Press was quite surprised to hear how short the speech was. He was used to incredibly long and boring speeches that hardly anyone paid attention to and forgot a minute later. Oh well, at least it was to the point, Press thought as he left to find his luggage and secure a spot to sleep. There was still light out, but that didn't mean he couldn't be prepared.
Lost, on the verge of an anxiety attack, and without her luggage, Eurwen stumbled through the empty halls of the academy in search of her friends. Sobbing softly, and hugging herself for comfort, the faunus called out, her voice echoing down the corridor, "Hello! Ashart, Fir!.. Anyone?" Having gone into a panic after realizing she had lost her friend, Eurwen had scrambled down the hallways and made too many turns to retrace her steps, only succeeded in becoming more lost in the maze-like academy.
Unsure of where she was, the rabbit came across another intersection of hallways. Floppy ears now stood at attention listening carefully for any sign of other students, but with little to no noise coming any of the hallways, they drooped sadly back down along her head. Wiping at her eyes as her vision became clouded with tears, she called out again, "Hello, is anyone there!"
Press examined a map of Beacon on a board, yet still managed to somehow get lost. I swear, I am bringing a GPS with me next time, he thought as he turned a corner, sure that it was yet another wrong turn. He never did like large places, and got lost most of the time even with maps. "Ok, let's retrace my steps," Press muttered to himself and he turned around, going back to where he thought he came from. Naturally it wasn't, and Press ended up getting more confused and lost than when he began. "Son of a..." Press muttered, putting his hand to his chin and wondering, not for the first time, why he was cursed with his lack of sense of direction.
As he continued on, he came upon a sobbing girl. She appeared to be a Faunus, if her rabbit ears, which he could barely see in her hair, were anything to judge by. Chances were that she was lost like him, in which case he didn't blame her for crying, considering how confusing Beacon was. He cleared his throat and awkwardly asked, "Um, excuse me," not entirely sure how to talk to girls in general, let alone in situations like these. "are you, um, alright?"
Eurwen was pretty sure she was going to die out here. The hallways seemed never ending, always twisting and turning, and before long she found herself going in a complete circle. "I'm never getting out of here.." She sobbed. Leaning against the wall and finally accepting defeat, brown eyes stared dully at the wooden floor beneath her feet, "If anything, I guess I could sleep here tonight." With any luck, someone might even stumble upon her.
At the sudden voice, the Faunus froze in her spot. Eyes growing wide, her head shot up searching desperately for the source of the voice. Catching sight of a boy standing down the hall from her, Eurwen's frown dissolved into a wide smile as tears of happiness began to pour down her cheeks. Without a second thought, she rushed him. Tackling the stranger, and seizing him with a hug, the rabbit cried into his chest in relief, "I can't believe somebody found me! I thought I was gonna die out here!"
Gripping the collar of his shirt now, she leaned in close leaving inches between them as she begged for an answer, "Please tell me you know how to get out of this place?"
The moment he saw that smile on her face Press knew something bad was about to happen, which was confirmed by her sudden glomp, knocking him down onto the ground. Yup, she's lost, Press confirmed as he awkwardly looked at her as she cried on him. When she asked him if he knew the way out, he looked away and slowly said, "Ummm... I was, uh, going to ask... you... for that, and... yeah..." his voice trailing off. "Um, also, could I, like... have some space?" Press asked, his hands on her shoulders and gently trying to push her away.
Realizing she was sitting on top of him as he began to push her away, Eurwen's cheeks burned bright red in embarrassment before she quickly hopped off of him. "Right, sorry, I got a little carried away." She said while rubbing the back of her head sheepishly. After what felt like hours of wandering, it was nice to finally see another person, even if they were just as lost as she was.
Standing above him and holding out her hand to help him up, the rabbit smiled softly, cheeks still tinted pink, "My name's Eurwen, what's yours?"
Press' cheeks were also red from the event, and he gently took her hand as she helped him up. "That's a rather interesting name," Press said, trying to sound friendly. "Then again, my name is Press, so I'm not really one to talk."
