounts of dust covering the porcelain toilet and sink, along with a extremely dusty mirror with a decorated wooden border. It was hard to tell how the walls were decorated and what was spread over the floor. The sound of more crackling started to rapidly fire off in the room, he quickly looked around the ground of the toilet as deep cracks began to form on the floor of the bathroom. “Wouldn't that mean I'm on an upper floor of a building? I guess I wasn't in trouble she just teleported me to a rather strange location” Quickly realizing that if the section of the building were to fall, he could expect dozens of Grimm coming to inspect the source of the sound.

”Cool!”

His eyes widened at the sound and volume of the familiar voice under him. Within the few cracks that gave him a small view of the street below, he recognized the girl who had seemed to be unaware of what she had done. “I'll be sure to remember you Kaesi-” as he was trying to pronounce her name he accidentally bit his tongue causing the young student to accidentally let out what he thought was a light stomp. As the room he was in began to rumble once more letting in more vision of the street below.

Three Beowolves came out to face the young girl and rather than running she stood fast and slammed her weapon onto the street as if to challenge them. The center Beowolf made an attempt to lunge her as she simply dodged it and punished the creature fatally as the sound of the blow resonated through the empty streets. He also noticed if he were to disconnect the weakened parts of the bathroom from the building he could land on top of one of the Beowolves but the idea didn't sound too appealing to him at the moment.

One of the remaining Beowolves let out a loud howl, Indigo instantly knew the purpose of such a howl and quickly with no hesitation slammed onto the weakened wall of the restroom with all his strength dragging a small chunk of the abandoned bathroom's floor along as well. He landed on top of the Beowolf that was originally calling for reinforcements, the sound of the landing was rather gruesome as the body of the Beowolf was flattened from the impact. Indigo stood up from the rubble sustaining no injuries from such an action since he deployed a bit of his aura to reinforce his defense. More and more Beowolves appeared from thick brushes between the buildings as if answering to the call of their fallen comrade.

He looked at the girl, who was probably his partner now. He was rather interested with her fighting style, but that kind of stuff should be stored in the back of his head for now. It was either time to fight or retreat from such a rather large group of Beowolves. “Trouble. I'd prefer we run, Kay. If we could.” He said to the girl behind him as he slowly crept back from the group of creatures.

Pass or Die.

“I guess she really meant it.” He thought to himself as the numbers of Beowolves keep on growing.

Lupus woke up his sword was still beside him laying flat. Lupus Changed into back into his preferred cloths due to the fact they where light and comfortable and fitted his standards of combat. he looked at his luggage and pulled out the spare Sheath for his sword he harnessed it to his back. he sighed it felt good to have it back where it belonged Lupus stood up his legs felt a little weak because of having a long sleep he noticed the Woman who he had now realized was professor Pewter Renowned huntress. She was talking to indigo about some trials "oh shes talking about the forest trials" Lupus said time-skip to lineup

Lupus was wrong dead wrong. he was chosen along with the others for a non-tested new trial he was looking around Their was gen and that winged girl from the aircraft and of cause indigo and KK. and some other students he had never met. Lupus looked at Pewter who was laying out the objectives "The objective is to get to the church located in the center of the city. Inside there will be six relics that are placed at the alter. Each pair takes one relic. There are two of each of the following: a cross, a small gargoyle, and a wooden spoon. No doubt you will face monsters in your path that are set to protect them. They are some kind of source of dark energy we want you to bring back so we can destroy it. You are by all means authorized to use deadly force. If you don't well, you know what happens. After all six relics are retrieved, it will activate a spell that will transport you back to this cliff. Be warned however. If there is any presence of the Grimm withing 20 meters of you, the spell will deactivate and you will be trapped there. We will not be coming to get you."

Those last words made lupus hesitate he looked left and right like a cornered dog wanting to run but he stayed fast as the ruins began their incarnation. Their was a Flash of white And Lupus was outside on a cracked cobble street. his eyes drifted across his surrounding's most of the buildings where wrecked. Lupus walked slowly Analyzing the nooks and crannys for Grimm. He had walked for at least 10 minutes before a Whistling sound caught his attention. he saw a bird Trapped in a Wall he went to free it but he was 2 late. A Ursa Crushed it flat Lupus looked at it with a Look of rage. In a couple of seconds the Ursa was dead Lupus panted as he saw 5-6 other Ursa looking at him Angling him waiting for the time to STRIKE! A large one lept at him Lupus rammed his single sword through its uncovered belie he let go of the sword as the Ursa fell because of the wight of such a beast. his eyes Glanced at the others "Come at me i won't hold back I have no need to We are alone Im not afraid to break anything because theirs nothing of value to break So now i can finally let loose..." Lupus said as 3 of them Roared and charged Lupus removed gemini from the carcass of the largest one. he then used his semblance to be propelled backwards giving him a reasonable distance. The 3 ursa where running not towards a helpless faunus disguised as a human They where running towards their death.

