Yep, you could do that but perhaps with some of the others Mech groups. I know at least three other Mechs are in the roleplay.

Again, my idea was to call in the airstrikes and the like. Indirect combat.

The Patton essentially serves as the team's command unit. The presence of an extra command mech at this point is kind of unnecessary.

With such a large machine, the Patton should likely be able to handle it's own intelligence gathering, especially with the help of the rest of its team

I like the Patton so much, it's a giant turtle, a very easy to turn over turtle, but the turtle has friends and the friends protect the turtle.

Alright fine, I won't be my idea. Thanks alot for everyone beating it down.

I just figured that mechs specializing in certain areas would be preferable to mechs that have almost everything.

I have two other ideas I'd like to say, and which will probably be beaten down by everyone and their brother:

A) slightly-larger-than-man anti-heavymech speeder. Think of the panther-like machine from Transformers, that has the chaingun on its back and was in the second movie, except large enough to have a pilot. The goal for that is to attack targets, similar to the Patton, by getting up real close and personal, jump onto the mech and perhaps deploy armor-piercing charges to screw up joints and other essential pieces on a mech.

B) Missile, anti-personnel mech. Assuming that the Patton doesn't have smaller, light artillery in addition to the giant stuff, this mech would be like the anti-infantry stuff. While the Patton will take out fortified installations and medium or heavy mechs, this idea would be that it's a missile type. Think of the MLRS, with smaller, longer range missiles in more quantity, and a few larger, more powerful missiles to be fired individually. Four or six legs, lightly armored, needs to move quickly. Fires off a salvo, and the resulting exhaust from the missiles will pinpoint his location, so he'll have to move.

Or it can be the Hover MLRS from Tiberium Sun, even though it wouldn't be a mech, it'd still be useful for anti-infantry or anti-lightarmor purposes.

How do these sound?

(Light Bipedal Mech Platform)-2 Alder
A 4.5 meter tall German mech geared towards speed and flexibility. Typically found operating as light armored reconnaissance. The Alder, as a mech designed to both gather intelligence and infiltrate enemy lines, is equipped with a system rendering it invisible to radar. In addition, the Alder is outfitted with the necessary comms equipment to transmit secure messages through either bad weather or radio interference, as well as an updated version of the LAV-25's Improved Thermal Sight System. To defend itself, the Alder is limited to two wrist-mounted 5.56mm machine guns and an up to scale, short range 20mm caliber assault rifle. However, if the Alder pilot is willing to reduce the ammunition for his wrist machine guns, the mech may be equipped with wire guided projectiles built into it's shoulder joints that may assist it in traverse rough terrain.

(Medium Bipedal Mech Platform)-7 Ranger
A very well rounded and versatile American mech standing at 5 meters tall. Though the Ranger is deployed in a wide variety of roles in the Task Force, it specializes in nothing. But what it lacks in a distinct advantage in it's base model it makes up for with it's wide array of weapons. It's primary weapon choices are either an automatic 40mm grenade launcher or a 25mm caliber mid range assault rifle, but the Ranger may also be equipped with a rocket launcher firing guided anti-tank (or anti-air) missiles, a 81mm mortar launcher or a .50 caliber heavy machine gun on it's shoulder. As a secondary weapon, the Ranger may either be equipped with two wrist-mounted 5.56mm machine guns, a chest-mounted 7.62mm machine gun or an automatic 12 gauge shotgun. In addition to it's armament, the Ranger may be equipped with a large jump pack that would enable it to achieve temporary flight in exchange for forgoing shoulder mounted weapons or like the Alder, wire guided projectiles at the cost of some ammunition.

(Heavy Bipedal Mech Platform)-9 Mattis
A heavily armored bipedal mech standing at 5.45 meters tall, the Mattis is another American made mech that may be equipped with any weapons available to the Ranger. However, the Mattis may be armed with two shoulder mounted weapons instead of just one, as opposed to the Ranger. The Mattis may also arm itself with a more heavier shoulder mounted weapon (though it will not be able to arm itself with two shoulder mounted weapons if it does so) that include a 105mm tank cannon, 120mm mortar launcher or four .50 caliber heavy machine guns mounted in pairs on each shoulder. All of these weapons, plus it's thicker armor, will means that the Mattis will move far slower than the Ranger and is unable to effectively use a jump pack or wire guided projectiles though.

(Light Quadrupedal Mech Platform)-3 Spider
A highly mobile, four-legged British mech standing at just over 3.5 meters tall, the Spider has been made to operate in hostile terrain and environments. The Spider's legs are specifically designed to allow it to walk on walls and other hard surfaces, allowing it to quickly bypass enemy forces and to move with ease. And, like the Alder, the Spider is outfitted with electronic hardware that assists the mech in it's role as light reconnaissance. However, unlike the Alder, the Spider is armed with a single 7.62 mm chain gun and just two short range 84-mm unguided missiles. And while the Alder can hold it's own in a direct fight, the Spider's armor renders it very fragile in a fight, allowing it only to withstand limited small arms fire.

(Quadrupedal Weapon and Support Platform)-4 Tortue
A large mech standing at 7 meters tall designed by a joint team of NATO engineers, the Tortue's armor can withstand several direct hits from a tank and can be equipped with a vast array of weapons or advanced systems. Given how few Tortues have been created, most of these platform's features are customized to fit it's role in the Task Force and as a result, two Tortues seen together with the same loadout is a rare sight on the battlefield.

.... Or you could not take it so personally.. Apollo sees no need for an extra long range mech in the Hard Knockers, so don't try to force a square into a circular hole.

There's another unit for you to join. It's no big deal.

