Life in general has taken a turn for the worse with just about everyone these days. Mass oppression tends to do that, unfortunately. Although no Kingdom was able to defend against Umbra's growing might, the embers of hope still burn within the hearts of the rebellion, a scattered force that hide away, under the Empire's very nose. All around the continent, small groups do what they can to oppose the Empire - from picking off soldiers to simply smuggling items underground to prevent them from falling into the Empire's grasp. Thoug the lack of reliable communications means that they're all essentially separate armies that just so happen to have a common enemy.

The cornerstone of the Empire's might seems to come from four specific generals, each wielding unfathomable power, and the biggest obstacle to wresting control of the continent from Umbra. Many have attempted to assassinate them, only to become examples of How Not To Anger The Evil Guys. Defeating them will prove difficult, but will surely be a huge boon to the rebel's success. Oh, but don't forget the thousands of soldiers under their command. Mooks may be mooks, but they're still enemies, after all.
Righty-ho, time to establish some stuff, I guess.

Magic:
Most people are born with at least some 'mana' in their system. All this really determines is how good you are at magic. Those with no mana whatsoever can't use it, but that's hardly a downside; magic is a truly tricky thing to master. Even if you get the basics down, it could take a very long time before you can move on to more advanced spells. Like... making bigger fires.

Additionally, while magic technically spans across many different variables, it's generally labelled under 'battle' magic and 'life' magic. Battle magic is pretty much your typical Black Mage deal: Fire, Thunder, Lotsafire, Toomuchthunder, Burn Everything To Ashes Tee Hee Hee and everything in-between. Likewise, Life magic involves healing, protection and recovery.

As for magic that doesn't specifically fit in either category... those who find their magic is tied strongly to the environment are known as Geomancers. Those who find that they can influence weak-minded monsters are known as Beast Mancers... there are even those who can summon beasts to fight in their stead.

The Races

Of course, humans aren't the only sentient race in the world. Sure, they're by far the most common race, but the rest are hardly minorities..

  • Beastkin: Although they seem to originate from Alacris and its surrounding territory, Beastkin are almost as widespread as humans themselves. And almost look as human as... well, humans. The main difference, physically, is that they also bear some semblance to beasts and animals. bearing strange ears, tails or other attributes. They also tend to live about twenty years shorter, on average.

  • Elves: Reclusive but not unheard of, these forest-dwellers may seem distant and cold, but they just generally prefer to keep to themselves. Notable perks for these guys is never dying of old age, and having a strong affinity for Life Magic.

  • Dwarves: These stout figures prefer the terrain of the mountains, and tend to be friendly chaps. Despite the stereotypes, dwarves aren't naturally master backsmiths; it's simply the most fun career prospect for them. Possessing great physical strength and endurance, there are few that can match a dwarf in sheer power.


  • The World

    Before Umbra went and conquered everything, there were five kingdoms that made up the land. despite the occasional dispute, things were relatively peaceful between them all. Then everything changed when the Umbra Nation attacked.

    Umbra: The reason things are the way they are now. Suddenly attacking the other kingdoms with immense military power, they were able to conquer the continent without too much hassle eight years ago. King Lumina, now the Emperor, seems a very different man from the good old days. Situated at the north, bordering the Northwestern frozen wasteland of Gelum.
    Gelum: A land with few humans and many powerful creatures stalking the lands. Wen it comes to natural defenses and difficult terrain, this place certainly ranks up there. Despite the harsh conditions, what few people live there seem more than capable. Just a shame they were soundly beaten despite the home advantage.
    Quies: Spanning the center of the land, this particular kingdom was the smallest, but get bonus points for making a living in a desert land. They had just starting pioneering sand-powered technology when Umbra went and started trouble. Quite sad, really. Their former ruler was a Beastkin, Queen Seraphine.
    Solum: Solum, ruled primarily by the dwarves, is noted for being almost entirely mountainous or underground. Its borders stretching from the south to the east of the continent, this was the last Kingdom to fall to Umbra. The king and queen reportedly fell in battle, taking a sizable chunk of the Empire's army with them,
    Alacris: Situated in the Southwest, Alacris is noted for its general distaste of warfare, and even tried to negotiate peace with Umbra amidst all the invading. So tey're not the most warrior-ey of the Kingdoms, unfortunately. At least the rebels based there know better by now.