Lupus threw the black thread away as Gemini assumed its true form The twin blades glistened in his hands. A ursa Threw down its Knife like paws Lupus held it back with the swords in a X Shape. He kicked the Ursa in the stomach causing it to temporarily recoil He cut it in half he looked to the left a Ursa was charging towards him What he didn't see was the one behind him He was thrown sideways by the force of the blow he could only take so many of those before he was cut in half. Lupus panting Ran towards the Ursa who had Thrown him And brutally Slashed it till it collapsed. His Eyes Feral with anger and pain like a cornered animal Stared at the Ursa before him If it was smart it would run. and run it did not. Lupus was getting Annoyed he couldn't use his semblance again or he would not have enough strength to survive another attack He ran towards the ursa who swiped at him he lifted one sword to parry before Stabbing the ursa in the throat The beast stumbled roaring a horse dis-toned roar it collapsed on its back and lupus mercy killed it.

Lupus sat down beside the Lifeless Ursa He needed five minutes rest That battle was hectic he lay their scoffing annoyed that he had fallen for such a distraction... he was unaware of a Beowulf Slowly and silently creeping up from the other end of the street...

_::A New Day; Vask's Room::_

Waking up was a rather exciting matter in Vask's room. While many had wandered and chatted upon reaching the school and getting through the opening ceremony he had simply waited until it was allowed and then hurried to bed. Jet-lag was nothing to toy with, and he knew his own limits well enough to succumb to the gentle embrace of slumber when it beckoned and he was near a bed.

Of course; given his usual energetic nature this made the eventual breakaway from sleep's clutches quite the noisy affair. "Hn!" He exclaimed as he sat bolt upright, his head whipping side to side as he tried to get a good view of his surroundings. A moment later he loosed a large sigh as his brain, still in the process of getting up, alerted him that he hadn't yet opened his eyes. When he did and it was still dark he flailed at the covers like a kitten batting at a ball of string until they assented to vacate his face... Unfortunately an instant later he realized just how close to the edge of the bed he'd been when he began flailing as his body suddenly pitched to the left and the floor rocketed up to meet his face. "Urffh!" Came the groan of mild pain as he hit the ground, managing to turn his head in time that rather than smashing his nose he merely slapped his cheek against the floor.

Still; the jolt of hitting the floor was just the catalyst he needed to really get moving, and after it happened he was on his feet in seconds, and rushing through the morning's preparations. Having not bothered to unpack the night before he hastily dug through his bags and grabbed a clean set of clothes and his toothbrush and shower kit before making his way to the restroom, idly scratching at his stomach as he went.

The shower was refreshing and turned his hair from something that looked as though it had been left behind after the onslaught of a tornado into it's usual fuzzy mess once it was dried. The little aches and twinges in his back and shoulders from sleeping on a new matress(and subsequently falling on the floor) had been borne away by the heat of the water and left him revitalized. His fresh breath after brushing was it's own reward.

Returning to his room he prepared his arms and armor for the day... The trial was upon them, after all, and his mother had informed him it would include a bit of a melee; though not much beyond that. Fitting the armguards into place and tightening the straps he pondered whether he would be seeing more of the salamander girl for about half a moment; after which his mind trailed off to other things like smacking the boy who had been brandishing blades on the plane in the head for his dangerous idiocy if he ran into him, or meeting his new team-mates whomever they might be. By the time his drifting thoughts settled his chestplate and leg-guards were snugly fitted in place and he nodded approvingly before slotting ammo-clips into the open and waiting slots on his leg-guards. His weapon, for the time being, was still enclosed in the metal case which he hefted over his shoulder as he walked out the door.

_::Playing by New Rules; Beacon Cliffs::_

Upon reaching the cliffs Vask realized he was the last to show up and silently swore to himself he would spend less time daydreaming when next he had to be somewhere on time... A promise he'd made himself many, MANY, times in the past and failed to uphold but one he had made a valiant effort towards each time.

The headmistress and one of the teachers, both of whom had been introduced at the assembly the day before, were present when they got to the cliffs and very soon began to discuss the exam... Which was good considering that in the few minutes beforehand Vask was wondering if the 'melee' portion of the exam his mother had brought up might somehow involve shoving his fellow students off the cliff... Or being shoved off himself. His mind drifted to scenes of prolonged falling and intense pain as his body hit the water like it was a block of cement, but he managed to shake them off shortly after the introductions were over, when the speaker changed to Pewter, causing him to refocus shortly.

Glancing around at those assembled he quickly assessed the eleven other students participating and tried to place them from the ride over the day before; some were simple, some he had no clue of, but none had particularly stood out in his mind as good material for a partner. Luck of the draw, then. He told himself, intending not to actively seek a given individual.

By the end of things his mind was beginning to drift, but he managed to get the important bits. Grab a relic, don't be near Grimm when all of them are taken hold of; simple enough.

As they were wished luck he silently nodded his thanks to the headmistress for the gesture, whether sincere or not, and was about to ask how long before they set out before a light at his feet alerted him to the presence of a suddenly manifested amalgam of runes. "Well that's something you don't see ev..."

_::with New... Friends?; The Ruined City::_

"...ery day." He thought to himself, realizing with minute shock that about halfway through his sentence his surroundings had changed completely. Neat trick. He mused before deciding that standing in the middle of the street probably wasn't the best idea.

Working his way along he was careful to stick close to walls, his head darting at each little sound, even those he himself made it seemed. The going was quiet for perhaps a minute before he saw the first of the Grimm; namely, a gang of Beowolves.