Pulling him up, the Faunus took a step back, a smile still present on her face, "So, Press," Glancing at the intersection of hallways before them, she crossed her arms indecisively, "Which way should we go?"
"Hmm," Press said as he looked at each hallway, finding absolutely no difference between any of them. He then pointed in a random direction and said, "That way." He turned to Eurwen and asked, "Unless you disagree?"
Hands clasped behind her back innocently, she shook her head with little hesitation, "No disagreement here! Lead the way, friend.~"
"It's settled, then!" Press said, and together they headed off into parts unknown to them.
As they walked, Press used the opportunity to strike up a conversation. "So, what are your weapons? I use a simple wrench and buckler, and my own two arms if necessary," he said with a smile.
Staring up at the other in curiosity, her eyes flickered down to his arms before returning to meet his gaze. "Well," Grazing a hand over the grip of her gun strapped to her thigh, Eurwen pulled out her first weapon, "This is my primary weapon, Arcadius." Making sure the safety was on, she held out the gun to Press, showing off the revolver and the hazardous looking blades sitting atop and below the barrel, "I made him my first year at Firelight and he's been my pride and joy since."
Twirling it in her hand with a cocky grin, she placed it back in its holster before tugging on the leather strap around her chest, "And this is Euythmia." Not caring to pull the blade out of its sheath, Eurwen continued on, "I got her from my father. She's just a sword, but she's kind of like a family heirloom."
Press nodded. "The weapons that we carry are important, whether we inherit them or create them with our own two hands," he said. "I can't even begin to tell you how many times I made a gadget, only for it to fail the next day." He removed his wrench from his belt and slid his hand across it. "There are only simple modifications to this regular pipe wrench, as you can see," pointing out the spiked knuckle guard and the spike on the top. "Never gave it a name, though."
He placed his wrench back onto his belt and took his buckled off the other side of his belt. "My shield is also rather ordinary, and doesn't have anything special, not like most weapons others use," Press said as he examined his buckled before placing it back where it belonged. He was about to say something, but as they turned a corner, he noticed a board to the side. Press gave it a quick examination and saw that it was a map. He hated maps, since he usually couldn't follow one, but from where they were, it actually wasn't too hard.
"Oh hey, this part will be easy," Press commented, finger on the red dot that showed where they were. "All we have to do is go straight ahead, then take the first Ieft to reach where we need to go. That's practically idiot-proof."
Listening to Press speak passionately about his weapons, Eurwen never broke eye-contact. It was nice meeting someone out of her group that wasn't blowing up bars, or destroying benches. Not to mention he could carry a conversation. "My parents always told me that when we name our weapons, it creates a bond." Tugging on the sword strap again, she gave a shrug, "Then again, this old girl was named long before my time."
Turning the corner with him, Eurwen came to a halt as Press noticed a map along the wall. Bouncing in her spot with a grin on her face, the Faunus cheered as he pointed out their location, "Yay! Now we can finally get out of here! I seriously thought we were going to have to sleep in these hallways for a minute there."
"Well then, no need to stay here any longer than we have to," Press said cheerfully. "Let's go!" Press said as he pointed in the direction they were headed.
With a skip in her step, and a smile on her face, she followed promptly behind him. Still curious about this potential friend, and with time still to themselves the Faunus piped up once again, "So where are you from?"
"Transferred here from Haven academy," Press replied. "Beacon seems so much different from home, so it's one reason why I got lost." He chuckled, then continued on, "That, and the fact that I have a really poor sense of direction."
"You can say that again!" She laughed, "Firelight is totally different than Beacon, I just didn't expect it to be this big." Continuing down the hallway and making the left turn Press had mentioned earlier, small noises from further down caught the rabbits attention causing floppy ears to rise at attention, "Oh! I think I hear people!"