    History:
    Aya for a long time lived with herself living peacefully. From a young age she was taught the art of healing, both magical and naturally. She was luckily talented for both of the arts and would grow to be a fantastic healer. However along her childhood, she was plagued her with strange vision, but they were only from her childhood and disappeared when she became older. During her teenage years she practiced more on healing and studying medicine from different kind of healers, learning various techniques to treat different types of illnesses. Over the years and into her adult years, she was now a known as a Power Healer being able to heal many of the sick during a plague helping to stop the plague from spreading further. But now after that, she decides to hide away from sight, only helping those whom come to her for her assistance and she will do the best in her powers to help them

    Its been a long time since Aya has participated in anything to do with the world for a while. She usual remained far away from conflicted in this world, but until recently she too has been threatened that if she didn't choose a side then she will be destroyed in the middle of things. This angered Aya a bit as she always preferred others to come seeking her help but now it was her turn to choose a side where she would be providing her support. And this is where she is now...

    Note: She can be discarded if wished but if she is allowed she will be the primary healer for the resistance in general. Not just to us, and will rarely be in our party unless it very important.

    Name: Kairi Rusko

    Race: Elf

    Appearance:
    Kairi has long red hair and sports a green cloak over full leather armor. Her bow is custom made from Alderburn wood. Kairi has a necklace with her fathers 'lucky arrow head' attached, she has not removed this for 100 years.

    Abilities: Kairi relies on her bow and arrow in combat situations, she has a small dagger attached to her leg but does not have any real skill with melee combat. Kairi is able to use the little mana she has to set her arrows ablaze, though she cannot do this all too often. Kairi is highly dexterous, she is able to quickly navigate her environment and find vantage points. She specializes in forest combat, using the trees and grass to her advantage.

    History: Before it all went bad, Kairi was a resident of a small village populated entirely by elves. She had a husband and a child, she hunted the local wildlife to feed her family and the rest of the food would be sold for money. One day soldiers of the empire arrived at the village and demanded 50% of the goods the village produces be regularly shipped to Umbra. The village could not afford to comply and things got violent, Kairi managed to leave the village before she was discovered though her family were not so lucky.
    Now she turns her hunting skills into combat skills and vows revenge on those responsible for the deaths of her family and friends.

    Appearance: "Boom."

    Abilities: Sophia is an incredibly accomplished witch, far beyond what her apparent age would suggest. She has a high level of mana and is capable of many destructive spells, including fireballs, streams of flame, lightning blasts, and concentrated dark magic beams. She is also able of utilizing defensive spells, deploying magical barriers to protect herself from harm. Which is crucial, as she is about as physically able as she looks. Sophia has little physical strength and very little ability to withstand any harm done to her, and she is not particularly capable of dodging attacks very swiftly at all.

    History: Black Witch Sophia, Dark Legend of the Forest! A beautiful and dark figure, known to wield powerful magic and a seductive tongue, who-...wait wait... that's Black Witch Sophia? Isn't she supposed to be... taller? And... better-endowed? ... Um... well... Black Witch Sophia! Dark Legend of the Forest! ... Apparently a little girl who likes to glare and is easily bored... there's not particularly much known about the Black Witch, aside from her bearing the same name as a legendary figure said to have single-handedly defeated hundreds of men and women. However, that can't be true, given she appears to be a little girl. A sarcastic, easily-bored, insulting little girl who seems to give everything the same look and carries a stuffed, plush slime with her wherever she goes. Living in a house near a swamp, deep in a forest, Sophia rarely ventures out. However, recently, a very important item was stolen from her, something she desires to get back no matter what. She'd also like to get some candy. Candy is nice.