As Grimm went they weren't much, one of the lowest order of the creatures, but he realized quickly that they weren't just moving aimlessly... they were after something. Listening intently he heard sounds of conflict not too far off and realized that one of his fellow classmates must be in the midst of a fight, meaning that these things would only make more of a hassle for them.

He grinned and began to run, hastening down a side-street and away from the creatures. As he ran he popped open the straps on his weapon's case, the case itself snapping into place along the back of his chestplate as he drew out Pikne, expanding it into a polearm with a few simple flicks of the wrist and the press of a button.

He had run fast and hard, faster than the Beowolves as they still seemed a bit uncertain about which wa they were headed exactly and were loping about at a lessened pace the closer they got to their target, trying to narrow in, sniffing at the air.

Some had pulled ahead as they went. One far afront was leading, three had gotten bunched up in the middle, and the last two were ambling behind. He bolted out of the street as fast as his legs would carry him and before the stragglers had a moment to react he was shoulder-tackling one of them, the other finding Pikne's blade wedged in it's throat was unable to utter a howl or a bark or even a yap of distress as it's body was pulled down a side-street. Even if the other creatures turned 'round they would notice nothing, the less than clever beasties likely just thinking their pack-members slow.

The first died easy as Pikne kept moving, slicing clean through the neck and glancing off the ground. The second took a bit more effort. The tackle had left it winded, but it wasn't for long. It drew in a breath to cry out, or snarl, Vask wasn't quite sure which. In all honesty it didn't matter as suddenly his palm collided with the creature's neck and it made a harsh gurgling noise and began to scratch at it's throat, unable to breathe right. As it staggered back he took note of it's stance and made his move. Flicking his wrist the polearm known as Pikne arced along the ground until it was just in front of the gasping creature; turning it blade upwards Vask took a step forwards and whispered fondly; "Goodbye, Beowolf, I hardly knew ye." His words were followed by a hard upwards slash that cut the creature down the middle. Four more, then we can go see who it is causing all the ruckus. With this in mind he bolted off down the street once more.

The leader had gotten ahead in the time he'd let them run, but the three were still together, meaning he could strike them easily enough. He had attempted planning at the forefront of things because he knew that it was stupid to take on more than you could chew, and he wasn't sure of the Grimm's strength exactly, but feeling more confident he decided it would be best simply to rush the remainder.

Of course; by that point they had realized something was wrong and were on guard.

As he bolted out of the side-street, his blade singing through the open air two of the creatures backed up whilst the third leapt straight for him, it's snapping jaws closing down on his upper arm and thankfully only scratching up his armor. Instants later it was gone, having practically impaled itself, but it set a precedent that continued throughout the battle. A quick darting slash at one of the creatures and the other would bolt in at him. He blocked and the first beast would be on him in it's turn. Tactics. Not very difficult ones, mind you, but tactics nonetheless. Something his mother had stressed the importance of in battle, but which he often got bored of and gave up on as he had in this situation.

Come on, blockhead; do something smart. He scolded himself, glancing between the two creatures quickly. Grumbling in irritation he leapt back, gaining himself a modicum of room and threw his weapon at one of the creatures. It yapped in surprise and attempted to swat at the oncoming projectile, and as suspected the other creature rushed in. It met his fist nose-first and yelped in surprise, this in it's turn was exacerbated by the fact he suddenly grabbed it's wrist as it flailed one claw at him and flipped it up and over. It landed on it's back stunned and he brought his foot down on it's neck, hard enough to end it.

Turning his head he had to let himself fall to the floor to avoid being struck by the other, which had recovered itself from his weapon-toss swiftly and tried to rip his head off. Instead it scored a glancing blow across his cheek that drew blood but wouldn't do any lasting damage. Still; it made a point. Even the most lowly Grimm was still dangerous. "Should have run." He said to the creature, his legs raising as it tried to leap at him and kicking it clear up and over his body. He scrambled to his feet and ran to his weapon, hearing the thing snarling behind him, hearing it's claws striking the ground as it charged towards him. Polearm in hand once more he flipped it 'round and just before the beast struck he took a step backwards towards it, shoving the blade out under his arm and into the creature's torso. It struggled, but he wrenched his body to the right and twisted the weapon's handle, splitting the creature and granting it a timely demise. One more.

As he finally got the last of the creature's back in his sights it was too far to hit. Someone, facing away from him, was completely ignorant to it's existance. "Damn..." He muttered under his breath as he pressed a button that triggered Pikne's transformation. The handle drew inwards, the blade sank into the butt-end of a rifle, and out folded a long ringed barrel. As he cocked the gun and dropped to one knee he quickly attempted to assess the distance, one eye closing as he sighted along the barrel and tried to aim at the moving target... Shaking his head he moved the gun off the creature and into it's path; counting seconds in his head as he attempted to assess the creature's speed. Thankfully it was attempting to be stealthy, or else his limited skill with the weapon's rifle form would have been for naught.

4...3...2... Where 1 would have sounded he pulled the trigger; his weapon sparking as he did so and the bullet tearing off at great speed. The Beowolf didn't come to a sudden stop as he'd hoped, but it was done for none-theless. His bullet struck along the back of the skull and the creature slumped forwards, skidding along the ground and coming to a shuddering stop just behind the seated individual.