Not waiting up for Press, Eurwen hurried down the hallway. Making a sharp right turn and coming to a halt, her smile stretched into a grin as she now stood in the auditorium, "[n]Press! We made it![/b]"
Tucked into the corner with a few other bags, Eurwen rushed over to the luggage and lifted her duffle-bag into her arms, crushing it in a hug, "Oh my clothes, my stuff--I thought I had lost you.~"
"Hey, wait up!" Press called out to Eurwen as she ran past him, but it seemed like he was brushed off, so he had no other option but to follow her. As he reached the auditorium, he sighed in pleasure and replied to Eurwen's exclamation, "Yup, we made it alright."
As Eurwen located her luggage, he stood by her and asked, "You take care now. I'm going to find my luggage and find a good place to sleep." He turned and began to walk away, waving behind him as he did. "See ya."
There had never been a time that the Faunus had felt more ready. After her first day jitters, she was back to her old self, eager for some action, and brimming with confidence. Unlike some of the other students that were covered in head to toe with armor, Eurwen was still wearing her clothes from yesterday. Seeing as this was her battle uniform, she didn’t see the need to put anything new on. Besides, her clothes were sure to get especially dirty today. Listening carefully as Professor Pewter stepped up and began to inform them their test, Eurwen stretched her legs, bouncing back and forth in a low squat.
"
The objective is to get to the church located in the center of the city. Inside there will be six relics that are placed at the alter. Each pair takes one relic. There are two of each of the following: a cross, a small gargoyle, and a wooden spoon. No doubt you will face monsters in your path that are set to protect them. They are some kind of source of dark energy we want you to bring back so we can destroy it. You are by all means authorized to use deadly force. If you don't well, you know what happens. After all six relics are retrieved, it will activate a spell that will transport you back to this cliff. Be warned however. If there is any presence of the Grimm withing 20 meters of you, the spell will deactivate and you will be trapped there. We will not be coming to get you.”
Pulling her arms in front of her chest and stretching her shoulder, a wide grin sat along her face. It didn’t matter to her if some mistook it for cockiness, Eurwen had been anticipating this day for a long time, and nothing was going to stop her from enjoying it. Even if they were being thrown into dangerous waters. This was what she had been training for, after all. Casting a glance at the other students around her, white runes began to coil around their shapes, teleporting them separately into the unknown region.
Brown eyes flicked over her friends, catching sight of smile along the Chimp Faunus' face, “
Good luck, and take a cross.” With Asharts last words in mind, the same runes swept around her, blinding her in a brilliant light as she was teleported off the cliffs.
Falling into a low crouch once her feet touched the ground, Eurwen found herself in a dark room, which she assumed was probably in an abandoned office building. Glancing back and forth around the room, her eyes flickered gold, a trait most Faunus had due to night vision. Dust, dirt, and what looked like old blood caked the windows, blocking out any light from entering the room. Desks were thrown over, broken pieces seemed to be mauled and covered in scratches, while old broken machinery and paper covered in soot and dust laid along the floor.
If there was anything in the room it would have attacked by her, but the Faunus knew better then to make any sudden movements in such a dangerous area. Considering how blinding the runes had been when they had teleported her, she was surprised nothing from the outside had become curious. Crouching through the room and getting a better look at her surroundings, a steady hand sat along the grip of Arcadius. This was her evaluation after all, and she didn’t want to look unprepared in front of the headmistress, or her partner.
‘
Looks like there’s nothing in here.’
Deciding to check the room beside her, she took a small breath and pressed against the wall. Oblivious to any danger within the next room, untamed blonde locks slipped through first before her entire head creeped past the drywall in curiosity. Unprepared for what met her on the other end, at least a dozen Beowolves were curled up amongst each other, grunting in there sleep and completely unaware of their now terrified intruder.
Slapping a hand on her mouth before she could lose her breath, and lose her head between the wall, Eurwen threw herself back into the room landing hard on the ground. “
Oh crap..” At first there was nothing but silence from the other room, but as she stood and began to take slow steps back, growls and grunts became progressively louder. Twisting around and breaking out into a sprint, the rotting wall behind her exploded in plume of drywall, and debris as a pack of Beowolves came charging out.