    Name: Spectre

    Appearance:

    Spectre is very secretive constantly wearing a cloak with a hood to mask his appearance. However if you were to remove that hood you would be greet with the sight of a red haired young man with a child like face and soft puppy dog brown eyes. Spectre stand roughly 5 foot 9 inches and is very slim in build. However a identifying mark is the fact that on on his left breast pocket he carries lollipops often seen giving them to children.

    Abilities:

    Lock picking: Among the strongest of his talents is opening doors that should not be opened.

    Silent movement: Spectre is quieter than a ghost even when running thanks to practice and padded shoes.

    Pick pocketing: Spectre loves fishing, fishing being stealing the wallets from soldiers.

    Sword play: Spectre has been using a sword and his combat skills make it apparent that he knows how to use it.

    Archery: Often caught picking off guards or pinning nobles to walls long enough to relieve them of there valuables.

    Smooth talker: Spectre is a very good liar and often lies and cheats to get his way of course he can use flattery and compliments just as well.

    History:
    The man known as Spectre was once a young boy living in secluded trading town in Gelum, due to the towns large amounts of merchants and lack of guards this town would quickly become the base for the thieves guild. Ever after the Empire took control the thieves guild continued stealing except now they took from the empire and gave back to the town that had helped them become rich. During this time they adopted a young boy, who was left without parents due to monster attacks, teaching him there trade. Renac taught him to use a bow, while Jones trained him in sword play, Mina and Julie trained him in locking picking and silent movement, and Kellam taught him how to talk to people and pick pockets. Cordelia the leader of these thieves would make the young boy lollipops, each one in the shape of a pink teddy bears head. Of course eventually like his family before the member of thieves guild were captured while trying to rally local resistance and hung in a public execution in the capital of Gelum, all except the young boy who had escaped off into the moutains.

    Five years after those hangings guards fear the Spectre, believing him to be ghost of the Gelum thieves guild member come back to reap revenge. His wanted poster displays a man in a hood with lollipops with teddy bear faces in his left breast pocket as a identifying mark and offers a significant reward. Spectre has spent the last five years killing, stealing, or lying his way through life taking the fight to the empire where he can. Many have seen a man in a cloak often stopping to give out lollipops to children in towns, each one bears pink a teddy bear, his calling card. However he has recently many claimed the thief is looking to join a group of rebels and offered the location of the thieves guilds base and riches.

    Name: Hevanseer Evinlost (Hee-van-see-er Ee-vin-los-tuh)

    Age: 28

    Race: Human

    Appearance: Hevan has a constant stoop owing to the warped nature of his spine (Kyphosis), forcing him the bend almost double to prevent discomfort. He walks with the aid of a exquisitely carved cane shaped at the head into an outstretched Crow's claw and at the bottom it tapers into three different points making a tripod style walking stick. He stoops at 4'8 and has incredibly pale skin. His left arm is withered and he often holds it close to his chest although it is still fully articulated and posses all other functions as a normal arm would. He wears a simple set of common clothing with a single gold signet ring and his cane marking the only signs of wealth. However his eyes are bloodshot and he is balding heavily aging before his time. Yet despite this he still manages to pull off a decent smile at all times, showing his white teeth behind the pale purple lips. He is clean shaven and tries to make himself as presentable as possible given what he has to work with. In contrast to this he carries a very large and imposing backpack. Rigid in shape and giving no clues as to the contents within.

    Abilities:

    Natural Healer: Hevan was born with a natural affinity for healing magic, which he continued to train in and expand when he was sent off to a temple to further the study in order to help the injured. However he slowly became tired of the constant restriction on the magic he had in plenty, eager to learn the methods that would allow him to repair his back and to help those truly in need, not those who donated money to the temple's cause in return for healing aid. When he reached the age of sixteen he slipped away from the priests and priestesses and vanished into the crowd. Thus he knows a reasonable depth into his magic, enough to repair damage done to skin, muscles and simple bone but he does not possess the secrets a full healer would have in their repertoire.