"You should really pay better attention to your surroundings." Vask called out in what he hoped was a friendly tone as he walked towards the individual he had just saved, noting a few things. Firstly; the downed Ursa. Secondly, that it was the guy from the ship who had been a walking impalement hazard. And thirdly; that according to the rules, unless this guy had met someone else beforehand they were now partners. His shoulders slumped a bit. That's just lovely... "Partner..." He said half-heartedly.

Lupus head jerked up as he heard the Gunshot as the Beowulf carcass skidded towards him. His eyes were slightly drooped because of using his semblance but they focused quickly and Lupus noticed the Slaughterer of the Beowulf and a pack laying dead in the distance. ""You should really pay better attention to your surroundings." The Kid who seemed Older then him Said. "Yea Well Im kinda tired from taking on a small pack of Ursa and using my semblance" Lupus said standing up So this was the guy he would be partnered with. The guy seemed capable of dragging his own weight and had a epic looking weapon. Lupus sheathed Gemini together as a Single sword.

"Partner..." He heard the Guy say halfheartedly . "i guess Since your the first person i have seen in this wasteland" Lupus told him while wiping his head which was sweating a bit. because of the Strain he had committed himself to during that fight his eyes slowly drifted down the street and Lupus began to walk. his mindset had drifted out of fighting and back into casual Lupus turned back to face the guy "By the way I owe you one for the Beowulf's. Also before i forget The names Lupus argentum" Lupus said while looking around to try and get his bearings of where he was to have a easier way of navigation.

There had never been a time that the Faunus had felt more ready. After her first day jitters, she was back to her old self, eager for some action, and brimming with confidence. Unlike some of the other students that were covered in head to toe with armor, Eurwen was still wearing her clothes from yesterday. Seeing as this was her battle uniform, she didn’t see the need to put anything new on. Besides, her clothes were sure to get especially dirty today. Listening carefully as Professor Pewter stepped up and began to inform them their test, Eurwen stretched her legs, bouncing back and forth in a low squat.

"The objective is to get to the church located in the center of the city. We will not be coming to get you.

Pulling her arms in front of her chest and stretching her shoulder, a wide grin sat along her face. It didn’t matter to her if some mistook it for cockiness, Eurwen had been anticipating this day for a long time, and nothing was going to stop her from enjoying it. Even if they were being thrown into dangerous waters. This was what she had been training for, after all. Casting a glance at the other students around her, white runes began to coil around their shapes, teleporting them separately into the unknown region.

Brown eyes flicked over her friends, catching sight of smile along the Chimp Faunus' face, “Good luck, and take a cross.” With Asharts last words in mind, the same runes swept around her, blinding her in a brilliant light as she was teleported off the cliffs.

Falling into a low crouch once her feet touched the ground, Eurwen found herself in a dark room, which she assumed was probably in an abandoned office building. Glancing back and forth around the room, her eyes flickered gold, a trait most Faunus had due to night vision. Dust, dirt, and what looked like old blood caked the windows, blocking out any light from entering the room. Desks were thrown over, broken pieces seemed to be mauled and covered in scratches, while old broken machinery and paper covered in soot and dust laid along the floor.

If there was anything in the room it would have attacked by her, but the Faunus knew better then to make any sudden movements in such a dangerous area. Considering how blinding the runes had been when they had teleported her, she was surprised nothing from the outside had become curious. Crouching through the room and getting a better look at her surroundings, a steady hand sat along the grip of Arcadius. This was her evaluation after all, and she didn’t want to look unprepared in front of the headmistress, or her partner.

Looks like there’s nothing in here.

Deciding to check the room beside her, she took a small breath and pressed against the wall. Oblivious to any danger within the next room, untamed blonde locks slipped through first before her entire head creeped past the drywall in curiosity. Unprepared for what met her on the other end, at least a dozen Beowolves were curled up amongst each other, grunting in there sleep and completely unaware of their now terrified intruder.

Slapping a hand on her mouth before she could lose her breath, and lose her head between the wall, Eurwen threw herself back into the room landing hard on the ground. “Oh crap..” At first there was nothing but silence from the other room, but as she stood and began to take slow steps back, growls and grunts became progressively louder. Twisting around and breaking out into a sprint, the rotting wall behind her exploded in plume of drywall, and debris as a pack of Beowolves came charging out.

Gasping for air and activating her semblance once again, she ghosted through the wall. Phasing through desks and cubicle dividers, nothing stood in her way or broke her footing. The beowolves were persistent however, busting through the second wall with menacing snarls, they kept right at the Rabbits heels, sending desks and office supplies flying. Counting the seconds in her head as she ghosted through wall after wall, Eurwen found herself in the corner office, surrounded by nothing but windows. “Shit—“ There was a chance outside the window was nothing but a drop but with no where else to go, she pulled out Arcadius and began to fire at the glass.

Cutting through the silence of the dead city, three gun shots rang out from the building, as glass fell from the seventh story window and Eurwen came diving out along with it. Soaring above the street below, her body descended down two stories right for the roof of another building. Bracing herself for impact and waving her arms out, her knees took the blow of the fall as she tumbled into a somersault. Not missing a beat, Eurwen rolled to the ball of her feet, skidding to a halt as she was pulled with the momentum.