Would it be alright if the Patton stayed as is but just became a torture class mech?

If you could modify the Patton to conform to the Tortue's specs and maybe reduce it's firepower in exchange for that troop cargo bay, as well as use weapons in use today by a NATO member state's military, then sure.

Why would we be using such outdated guns? I mean, its 2058, right? There's bound to be a whole load of weapon advancements in that time span.

Budget cuts when everyone needed funding to make mechs?

I'm joking of course, but honestly in the next forty or so years, I don't see tank cannons and weapon calibers changing too much. But right now the whole "let's throw every superweapon we can think of on my mech" thing has me on edge, so just to be on the safe side, I'd like everyone to base whatever mech weapons they want to use for the Tortue on modern specs unless they can reasonably think of and explain the research, development and deployment of an advanced weapon that might pop up in the next four decades.

He's right. The best we'd probably have at that point with consecutive wars might be a fully functioning laser, but that isn't like a laser sword. A laser 'cannon' would have to focus for at least ten seconds on a single spot before it'd start doing damage, and even then it'd just fry stuff, not burn a hole through someone. Railguns would probably take the place of regular cannons, and plasma weapons would probably be so experimental that it'd be impossible to use in combat.

Missiles and targeting systems would be much better, though.

... Could we be pilots? For air support and the like? A gunship or something? I'd really like to be air support.

People can make pilots, sure. Keep in mind you'll be limited to what will basically pass off as my equivalent of the Halo Pelican (an all purpose space VTOL dropship).

WIP also this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6sAUHwTP4A

Name: Jacob Matthews Knight

Age: 26

Gender: Male

Appearance: Jacob stands around 6 foot 7 inches tall and is very well built. With short neatly cut red hair and piercing brown eyes. He is either wearing his custom black ops armor or in standard fatigues. Depicted above is him outside of his Mech in combat armor.

Background: Growing up in United States a orphan he did not have many people to turn to so he instead turn to the military, in school his favorite topic was World War 2 having a love of General Patton and his idea of tank warfare. At age 17 he joined Marines. He attended school during his off duty hours and managed to become become a 2nd lieutenant by age 20 after graduating with a two year degree in engineering moving from front-line combatant to armored warfare core. From here he would be selected for training in special ops mechanized warfare specializing in heavy class Mechs. After a year of training and testing the first of a new breed of Mechs was created and the now 1st lieutenant Knight was selected to be it's pilot. After successful testing and trail runs Knight and the Mech went dark working in special operations and black ops during the past five years. However recently with more of this model of Mech being built he and the Mech were place in the NATO reserves.

Rank: Captain

Unit: 1st Breach Platoon aka "Hard knocks Platoon", this Platoon has three or four Mechs and a squad of six to ten infantry. The job of the breach platoon is to escort the main Torture class Mech (The Patton) towards the objective once they have reached the build the Mech then extends a enclosed high powered ramp through the target breaching it and delivering a sudden attack though barriers and buildings. Due to the immense size of the Patton it is rather slow due to having thick armor and heavy guns and light guns however it's Quadrupedal so it does take a lot to bring down. Many have referred to it as "A walking tank" however it is more along the lines of a APC. The other Mechs in the Platoon are normally light assault Mechs or medium class at minimum as the other Mechs are in charge of keeping faster attacker from destroying the Patton. After assaults are carried out the Mech can becomes a artillery battery using laser targeting to destroy enemy's from long range.

Hard Knocks Platoon pilots
Captain Knight (Platoon leader.)
1st Lieutenant Nicholson

Hard knocks infantry and personal
Captain Locklear (field commander for infantry.)
Warrant Officer DuBois (Assign to Patton for in field repairs and as a advisory to Captain Knight.)
Staff Sergeant Mcknight (Demolitions expert)
2nd Lieutenant Connors (Sniper and Scout)

Role: Breacher/ personal carrier/ command vehicle / artillery.

Gear: A TAR-21 with custom synced targeting to HUD in his Blacks Ops issue hard drop suit with magnetic holsters. A colt 45. pistol chrome with pearl grip and a automated personal assistant for troop management (Basically a AI to help him manage the battle and pilot.)

Mech: The Breacher named "Patton", is modern United States Quadrupedal Weapon Platform slash troop carrier trading in one of it's heavy weapons for a breaching system and extra armor to deploy troops. Patton has four on board front mounted 50. caliber machine guns on swivels for Secondary weapons. It's primary weapons are twin 120 millimeter Forward mounted cannons than can be rotated for front facing fire or once locked down used as artillery with a auto reloading system allowing shells to be fired every 3.5 seconds. The price of all this greatness? Even with four legs this Mech will barely do 40 miles an hour with all weapons offline.. Secondary Weapons online and running hot? 30. Secondary and primary weapons online 20. This titan of Mech is very weak at the rear as it has no weapon to protect it so that's why it needs other Mechs covering it. The Torture class of Mech normally has two pilots however due to the on board AI this model does not. Many of Knights former commanders have used it as a moving base, in fact the troop bay can also be staff room or triage for wounded soldiers. Because the Patton is so large it can be used for evacuation, however if it is not needed it can enter "Lock down" Meaning it's legs fold under and it becomes a stationary artillery platform.

Design of the Patton: The ideals of the great general live on through this death dealing delivery system. The chassis and cockpit have been painted world war 2 green, in white half worn off letters on the side of the hull it reads Patton, yet under that in crimson red it reads "Old blood and guts" in hand painted letters. At the front is allied star on the troop bay as worn and faded as the rest the of the decals. The legs of this war machine are as red as blood, Patton had told them to grease there tanks tread with the blood and guts of the enemy the paint symbolizing that motto.