    History: I shall omit this section and a small number of abilities from the CS as I would prefer to keep them a secret for now and to not reveal anything simply in the character creation section that could miss out on some of the IC interactions.

    If required I can PM the details to the GM to confirm the suitability of the character's abilities and background.

    I would like to reserve an elf!

    Name: Elisimier Valenwood

    Age: 333 [yup]

    Race: half-Elven, half-Human

    Appearance:


    Abilities: Like most forest elves, Elismier is skilled with a bow and with his shortswords/longknives, to the point where a human would probably never match them. Again, like most elves, he has a good bit of magic, and would probably be called a Druid. Druid is something of a sort of Geomancer, except that instead of being water, fire, earth, or air, it's more of a nature-geared elements. Theoretically, he could use his magic, which is of the element Water, to control water and such. However, he has never practiced this. Instead, he uses his magic to work hand-in-hand with nature spirits, healing the forest around his home.

    Other than that, he's an excellent cook and does, in fact, eat meat. If other elves do not, then he doesn't know. Nature is sacred, but nature also provides. To not eat meat because the creatures are living is the same as not eating berries because the bushes are alive. The forest sustains him, and he heals the forest. In addition to this, he has very sharp eyesight and shares a very intimate connection with wildlife, being able to 'speak' to them, and to 'speak' to animals that he has often healed. He understands birds quite well, as well as deer, among other animals.

    Inhabited longevity from his elven parent, and the bluntness and raw strength from his human parent.

    History: Lives in a forest, an unnamed forest by Elismier's standards, and has lived there all his life. Whom his parents are, he does not know. Whom other people are, he does not know. Whom the kingdoms are, he does not know. All he knows is his forest. He doesn't care for the roads, for they bring down trees and harm the land, but he knows the people are not hospitable to those who stand in their way. Generally, people traveling through may see eyes watching them, or a phantom appearing for a moment, flashes moving from a tree to another.

    Other than that, he's known nothing. What he has now is either items that he's taken from bandits, hiding away in his forest, or traded with the occasional, kindly trader. The forest is, undoubtedly, one of the most safe forests to travel through. He makes his bows by using his magic on trees that are past their life, too damaged by fire, lightning or simple old age and too much weight. As it is, his little hut, a sort of large lean-to next to a very large tree, extending all the way around with a little stream running through it, has probably a dozen excellently-crafted bows, which weren't even crafted, with all sorts of runes of nature and animals. Over four dozen arrows sit in a basket woven from vine and sticks, each set of 6 arrows with a different kind of fletching, ranging from letting an arrow fly more accurately, to letting an arrow fly faster.

    Eventually, he heard through a little bird [literally], that people were fighting again, 5-two-leg-round-ear-giants-leaf (clothed human commoners) "offended" (Attacked) 2-leg-round-ear-giants-in-shinystone (Iron-armored human soldiers), and very quite concerned, he did nothing.

    A year later, this seemed to happen more and more often, and indeed, iron-clad soldiers began appearing on the roads more often. Disturbed, Elismier finally came to a decision, with a bit of a push from the nature-spirits to go and find new nature, and to make sure nature is safe. War, they say, is not good for nature.

  • Name: Alaustriel Dragonstabber

  • Age: 121

  • Race: (High) Elf

  • Appearance: The Dreaded and Terrible Dragonstabber in All His Glory!

  • Abilities: Alaustriel is an elf of many talents, gathered through his short (for an elf) but rather eventful life. As with all elves, he is swift and graceful, along with gaining a degree of swiftness and dexterity that is higher than average for even his race. He is a consummate musician who plays the flute rather enchantingly, has a quick wit and tongue which makes him a wonderful weaver of stories as well as convincing negotiator. Alaustriel then is an expert woodsman and tracker who can flit about woods with nary a sound while making use of all of nature's bounty that most people would not even think of even accessing, and is a master archer whose unerring arrows pack a lot more punch than his slight frame suggests- partially due to his access of low leveled life magics that strengthen the body's inherent characteristics and also healing abilities that lets him heal light wounds. Other than that, he's quite good at fending off people who gets too close through any versions of daggers/knives/short blades and an unorthodox kick based martial arts style that make use of his powerful legs. He also knows his way around cooking whether it be survival cooking made in the wilderness with a minimum of ingredients and tools at hand or proper fare made in the kitchen full of bountiful ingredients due to his picky tongue appetite being one of the few negative high elven traits he cannot rid himself of, as he loves good tasting food. As such, he knows quite a bit of information on just about anything edible and their effects having gone and tasted them all personally. As such he has poison resistance towards many plant based poisons due to ingesting trace amounts of the things to develop immunity to.