The Beowolves came soaring after her, jumping out of the window and down to the roof. Standing up quickly, and drawing Arcadius from its thigh strap, Eurwen took aim. Firing off two shots, the first bullet sunk deep into a Beowovles skull, killing it instantly, while the second shot sent its limp shape flying back and off the building. Two others met the same fate before they could land on the roof of the building, however Eurwen had little time to take out any of the others.

Surrounded by at least ten Beowolves, a snarl ripped out from the pack as a single beast decided to take her on, causing adrenaline to flood through her veins. "Here we go.~"

Gripping the hilt of Euythmia with her right hand and keeping her eyes locked with the charging Beowolf, her left foot slid out as she took a strong stance. Claws, and teeth drawn, Eurwen drew the blade as the Grimm towered above her in a pounce. Twisting her body clockwise with the rotation of her foot, steel met flesh and fur, cutting easily through the creature as it fell into two separate bloody clumps.

Earning a roar from the group and two more charging at her, Eurwen quickly took to the offensive. Rushing at her from the front, she evaded a swipe with casual step back and without missing a beat, her left hand snatched the beasts wrist. Wrapping her arm around its bicep, and locked her right leg around its neck as she threw herself up, a sickening snap came from its shoulder as she threw her weight forward, tossing the injured beast into another. Landing in a kneeling position, with one knee on the ground, she flicked her wrist, twirling Euthymia into a reverse grip as two more rushed forward.

Slapping her palm and sword against the roof, her left leg swung back, evading a pounce as the heel of her boot kicked into the Beowolves back. Swiping her sword forward as it shrieked across the cement floor, the blade sliced through the seconds neck, severing its head as it landed with in a bloody lump. Grinning as the fight progressed, Eurwen hopped back, corned at the edge of the building. As much fun as she was having, she knew she wasting time playing around on the roof. By now the others were probably already grouping up, which meant that her chances of partnering up with Ashart, or Fir were growing slim.

Eyeing another rooftop behind her, she placed a foot along the edge and waved at the pack, "Listen boys, it's be fun, but I thinks it time for me to leave this party.~" With a snarl from the Grimm, Eurwen dropped the next roof and broke out into a run with the Beowolves quickly following in pursuit. Jumping from building to building, the Faunus tried her best to lose the pack, but even as she made it out to the street, they were still behind her. With the way things looked, she was going to need to confront them.

Sheathing Euythmia and drawing Arcadius, she came skidding to a halt with a black ambience surrounding her. Aura activated and using all her weight, she twisted around catching the leading Beowolf off guard as her fists slammed into its jaw. Crushing its face and sending it flying back into another. Despite being effective, she had little time to evade or counter a second attack, as another Beowolf rushed from the side and slung at her.

Taking a quick breath before the impact, Eurwens used the hit to throw her body to the side, sending her phasing through the wall and leaving the pack behind. Tumbling through the other side, and breaking down the drywall as she lost her breath, the Rabbit rolled onto the street, holding her ribs with a painful grunt. "Geez'.. that's gonna leave a mark."

KK's backpeddaling brought her near to a blown out building: an old storefront with gaping holes replacing the windows and a few piles of twisted metal and junk that were once large display shelves. Sensing a path of escape, one of the Beowolves leapt over some rubble and cut off her entrance to the building, giving her a vicious snarl as if pleased it had outwitted her. That rather clever Grimm was promptly smashed into nothing as the ruins above it came down on its head along a piece of a toilet and a rather dust-covered boy.

"Indy!" Kaesey cheered as she recognized her friend, giving him a big wave though she never let her flail stop spinning. "Ooh! Does this mean we're partners?! Do you have a thing with getting your clothes dirty? And hey, were you on the toilet before the building broke? That's kinda weird, Indy, you shoulda gone before we left..." The questions came forth at a rapid pace and completely distracted her from the remaining Beowolf, who took the opportunity to lunge at her from the side. Refocusing on the fight, KK dropped a foot back and used the motion to whip her opposite should forward. This carried the flail forward as well and as the beast bore down on her from the air she pressed a tiny button on the metal hilt. With a light hum the motor inside the weapon's head came to life and let out a length of chain for every second her finger remained pressed. It whipped forward in an upward ark and smashed into the bottom of the Grimm's jaw, snapping its mouth shut and sending it wheeling right over her head. Before the weapon completed its rotation, and the flail head went straight into the ground behind her back, she deftly pressed a second button which drew the chain in and let the spinning continue as it had before. "Hmmm... I suppose you're probably right, partner!" She muttered as the Beowolf finally struck the ground and dissipated. A dozen more howls filled the air, seeming to come from every direction as the pack was called to the 'prey'. "Lets go that-a-way!" Kaesey's musical voice cheered as she started jogging off down a street that looked particularly 'center-of-city'ish. Down the opposite street half a dozen slathering Beowolves came into view.

Waking came slowly to Oren as it always did. He blinked several times to clear his vision and took a look around the room slowly as he took everything in. The sun had yet to rise over the horizon, but the fading night sky told him it wouldn’t be long. Snores, grumbles, murmurs, along with every other noise involuntarily made in one’s sleep filled the dining hall. Some students were awake and moving around, stepping cautiously to avoid waking their peers; for the most part the new arrivals were still fast asleep. Oren did not plan to rejoin them though, so he stifled a small yawn then got up and away from the comforts of the still-warm mattress.