Gasping for air and activating her semblance once again, she ghosted through the wall. Phasing through desks and cubicle dividers, nothing stood in her way or broke her footing. The beowolves were persistent however, busting through the second wall with menacing snarls, they kept right at the Rabbits heels, sending desks and office supplies flying. Counting the seconds in her head as she ghosted through wall after wall, Eurwen found herself in the corner office, surrounded by nothing but windows. “
Shit—“ There was a chance outside the window was nothing but a drop but with no where else to go, she pulled out Arcadius and began to fire at the glass.
Cutting through the silence of the dead city, three gun shots rang out from the building, as glass fell from the seventh story window and Eurwen came diving out along with it. Soaring above the street below, her body descended down two stories right for the roof of another building. Bracing herself for impact and waving her arms out, her knees took the blow of the fall as she tumbled into a somersault. Not missing a beat, Eurwen rolled to the ball of her feet, skidding to a halt as she was pulled with the momentum.
The Beowolves came soaring after her, jumping out of the window and down to the roof. Standing up quickly, and drawing Arcadius from its thigh strap, Eurwen took aim. Firing off two shots, the first bullet sunk deep into a Beowovles skull, killing it instantly, while the second shot sent its limp shape flying back and off the building. Two others met the same fate before they could land on the roof of the building, however Eurwen had little time to take out any of the others.
Surrounded by at least ten Beowolves, a snarl ripped out from the pack as a single beast decided to take her on, causing adrenaline to flood through her veins. "
Here we go.~"
Gripping the hilt of Euythmia with her right hand and keeping her eyes locked with the charging Beowolf, her left foot slid out as she took a strong stance. Claws, and teeth drawn, Eurwen drew the blade as the Grimm towered above her in a pounce. Twisting her body clockwise with the rotation of her foot, steel met flesh and fur, cutting easily through the creature as it fell into two separate bloody clumps.
Earning a roar from the group and two more charging at her, Eurwen quickly took to the offensive. Rushing at her from the front, she evaded a swipe with casual step back and without missing a beat, her left hand snatched the beasts wrist. Wrapping her arm around its bicep, and locked her right leg around its neck as she threw herself up, a sickening snap came from its shoulder as she threw her weight forward, tossing the injured beast into another. Landing in a kneeling position, with one knee on the ground, she flicked her wrist, twirling Euthymia into a reverse grip as two more rushed forward.
Slapping her palm and sword against the roof, her left leg swung back, evading a pounce as the heel of her boot kicked into the Beowolves back. Swiping her sword forward as it shrieked across the cement floor, the blade sliced through the seconds neck, severing its head as it landed with in a bloody lump. Grinning as the fight progressed, Eurwen hopped back, corned at the edge of the building. As much fun as she was having, she knew she wasting time playing around on the roof. By now the others were probably already grouping up, which meant that her chances of partnering up with Ashart, or Fir were growing slim.
Eyeing another rooftop behind her, she placed a foot along the edge and waved at the pack, "
Listen boys, it's be fun, but I thinks it time for me to leave this party.~" With a snarl from the Grimm, Eurwen dropped the next roof and broke out into a run with the Beowolves quickly following in pursuit. Jumping from building to building, the Faunus tried her best to lose the pack, but even as she made it out to the street, they were still behind her. With the way things looked, she was going to need to confront them.
Sheathing Euythmia and drawing Arcadius, she came skidding to a halt with a black ambience surrounding her. Aura activated and using all her weight, she twisted around catching the leading Beowolf off guard as her fists slammed into its jaw. Crushing its face and sending it flying back into another. Despite being effective, she had little time to evade or counter a second attack, as another Beowolf rushed from the side and slung at her.
Taking a quick breath before the impact, Eurwens used the hit to throw her body to the side, sending her phasing through the wall and leaving the pack behind. Tumbling through the other side, and breaking down the drywall as she lost her breath, the Rabbit rolled onto the street, holding her ribs with a painful grunt. "
Geez'.. that's gonna leave a mark."