  • History: Born in a high elf society and as head of a minor noble house, Alaustriel chafed under the stifling and often times stuffy society that was so dismissive of everything not their own culture. Eventually having enough of being cooped up, the young elf literally leaped out a window during a particularly off-putting tutoring lesson and discarded his finery and clan name to live a free life that he always wanted. Somewhere along his travels, the elf apprenticed under a ranger and became a wood elf in all but species and then slayed a young and overconfident but still very violently dangerous dragon during one of his adventures by stabbing it to death with a broken longbow, which earned him the title "Dragonstabber". After that point, he now finds the oppression and dark times rather distasteful and is now doing his best to bloody the noses of those who are evil with his own chaotic brand of justice.

    I have a problem with that app.

    If dragons were so easy to kill that you could kill them with a shattered piece of wood, then a town would have no trouble fending one off with iron pitchforks and smithy hammers. And are there even dragons? If there are, the dragons must be pretty stupid and pretty weak in order to be killed by a single young elf by a piece of wood.

    In that case, my character could kill a dozen. I have sharpened elven steel sticks, and two of them.

    Race: Human

    Abilities: Seras is a legendary knight, said to possess superhuman fighting ability and strength to throw a fully armoured Dwarvern warrior over five meters. During her legendary duel with the Black Knight, she received several severe injuries that greatly impaired her physical abilities for a while. She has mostly recovered by now, but her right eye has been rendered completely useless, and her strength is roughly half of what it once was.

    She possessed tremendous strength and endurance, enough that she can effortlessly wield the massive sword, Lionheart, in battle. Her bloodlust and fighting instincts are many leagues sharper than most men's, making her a natural fighter who can overcome almost any foe in direct combat. Her sheer willpower is so strong that she is able to continue fighting even after sustaining injuries that would cripple a normal man.

    However, no matter how much she enjoys the heat of battle, she is still a knight at heart. She follows a basic code of honour, and will never make use of dishonourable methods to achieve her goals.

    Name: Rothves "Roth" Mosgaru

    Appearance:

    He has a wolf ears instead regular ears and a wolf tail. He keeps both hidden.

    Abilities: Roth is a great fighter since he trained since he was little to fight. He wields the sword Dragon's Bane and is skilled in its use. However it is his Beastkin skills that make Roth a force not to be messed with. He is quick on his feet due to his nature. Not as fast when using his sword but still quick enough to be effective. Roth also has the sense of smell and hearing of a wolf. However he is not the most social being in the world. He can be quiet and reversed at times.

    History: Rothves Mosgaru was born to a pair of Beastkin immigrants to Quies. Being strangers in a strange land, they tried their best to fit in or stay hidden. Roth however did not want this. He embraced his home and loved the desert kingdom. When he turned 18 he joined the army and was a natural swordsman. As one of the only of his kind in the army he was looked down on but never gave up. This perseverance paid off when he was 23 and was made part of the Royal Guard. He saw this as a massive honor and treated it as such. Only two months after he joined the Guard reports came to the palace that the Umbra armies were moving to conquer Quies. In the middle if the night Roth was awoken and taken before the Queen. She ordered that he , as the guard with most knowledge of the desert, would take the Dragon's Bane sword away where the Umbra agents could not get. So on the night he took the sword and fled his home, something that bothers him to this day. For eight long years he kept moving to stay out of being captured. He has heard rumors of a rebellion. He may just join them.