A cloud of fog came with every breath. The sun was over the horizon by now, but the temperature had yet to climb enough that the air wouldn’t be called chilly. Several laps around the Academy had proven enough to wake him up and get the blood flowing, though with the upcoming initiation he hadn’t really pushed himself. Considering he had seen a fair number of students exit the dining hall on his last lap around, Oren figured it was about time to eat and get ready.

“... and Oren. You twelve will be reporting to Beacon Cliffs at 1000 sharp. That is all.” With that, the white-haired professor turned to walk out of the dining hall. He had just arrived, pulling the door open to catch the last few words she said.

“Interesting…”
Though Oren’s attire had not changed much, appearance-wise at the least, its composition was very different. He still wore a coat over his white collared shirt, and a pair of grey trousers. Black boots were his footwear of choice while he had also chosen a pair of black gloves to wear. Not too far from a civilian look, but civilian’s didn’t have military-grade coats, gloves, and boots. His weapons hung off him: his sword sheathed at his hip, the pistol and knife to his thighs, and the assault rifle on his back. It was more equipment than a soldier carried, let alone a normal Hunter, but if it hampered him, Oren’s movements didn’t show it. Instead, he stood there with a blank expression and hands in his coat pocket as the Headmistress spoke. He let that part glide overhead and chose to focus on what the professor what to say instead, deeming the brief to be much more important.

To be honest, it didn’t really seem all too different from what he had heard about Beacon’s initiation. Oh, some of the details had been changed around, but overall the basic objective was still the same. Regroup after arrival, advance towards objective, retrieve said object, clear and secure the immediate area, and wait for extraction. Straight forward enough, but complications were no doubt simply waiting around the corner to crop up. What Oren was most concerned about, given the information they had received, was the possibility of the extraction spell failing due to the presence of Grimm. Such a situation would be unfortunate to put the least. He had barely a moment to contemplate how they were going to arrive at their destination before white filled his vision as the runes expanded outwards from underneath his feet.
His vision returned, and Oren immediately dropped to the ground and took a knee. He was in an alley overrun by undergrowth, and a few moments were needed just to collect himself. A variety of scents in the air, the noises that just barely reached his ears, among more information that he took in and processed. Aside from the soft sound of wind blowing through grass, Oren heard little in the immediate surroundings. Nevertheless his rifle was pulled free and loaded, a magazine fitted in place at the weapon’s rear. Chambering a round, Oren took a deep breath and sighed before finally standing up and moving forward. All the buildings nearby seemed rather tall, so if he wanted to find out where he was and needed to go, well… height would be required.

Poking his head around the corner, Oren did a quick sweep of the street. Plenty of plant life dominated the once urban region, nature having reclaimed it with time. No signs of Grimm caught his attention though, so quickly he moved into the nearby building. The dusty air that rushed out when he forced the door open was quite relieving and annoying at the same time. Stifling the cough with an annoyed grimace, Oren moved inside and up the stairs quickly. His footsteps resounded through the empty halls and though he kept vigilant, nothing showed up to put him to the test. Luckily enough, despite portions of the outside wall being completely gone and exposing areas inside to the weather, the stairwell was wholly intact. The rooftop door required a bit of force to break open, namely a shoulder rush that forced the old piece clean off its hinges and clattering to the roof.

“Shit.”

It wasn’t exceptionally loud, but the metal door made a bit of a ruckus that carried through the surroundings. Though he heard no response, no howling Beowolves to an intruder, Oren didn’t hope that it had just gone unnoticed. At the very least though, now that he was here, he would see anything coming down the streets or alleys towards him. With that in mind, he began to scan the ruined city. Apparently luck was on his side, at least partially, given that he had been deposited within the city fairly close to their destination. It would likely take him only a few minutes to reach the church if he moved on top the roofs and wasn’t interrupted. Something he noticed forced him to turn his attention elsewhere though...

Glancing at the mass of downed Ursa the copper-haired kid sighed and nodded in agreement. It was obvious that it had been his handiwork as he was still amidst their dead, and even more to the point there was fur clinging to his clothes. "That may be the case, but 'tired' is a luxury we really can't afford to take with the sheer number of enemies around here." Speaking of time it was readily apparent that the sooner they got their relic and got out the better. The Beowolf had been drawn by the sounds of Lupus' fight with the Ursa, and any moment now more Grimm could come rounding the corner searching for the source of the gunshot... It had been fairly loud, even when compared with his earlier combat. Noise buffering would have to be more focused on when he reworked Pikne next time.

"I mean; if I hadn't been around you would have been wolf-chow, and considering how many of these guys seem to be in the city the odds are I won't always be around. I might get picked off and eaten as we round the next corner. Or we could be split up and suddenly find ourselves being chased down blind alleys only to be impaled on the tusks of rampaging Boarbatusks. Better yet we could wind up being jumped by a bigger pack of Beowolves and completely swarmed over, not noticing more Ursa amongst the numbers and not being prepared when their massive paws slice open our bellies. Or heck; we could survive near disembowelment by all the horrors this city has to offer only to be picked up by a passing Nevermore and dropped to our deaths a hundred feet below as we panicked and attempted to come to terms with the fact we were no longer on the ground." His eyes were a bit distant as he said all this, honestly contemplating his own demise in a roundabout way. It was an interesting, if morbid topic. Still; it could happen.

For now of course he didn't have time for such thoughts, especially considering he was fairly certain he could hear the scratching and scraping of claws on asphalt not far off. There were more, all around; whether they were aware of the presence of himself and his partner he was unaware, but they were close. The entire city, it seemed, was teeming with Grimm around every corner; much more than he had initially expected.

"Vask." He replied with a courteous, if slightly uncomfortable nod. Pink eyes flashed from beneath his bangs, glancing at Lupus' sword and then at the Ursa once more, causing him to worry a bit. The strikes seemed deep but erratic and he gave himself a mental reminder not to stand too close to his new partner in a fight, just in case. "My name is Vask." He didn't bother looking at his ally as he said this, instead turning his head this way and that, attempting to listen for something else, some small hint that they were headed in the right direction.

Grumbling impatiently he turned his head towards what he roughly estimated was the city's center and nodded to himself. That was the way to go if he had to guess, which considering their less than stellar instructions he did. Looking to one of the dilapidated buildings he grinned to himself and walked over, taking hold of an exposed wall beam that had been split some time ago. With a slight grunt of effort he pulled at the beam, kicking loose bricks from around it's base until it came free. "This should work..." He muttered to himself, finally winding up with a plank of wood a bit longer than he was tall.

Feeling content with his acquisition he turned back from the ruined building towards the city's center and reaching up with his plank managed to swat the end of a rickety ladder attached to an out of use fire escape which he climbed swiftly, hauling the plank up awkwardly as he went. "Do try to keep up." He called down, having set into motion without consulting his ally... not that he figured there would be much use in that. He didn't trust the guy, an odds were he would wind up saying something insulting or irritating that would anger him if they really got to talking. Best to keep things quiet and keep them civil... At least until the situation was a bit less dangerous and he could think through his words and hopefully not wind up in a fistfight or completely shunned by yet another person.

His plan was simple and his intent clear; use the plank to walk across the gaps between buildings. Leaping them would be necessary in some places probably, but the plank would save extra energy they may need for fighting later. Besides; it could be used as a first line of defense; to swat or throw at oncoming Grimm. If all went well they would make it to the city's center in a few dozen minutes, find their relics, and then they could just hole up somewhere Grimm-free until the teleport back occurred.

Of course plans were not the end all-be all. Even as he reached the roof he could hear something on the wind in the direction they were heading. Something that would become clearer as voices as they got nearer. Something he found himself moving very quickly towards without really thinking about it.

Fir was donning her sweater again. The Juneau girl landed, or appeared, in a particularly decrepit section of the ruined town. She was flanked by two enormous towers, one toppled, and the other positioned almost as if it were about to fall. The area was damp and cold, and she sneezed as she landed.

Find, a partner, find the church, find a relic. The instructions were straightforward and easy enough. The Juneau girl didn’t have any particular strong feelings about her assignment, in fact, seeing her two friends being picked for the same assessment was comforting. She had some doubt as to the headmaster’s motives; the Bar Bomber was amongst their numbers, and in the morning, she realized that the group of students participating alongside her was also involved in the incident on the airship the other day. The examination struck her as more of a punishment, not a test. The way the mission was described sounded like the Beacon administration was lazy and had pushed one of its tasks upon the freshmen.

Popping a piece of hard candy in her mouth, Fir stepped into the remains of what appeared to be a road, pitted and in a state of upheaval. She supposed it would be the best idea to find her partner sooner than later. She didn’t mind if the person was friend or stranger, as long as it wasn’t the bar bomber. She shuddered – She might as well jump off a cliff and kill herself before partnering with a person with such disregard for safety and common sense.

Fir’s thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a piece of metal being kicked aside. She spun around, half-expecting for the silver-haired idiot to show up with another dust bomb, but instead were a pair of ursa. There was also movement in the corner of her eye, and Fir realized that something was also attempting to flank her.

A long gray pole suddenly appeared in front of Fir, which she grabbed and spun twice along its center of gravity before falling into a relaxed defensive stance.

“Does a sneeze piss you guys off that much?”

Her question was answered by the lunge of one of the ursa, which Fir expertly sidestepped. The Juneau girl quickly retaliated, spinning her polearm, landing a heavy blow from the business end of the stick onto its head. Taking a half step, and a half spin, she pressed a button and then briefly tapped the other ursa with Lancekravt, finger on the transformed trigger.

“Bang.”

The twisted monster stumbled back, hit point blank by a round from the compact gun. It took two steps backwards before collapsing onto the ground. It wasn't dead yet, but definitely out of the game. She turned around quickly, eyeing the other ursa, and keeping a portion of her attention to the approaching movement behind her. Taking a jumping step backwards onto a rusted payphone, she confirmed, with a small frown, seven targets: the remaining ursa, and six Beowolf. Fir pulled back the slide on Lancekravt, ejecting a shell casing. She let the casing fall a foot before she batted the piece of metal with her weapon towards the pack of grimm.

“All this for a single sneeze? Do you grimm have nothing better to do?”

There was no telling where the sound of gunfire had come from originally given the city environment. A few steady cracks faded out, and Oren was left with only the sound of agitated Grimm. While unable to pick out an exact location for the source, he had managed to get a general direction to head in. Granted it was away from the center of the city and thus his main objective, but priorities. It didn’t matter how confident he was in his abilities, a Hunter-in-training as a partner would be a definite boon. About to make his way over towards the sound’s source, Oren nearly stumbled as a sharp boom roared out from just a few streets over.

“Well… that’s bad…” His idle comment wasn’t without justification either. If the nearby Grimm had gotten agitated over the sounds of a distant rifle firing, the sound of what seemed to be a high-caliber firearm nearby had certainly attracted their attention. He could hear howls and roars coming from the buildings around him, the creatures calling for more of their kind. Just walking up to the rooftop’s edge, he could see dark shapes marked with white bone flitting through the remains of buildings.

With a reluctant sigh, Oren committed himself to the only course of action he could take. There was a potential partner, classmate, and fellow Hunter-in-training nearby. His or her weapon sounded powerful, but would without a doubt draw every Grimm within the vicinity to them. And while he didn’t doubt his fellows’ abilities, even he would be hard-pressed to survive against the numbers he saw moving about around and below him. So naturally, what other choice did he have to come to their assistance? “Let’s get to work then…” he murmured quietly, unsheathing the sword from his waist as he stepped to the building’s edge.

The street didn’t exactly cave in from his fall, but a small cloud of dust was kicked up as he landed in the middle of it. Weapon fully drawn, he raised his head and saw that he had the notice of every single Grimm in the immediate vicinity. Dozens, if not hundreds, of red eyes glared at him, shining with ferocity, hunger, and hate.

“Well then. Let’s get started?”

As if his question had been a gunshot ringing out, he and the Grimm kicked off into a flurry of action. Grimm of all kinds burst from the shadows of buildings, nearby alleyways, really anywhere and everywhere. Thankfully, they were almost all minor variants rather than major Grimm species, but even then sheer weight in numbers forced Oren into a fighting retreat from the get-go. At least three distinct packs of Beowolves, and two packs of Velraptors made up the majority of the creatures pursuing him. A number of Ursas lumbered after him, but they were of a minor concern at most. What was a concern however was the Felhound that Oren had lost track of after the entire hoard had burst into action. While nowhere as dangerous as something like a Deathstalker, the species was still a step above the common Beowolves and Ursa.

About the size of an Ursa Felhounds were, however, a great deal more dangerous. Moving with speeds that comparable to Beowolves, the solitary hunter’s defining characteristic would be their monstrous jaw. Extending all the way down to their torso, Felhounds could literally devour humans in a few bites if given the opportunity. And Oren had seen one tear a comrade’s arm clean off, ignoring his armor like tissue paper. That aside, the creature was also incredibly strong, capable of throwing people back dozens of feet with a body slam, or stunning its prey by slamming them to the ground with a powerful pounce. All in all, a deadly creature that Oren would have been wary facing alone in normal circumstances. As it stood now? He could only keep his eyes out for it as best as he could. A small blessing was that Felhounds generally didn’t seem to involve themselves with the target of other Grimm, preferring to hunt their own prey. If he was lucky, he wouldn’t have to deal with the Grimm until he had joined up the other individual and wiped out the lesser Grimm.
There wasn’t a moment for Oren to pause and catch a breath as he gave all he had just to keep in front of the massive horde. To stop meant to be surrounded, and with the numbers as they were that would surely mean his death. So he ran without shame. The Velraptors were the target of his ire at the moment though. While their packs weren’t as large as the Beowolves that trailed behind, their agility meant they were constantly harrying him. With only a few seconds pause in between, Oren was forced to spin around and lash out with Analdfflam constantly. Sometimes the blade would bite deep, and other times the Grimm would leap just out of reach. Unable to press the creatures though, he could only be satisfied of the occasional kill, accept the many misses, and push to keep ahead of the horde.

What he hoped to do was buy whoever the other student was enough time to finish whatever they were dealing with at the moment. Weaving his way through the streets and alleys that forced the Grimm to slow their pursuit, Oren led the horde on a merry chase through the abandoned city before finally circling around and back towards the source of the sound. He’d managed to whittle away almost an entire pack of Velraptors on the way, leaving five corpses on the ground behind him.
“Tch.”

Unscrewing the Dust canister from Anadlflamm’s hilt as he kicked off a wall to vault over a fence, he funneled some Aura into the nearly empty thing. Crushing it in his fist so that the container weakened, he hurled it against the ground near the fence. There was no roaring inferno, disappointingly enough, but the burst of flame was enough for his purposes. Normally it wouldn’t have stopped any but the weakest of Grimm, but with the fence providing an additional barrier it gave the creatures a moment’s pause. And that was all Oren looked for as he threw himself forward. If his ears had led him true, then the shooter, assuming they hadn’t moved, should have been nearby once he exited the alley. Hopefully they would notice him, since Oren wouldn’t have the luxury of leisurely looking around with the horde on his tail and a Felhound to be on the lookout for.
